[00:00] nothing yet, [00:00] so sorry if I'm a little slow but I'm a pretty quick learner [00:00] It's not a big deal joining the team, really. It's just that for someone who hasn't done that before might have a bit of a learning curve. Many people show interest, but very few stick around, unfortunately [00:01] I had some issues with Ubuntu Studio a couple years ago and stopped using it but now I'm ready to work to understand it for the better good [00:01] I can assure you, that if you do want to contribute, you'll get all the assistance you need to learn what you need to here [00:01] i'm pretty motivated as I'm a music writer and use a lot of open source software to create music and just want it to be better [00:01] I like that. It's a good start [00:01] I'm up for the test, I hope to surprise you with sticking around! [00:01] That's pretty much how I started out here [00:02] so the USB issue you mentioned, I'm pretty confident I can get studio to boot on a USB so can try that if that's of use [00:02] what made you stick around? [00:02] usb issue? [00:03] on the other IRC you mentioned for me to get it booting from a USB stick as a start [00:04] I know I should get the distro up and running, I've got a couple laptops to toy around with so that will be the immediate goal [00:04] Oh, I'm probably forgetting. Maybe it was a while ago? [00:04] i just need some guidance as to once it's going how can I be of use to the project [00:05] You're mostly into audio, right? [00:05] yup [00:05] also transcription software [00:05] midi stuff and whatever else [00:05] One thing that would help is for someone to take control of the audio workflow bit, and do an inventory of all the audio apps available, and see if we should add something [00:06] ok [00:06] I can give it a whirl [00:06] But, there's no hurry with that right now, though [00:06] Next month, we're releasing Raring. Right now, it's frozen, so no more changes [00:06] ok should i instal 12.10 as my reference copy? [00:06] Actually, right now, we're just doing testing on it [00:07] It would actually be helpful if you could install 13.04. [00:07] ok where can I find that? [00:07] One thing we are testing right now is doing an upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04 [00:07] ok [00:07] I'll give that a go [00:08] give me a bit to get my USB stick going and I'll try to liveboot 12.10 [00:08] So, what you need is an install of 12.10 on your computer. Then, you do a upgrade to 13.04. There are two ways. One is using the 13.04 DVD, another is upgrading from 12.10 using a script [00:08] We'll need to test both [00:09] We'd like to see if there are any problems involved. [00:09] Might be a good idea to mess a bit with user settings before upgrading. [00:09] Haven't really thought much further on exactly what yet [00:11] timothymillar: Once we get closer to the release of 13.04, we'll start planning for the next release. If you're on board from there on, you'll be able to catch up with everything we do over the next 6 months [00:11] It might be smart to select a few areas of interest, and not cause yourself too much of a workflow [00:11] workload* [00:13] If you'd like an overview, you're free to look around our wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio. It's a bit messy - I'm working pretty hard on making it a good resource for contributors [00:16] I'm just happy if you take interest in one or two things, and find a few hours now and then to work on them. There's no pressure at all, just so you know [00:16] Some of us may be a bit more possessed, but that may not be totally healthy [00:17] ok I guess step one is to get a working copy of 12.10 booting on a computer. so I'll get working on that and see where I can fit in [00:17] thanks for the guidance and I'll keep at it and find what's needed [00:17] that's my starting place and I'll pick away a few things to see where I can be of use [00:18] I'll be back in a bit [00:19] timothymillar: If you're here tomorrow, I can explain a bit further. But, in short: you'll at least need a launchpad account, and if you're going to do any kind of testing or development, you'll need to have a machine for that. [00:19] So, if you want to prepare, I'd say those are the two things you could worry about for now [00:20] gotcha === jta is now known as jta_afk === jta_afk is now known as JTa === saidinesh is now known as saidinesh5 === jta is now known as JuxTApose [15:53] zequence, just saw this in pulseaudio-discuss: "The target release date for 4.0 is 2013-04-18" [15:53] I guess testing pulse 4.0 will be a good start to R+1. [16:23] Stephane Letz interview, proof read by himself [16:23] fresh ! [20:04] low latency for PA is 30-5ms for jack <10ms. [20:10] Slide show has yet to be released, lots of updates on it though. === jta is now known as JuxTApose === jta is now known as JuxTApose
