[21:24] robert_ancell: I have a friend having issues trying to install ubuntu ... https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/226027 [21:24] thumper, RAOF and bryceh are probably the best people to ask [21:24] I'll hit up RAOF once he starts... [23:39] thumper: Launchpad Answers? Oldschool! [23:39] hi RAOF [23:40] RAOF: apparently someone on irc pointed him there :) [23:40] and he didn't know better [23:44] thumper: So, there's not much to do without some form of logs. [23:44] RAOF: how can we get logs when he is left at a blank screen? [23:45] This is a good question. [23:47] I feel bad for him because he asked me prior to buying this machine if it would work [23:47] and I said: I don't see why not [23:47] and now he is having trouble [23:47] * thumper sighs [23:51] Yeah. [23:52] I also don't see why it wouldn't work. [23:55] me neither, but my understanding of graphics stack is somewhat limited [23:56] thumper: can he not drop to tty and "apport-collect " ? [23:57] popey: I think it is during the installer process, so no... [23:57] popey: or put another way, I have no idea [23:58] if he turns off secure-boot, he can get the live DVD working [23:58] ah [23:58] sorry, missed that bit [23:58] popey: np [23:58] also, fun bug of the day - bug 1165927 [23:58] so the graphics card obviously works to an extent [23:58] Launchpad bug 1165927 in linux (nUbuntu) "List with CRITICAL tons of bugs, dont have the time to add them seperately" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1165927 [23:58] haha [23:58] thumper: yeah, I have zero experience of ATI - for exactly this reason [23:59] popey: because it doesn't work? [23:59] It's not clear whether he's tried booting normally after disabling secure boot (which should not be necessary). [23:59] RAOF: well, if he disables secure boot, he can't see his win8 partition [23:59] or more precisely, the installer doesn't recognise the win8 partition as an OS [23:59] so wants to blow it all away [23:59] thumper: He can get the live DVD *working*? The question suggests that he gets only a blank screen?
