MountainXI'm running Kubuntu 12.04. After a system update about a month ago KSnapshot stopped working for me. All it does is capture the stock desktop background. I cannot actually capture any application windows. Anyone else seeing this?00:37
MountainXMy KSnapshot version is 0.8.200:38
MountainXGimp's screen capture feature has the same error. The appearance of the error coincides with a Kubuntu system update that changed the way the desktop is shown (now hidden better) when the desktop is locked. I am guessing it was a security change. But it broke the ability of apps to capture the screen. Surely other people have experienced this...00:48
MountainXIn case it matters, I'm running KDE platform version 4.8.5 and kernel 3.2.0-39-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 28 00:28:53 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux01:15
valorieMountainX: have you checked for a bug in bugs.kde.org?01:47
valoriesounds more like a KDE bug than a Kubuntu packaging error01:47
valoriealthough a check of launchpad of course would be worthwhile as well01:47
valoriethe bug trackers are more likely to give you information than random people paying attention in channel01:48
MountainXvalorie: I just checked at bugs.kde.org and I did not find anything that looked relevant to me. There are 145 bugs related to KSnapshot.01:57
valorieso it may be a kwin problem01:59
valorieso I suggest #kwin02:00

simion314hi all, any idea why the hell all say that openSUSE has athe best KDE implementation? I am running Kubuntu for years and I think all the bugs or issues are upstream bugs and not packaging bugs,  also having latest KDe on 12.04 LTS is great , the kubuntu devs are great09:58
ihatetearinga (for me rather annoying) bug ( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307965 ) is fixed in kde 4.11, when can I expect that fix to arrive in kubuntu? 14.04? (planned release date for 4.11 is 2013-8-14)10:01

skramer_Hi. I would like to scan an image directly into The Gimp, but there´s no option for that on Kubuntu 12.04 and KDE 4.10.1? Any hints how to do that as I could not find much useful information on the web?11:49
BluesKajHiyas all11:50
lordievaderGood afternoon12:00
z4chIs there anyone here that could help me compile something from source? I'm getting a command not found error when i try to run ./configure12:04
lordievaderWhat command is not found, z4ch?12:06
z4ch./configure12:07
z4chi'm fairly new to linux, i think maybe it just means that this source package doesn't have a configure file right?12:07
BluesKajz4 is there a readme file ?12:08
z4chbut i try to run autoconf bc there's a configure.ac.in file, but it doens't work and has a huge list of code that shows up12:08
BluesKajz4ch: ^12:08
z4chyeah, the readme says to run ./configure :/12:08
lordievaderz4ch: That is a script.. There is probably a command in there for which the package isn't installed.12:08
lordievaderz4ch: Did you install the build-essentials package?12:08
z4chyeah12:08
lordievaderbuild-essential*12:09
z4chand there were about 5 packages on the site that said they were dependencies so i installed those too, one of them being autoconf12:09
lordievaderz4ch: Can you pastebin the full output you get when you run this configure script? (http://paste.kde.org/)12:09
BluesKajz4ch:  you need to be in the path , cd to the package/app directory in the terminal then run ./configure12:10
z4chi'm not that new to linux. lol12:11
z4chand sorry this is taking me a little bit, i'm using teamviewer from work12:11
z4chthere's a little lag12:11
z4chi pasted the output from ./configure12:12
BluesKajz4ch:  well, don't know what you know or don't know12:12
z4chif you want me to paste the output from autoconf' it's going ot be a lot more12:12
z4chi know, i was just sying12:12
lordievaderz4ch: Just the output when you run the configure script.12:13
z4ch~/paste/70941812:13
lordievaderz4ch: Is this paste.kde?12:15
z4chi think. i just clicked on th elink you typed then pasted it in there12:16
z4chbut it's only one line, should i just type it?12:16
z4chit says "bash: ./configure: No such file or directory12:17
z4ch"12:17
lordievaderz4ch: Yes I see now. And you are in the right path? When you run ls you see the configure script?12:17
z4chyeah, i just dont think there's a configure script in this source package. does that happen sometimes?12:17
lordievaderz4ch: Does the ls command list it?12:18
BluesKajz4ch:  you should see one12:18
z4chno12:18
lordievaderz4ch: There is your problem ;)12:18
z4chjust conifgure.ac.in12:18
z4chso then do i need to use autoconf to generate a configure script?12:19
lordievaderz4ch: No, it should be in the source tar-ball.12:19
z4chso this is prbly just an complete tar-ball?12:19
lordievaderz4ch: What did you download exactly?12:20
z4chps3-utils12:20
z4chwell, ps3-utils.2.3 to be more precise12:20
z4chthe only .deb file i could fine was for the powerpc architecture12:21
lordievaderz4ch: The ps3-utils_2.3.orig.tar.gz?12:21
z4chyes12:21
lordievaderz4ch: Isn't in the repo? https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/ps3-utils/2.3-112:22
lordievader!info ps3-utils12:22
ubottuPackage ps3-utils does not exist in quantal12:22
z4chi downloaded the one i have from launchpad12:23
z4chjust from the precise page instead of quantal12:23
lordievaderz4ch: You are right it is the autoconf thingie: "The file `configure.in' is used to create `configure' by a program12:24
lordievadercalled `autoconf'.  You only need `configure.in' if you want to change12:24
lordievaderit or regenerate `configure' using a newer version of `autoconf'."12:24
BluesKajz4ch:  which kubuntu are you running?12:29
=== kubuntu is now known as Guest9483
BluesKajodd that the config file is missing or corrupted. lordievader12:40
yofelnot odd, there's a bootstrap script in there which has to be run first12:41
yofelcommon thing with autotools12:41
BluesKajhi yofel , then it should be listed in the readme instructions12:42
yofelindeed12:43
lordievaderIt is, I quoted the readme a bit back.12:43
lordievaderIt is mentioned in the readme, I mean.12:44
yofellordievader: the bootstrap script itself isn't explicitely mentioned - so you would first need to know what the autotools are to use this12:48
lordievaderyofel: True, it isn't a great readme.12:49

