[02:57] Hello [02:58] I was wondering if anybody could point me towards a solution to get my wireless card working. Pretty new to Linux and need some help. Running Xubuntu on an HP ze5300 [03:03] xubuntu378: Hey, welcome to Xubuntu! Do you know what your wireless card is? [03:04] Hey Sonik. Thank you for responding. I do have it but give me a second please. Need to find where i wrote it down [03:04] * SonikkuAmerica is a Unity user but runs Xubuntu 12.04 LTS in a hypervisor [03:08] it is an Agere 802.11b Mini-pci wireless card [03:09] xubuntu378: Is it the Agre ORiNOCO? [03:10] No it isn't though i do have an old orinoco gold card that i used to use for stumbling but this one is onboard [03:13] xubuntu378: Head for Applications > Accesories > Terminal Emulator and type in [ iwconfig ] after the window shows up, then hit ENTER. [03:14] Got it. Should i paste the results? [03:15] Sure. http://paste.ubuntu.com [03:15] wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"RedBetsy" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: 00:26:5A:FB:AF:52 Retry short limit:8 Link Quality=57/70 Signal level=-40 dBm Noise level=-97 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:3564 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:151 Missed beacon:0 wifi0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"RedBetsy" Mode:Managed [03:16] xubuntu378: I'm surprised that all fit on one line. It's better to use a pastebin. [03:16] Sorry, didn't realize it was a link to click on. [03:17] Oh well. Let me see... [03:18] The part that concerns me is the last one where it says lo No wireless extension and Eth0 no wireless extension [03:18] Again, thank you [03:18] OK, try [ modprobe ath_pci rfkill=0 ] [03:18] You're welcome [03:19] You may need to sudo that. [03:20] FATAL: Module ath_pci not found. [03:20] oh ok one second [03:21] same error but this time it at least asked for password haha [03:21] Well, if it can't find the module the first time, becoming "root" won't make a difference. [03:22] :) [03:22] That's all sudo does. [03:22] OK, run [ lspci ] [03:22] yeah i know but it gave me false hope [03:24] Got one network controller from intersil and one from national semiconductor corporation [03:25] I do have a button on this laptop that turned the wireless on and off in windows but it isn't working now. Not sure if it would automatically be on in xubuntu [03:26] Yeah... I know MiniPCI cards have a radio switch... try using it. [03:26] Oh, it didn't work. [03:26] Are you trying to connect to a WPA2 network, by any chance? [03:27] no it didn't and i checked bios to see if i could set it on but no dice [03:27] Yes [03:28] any difference in connecting or does 11b not work for wpa2? [03:28] it should work i'm pretty sure [03:29] The driver for Agere MiniPCI cards for Ubuntu doesn't support WPA2, unfortunately. [03:29] It only supports WEP and WPA(1) (it's ancient) [03:30] You might Google for ndiswrapper and see if you can find a driver with that. [03:31] So it's a driver issue? Ok. Should i look into using a usb wireless or will it not make a difference? If i can ask, you're saying xubuntu is the issue or the driver? [03:32] A USB wireless (provided you can find a driver) should work. ndiswrapper probes to see if the Windows driver will work in Linux. [03:33] OK sounds like i'm going to have some fun hunting it down but at least i got great answers. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. Have a great night. [03:33] Yep! You're welcome, and welcome to Xubuntu! [03:34] Thanks. Looking forward to making this old beast of a computer a new friend. [03:35] The hard part is breaking the ice. :) [03:40] Hello, how can I make transparent the botton bar? [03:40] bottom [03:41] It's in Panel Preferences. [03:42] solid color? [03:42] red is enabled and I don't see any liek transparency [03:42] There's a slider marked "Alpha." Try adjusting that. [03:43] solved it [03:43] alpha was disabled [03:43] Beautiful. [03:43] needed to activate in the windows manager [03:43] Take note also that some features need the xfwm4 compositor enabled as well. [04:57] http://www.tittiesnbacon.com/ [05:02] Hi everyone.. I would like to stop internet traffic if I get disconnected from the VPN... I'm getting an error explained on the