[01:23] hello guys, i have a problem with ubuntu 13.04 alpha. I download and make a boot USB flash with 13.04 [01:23] and [01:24] when show the menu to choose i click "live cd" to try but show a error [01:24] for missing file, i dont remember a name [01:24] at this file [01:24] i try to "install on hard disk" [01:24] but again - miss file.. [01:25] my laptop is with amd64 and i donwload this: raring-desktop-amd64 [01:27] k1lled, That is really confusing, at least for me can you be a bit clearer [01:28] wilee-nilee my english is bad... sry about that [01:29] mmmm, well i try to start live CD 13.04 ubuntu [01:29] k1lled, NO problem I'm a bit slow as well. ;) [01:29] well, what is not clear? [01:39] I am having some serious issues with the config files for Unity.... I use the LTS and Raring on the same machine using the same /home folder.... LTS works fine (though it boots much slower now) and Raring has not Unity panels, or gtk-window decorations.... anyone have any ideas of how to work around it? [01:41] I have removed the config files in ~/.config and gotten it working... however it is only temporary. I have a second user for testing purposes that works just fine. [01:41] currently I am using LXDE as my DE since Unity is messed up [01:51] I have no panels at all. No window decorations. Is there someway to fix this? [01:51] I have to open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and use gnome-session-quit to logout. [02:02] Guest88134: I wouldn't share home. Using an LTS and a development release with the same /home seems contradictory in nature. One is stable, the other unstable. Anyway, try this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/17610/how-do-i-reset-my-unity-configuration [02:04] bcbc2: sort of contradictory.... but if April is right around the corner this will need a solution. LTS to get work done normally and developmental to test things. LTS shouldn't break the developmental release.... it seems [02:05] Guest88134: I wouldn't share a home between different releases either. I wouldn't assume that the config would match between releases. [02:07] I keep getting warning for many packages that they can't be verified/authenticated. What's happening with that? [02:08] Atlantic777: I did too... I fixed it by changing from united states server to Main [02:08] bcbc2: Thanks for your help [02:08] Guest88134: np [02:09] Atlantic777: is it on a ppa or the normal package repos? [02:12] bcbc2: normal packages [02:13] And I wonder, what happens when 13.04 is released, I mean, in the early dev phase of 13.10. [02:16] Atlantic777: try this http://askubuntu.com/q/99936/14916 [02:17] bcbc2: it's not that error, I solved that. [02:18] https://paste.lugons.org/show/GdVh0H8ge5vHvegbWqT7/ [02:21] Atlantic777: have you gone through this? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure [02:24] bcbc2: no I have not. === johnjohn101 is now known as Guest78956 [02:27] ok, that helped [02:27] thanks bcbc2 === johnjohn1011 is now known as johnjohn101 [02:28] Atlantic777: np :) [02:28] I mean, switching to the main servers helped. [02:28] that seems odd [02:29] btw, I was using us servers [02:29] I think that's what Guest88134 suggested [02:29] yeah, and it's the first thing in the troubleshooting guide [02:30] btw, I would like to bum this bug, but not sure how https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wicd/+bug/1132529 [02:30] Launchpad bug 1132529 in wicd (Ubuntu) "Can't start wicd daemon" [Undecided,Confirmed] [02:30] i tested on 2 machines, the same problem, the same fix [02:30] and with different images, one from 24. feb and another 20. march [02:31] I'm hoping for some ideas on how I might diagnose what I think is a problem with Desktop Wall in Compiz. With edge flipping functions enabled, the edge will flip only once after a login, and then never again. It can be a pointer flip or a DnD or move, but after that one flip, it's as if the option isn't turned on [02:32] (the flipping options are still checked in CCSM - there is no visible sign that the setting has actually reverted. The edges just no longer work) [02:45] Anyone got mir to work? I can get the egl_mirtriangle to run, but computer boots to a black screen if I add 'type=mir' to lightdm.conf [08:46] hello [08:52] can anyone help me get 13.04 to show up in the boot menu along side 12.04.2 & 12.10? [10:13] http://picbg.net/img.php?file=c03dafd1d51f1a22.png my ubuntu 13.04 [10:20] This is mine: https://bel.fi/alankila/newfontrendering.png [10:21] :) [10:21] My experimentation with OS X -like but not as blurry font rendering technique is drawing to a close. I believe this is nearly production ready in sense that there are only minor tweaks to the algorithms required anymore. [10:22] my is win8 and ubuntu 13.04 boot :) [10:23] I have taken this alpha correction technique pretty much as far as it can go [10:29] http://picbg.net/img.php?file=32e6d98476f15f22.png [11:24] Howdy all [13:46] hello been trying to install 13.04 on my ssd disk and i cant get it to boot.... asus uefi bios can anyone pls help me out here i have 2 drivers sda this is user only as storage and sdb this is my ssd disk that i want to have ubuntu on [13:48] !efi [13:48] UEFI is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware, it is meant as a replacement for the BIOS. For information on how to set up and install Ubuntu and its derivatives on UEFI machines please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI [13:52] iv tryed most of the stuff nothing works and if i run the boot-repair it just hangs on Reinstalling grub ..... [13:52] anyone have any idea [13:55] brb reboot [14:20] here is a logg from boot-repair >> paste.ubuntu.com/5637000 [14:21] i realy need help to get my installation to boot or some way to make a fresh install that works.... but i need to install os on sdb not sda [14:24] iv tryed to install with the option to use the hole disk and i tryed making partitions myself nothing works.... now im booted in