lamont | I ran into something that I don't know if it's a bug, or user error: user A shares a folder to user B, who sees it just fine on the website. user B then adds a device (android phone in this case) using the google play Feb version of 'Ubuntu One Files'.user B's phone does not see the shared folder, regardless of efforts. user A unshares the folder, and reshares it to B. B accepts it on the | 13:39 |
lamont | website (again), and now the android phone sees the folder just fine. | 13:39 |
lamont | is that expected? | 13:39 |
lamont | (or should I file a bug) | 13:40 |

nessita | karni, hi there, perhaps you know the answer for lamont ? | 13:57 |
* karni reads | 13:58 | |
karni | lamont: Impossible. Ubuntu One Files does not support shares. There is no server side API for shares. | 13:59 |
lamont | other minor(?) thing: the first time the folder was shared, it had nothing in it, and then a file was uploaded. THEN the android device was added to the account | 13:59 |
karni | Whatever you share from one user, will never get to the second user's phone. That's just not implemented (sadly). | 13:59 |
* karni re-reads | 13:59 | |
lamont | interesting. because it _was_ there for a brief period. now it's gone | 14:00 |
lamont | karni: is that inplan in anyway? | 14:00 |
karni | lamont: To my best knowledge I can tell you this feature, shares, is not implemented. Sadly, no, there are no plans to support shares in the near future. | 14:01 |
karni | lamont: Were you using one phone, with user A and B? | 14:01 |
karni | lamont: There's a bug we don't clear metadata on the phone, so you could see some "leftover" files from the user that logged out. | 14:01 |
lamont | that wouldn't be the case - user A has never logged in on the phone | 14:02 |
karni | lamont: so, user A shared to B via website. B installed U1F, but no share visible. user A unshared the folder, then shared it again (yes?), B accepted on the website, and it appeared o the phone? (there's even no "shared" section :'( ) | 14:03 |
lamont | correct. the folder showed up... I didn't actually go look for the file in that folder. | 14:04 |
=== wedgwood is now known as wedgwood_away
lamont | then you said "impossible" and I reopened u1 files, and uh, no folder. | 14:05 |
=== wedgwood_away is now known as wedgwood
karni | lamont: huh o_O I'll try to reproduce that, but probably not this week :( | 14:05 |
lamont | np | 14:06 |
lamont | mind you, I consider it disappearing afterwards to be the bug, though I gather that's not the case. :( | 14:06 |
lamont | karni: I assume all of the above (shared stuff from A doesn't get to B's device) is true of ios and android? | 14:07 |
karni | lamont: yes, no shares API :( | 14:08 |
lamont | ah. lack of an API explains everything | 14:08 |
karni | lamont: yes, nothing should have appeared in the first place :( | 14:08 |
karni | lamont: sorry, starting a meeting now :( | 14:09 |
lamont | but user B should be able to access the file via the web interface from his phone? | 14:09 |
lamont | np | 14:09 |
karni | lamont: yes | 14:09 |
=== wedgwood is now known as wedgwood_away
lamont | woot | 14:09 |
karni | lamont: just the web interface is not that great. we're looking into improving it. | 14:09 |
lamont | less-than-great workarounds are generally better than no-workaround situations. | 14:12 |