pastebin: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5709554/ what can I do to solve it? [06:11] Hello xubuntu people! [06:11] packetfrog, greetings [06:11] :> [06:36] Anyone home? [06:37] I'm having problems with gnome network-manager. Ubuntu 12.4 LTS running xubuntu-desktop. I did "sudo apt-get unistall network-manager", and just used ifup/ifdown, but now I'm in a place with an AP with a hidden ESSID, so I need to use network-manager. I tethered to my phone and did "sudo apt-get install network-manager" (which also installed network-manager-gnome). [06:37] The network manager icon now shows up on my menubar, but I can't get it to show any wireless networks. If I do right-click/edit connections, the networks are all there, but I can't seem to get network-manager to show them to me in such a fashion that I can say "connect to that network".l [06:39] puff, why uninstall NM? Anyway, I'd suggest you apt-get purge- network manager then reinstall it. reboot and see it that fixes. [06:39] Wifi | puff see if these links help [06:39] *apt-get purge [06:40] cfhowlett: Ugh, then I lose the passwords for a doen networks... [06:40] well_laid_lawn: Which links? [06:40] !wifi [06:40] Wireless documentation, including how-to guides and troubleshooting information, can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs [06:40] Thanks. [06:40] ^^ those [06:41] cfhowlett: Why uninstall etc, is because NM was constantly causing problems, disconnecting/reconnecting. [06:41] cfhowlett: for a brief time I was just using ifup/ifdown and had /network/interfaces set up to invoke wpa_supplicant. WIFI was rock-solid. [06:43] puff, understood. Hey more people in #ubuntu. Might want to ask over there. [06:49] cfhowlett: Yah... [06:50] But usually not much help over there there :-). [06:50] cfhowlett: Did that paste on #ubuntu show up in its entirety, or was it truncated? [06:53] puff, paste? did not see [07:11] Anybody know where networm-manager keeps network names, passwords, etc? [07:18] /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ [07:38] SunStar: Thanks. === Makdaam_ is now known as Makdaan === Makdaan is now known as Makdaam [09:21] Hello, I am new to linux, and have an old laptop that I would like to install xubuntu [09:22] does anyone have any advice for choice of installation [09:22] since it only has 1.73ghz, 504mb ... I think that the alternative installation cd for xubuntu [09:23] but i can not find the alternative installation cd for xubuntu?? [09:24] xubuntu572: there is no alternate cd for 12.10, only for 12.04 [09:25] okay, but where can I find it? [09:26] well you could try to install with the minimal image [09:26] afaik that still uses alternate, someone correct me if I'm wrong [09:26] http://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/ [09:26] or should I try the usual? [09:28] xubuntu572, not enough room for xubuntu ... [09:29] I found the alternative (4.12). so I test with it.. Thanks :) [09:29] xubuntu572, I think damn small linux or perhaps puppy linux might be better suited [09:30] since I'm a beginner on linux so I want have a package manager that has is gui [09:31] xubuntu572, ok, .... but 500 megs? pretty restrictive ... [09:32] do you know if damn small linux or puppy have package manager with gui [09:32] yes it is a old old one [09:32] xubuntu572, so, no idea [09:34] many thanks anyway, now i have the alt. cd so I test with it :) [09:35] xubuntu572, best of luck [09:35] to work ... thanks [10:04] hello! [10:04] i am googling for a while and had like 5 reboots and i am still unable to change /etc/hostname to a different one [10:04] insanehits, greetings [10:04] how can i do this without GUI? something rewrites it to 'ubuntu' [10:05] i was trying the networkmanager config aswell [10:05] what am i doing wrong? [10:05] insanehits, bring this to #ubuntu much more active channel [10:05] i put hostname=foobar under [keyfile] in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf [10:06] well in ubuntu i just edit the /etc/hosts /etc/hostname and it's done [10:12] insanehits: the latter is how it should work in xubuntu too [10:19] Myrtti: but something reset to ubuntu both /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts [10:19] anyways i will try from the gui maybe that helps [12:22] Hello everybody! [12:22] hi [12:23] I