Lump|AFKheyas01:26
Lump|AFKlen got your email but have not had a hot minute to look it over01:27
Len-nbLump|AFK, no problem01:34
Lump|AFKi did have enough time to install the beta on my Eee 100001:37
Lump|AFKgot the error reporting on for yas01:37
Len-nbI've been waiting for the new slideshow to be released01:40
Len-nbBe nice if Catfish made it too.01:41
Lump|AFKand i am also getting even a tad braver on the Eee01:41
Len-nbI finally upgraded my server to precise.01:41
Lump|AFKgoing to get with my nick soon and see if I can get Chrome OS installed on it as well01:42
Len-nbhave fun... 01:43
Len-nbI need to make some bread dough for tomorrow.01:44
Lump|AFKsounds yummy01:46
Len-nbShould be02:14
micahgI'll try to get to catfish soon03:58
Lump|AFKwhat is catfish?04:03
Lump|AFKand do any of you, by chance, have any clues on how to get chrome OS to run from the hd on an Eee 100004:04
Lump|AFKnvm on catfish04:06
len-dtThank you micahg 04:45
len-dtLump|AFK, tbh I have not played with chrome OS on any machine.04:46
Len-nbzequence, just reading about the opus streaming format (silk/celt). It fits in an OGG file format but is quite different. The ogg vorbis codec has the same sample rate in and  out. opus does not. Internally opus may change the sample rate from frame to frame, so sample rate at the output end is not set.06:19
Len-nbThe recommendation for codec output rate is: "If the hardware supports 48 kHz playback, decode at 48 kHz, else if the hardware's highest available sample rate is a supported rate, decode at this sample rate,  else if the hardware's highest available sample rate is less than 48 kHz, decode at the next higher supported rate and resample, else decode at 48 kHz and resample. 06:23
Len-nbThe supported rates are: 8, 12, 16, 24, or 48 kHz.06:25
Len-nbHmm, no 44.1 or 3206:26
Lump|AFKthat is an interesting way to deal with latency len12:30
Lump|AFKsimilar to how vbr dealt with file size12:31
Lump|AFKbut if it is internally changing the sample rate, more or less, it is only using the cycles it needs12:31
zequenceLen-nb: Can't say I know much about how sample rate is managed in codecs and such13:10
Len-nbzequence, our slideshow should be in todays iso15:47
Lump|AFKheyas17:53
Lump|AFKzequence: in the "old days" the logic was to reduce the file size17:53
Lump|AFKVBR with lame encoding did so by only using the bit rate it needed to in order to keep the file size smaller17:54
Lump|AFKfrom what i get from len's comments is that this voip program is, more or less, using the same logic to conserve on CPU cycles17:54
len-dtLump|AFK, Actually this is different. there is a difference between bitrate and sample rate. In an MP3 or vorbis stream, the bitrate can change from frame to frame, but the decodes output is sample for sample of the input of the chain. opus is not. It expects 48K in (can use other sample rates too) but then encodes in a varying sample rate depending on what the highest frequency of the incoming signal is at any one time.18:51
len-dtAnd what the expected average or top bitrate is. The expected bitrate can change on the fly as well, to take into account changing transport bandwidth.18:53
len-dtWhat is amazing is the quality of sound/bitrate. Especially at lower bitrates, opus is way better than vorbis or MP3.18:54
len-dtWhere a vorbis/mp3 stream can have as much as 3 to 5 sec of latency from raw signal in to raw out, opus is less than 50ms and can be as low as 2.5ms at high bitrates.18:57
Lump|AFKnice18:59
len-dtI think opus is the next thing for voip as well as remote broadcast contribution.19:00
Lump|AFKand yeah, i get the difference just missed it earlier19:00
Lump|AFKi am hereish at best19:00
Lump|AFKpersonal life this week has been living hell19:00
len-dtWaiting for my bread to proof.19:00
Lump|AFKmy xgf attacked me on monday and i spent half the week in jail19:00
Lump|AFKtrying to move her and her son's stuff out and she is being a real difficult person about it19:01
len-dtThats the way it goes. I came close with an Xwife years ago.19:01
Lump|AFKwell, it is what it is and she needs to deal with her issues19:01
Lump|AFKif she continues to stay with me all i am is an enabler19:02
len-dtI had custody of my son for 6 hours, then I became a child molester19:02
Lump|AFKright now i am just trying to get her possesions over to where she is at19:02
Lump|AFKi called at the agreed time, texted as well and now... abolutely no response19:03
len-dtThe judge didn't believe it, but social services took my son "just in case"19:03
