[00:02] tmkt: install libavformat-extra-53 [00:21] yeah [00:21] have that [00:22] ending up modifying the config to use handbrake [00:51] ubuntuaddicted: Can you successfully run a command in a terminal such as "sudo ls"? [00:52] The reason I ask is that I once modified /etc/sudoers.d/mythtv and made a syntax error. After that sudo failed to work. [00:55] To fix it I had to boot from a live CD, mount the root file system, and then fix my mistake in /etc/sudoers.d/mythtv. [01:00] i've never messed with /etc/sudoers so that's not the issue [01:01] it has to be something with the way mythbuntu was installed. I first installed ubuntu 12.04 minimal, then installed mythbuntu-desktop [01:02] i could sudo -i just fine. the problem was that the dialog was asking for the root password which there was never one made so it failed. [01:19] Is there a reason you started with ubuntu 12.04 minimal, instead of using the mythbuntu 12.04 distro? [01:25] gedakc, i was trying to save on overhead as this is a really old machine. Dell Dimension 8200 with only 256MB RAM [01:25] gedakc, not sure if I achieved what I wanted since I just install mythbuntu-desktop after all anyway [01:25] gedakc, once I get everything working again I will make it so the machine doesn't boot into any window manager, just command line and I admin it over ssh or thru tty1 [01:26] it's my main mythtv backend [01:27] Ah, I see. That's not a lot of RAM to run a GUI, though at least mythbuntu uses xfce4 which is comparatively light on resources. [01:28] gedakc, yeah, I don't need the GUI since it's just a backend [01:30] Can the backend be configured without a GUI? I've always used the GUI so I'm unaware of if there are other alternatives. [01:32] im using a GUI to configure the backend but after it's all setup I will make it so that it only boots to a command line and no window-manager [01:33] gedakc, you have to have X installed and you can forward the X-server over SSH if you wanted to [01:43] ubuntuaddicted: You might try setting a root password to see if that works. [01:45] I think you would use something like "sudo passwd root" to do that. [01:45] Please note that I am not recommending you do that. It's just something you might consider. [01:47] that's what the end solution was, yes [01:47] gedakc, i don't know if that was the intended result with his script but it is what it is [01:47] i can't change those scripts, well I could if I understand all that but I don't [01:48] tmkt: care to email me the handbrake config you are using? [01:49] Sometimes you just want to get it working. I know that feeling. I recently upgraded from Mythbuntu 11.04 to 12.04 and discovered some new problems to work around. [01:59] crap, it just failed at upgrading the database schema. here's the log: http://pastebin.com/s6UXnqRa [02:49] rhpot1991: sure [02:49] just changed the system line to this [02:49] system("HandBrakeCLI -i \'$self->{_inputFile}\' -o \'$self->{_outputFile}$self->{_extension}\' --preset iPad") [02:49] going to work on making the output filename a little prettier tomorrow though [02:50] WKBW-HD-Modern_Family-Bad_Hair_Day-20130221020000.m4v probably just down to Modern_Family-Bad_Hair_Day.m4v [02:55] most annoying thing so far for me with mythbuntu is my remote - i get it working..the next upgrade breaks it [02:56] finally just gave up and use my iphone as my remote === yuki-onna_ is now known as yuki-onna [13:03] looks like i need to change that a bit..its generating 6 channel audio [13:03] i think stereo should be plenty [13:18] DaveInTO: -ac 2 I think [13:24] yeah..was using iPad preset [13:24] so looks like i'll have to do my own handbrake command line [13:28] DaveInTO: can try pulling the latest config from here [13:28] no clue why my avconv doesn't have faac compiled in it [13:28] joined #ubuntu-mythtv [13:28] grrr [13:29] http://www.baablogic.net/mythexport/ [13:29] rhpot1991: i switched from avconv to handbrake [13:29] are you missing faac? [13:29] yeah..tmkt up above was me just at home [13:29] ah ok [13:29] ya you need medibuntu to fix that normally [13:30] didn't help? [13:30] yeah.i have medibuntu [13:30] no go [13:30] did a sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade? [13:30] yup [13:30] hmmm I'll poke at it and let you know whats up [13:31] did a purge of libav-tools [13:31] and reinstalled that [13:31] re remote, are you customizing configs? [13:31] and still no go [13:31] and brb tea [13:38] back [13:39] so...if i fail with avconv..probably going to stick with handbrake [13:42] avconv worked before, mediabuntu might be behind in version numbers now or something [13:43] I'll ping you later after I get a chance to look at it [13:43] but your remote, I might be able to help with that some [13:45] ok [13:48] hvr-1600 [13:48] every time there is an upgrade i have to make a bunch of changes grey remote... [13:48] i've given up and just use the iphone or the keyboard connected to the box [13:55] DaveInTO: check /etc/lirc [13:55] see if the .old files contain your changes [14:03] yeah..i get it working..but then the keys aren't all mapped the same as before...like left/right/up/down will work..nmbers will work but play and pause aren't working [14:03] so just a matter of creating a good file i guess [14:25] chris and jerry - no answers [14:25] nm - please ignore === jpabq__ is now known as jpabq === jpabq is now known as jpabq_ === jpabq_ is now known as jpabq