have just changed my video card and I am having some issues. Please, is there any good soul that wishes do do some good action in order to go straight to heaven? [12:24] My name is Rogério, by the way. Sorry I am not using my real name. [12:34] xubuntu688, TMI. user name is fine [12:34] don't think there's any (written) rule that you should use your own name, on the contrary even ;) [12:53] Here I am again. [12:53] It's really odd. If I log in as guest user, everything runs just fine. But when I log with my normal user, the screen freezes... [12:55] Rogerio, probably something wrong with your config [12:56] Surely. I have just changed my video card. [12:57] Right now I am using the live CD. [12:58] If there was a way to "reset" the video configurations to the default I think that this would do the magic... [12:58] Rogerio, if running a guest session works, then you could obliterate the contents of ~/.config ? [12:58] Rogerio, if your guest session works then the video settings work [12:59] Rogerio, if you want to try that aproach however just delete the /ext/X11/xorg.conf file and it will reset to default [13:00] This is the odd of the odd. When I boot from HD and I choose the guest user, everything runs fine. But when I use my normal user, the screen freezes. I guess it is because I used to run with two monitors... [13:00] nah [13:00] unless you have a autorun xrandr script? [13:01] Yes, that's the case. [13:05] Is there a way to have the necessary permissions in order to chage thins in the system disc with the default user in Live CD? [13:08] GridCube, thanks for the help. [13:08] Rogerio, i dont know where the xfce autorun are stored [13:09] oh, apparently its ~/.config/autostart [13:09] :P [13:10] Rogerio, i would guess that navigating to that folder and deleting the xrandr script should do the trick [13:11] GridCube, thank you very much. I'll leave now, reboot and start via emergency mode as root. [13:13] Rogerio, no need for that [13:13] just use guest and use sudo [13:31] when my battery gets critical my session gets logged out. Is it possible to disable it? [13:31] baizon, see your power settings ... or plug in [13:36] nope, no conf possibility to set it [13:45] baizon, yes, there is [13:46] GridCube: any ideas where / how ? [13:53] baizon, http://imagebin.org/254117 go to power settings, go to "with battery" the firs option its "when charge its critical" [13:53] hmm [13:53] ok i didnt had that option [13:54] because no battery present :> [13:54] thanks [13:54] silly baizon [13:54] indeed :D [14:15] hi [14:15] Yo [14:15] sup dawg? [14:15] all good, u? [14:15] !u [14:15] U is the 21st letter of the modern latin alphabet. Neither 'U' nor 'Ur' are words in the English language. Neither are 'R', 'Y', 'l8', 'ryt', 'Ne1' nor 'Bcuz'. Mangled English is hard for non-native English speakers. Please see http://geekosophical.net/random/abbreviations/ for more information. [14:16] !good [14:16] Usually, there is no single "best" application to perform a given task. It's up to you to choose, depending on your preferences, features you require, and other factors. [14:17] !superExtremeAwesomeness [14:17] aww [14:17] !gay [14:17] that's nice, did you actually have a support question? [14:17] instead of playing with the bot? [14:18] :D [14:18] (I was kind of hoping. "Yo" is my usual greeting.) [14:18] Me too [14:19] I use "sup daawg?" [14:19] ... that you had a support question. [14:19] no! I want to say hello to you guys [14:20] :) thats very nice guys, but please could you keep random chatting to #xubuntu-offtopic [14:20] :) [14:20] okej [14:53] ` [15:22] hi all [15:22] всем привет [15:25] !ru [15:25] Пожалуйста наберите /join #ubuntu-ru для получения помощи на русском языке. | Pozhalujsta naberite /join #ubuntu-ru dlya polucheniya pomoshi na russkom yazyke. [15:27] GridCube: hes already gone :) [15:27] oh [15:27] i have part/join hidden [15:59] Hello all. I'm attempting to run Xubuntu 12.10 over vnc4server; and when connection via VNC Many menu-icons are grey/empty icons. Both in the pager, and in the xfce-menu. Is there a known solution? [16:00] Using Settings -> Appearance -> Icons ; and changing icon themes has zero effect. Also, one google search suggested Tango icon theme, also no effect. [16:03] The window decorations also look