Lump|AFKi know the feeling19:03
Lump|AFKthere were no charges in this case because I convinced the investigators that she needs some help19:03
Lump|AFKbut, they did take both of us to lock up19:04
len-dtGlad you are out.19:04
Lump|AFKbut i am not going to load up a car and drive across town to leave the stuff on a pourch19:04
Lump|AFKbecause if anything did happen to it, you know who would be blamed19:05
len-dtI don't know what the laws are there, but here someone moved out has 30 days to claim their stuff, then it can be tossed.19:05
Lump|AFKsame here19:05
Lump|AFKbut i am not wanting to do that19:05
Lump|AFKlong story short and just being honest19:05
Lump|AFKi still care about her and the kid very much19:06
len-dtIt is not about wanting to do sometimes.19:06
Lump|AFKshe has had a tough luck life and need some serious help19:06
Lump|AFKi am going to make every effort to get her stuff to her19:06
len-dtYa, but not help from you.19:06
Lump|AFKi don't need to toss it, i have storage space so i need not toss it19:07
len-dtYou are too close19:07
Lump|AFKbut her and the kid do need clothing and such19:07
Lump|AFKi know that regarding the help len19:07
len-dtSo store it. She will ask if you leave it long enough19:07
Lump|AFKthat is why i made the tough call to put her out19:08
Lump|AFKit is already packed19:08
Lump|AFKthe issue is that she was supposed to take a call at a set time today19:08
Lump|AFKand i get a full voice mail and no reply to texts19:08
Lump|AFKi am not going to load a car to go to an empty house19:08
Lump|AFKso, more or less, what you said19:08
len-dtLet it go. If you can store it do so.19:09
len-dtTakes time for people to cool down, some more than others.19:10
len-dtIts old, but time does heal.19:10
Lump|AFKi had another gf who got into crack and i had to put her and her three kids out19:17
Lump|AFKthat was over a decade ago19:17
Lump|AFKshe actually reconnected with me and thanked me for saving her life recently19:18
Lump|AFKhopefully, this works out the same19:19
len-dtor better.19:19
Lump|AFKon another note19:56
Lump|AFKnoticed an oddity with the beta19:56
Lump|AFKwhen my blue tooth mouse connects, it shows two battery icons in the task bar19:57
len-dtThankyou for reminding me, the daily is out an hour ago now.19:57
len-dtThat is odd, I wonder if that is an xfce thing or an icon theme thing.19:58
Lump|AFKdo i need to manually do the daily or will it work via update?19:58
Lump|AFKi don't know but one indicator says adapter is online and battery is fully charged19:58
len-dtIt will upgrade, but what I want to test is the slideshow during install19:58
Lump|AFKand the other says adaptor is online and the battery is charging19:59
len-dtThat is weird19:59
Lump|AFKwell, if i am going to change chrome19:59
Lump|AFKi need to do a reinstall anyhow19:59
Lump|AFKi can not get the chrome os to boot off a partition19:59
Lump|AFKso i might just use the internal 8 GB 20:00
Lump|AFKbut i set this netbook up rather odd20:00
Lump|AFKalso what min size do you recommend for both root and home20:00
Lump|AFKi set my partitions up so that the home dir is the sd card20:00
Lump|AFKthus, if i travel, i pull it out for safety sake20:01
Lump|AFKand if, i did double check, both on 12.04 and this 13.04 build, it does the same battery thing if i connect the blue tooth mouse20:02
len-dtIt seems to me root (/usr /var etc.) needs close to 8, 6.5 or something. I haven't looked at it for a bit. Used to be 4.620:02
Lump|AFKwell for ubuntu basic, they recomend min 820:03
len-dtThe used diskspace after install depends on disksize too. It is smaller on small disks.20:03
Lump|AFKi have an 8 and a 32 internal20:03
len-dtHmm, says I have 12% to download20:03
Lump|AFKand a 32 sd removable20:04
len-dtI use a 40G USB drive.20:04
Lump|AFKwhere i made my error was, at first, i was going to install 12.04 and 13.04 side by side20:04
Lump|AFKso i just split the drives 50/5020:04
len-dtOops.20:05
Lump|AFKthen i changed my mind and went only with 13.04 and was going to try chrome20:05
Lump|AFKso now when i try to boot chrome, the bios just goes wtf???20:05
Lump|AFKi don't think chrome is going t work unless, i have it on it's own drive20:05
len-dtBoot 13.04 and redo grub.20:06
Lump|AFKi don't think grub is seeing it20:06
Lump|AFKhow would i redo grub20:06
Lump|AFKwhat is the cli?20:06
len-dtThere are two steps...20:06
Lump|AFK13.04 is booted i will give it a try20:06
len-dtI don't remember off the top of my head20:06
