=== Lumpy is now known as Lump|AFK [02:54] can anyone help me debug an opengl issue? [02:55] running nvidia gtx 660 on 12.10x64 [02:55] http://pastebin.com/99hWr4WM [02:55] the main issue i'm getting is an error "Unsupported GPU: Missing extensions: GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object" [03:40] hi [08:24] So how would one go about altering the logon menu? [08:25] altering which way? [08:25] Idk maybe adding a profile picture or changing the background? [08:26] I am running xubuntu after about four months of arch so I am rusty [08:26] too much pacman [08:27] basically you can compile the latest version of lightdm-gtk-greeter and use that [08:27] it has those features [08:27] but you'll also need the latest version of our gtk-theme and icon-theme for it to really work [08:27] or you wait for the next release [08:27] whichever seems easier to you [08:27] satoru_: ^ [08:27] Well shoot. That puts me in a pickle [08:27] or you try to use a different greeter [08:28] LIke slim or lxdm? [08:28] (unity-greeter, pantheon-greeter -> as long as you don't complain here if they don't work as expected) [08:28] Meh. [08:28] Oh [08:28] Teehee [08:28] no, those are still lightdm [08:28] Oh really? [08:30] Cmnds to compile latest version? [08:30] Oh but wait i would need the latest theme huh [08:31] So it wont fully work [08:32] well it would work, but it would probably not look as good as it can [08:32] Pantheon Greeter looks nice [08:33] Are there bugs on xubuntu 12.10 [08:33] ? [08:34] yes. [08:35] Agh dependency issues already haha [08:35] Guess that is a no [08:35] That is a damn good login screen too. [08:36] Guess I will just stick with what I have [08:36] Although surely there is someway to change the background? [08:37] yeah, edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf [08:37] the background is set there [08:38] Ok cool. [08:53] Well I edited the config to my image and now it is just black [08:53] Not sure why really [08:53] I know for a fact the location is correct and I just edited the background [08:59] did you use the absolute path or a relative one? [08:59] (obviously the latter will not work) [09:01] absolute [09:01] you can pastebin your .conf file, otherwise it's hard to help [09:04] http://paste.ubuntu.com/5624717/ [09:04] There she is [09:05] That was after I thought maybe it wasn't working because it was in home [09:05] and the uppercase L is intentional in "Logon.png"? [09:05] So I moved it to the location where the logon logo was found [09:05] correct [09:05] That is how the file is named. [09:05] k [09:06] Should i do lowercase and see? [09:06] no, if that's the name of the file, that's ok [09:06] you can check /var/log/lightdm/x-0-greeter.log [09:06] or lightdm.log [09:06] maybe there's something helpful there [09:07] otherwise i can't help you, this is all you have to do [09:07] Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/Logon.png': Permission denied [09:07] Well that splains it [09:08] yup [09:08] Brb :P [09:10] Indeed it worked. :) [09:10] Thank you my fine sir. [09:10] np, yw [09:55] good morning [09:55] hello [09:56] maybe someone here can enlighten me. how do u run a xubuntu session from the command line? startxfce4 gives me a plain xfce session [09:56] ajon, why would you want/need to do that? [09:56] ajon: edit the .dmrc file [09:57] x2go only has presets for gnome, kde, unity and others [09:57] if you want something else you have to provide a command to start that something else [09:59] .dmrc says xubuntu, but running startxfce4 seems to ignore that [10:01] then I don't know [10:02] also /usr/share/xsessions xubuntu.desktop and xfce.desktop both execute "startfxce4" which seems weird [10:24] hi [10:25] what is xubuntu 13.04 kernel version? [10:30] abderraouf: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=linux-image&searchon=names&suite=raring§ion=all [10:33] koegs, thanks :D [13:04] i install xfce on arch but i want my xfce look like xfce for xubuntu .exist any tutorial for this? [13:06] sayres: http://shimmerproject.org/ [13:06] sayres: there you have a arch pkg for the theme [13:06] sayres: for example the greybird theme: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46022 [13:08] tnx buddy [13:12] what did ntwork manager use in xubuntu ? [13:12] i can't burn 12.04.2 image to CD due to oversize ? [13:12] has anyone got this problem b efore? [13:13] mmm_, which image are you using? [13:13] mmm_, and what size CD... [13:13] amd64 [13:14] desktop or alternate+ [13:14] ? [13:14] desktop [13:14] that should fit a standard 700MB disk with no problems. [13:14] are you using a smaller one perhaps? [13:14] it says 707mb on the website but when i download it shows 741 mb on pcmanfm [13:14] baizon: do you know what did network manager use in xubuntu ? [13:15] knome: and then brasero won't burn it [13:15] knome: i've tried several different CD-R [13:15] I've burned with them before [13:16] actually it seems you are right, was looking at a wrong page [13:16] sayres: what is your question? xubuntu does use the network manager... [13:16] mmm_, it should fit though... [13:17] knome: i've tried downloading it again and burn with irfranburner on win7 [13:17] same problem [13:17] ;/ [13:17] that's weird - i know we were in the limits, but i thought we made sure we didn't go over [13:18] mmm_, if you can use the alternate image (don't need to check if hardware works or need to use the live session), that will surely fit [13:18] knome: yeah i'm downloading that right now [13:18] what about usb or dvd-r? [13:19] koegs: when connect to internet that applet on top show you are connect to internet. [13:19] but i stlil wants a desktop cd since i tend to keep it and install on different machines [13:19] koegs: usb ? [13:19] mmm_, can you confirm where you downloaded the image/which link? [13:20] knome: http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs-Xubuntu/12.04/release/xubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso [13:20] mmm_: basically you can put the iso on a usb-stick and boot from there [13:20] koegs: really [13:21] how should i go about doing that [13:21] mmm_: if your computer is able to boot from usb, of course [13:21] koegs: yes it can, but how do you burn the image to usb ? [13:21] mmm_, okay, thanks. i'll look into it. [13:22] knome: thanks [13:22] mmm_: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows [13:25] koegs: thanks [13:39] anybody know whats name of the applet : http://www.pasteall.org/pic/47477 [13:40] nm-connection-editor [13:40] in the panel its part of the indiator plugins [13:40] Indicator Plugin [13:42] how can i install that? [13:44] if you are using xubuntu you already have it [13:44] if not, you are in the wrong channel [13:44] P: [13:44] tnx dude [13:44] dont worry === torstehu_ is now known as torstehu [14:19] my file manager is look like http://www.pasteall.org/pic/47480 but xubuntu is http://www.pasteall.org/pic/47481 .how can i change my file manager? [14:20] sayres: are you still on arch? [14:20] sayres: view -> location selector [14:21] TheSheep: tnx [14:22] koegs: yes. i like xubuntu guys [14:48] hello y'all. xubuntu live dc will not install. do i need debian? have an old fujitsu lifebook [14:50] !dosn't work [14:50] !doesn't work [14:50] Doesn't work is a strong statement. Does it sit on the couch all day? Does it want more money? Is it on IRC all the time? Please be specific! Examples of what doesn't work tend to help too. [15:53] hi [15:54] !hi [15:54] Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. Enjoy your stay! [16:04] hi [16:05] !hi [16:06] hes gone :) [16:06] hi anyway [16:08] hi [16:08] P: [16:51] i have a problem installing xubuntu can someone help_ when i start installing i choose language etc. but when im at the part to choose update^ installing thirdparty things when i press continue it freezes i cant do anything else than exit i also see the loading cursor but it does not cahnge [16:51] Does anyone know if there exists a bugreport for mouse buttons? I didn't find one but this doesn't mean something 'cause I'm not a native speaker and perhaps using the wrong keywords. My problem is the left mousebutton. It refuses to work on the first used mouse/touchpad used by Xubuntu. xfce4-setting are set correctly. xinput doesn't show something unusual. [16:52] Xubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 both 64bit [16:52] xubuntu511, have you verified the hash on the ISO / install disk? [16:53] march what kind of bug is happening? [16:53] Only the left mousebutton isn't working. Wheel and rmb are doing fine [16:54] This problem happens here on my Thinkpads touchpad (12.10/64bit) and on my Desktop-PC running 12.04/64bit. Here I'm using a trackball [16:54] im using usb to boot the installation [16:55] right xubuntu511 the ISO you downloaded could be currupt. have you verified the md5 hash? [16:56] march, http://askubuntu.com/questions/184222/left-mouse-button-not-working-in-xubuntu-session [16:57] Thanks SunStar I'll give the ppa a chance [16:57] no but im downloading another iso so ill start everything over but what program should be used to usb booting? [16:59] i dont know of a good one for linux aside from unetbootin (not the most reliable, but seeing as how you got that far means it did its job) [17:00] usb-creator-gtk and unetbootin [17:03] march, only bug i found for mouse button not working at all happens only when working with java applications [17:05] Strange. Just thought if it could be a problem with my Trackballs. Attaching them later doesn't solve the problem but mice always work as I wished. [17:07] I'll create a bug report on launchpad. [17:07] i did see some "how to"s on getting trackball mice to work with ubuntu in a google search [17:09] 046d:c404 Logitech, Inc. TrackMan Wheel didn't help too [17:09] But thanks for your help SunStar :) [17:10] in the meantime you might try a google search for ubuntu [17:11] Yes - I already did that but haven't found a solution so far. [17:12] Threads like http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1571714 appeared but the problem wasn't solved [17:14] But there seems to be a prolem with this kind of hardware [18:14] Ubuntu 12.04.2 is locking up frequently when writing to the hard drives. I am using a HP SmartArray 6400 [18:14] anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the issue? [18:14] opps wrong window sorry [18:43] hi, where can i download xubuntu the fastest way - trying torrent from xubuntu.com but i needs 5 hours [18:44] thats the fastest way. perhapse your internet is experiencing throughput difficulties [18:45] you can look to see what connections are really slow and ban them on your client [18:45] that could help [18:51] mnass: you could also use direct-htttp [18:51] link? [18:52] xubuntu.org [18:53] is there a way to view all crash reports at once rather than having them pop up one at a time? [19:03] yep ) [19:04] awesome! [19:05] xubuntu948:: now if I can just get someone to help me figure out how... [20:13] Hello, I