quite minimal. as well as the pager bar. When I log into the actual system console . all is well. [17:33] you could try next with acpi=off [17:33] maybe both? [17:33] okay [17:33] dunno [17:33] same place [17:33] i would let ti go trhough tho, wait a while to see if it boots with nomodeset [17:34] okay [17:34] anti_, yes, acpi=off should go to the same place [17:34] with nonodeset [17:35] one after the other with spaces separating them [17:35] the order is irrelevant [17:35] okay [17:35] so [17:36] GridCube I sucvcessfully booted xubuntu from my pe3ndrive as a live cd on my windows pc with an internet connection cool [17:36] quiet splash nonodeset acpi=off [17:36] anti_, sure try that [17:36] Aiena, get the live session running, on a cd/usb/anything, open synaptic, if its not there install it from the ubuntu software center, then update and find the packages you want to intall, for exampple krita, then go to >File >generate package download script. that will generate a downloader script [17:37] Aiena, run that script from a terminal ./nameofthescript [17:37] synaptic is intalled fortunately [17:38] GridCube, I am running it from the machine using an internet connection [17:38] and I have a persistent usb stick [17:38] yes, i read you already :) [17:38] so I can install linux directly right [17:38] okay i will leave it alittle bit see if it boots [17:38] sure, i guess, i've never done that tho [17:38] onto the persistent bit of stick [17:38] anti_, good luck [17:39] Aiena, sure, i would guess so, yes [17:39] i dont see why not [17:39] ok so i marked krita for installation on synaptics [17:39] then [17:39] now go to file, save download script [17:40] if I click apply will it install krita onto the live usb ? [17:40] it will ask you for a place to save the script, i suggest creating a folder named offline-krita [17:40] and saving the script there [17:40] Aiena, yes, [17:40] but you dont want that now [17:40] hmm if it installs to the persistant portion of the usb stick [17:41] you are in a live session yet [17:41] then the persistent portion will load onto the other machine too right [17:41] how do i know where is synaptics installing the files ? [17:41] the files are going to be there [17:41] you are creating a script, wherever you place the script is whereever the installer files will go [17:42] ok lets rewind a bit [17:42] okay no boot after 5 mins [17:42] you are not "installing" if you are downloading the files [17:42] in synaptcs [17:42] *synapitcics I have chosen krita [17:42] you are just downloading the .deb files to install it later on an offline machine [17:42] anti_, :( too bad [17:42] ok [17:43] GridCube, File-> generate package download script [17:43] ummm is there anythink else i can do to get it to work [17:43] sorry bro i dont know how else to help you, you might have to wait for someone smarter or ask on #grub [17:43] os that the next step [17:43] okai but thx anyway [17:44] *is that the next... [17:44] does grub have irc [17:44] Aiena, yes, save the script to a folder, the persistent folder ofcourse, so when you unplug the usb it stills there [17:44] anti_, yes, #grub [17:45] anti_, you paste them the boot-repair link too http://paste.ubuntu.com/5710893 [17:45] okayy [17:45] :) [17:45] good luck [17:46] Aiena, once you have the script saved to the destiny folder open a terminal [17:46] GridCube, the odd thing is that it failed to load the 1 gb partition [17:46] though it is listed [17:46] :( [17:47] should I reboot [17:47] no [17:47] there should be the windows partition in the desktop [17:47] What is the issue [17:47] save the files there [17:47] yes the windows partition is there [17:47] Aiena, i dont know [17:47] and d: drive is there [17:47] maybe the non windows partition is safer [17:47] Aiena, keep in mind that you are downloading the equivalent to windows "setup.exe" files [17:48] so i doesnt matter where they are, you are going to use them to install later [17:48] OK thanks :) [17:49] how can i get to there irc [17:50] GridCube, it geberated the script [17:50] and I have saved it in the d: drive [17:50] anti_, /join #grub [17:51] Aiena, good, it would be better if you move it to a folder to have control of what its there and should be there [17:51] is tht what i have to type in the chat box [17:51] like