=== jbermudes_ is now known as jbermudes [06:05] Knock knock: @ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/Meetings "The Ubuntu Studio development team regularly meets on the first Sunday of every month at 17:00 UTC" ... no updates after August 2012. === FisherMack|AFK is now known as FisherMack [09:41] Hey folks [09:42] FisherMack, greetings [09:42] Can anyone suggest a good sound card for recording mostly speech but occasionally music as well? [09:42] howdy, cfhowlett [09:43] cfhowlett: we don't do a lot of meetings these days. All though, we meet online pretty much every day [09:43] FisherMack, i'm guessing this is for a desktop box? [09:43] I need something that will play well with ubuntu [09:43] Yeah [09:43] FisherMack, http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Sound-HOWTO/x96.html [09:43] FisherMack, done and done [09:44] Look at ya go.. lol Thanks cfhowlett [09:44] FisherMack, errr or not. OLD list [09:44] FisherMack: What is more important than your device is propably what microphone you use, depending on your needs [09:45] Well I will be using a mixer and amp. I connect my mics to my mixer and my mixer to my amp and my amp to the sound card. [09:45] http://wiki.linuxmusicians.com/doku.php?id=hardware [09:45] FisherMack, mixer? or interface? [09:46] Behringer Xenyx 502 [09:47] FisherMack: Why not connect the mixer direcly to the sound device? And what kind of amp are you talking about? Stereo AMP? [09:48] Weeellllll that's just it... Money is lacking and I don't have the best of equipment. The amp I am using is a Fender Bullet 150 [09:48] FisherMack: For recording, it is more important with a good audio device, but I suspect you can get pretty decent results using just a builtin, if you have an ok mic and mic amp [09:49] I haven't tried that myself for about 12 years or so [09:49] builtin cards have progressed since then :P [09:50] Yeah, I am using my builtin card for the input.. My sound only seems to work for OUTPUT and none of my INPUTS work so I have to use the builtin [09:52] FisherMack: You have multiple devices? [09:52] I have the builtin, an ASUS Xonar DG and an NVIDIA video card with HDMI support [09:53] oh, right [09:53] hdmi will only work for output of course [09:54] right but I don't use it for that anyhow... I use it to my 2nd monitor [09:57] But the HDMI shows up in my audacity [09:59] but the inputs on my sound card do not... [09:59] I can only figure it is something with my card doesnt like [10:03] which is why I was asking for suggestions for good sound cards for ubuntu [10:04] FisherMack: I still think it's strange it doesn't work [10:04] FisherMack: Do inputs work with pulseaudio? [10:05] FisherMack: Also, are you able to start jack at all? [10:11] lol [10:11] No and No [10:11] Inputs don't work whatsoever [10:12] On the sound card that is. The builtin inputs work [10:19] FisherMack: Then it's a alsa bug. Have you reported a bug? [10:25] No [10:26] FisherMack: Do you have a launchpad account? [10:26] I didn't think it was a bug. I just figured it my was card [10:26] No [10:28] FisherMack: Get yourself an account. Just so you have one, and can log in. This will enable you to report bugs, and comment on them https://launchpad.net/ [10:28] FisherMack: Then, in a terminal, do: ubuntu-bug alsa-base [10:32] OK done [10:33] I figure alsa-base is the correct package, but the actual drivers are probably a part of the kernel [10:35] Ok the bug data is being processed === smartboyhw_ is now known as smartboyhw [19:59] Does Ubuntu Studio follow the LTS plan for Ubuntu or Xubuntu, or does it have its own release plan? [20:00] s/release/LTS [20:25] I beleive it does [20:25] Follow Ubuntu that is [20:26] gahh === FisherMack is now known as FisherMack|Away