Lump|AFKno worries20:07
Lump|AFKi will look it up right quick20:07
Lump|AFKi have done it before but don't recall either20:07
Lump|AFKlol20:07
Lump|AFKif i google "redoing grub" it pulls up all kinds of burger joint articles20:08
len-dt:)20:08
Lump|AFKwell looks like this will be a project for a bit later20:12
Lump|AFKmy company just arrived20:12
len-dtOk, bye now.20:12

ubuntu-studiozequence, I just realized that we do not have a publishing slide in the install slideshow.21:18
zequenceubuntu-studio: also the py script that explains what happens when you do the irc thing has wrong info21:27
ubuntu-studiozequence, are we going to worry about these things for 13.04? or just fix for +1?21:56
ubuntu-studioanyway, I am going to reboot into the new install...21:56
=== kubotu_ is now known as kubotu
zequenceHome clean. Let's see how many days it stays that way this time22:29
len-1304Jack and PA are still behaving well together22:30
zequenceEvery time I put every piece of item where it's supposed to be, something happens, and I end up having half a bands instruments being freighted home to my place22:30
len-1304:)22:30
zequenceYea, jack and PA both seem to work fine. Though, something that has happened before, and still happens, is that after starting and stopping jack a few times, and using PA for a bunch of things, including playing flash, the module stops initializing22:32
zequenceOr, the module stops creating the sink and source, is what I mean22:32
len-1304I'll have to play, I haven't seen that22:33
zequencelen-1304: Probably some dbus thing, something becomes mixed up at some point22:34
len-1304Mish's Wall Paper is there.22:35
len-1304File Manager and Terminal Emulator still come up as unselected.22:36
zequenceSomething weird happened to a development release install, after updating. The login screen was all grabled, after the wallpapers got updated. 22:36
len-1304Looked ok to me22:37
zequenceAfter updating from not using it for a months or so22:37
zequenceThere was no wallpaper. Just garbled squares22:37
zequenceI usually don't put any energy on those things, as that kind of stuff usually happens during development22:38
len-1304I haven't seen that, I was using 13.04 up till two days ago. Updating as I went.22:38
zequenceDon't think I changed the wallpaper myself22:38
len-1304I needed this disk to back up my server so I could update that22:38
zequenceThe default changed automatically. So, there was never any user settings on that22:39
len-1304I ended up not using it because it was faster to backup over network at 40Mb (as fast as my 100M net seems to go)22:40
len-1304That is strange22:40
len-1304I had manually set my wall paper, but not lightdm22:40
len-1304lightdm just did on it's own I think... unless I reinstalled after the change.22:41
zequencelightdm should show whatever the user has22:42
len-1304That may be it then.22:42
len-1304I had set my user to the new one manually22:42
holsteinzequence: question.. do you have a link to all the changes that are coming?23:06
len-1304Mixxx still crashes on me, we don't ship, but it gets suggested often23:08
zequenceholstein: Fairly small amount of changes, from our side. https://ubuntustudio.org/2013/03/ubuntu-studio-13-04-beta-1-release-notes/23:08
zequenceholstein: Some new apps, some polish on the menu, etc23:08
holsteinlen-1304: graphics driver related?23:08
len-1304I think so. 23:09
len-1304It seems to me it worked on my netbook, except it is too big for the screen and so not much use.23:10
zequenceI'm just about to set up bedroom for recording guitar. Have the amp ready. Just need to isolate a bit. It's funny that a cheap Peavy can sound so good, while the Mesa Boogie I have is a lot harder to record23:10
len-1304My desktop has a bigger screen23:10
holsteinzequence: did squshy PM you?23:17
zequenceholstein: No. No one can, if they aren't registered23:18
holsteinzequence: handy!23:18
holsteini'l have to set that up23:18
zequenceholstein: It's a freenode thing23:18
holsteinzequence: he pm'd me23:19
holsteinzequence: is there an announce like that for the changes in main ubuntu?23:19
zequenceI put that on after some asshole was PMing me, who I didn't know23:19
holsteini'l have to get that23:20
zequencelet me see if I can find it23:21
zequencehmm, it's not in my irssi configs23:23
holsteinzequence: not a biggie.. i can look it up later23:26
zequenceholstein: http://freenode.net/using_the_network.shtml23:27
zequence+R (block unidentified)23:28
zequenceThat's the one23:28