i said make a folder named "krita" [17:51] anti_, yes [17:51] anti_, yes [17:52] or "/j #grub" [17:52] without the quotes [17:52] GridCube, I am in a folder called " xubuntu apps" with just the script in it [17:53] :) [17:53] so i create a floder called krita inside it [17:53] and should i move the script insde there [17:53] perfect. now right click on an empty space in that folder and choose "open terminal here" [17:53] if you want the files to download tehre, yes [17:53] the files will download to what ever dir the script its at [17:53] GridCube, the script has to be moved into the krita folder right [17:54] if you want the files to download tehre, yes [17:54] ok chosen open terminal here [17:54] the files will download to what ever dir the script its at [17:54] ok thanks [17:54] I want it there [17:54] I have opened the terminal [17:54] Aiena, so now you type ./nameofthescript [17:55] ok any script extension [17:55] if you gave it one [17:55] ok I did not [17:55] you could have named it .sh, but thats just a convention [17:55] its says ./krita permission denied [17:55] do sudo ./krita [17:55] krita is the name of the script [17:56] yes, i figured that :) [17:56] so ehrn i ran [17:56] is it not in admin [17:56] what? [17:56] why is it saying permission denied [17:56] bash: ./krita: Permission denied [17:57] error is appearing [17:57] with sudo? [17:57] no sudi [17:57] sudo ./krita [17:57] *sudo [17:57] ok will try [17:58] :) its working? [17:58] sudo: ./krita.sh: command not found [17:58] very weird [17:58] the script is called krita.sh [17:58] i renamed it [17:58] sudo [17:59] what... [17:59] :/ [17:59] Aiena: You are cd'd to the directory it's in right? [17:59] I opened the terminal in that directory [17:59] with the scroipt [17:59] he opened the terminal on that dir from thunar [17:59] does it matter if it is running live [17:59] instead of installed [17:59] no [17:59] it should not [17:59] Aiena, do a ls [18:00] ls [18:00] and see if the krita.sh its there [18:00] listed krita.sh [18:00] try using sh krita.sh [18:00] ok do chmod +x krita.sh [18:01] i typed " chmod +x krita.sh" it executed the command successfully but quietly [18:01] opening another terminal line [18:02] i typed "chmod +x krita.sh" it executed the command successfully but quietly [18:02] "chmod +x krita.sh" [18:02] how many times did you chmod it? [18:02] then [18:03] one time only [18:03] well_laid_lawn, [18:03] k [18:03] ;) [18:03] so now the shell reads like this [18:03] xubuntu@xubuntu:/media/Data/xubuntu apps/Krita$ chmod +x krita.sh [18:03] xubuntu@xubuntu:/media/Data/xubuntu apps/Krita$ [18:03] yes [18:03] now run ./krita.sh [18:04] what does chmod do ? [18:04] xubuntu@xubuntu:/media/Data/xubuntu apps/Krita$ ./krita.sh [18:04] change the mode of the file, in this case you give it x that its eXecutable [18:04] bash: ./krita.sh: Permission denied [18:04] frell [18:05] why its failing... [18:05] try this move the script to a livecd folder, to the desktop for example [18:05] ok [18:05] and run it from there [18:06] ok after chmodding the file on desktop it is running [18:07] :) [18:07] great :D [18:07] and downloading a truckload of stuff [18:07] yes, krita should pull like 1/3 of kde [18:07] hence creating a messy desktop [18:07] but no issues [18:08] Aiena, thats irrelevant XD the directory its just ~/Desktop so you will be fine [18:08] theres no awnser in #grub [18:08] GridCube, do you think stuff kept on the desktop will be persistent >? [18:08] :D when it ends copy the files to other media Aiena [18:08] no [18:08] ok [18:09] its a live session, this will go away on a reboot, save the files to a persistent dir, maybe the script didnt work, but a copy paste should [18:09] GridCube, once I have safely copied all the files into a location on my hardisk [18:09] anti_, sorry :( [18:09] can i trial krita from my live distro ? [18:09] its okay [18:09] sure, why not [18:09] Aiena, after saving the files you can try using them to install krita itself [18:10] and not redownloading the files :P [18:10] I will but one step at a time [18:10] I am totally new to linux as a whole [18:10] :) you are doing well [18:10] so don;t want to go too forward and forget stuff [18:10] I am used to the commandf line in windows but linux has a different system [18:11] what do I