[13:46] If so, does it actually work? [15:03] I'm having trouble connecting to a WPA2 wireless network (WPA works, card supports WP2) , could someone point me in the right direction? [16:55] Chalksmith: can you get a list of access points? [17:04] MacGuges: yes, with "sudo iwlist scanning" I get 8. The one I wish to connect to is the first [17:09] I'm watching [17:15] Chalksmith: so you're using the command line. is your wlan interface showing on iwconfig? [17:16] you can specify your AP with the command iwconfig essid [17:23] MacGuges: well I've been trying to use network-manager as I usually do but it tries to connect and after some time just says it has disconnected without ever connect to the internet [17:24] MacGuges: I used the command you suggested [17:24] ok [17:26] if you enter the command iwconfig (by itself) you should see your interface with some information about your AP listed. [17:27] you can then run sudo dhclient to request an IP address from your AP [17:27] that is how you'd configure WPA2 through the shell. [17:29] running iwconfig alone gives some information such as the essid is set correctly however I have "Access Point: Not-Associated" [17:29] I'm running dhclient now and there is no output to the terminal [17:30] and it hasn't returned yet [17:33] ah, it returned [17:33] oh, dhclient may be a daemon-type process. or else it may just be waiting for a response. [17:33] oh good [17:33] now trying iwconfig has "ESSID:off/any" [17:34] ok [17:36] I've been using wicd myself lately, though Network Manager usually does a fine job in ubuntu. [17:37] well it works well for my wpa connections [17:37] would wicd work on ubuntu? would it be worth giving it a shot? [17:37] just not this wpa2 one? [17:37] yep [17:38] It won't hurt to install an alternative. [17:38] you'd just need to turn off the Network manager service before starting the wicd service. [17:38] how do I do that? [17:39] http://askubuntu.com/questions/19320/whats-the-recommended-way-to-enable-disable-services [17:40] you'd use Startup Applications.. [17:40] kk [17:40] I'll just do all that [17:40] if you're in unity, enter startup ap [17:40] will be a min [17:40] gl [17:48] I think I'm using wicd now [17:49] I'll give the wireless a go [17:49] you'll be using a different gui for wicd. [17:49] I run wicd-client on my laptop to manager my access points. [17:50] err, manage [18:39] i am bored of lvms and overclocking === geirha1 is now known as geirha === lukjad007 is now known as lukjad === rarkenin_ is now known as rarkenin === rarkenin is now known as Guest72840 === Guest72840 is now known as rarkenin