keithzgHmm, tomahawk has only one major flaw for me: it doesn't notice my play/pause button unless I have the application in focus (and unlike Amarok, etc it doesn't show up as a component in the SystemSettings global shortcuts config, so I can't apparently set that up easily).19:05
lordievaderkeithzg: Does it have some command line options/dbus?19:06
keithzglordievader: according to a forum post from february last year it does implement the MPRIS2 media player spec via dbus19:07
lordievaderkeithzg: You might be able to control it through there. Set it up in a bash script and call the script with a global key-shortcut.19:07
keithzglordievader: yeah, looking into that right now; I see at least some folks have done so for Clementine (http://wiki.clementine-player.googlecode.com/git/MPRIS.wiki ) so it shouldn't be too hard for me to figure this out :)19:09
lordievaderkeithzg: I believe my clemetine/music-control script also uses mpris, I'll take a look.19:10
lordievaderHmm it doesn't, it just simply calls clementine -t (or something)...19:11
lordievaderkeithzg: This works though with mpris (still clementine): qdbus org.mpris.clementine /Player org.freedesktop.MediaPlayer.Play19:12
keithzglordievader: Sadly for tomahawk "No such object path '/Player'"19:13
lordievaderkeithzg: What options does it give for "qdbus org.mpris.tomahawk" <- I think it is that?19:14
keithzglordievader: /,/AudioOutputs,/AudioOutputs/0,/org,/org/mpris,/org/mpris/MediaPlayer219:15
lordievaderkeithzg: I think you need /org/mpris/MediaPLayer219:15
keithzglordievader: As the second argument, replacing /Player?  Still no such object path. Hmm . . .19:17
lordievaderkeithzg: Yes so your command becomes: qdbus org.mpris.tomahawk /org/mpris/MediaPlayer219:17
lordievaderkeithzg: I'll download tomahawk, and check it out ;)19:18
keithzglordievader: :) Although I think I might have it, actually . . . I just copy-pasted your line like a script kiddie, that was the issue19:18
keithzglordievader: Not sure quite where the typo is, but "qdbus org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.tomahawk /org/mpris/MediaPlayer2 org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player.PlayPause" works fine!19:19
lordievaderkeithzg: Ah yes, I didn't have tomahawk installed had to guess for a bit.19:20
keithzglordievader: Well, you got ridiculously close, and it solved this in the end for me, so many thanks :)19:21
lordievaderkeithzg: No problem ;)19:21
lordievaderkeithzg: If you use more that one music player what you could do is build a check in your bash script to check what program is running. It's what my script does :)19:24
keithzglordievader: Good idea, that makes sense19:24

jussiSonikkuAmerica: I assume you ave been in system settings and set the headset as default? and in kmix and adjusted the headset settings there?20:24
SonikkuAmericaYep. Even went to Phonon.20:25
jussiSonikkuAmerica: can you define " I can't get the sound to work properly..."20:26
jussiie. what is "not working properly" ?20:26
SonikkuAmericajussi: Sure, it typically happens when connecting and disconnecting: when I do one or the other, sounds and music cease to play.20:27
SonikkuAmericajussi: Then when I re-set the playback to "built-in audio," it doesn't work until I reboot.20:28
SonikkuAmericaOops! False alarm, it works now! (I had rebooted previously) Thanks anyway! ::facepalms::20:30