do if my destop is overflooded with files [18:11] in this case its overrun the desktop space [18:11] should have put the krita.sh in a folder in the desktop [18:14] GridCube, found a solution [18:14] no wirries :P [18:14] *worries [18:14] :) [18:14] GridCube, is there anyway of knowing how much space a program in linux will take prior to downloading it ? [18:15] apt-cache showpkg progam [18:16] hmm how does that work and where to use it ? [18:17] Aiena, terminal, type it [18:17] one sec let it finish downloading krita [18:17] its pretty cool :) [18:17] but thats not it, it would just show you the package and its dependecies, [18:17] Aiena, that wont mix with the download tho [18:18] ok opened another terminal window [18:18] well i found a way [18:18] type sudo apt-get install krita [18:18] yup it showed the dependencies [18:18] and it will tell you, and ask you if you want to install, say no [18:19] now its downloading a big deb fiel which is the main krita installer I think [18:20] ok it failed because the other terminal was busy downloading krita [18:20] oh? [18:21] GridCube, Ok [18:22] downloaded fully [18:22] now will uae your command in terminal [18:22] ubuntu@xubuntu:~/Desktop$ sudo apt-get install krita [18:22] E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) [18:22] E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it? [18:22] anyways [18:22] ok [18:23] GridCube, now that I have all the krita files [18:23] in a directory [18:23] on my main hard disk [18:23] what do I do [18:23] Aiena, oh, no, it failed because you had synaptic open, not because it was downloading files P: [18:23] Aiena, well now you can do this, [18:24] GridCube, should I close synaptics ? [18:24] no [18:24] ok [18:24] what is the next step ? [18:24] to test krita on the livecd [18:25] on synaptic go to >File >"load downloaded packages" or however it says in english [18:25] ok [18:25] now I selected the directory in which all the krita debs are stored [18:25] good [18:26] then [18:26] select open [18:26] ok now its asking to apply the following changes [18:27] "synaptics" is asking [18:27] yes [18:27] you should apply [18:27] ok applying [18:27] hmm weird [18:27] its is again dowloading the package files [18:27] it is? [18:27] yes [18:27] or its just installing? [18:27] weird [18:28] maybe its "fake downloading" form the source dir to the /tmp/ install dir? [18:28] i dunno [18:28] maybe [18:28] but it does not look like it [18:28] mmm [18:28] because download speeds are network rate [18:29] when it is only 81 mb [18:29] i dont know, at least you have the files and in the worst case you can install them manually [18:29] yes [18:29] well see [18:29] :) good lucks [18:29] i have to go now [18:29] ok thank you [18:29] GridCube, [18:29] :) [18:30] Does anybody know why icons are missing in Menu, and Thunar when using VNC in XFCE/Xubuntu ? [18:30] maybe you dont have permissions to read the icons directory? [18:31] GridCube, its is actually downloading :P [18:31] lol [18:31] ron-slc: i suggest using x11vnc, no problems at all using x11vnc as the server [18:31] anyways [18:31] Well when logging in to terminal icons are all there and fine. But when connecting to system with VNC 90% look blank. [18:31] Koegs: Hmm i'll give that a shot [18:34] hi guys i still have that problem and seems that its not a grub problem so im asking if anyone has any new idea on how to fix this [18:35] koegs: well! Much improved! Is vnc4server now out of maintenance and broken or something? [18:36] anti__, hi, you forgott to pastebin what I asked you to pastebin [18:36] sorry [18:36] ron-slc: i dont know, never used it [18:37] like *Stopping system v initialisation compatibility [18:37] and such [18:37] what was imeant to pastebin [18:37] sorry [18:37] all the black screen content [18:37] brb [18:37] specially the end of it [18:38] brb just doing tea then i will give all details [18:49] okay guys i press esc while booting xubuntu and got a black screen with text movin down the screen nowit stopped after saned disabled ; edit ect/default/saned [18:51] but before that line i got stopping sysem v initialisation compatibility [18:52] is there anyone willing to help with this problem [18:54] I don't know well xubuntu but you could give more lines maybe [18:55] or maybe someone could