aquariusif my webcam has stopped working in latest raring, but was working in raring a week or two ago, which information do I need to attach to an LP bug to help narrow down the problem?10:11

davmor2jsalisbury: morning,  Kernels installed 3.8.2 and 3.8.3 seemed to build efi bits but didn't work with secureboot, 3.8.4 didn't seem to create an efi entry.  I'm just checking the manifest of taday iso to see if it contains the new kernel version and updating the isos.  If it contains the new kernel I'll enable secureboot and see if works with the latest image.11:50

hrwbtw - 3.9-rc5 from ~kernel-ppa are unusable14:20
diwicrtg_, if this is also what's going to be used for 12.04.4 that means that the support for the next generation Intel ships (i e Broadwell) needs to be backported to 3.10, I suppose 14:20

aquariusjsalisbury, thanks. I was worried you were going to say "hey, test a bunch of kernels when you don't really know what you're doing, Langridge" and indeed you have, but it is clearly the right thing to do, and I shall test :)15:28
jsalisburyaquarius, :) thanks.  Once we know the first bad kernel version, we will have a bunch more kernels to test to identify the offending commit ;-)15:28

bjfdobey, do you have sha1 for them ?15:40
dobeybjf: no, and i don't know if they've been committed upstream yet15:40
bjfdobey, if you give me some pointers i can look in the git repo15:41

bjfdobey, looking15:43
dobeythanks15:43
dobeysuppose i could have just cloned and tried to patch15:43
bjfdobey, it doesn't look like either of those are in raring at this time15:45
dobeybjf: ok, thanks for looking. guess i'll see if i can't git clone, patch, and build a kernel to test them then. hopefully they apply cleanly :)15:47
dobeyis http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git the right url?15:48
dobey(to clone from)15:48
bjfdobey, yes, though with the http issues we seem to be having right now that may be pretty slow15:48

rtg_ogra_, doko's rebuild test for raring failed on ti-omap4 which was synced from Quantal. Is it really necessary that I fix the build issue ? Can we drop this source package from raring ?16:33
ogra_do you have a source package that builds ?16:33
ogra_if so drop the other16:34
rtg_ogra_, not for ti-omap416:34
ogra_but we need to have the source for the binary we ship in the archive 16:34
ogra_(and if only for apt-get source)16:34
rtg_ogra_, so what _are_ we shipping ? I mean, is there an installation image that depends on ti-omap4 ?16:34
ogra_usually binaries that havent been built from an exosting source get removed by the archive admins16:35
ogra_yeas, the desktop image does16:35
ogra_talk to management if you want it dropped ...16:35
ogra_i asked for dropping and then a decision was made to keep it with the old kernel version16:35
rtg_ogra_, i.e. rick ? I really don't want to have to support ti-omap416:36
ogra_since we sent out too many of these boards to the community for dogfooding ... 16:36
ogra_we wont "support" it16:36
ogra_no security, no SRUs16:36
ogra_but it needs to build once in raring to ship it and keep it in the archive16:36
rtg_weill, I still have to put time into it in order to get it building again. I guess that is kind of support.16:37
ogra_kind of, yes16:37
rtg_I guess if the decision was made then I'd better just do it.16:37
ogra_rtg_, looks to me like a "build_tools=false" is enough16:38
rtg_ogra_, yeah, its simple enough fix16:38
ogra_(and probably ripping the tools package out of the control file)16:38
ogra_if people complain, send them my way 16:39
rtg_or just send them away :)16:39
ogra_that would be largely the same :)16:39
* ogra_ would just block his ears and sing lalala until they are done complaining :)16:39
rtg_bjf, you'll never touch Quantal ti-omap4 again, right ?16:50
bjfrtg, correct16:51
bjfrtg, what are we running on buildds ?16:51
ogra_good question16:51
ogra_infinity, ^^^16:52
bjfinfinity, what ti-omap kernel are we using on buildds ?16:52
ogra_what are the pandas using underneath 16:52
rtg_bjf, ok, I'm gonna upload into raring with just a minor version bump (and the compile fix). we'll also _never_ touch ti-omap4 in raring either.16:52
rtg_likely precise16:52
infinitybjf: precise.16:52
ogra_yeah16:52
bjfrtg, ok, so all other ti-omap are dead to me16:52
rtg_good16:52
infinityrtg_: Wait, why are we uploading ti-omap4 to raring?16:53
bjfppisati, ^16:53
rtg_infinity, rebuild failure from doko16:53
ogra_infinity, to not have it in NBS16:53
infinityrtg_: Ignore that FTBFS.16:53
infinityrtg_: It's a direct copy from Q on purpose.16:53
ogra_infinity, and NBS ?16:53
infinityogra_: What does NBS have to do with anything?16:53
rtg_infinity, I'm good with that. would you care to comment on bug #1163443 ?16:53
ubot2`Launchpad bug 1163443 in linux-ti-omap4 (Ubuntu Raring) "linux-ti-omap4 ftbfs in raring" [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/116344316:53
ogra_dunno, i would expect doko to rip out the package 16:53
infinityogra_: It's built from source.16:54
ogra_infinity, its a trivial fix (disabling tools)16:54
infinityIt's not built in raring, but that's fine.16:54
infinityogra_: I know, but the copy is a copy ON PURPOSE.16:54
ogra_hmm16:54
infinityRebuilding it is counter-productive.16:54
ogra_then i misunderstand NBS16:54
ogra_i thought thats always for the current release16:54
infinityNBS means binaries that don't match a source upload.  A copy of source+binaries can't be NBS. :P16:55
ogra_ok16:55
ogra_rtg_, take a walk ;)16:55
rtg_ogra_, can do.16:55
ogra_and dont listen to me :)16:55
infinityrtg_: We were keeping it as copies intentionally, as R support is shorter than Q's, so there's no point building it in R at all.16:55
infinity(And I intended to keep doing this post-release, as well)16:56
rtg_infinity, bjf and I are really fine with that.16:56
infinityrtg_: Bug closed wontfix and commented.16:57
rtg_infinity, cool, thanks16:58