am trying to connect to wlan under terminal but I get an error. When I try iwconfig essid NETWORKNAME [20:13] The network is unsecured. [20:14] is it wlan0 [20:15] Yes, the wireless card. When I use iwlist wlan0 scan I get all available wireless networks. So I guess it is wlan0 [20:16] Guest24013, you are crossposting, and already getting help in #ubuntu [20:16] bazhang, I am sorry. But I didn't get any help in #ubuntu and now one is responding [20:16] Ok, over there. Thanks [20:17] stick to the one channel please [20:35] hey guys quick question my system monitor graph is being incorporated into my indicator plugin [20:35] and moving my mail and volume icon to the left [20:36] and it wont let me move it, how would i go about it [20:36] i went to the panel and no matter where i move it the indicator moves the graph too [20:48] sorry this is all for the top panel [20:49] psil0cybin: there are 2 competing systems for system icons in the panel. "notification" and "indicator". [20:50] so what would i do here is my top bar in an image [20:50] http://oi46.tinypic.com/2nm8hf.jpg [20:50] psil0cybin: "notification" is more like winxp systray and "indicator" is newer [20:50] i want to move the audio and email button to the right side [20:50] but if i remove indicator [20:50] it removes my icons [20:50] psil0cybin: volume and network are normally in the indicator and can not be moved separetely. but [20:51] so am i stuck with the volume button email button than graph then wifi etc [20:51] psil0cybin: if you add the "mixer plugin" to the panel, the volum icon in the indicator will be hidden, and you can place the "mixer plugin" wherever you want. [20:52] i dont have a mixer plugin [20:52] i would have to download it ? [20:53] and than what would i do with the email icon? [20:53] sorry to throw this on u :( i did alot of googling [20:53] and tried a bunch of things [20:54] psil0cybin: see if package xfce4-mixer is installed? (in software center or synaptic or with apt-get) [20:54] but if i get the mixer than i cannot move the email icon as well [20:54] Hello, I am installing XUBUNTU [20:54] so id be stuck with an email icon, graph, and than wifi etc [20:55] which file system should I use to format old OS? FAT 32, NTFS, ..? [20:55] this is my thread [20:55] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2126927 [20:55] CHIex: Installing Xubuntu, you'll want to use ext4. [20:55] HA? [20:56] never heard of this one yet.. [20:56] psil0cybin: I don't know if the email icon can be replaced in a similar way. you can try email panel applets and see what happens. [20:56] darn [20:56] thats my best bet eh? [20:56] i just like it with the pidgin and everything === Cheri703_ is now known as Cheri703 [20:59] psil0cybin: note, "I don't know" isn't a "No". I just haven't tried it. so try an see. [21:00] alright thanks for your help [21:00] the second i quit the system monitor [21:00] the icons go to the right, but when i launch it, it goes back in the middle [21:00] maybe i can config some file? [21:01] psil0cybin: by the way, what do you mean "download it"? if you mean "install it via a package manager" it is okay. do you mean "search the web and click download" it is not okay. [21:01] no no deff not the web aha [21:01] ment as an addon [21:01] like not a default package [21:01] sorry [21:02] psil0cybin: say "install" a "package" and I'll be less nervous. promise? [21:03] deal :) [21:03] :) [21:03] thanks alot btw for getting back to be right away [21:03] really appreciate it [21:03] i will deff play around and post my solution if i find one :) [21:03] i just wish they would have that graph as a different plugin [21:04] because the other monitor works, i can place it on either side of icons its just this one darn thing [21:06] psil0cybin: sometimes programs have a settings if they shall show an icon i the "notification" area. see if there is such a setting for the "indicator" area. (about the network manager and/or system monitor) [21:12] how about if i just delete the indicator and get xfce4-netload-plugin [21:12] it should have a panel icon [21:12] but i cannot find it [21:14] holy [21:14] randomly the move worked and i was able to shift it to the right [21:14] good enough for me [21:15] lemme try a restart and c if it stays :) [21:17] how can i lock all icons on desktop? [21:18] hmsck: you mean in terms of their position? [21:20] yes in their position..because sometimes they change it somehow... [21:25] don't think you can, sry [21:53] hey guys sorry just another quick question, xchat says that transparancy isnt supported on my window enviroment [21:53] is this normal? as i have transparency on the top panel [21:53] transparency worked within unity with xchat [21:56] psil0cybin: transparency in xchat works for me (with and without compositing, xfce 4.6) [21:56] works for me but im using ubuntu studio [21:57] hmm odd [21:57] keeps telling me i cannot set transparency but only in xchat [21:59] hmm [22:02] Can anyone tell me why on some of my laptops, Thunar takes forever to load and then loads up two window instances, and on my other laptops everything is fine. All are on 12.10 :S [22:03] Both the 64bit versions [22:09] differences in hard drives [23:55] Hello, I have a perixx gaming mouse which is basically 2 HID keyboards and an HID raw input, unfortunately, none of these inputs are recognized by going to the device file in /Dev/inputs and using sudo cat. I have already edited HID.d in an attempt to let the mouse be recognized but to no avail.
