=== gst is now known as seekr [01:42] Hi guys. is it common for linux not to recognize multiple partitions from the same SD card? I partitionated my sd card into 1 fat32 and 1 ext3 for my android, but now when I plug my phone in my pc, it only recognizes the ext3 [01:42] I searched in lots of places for a similar issue, but I couldn't find. [01:43] (When I try using KDE Partition Manager, it finds both partitions, but, as I said, the OS gives only the hability to mount the ext3 when I plug the usb) [01:45] |: [01:55] thanks again to those who helped get me up and running earlier...12.10 is quite good without unity! :) very hassle-free kde desktop, i'm quite impressed...and the latest nvidia drivers, helpful in my case as my card tends to glitch out with anything other than the 310.x+ official drivers :( [01:56] i have installed lampp(sudo apt-get install lamp-server^) then xampp so i wanted to uninstall lampp and runned sudo apt-get autoremove lamp-server^ but my ubuntu/kubuntu started do remove lots of other packages. i managed to fix desktop log in by sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop kubuntu-desktop but i have 1gb of packages waiting to be removd an i find out that some are already missing so my question is how to (is there [01:56] any command) install all again without formatting like inserting disc and install again to fix all things missing and broken? [01:56] Hi guys, anybody there nows if it's normal to (K)Ubuntu not to recognize more than 1 partition from a sd card? Does anyone know how to make it recognize both? (It's the sd card from my mobile phone, it has a ext3 and a fat32 partition, but only the ext is being recognized) [01:57] Didn't know it was the same channel, sorry for asking twice :/ [02:46] oi... does anyone know the default folder for precise wallpaper? [02:54] L3mce: system wallpapers are in /usr/share/wallpapers personal wallpapers are in ~/.kde/share/wallpapers/ [03:19] ty tsimpson... very helpful! [13:14] The Desktop. [13:15] The splash screen takes a while to disappear, then it takes a little while more to present a usable desktop. [13:16] dundee: Hmm, not sure how to do so, but this might be a start: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1889034 [13:19] lordievader: Thanks. I tried this a couple months ago and my Desktop was more responsive. However, it still takes a long time to log in. [13:21] lordievader: The KDE desktop takes too long to prepare after log in. [13:22] dundee: I know what you talk about, however it never bothered me much. [13:23] dundee: If you make a new user, is the logon quicker for the new user or not? [13:24] lordievader: The logon still takes a while with a new user. I also deleted my ~/.kde at one point. [13:25] lordievader: Its not a big problem because the desktop is very responsive after log on. [13:27] dundee: I saw a blog post a while back about this. There was a KDE developer who had made some changes to the procedure of log-on, resulting in a much quicker logon. So perhaps in the future it will be faster ;) [13:27] lordievader: Its just that sometimes I want to quickly log in to do something. So my friends laptop will be ugraded to 4.10 :) [14:09] snele: why not 4.10.1? [14:10] Hehe, havent said athing snele, however I believe 4.10 is shipped with 12.04.2. [14:10] ovidiu-florin: yes I meant 4.10.1. what ever is in backports ppa [14:10] snele: ;) [14:10] lordievader: no it is 4.8.5 ;) [14:11] i had wird crashes on 13.04 64bit but it seem to be related to qt 4.8.4 in raring. precise have older qt so no crashes it seems :) [14:12] In 12.04.2 too, I could swear 12.04.2 had all the blue/purple stuff 4.10 has. (I'm not talking about 12.04.0) [14:15] anyone using open source radeon drivers with video tearing issues? my Xorg log shows :(II) RADEON(0): SwapBuffers wait for vsync: enabled. I have also enable vsync for kwin but to no avail. [14:16] fglrx is not an option for me though since it drops support for RV7xx [14:26] mysticalzero: I am using radeon driver and don't have tearing issues even with kwin vsync disabled [14:27] mysticalzero: you can reset kwin to its defaults (delete kwinrc in ~/.kde/share/config and than alt+f2 and type kwin --replace ) [14:28] or update drivers, mesa and kernel [14:28] i am using all the latest [14:28] latest driver and mesa https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/mesa [14:29] latest kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ [14:29] hope it helps ;) [14:33] #latex [15:05] hey, can someone tell me what the current kernel version should be on an up to date 12.10 install? Or can someone tell me where i can find this information? thanks [15:10] snele: thanks. sadly the ppa doesn't include builds for quantal. anyway, i'll give xorg-edges ppa a try. [15:10] xorg-edgers is usually a bad idea. Bleeding edge is allmost allways a bad idea. [15:11] Captain_Awesome: My Quantal install has 3.5.0-26 [15:11] lordievader: ok thanks [15:18] lordievader: noted. i've run out of ideas on the video tearing problem though. guess i will just live with it. doesn't seem to be a kwin problem as disabling kwin does not get rid of it. that's when i thought of upgrading the graphics stack. [15:19] mysticalzero: Why was fglrx not an option again? [15:20] lordievader: ati/amd drops support for RV7xx gpus. :| [15:21] mysticalzero: So take an older version. [15:36] lordievader: well, the older fglrx doesn't support Xorg 1.13 which is the base version for quantal. [15:42] lordievader: nvm. Dabei möchte ich diese nicht mit einem vorangestellten Punkt (also verstecken) ausblenden. [20:22] Das wäre also keine Lösung. [20:23] Ups, that's an english channel. Ok, again: [20:25] I have a question regarding Konqueor: How can I hide files with a specific extension? (I do NOT want to hide them with a previous dot.) [20:31] I have a question regarding Konqueor: How can I hide files with a specific extension? (I do NOT want to hide them with a previous dot.) [21:27] raeg, Create a file named ".hidden" in the dir of the file to be hidden. write the filename of the file to be hidden into .hidden [21:27] esing: I have tried this, but it does not work. [21:27] let me try [21:27] esing: I am using Konqueror [21:30] esing: I created an empty file "test.txt" and a text file ".hidden" with the two lines "test.txt" and an empty line. [21:32] esing: and? did it work for you? [21:33] raeg, No, I use dolphin though [21:34] that is not encouraging [21:34] For Nautilus it should work I think [21:37] esing: I read that, too. However, I am not using it :-(. === kubuntu is now known as Guest31750 [21:40] raeg, I worry it's not implemented yet for dolphin and konqueror [21:40] esing: I got the same impression [21:40] raeg, Why don't you want to use the dot [21:41] holy dang [21:41] kubuntu 13.04 has some nice desktop effects [21:41] esing: Because the files that I want to hide are automatically generated. I want to hide the .aux files and other similar files that are generated by pdflatex. [21:42] angerbot <.< [21:42] raeg, You can make a script to automatically rename the .aux files to e.g. .file.aux [21:42] esing: but pdflatex does need the aux in the next run [21:43] therfore I can not change the name [21:43] I see [21:44] I think this is a seriously basic function. I have to admit, I am sort of sad that it is not implemented. [21:44] I could really use it. [21:45] I mean I really need it. [21:46] raeg, You can file a request on the konquerors dev forum/mail [21:47] Actually I googled only for dolphin and .hidden, but I guess it's the same for konqueror [21:47] esing: I have not the faintest idea where and how to do that. That doesn't make any sense. Do you mean to the repositories? [23:41] jman074: If so, then man add-apt-repository [23:42] hello [23:42] lol actually you add the deb blah blah blah to systems software resources to add the repositories manualy but i found another way thank