suggest how to enable verbose mode in upstart? [18:57] ill take a picture and uploadit for youguys [19:32] hey guys im reinstalling xunbutu right now is it normal for the "restoreing oldpackeages" bit to take ages? [20:03] Does Ubuntu Studio follow the LTS plan for Xubuntu, or does it have its own LTS plan? [20:03] Also, is there a plan to reinstate the messaging menu in Xubuntu? [20:04] xubuntu142: Depends. [20:04] !ping [20:04] pong! [20:12] Hello? === max is now known as Guest79173 [20:19] SonikkuAmerica: a f a i k, Ubuntu Studio is a Ubuntu derivative, not specifically an Xubuntu derivative. [20:20] OK [20:20] Since 11.04 it uses XFCE and GTK+ apps much like Xubuntu does, however [20:22] SonikkuAmerica: http://ubuntustudio.org/tour/ says there is a LTS every 2nd year, so I guess it's the same as for Ubuntu [20:22] Probably a good guess then. [20:39] So does that mean 15.04 is the next Xubuntu LTS? [20:48] hi guys i can n0w log in but about5 mins after being logged in my pc freezes is there any fix for this [21:06] Am I the only one who says "khubuntu" [21:08] hi guys [21:08] Hi [21:18] Peyam: Probably... I say "eck-soo-boon-too" [21:18] because "khubuntu" sounds like Kubuntu [21:18] no [21:19] zoobuntu [21:20] yes [21:20] I used to say khubuntu [21:20] kh like in julio 'mexixan jjjj" [21:22] I belive x in the beginning of a word is pronounced different in different cultures and language traditions. [21:22] David-A: yes [21:23] I pronounce x lije in 'skellefteå' or like in 'skärholmen' [21:23] like* [21:23] I would say there is no wrong way (until I saw Peyam's "Me[sch]ico" analogy) :) [21:23] (y) [21:26] hey ppl...i'm trying to setup a microserver running xubuntu. it appears that the OS fails to boot when there is no monitor connected [21:27] i think i've found a solution [21:29] I say xubuntu as 'x-ubuntu' [21:29] is it supposed to be zoobuntu? [21:30] yes it is zobonto [21:30] oh noes [21:30] gotta fix what I say then [21:34] Per vedere questa pagina assicurati di avere Adobe Flash Player alla versione 11.3 o superiore installato. come risolvo??? [21:36] xubuntu779: adobe flash > 11.2 is not supported for all linux browsers. You have to use google chrome (sadly). [21:39] thank you, but the first attempt went off all (Massimo) [21:42] For flash in xubuntu which version do we install ? [21:42] the ubuntu 10.4 version ? [21:44] flash? [21:44] flash player? [21:45] peyam yup flash player [21:48] aiena: the package "flashplugin-installer" in software center and synaptic should install the latest available flash player. [21:51] thanks [21:51] Bye [21:51] cya [21:53] hi guys i have a problem [21:54] E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13: Permission denied) E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/ E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root? [21:55] yes i get the same [21:55] its when i try to install an tool [21:56] Sowhioch command do you run exactly? [21:56] *So which [21:57] sudo apt-get -f -y install && apt-get -y install m4 automake autoconf make gcc libtool [21:57] there is sudo missing before the second apt-get [21:57] oh damn thanks [21:59] well that fied my problem lol [21:59] ive managed to get xubuntu to work on my pc [22:00] could you help me with this problem [22:01] ./start.sh: line 9: php: command not found [22:01] You have to install the php cli :) [22:01] no [22:01] Yes [22:02] Without installing the php cli you cant run the php cli. [22:02] i need to install php cli [22:02] so whats the package name [22:03] cause i can do it this way cant i sudo apt-get install phpcli [22:03] php5-cli is the package name. [23:49] Hello [23:50] I'm using Xubuntu 12.04.2. I have removed the panel/dock located at the bottom of the screen. Now I'll like to move the panel (at the top of the screen) to the bottom... How can I do so? [23:50] I want the top panel to appear at the bottom of the screen. [23:52] right click on the panel, go to "panel" or "panel preferences" from there you can change options [23:52] you may need to unlock it to turn on grab handles so you can drag it to the bottom [23:56] hi there [23:57] setting - two finger scrolling (for my touch pad) waqs enabled by me [23:57] but how can i disable - scrolling with one finger&? [23:59] Thanks a lot, Cheri703! [23:59] sure!