live on my usb stick [14:27] ziggy, i'd certainly look over all of the steps outlined on the wiki page. i also don't see why you have to have your storage disk be sda. can you not just switch the sata cables around, if that's the issue? [14:28] i cant switch them.... warrantu issues if i do.... [14:28] oh, gimme a break [14:29] so you meen if i open it upp and switch them my warranty is still okej _ [14:29] ? [14:29] i've never heard of a warranty that included the positioning of the sata cables [14:29] Hello guys is there a way I can get a pre-version of 13.04 ? [14:29] and update it official when it is out [14:29] using updater [14:29] i've worked for dell and hp and we never told people they couldn't open the systems up and change things [14:30] what the warranty said was, if you break it, it's your fault [14:30] im no warranty expert thats why im asking [14:30] okej then [14:30] the warranty said if it leaves the factory in a defective state, it gets replaced, not that you can't mess with it [14:30] anyone ? [14:30] o.o ?! [14:31] !patience [14:31] !daily [14:31] Don't feel ignored and repeat your question quickly; if nobody knows your answer, nobody will answer you. While you wait, try searching https://help.ubuntu.com/ or http://ubuntuforums.org/ or http://askubuntu.com/ [14:31] Daily builds of the CD images of the current development version of Ubuntu are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ [14:31] so I need to install it everyday ? [14:31] to get the latest update [14:31] of course not [14:32] updates are pushed out to you [14:32] :( [14:32] okej i will try to switch and unplug my storage disk totaly when installing [14:32] iKillCypher: you just update and upgrade everyday [14:32] then i should create and efi boot partition right ? [14:32] it [14:33] using updater ? [14:33] any changelog ? [14:33] ziggy, i recommend you read the wiki page. it does work, i am using an efi/ssd system right now [14:33] the sofrtware updater or apt-get in the terminal, iKillCypher [14:34] iKillCypher, you're stressing out about this way too much [14:34] lol yeah kinda excited [14:34] :D [14:34] wanna get rid of my windows [14:35] really. how will you let natural light into your house? [14:35] iKillCypher: have you run linux before ? [14:35] nope [14:35] but want to learn [14:35] then you don't want to start with a dev release [14:35] then maybe you should dualboot [14:36] run a livecd first and then go from there [14:36] why not ? [14:36] !dualboot | iKillCypher [14:36] iKillCypher: Dual boot instructions: x86/AMD64: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DualBoot/Windows - Macs: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro https://help.ubuntu.com/community/YabootConfigurationForMacintoshPowerPCsDualBoot [14:36] because it's really different than your current operating system [14:36] I know o.o [14:36] because there is a good chance it is broken and you won't know how to fix it. [14:36] but isnt it faster [14:37] faster, i doubt it [14:37] you should download 12.10 and try it on a live USB [14:37] !usb [14:37] For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent [14:37] could be more stable, depending on your hardware [14:37] or inside a VM [14:38] so what if I want to upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04 ? [14:38] need redownload the iso and reinstall [14:38] :( [14:38] might be faster if your system is loaded with crapware/bloatware [14:39] your ubuntu system will tell you there is a new version and ask you if you want to upgrade [14:39] it will then download the new packages and upgrade [14:39] so my data wont be lost ? [14:39] of course not [14:39] so it is possible to upgrade from 12.10 - > 13.04 ? [14:39] yes [14:39] linux wouldn't be of much use if it destroyed your data during upgrades [14:39] iKillCypher: once 13.04 is released to the public, yes. [14:40] nice :D [14:40] cant wait [14:40] lol [14:59] well you can do it now... edit /etc/apt/sources.list and then do a apt-get dist-upgrade .... not recomended [15:01] do you guys get paid for developing ubuntu ? [15:02] bjsnider, i will read the wiki im just realy confused why it does not work now.... im gonna change my drives sata cables now.... brb [15:03] iKillCypher, the Canonical employees do [15:03] Others are just volunteers and are un-paid [15:04] is it true that ubuntu is coded in c ? [15:05] iKillCypher, not exactly.... [15:05] Lots of languages [15:05] ok time to boot into ubuntu will be back later :D [16:06] hi there. anyone had all their accounts become unusable in 13.04 empathy? [16:07] cannot see the account details and cannot delete what is there. pretty strange (there are just blank spaces instead of the account names etc) [17:19] hi guys, i make ubs with 13.04 alpha but i have a problem.... /casper/vmlinuz file not found. i make my USB flash with Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.2.5 === yofel_ is now known as yofel [18:48] i see that there is a new 3.8.4 kernel for linux. It appears that in the last couple of days, there has been a reversion in Compiz re: amnesia on keyboard shortcuts. My shortcuts for Desktop Wall switching were finally working fine after reboot, and now they get reset to defautls every time [22:08] Is anyone familiar with unetbootin? It seems to fail to start for me on raring. Run as my user, it exits with no diagnostic info at all. If I sudo first, it hangs. From what I can tell from strace, it seems to be stuck trying to do something with dbus [22:34] empathy 's contact list is ridiculously large in 13.04 === echidnaman is now known as JontheEchidna === murthy_ is now known as murthy [23:32] maxb: Use gksudo instead of sudo [23:32] bekks: The result is unchanged, it still hangs [23:33] +1, I've got that problem with unetbootin too [23:33] maxb: did you report a bug maybe? [23:33] Not yet, I was hoping to gather information more useful than "it hangs" first [23:35] maxb: I think it's some problem with gksudo actually.
