=== SonikkuAmerica1 is now known as SonikkuAmerica === ubuntu-studio is now known as len-live [05:08] hi. good day. i have ubuntu studio 13.04 beta on a Toshiba Satellite P870. with Jack, I get xruns at anything less than 256 frames/period (Sample Rate: 48000, Periods/Buffer: 3). Its a decently-specified machine (i7, 16Gb RAM, 1Tb HD, etc), bought two weeks go. But I'm getting better performance from less well-specified, older machines. Any suggestions appreciated. [08:31] All I can is ... OMG http://moebuntu.web.fc2.com/moestudio_eng.html [15:50] LOL [15:51] ? [15:51] laughing at the link posted by cw [15:51] cf* [15:51] OK [15:51] hi [15:52] Hello ayc. [15:52] hello smart... please, help me with this [15:52] i cant see hardware configuration tool [15:52] ayc: what are you trying to configure? [15:53] ayc: Which tool? [15:53] * smartboyhw_ embraces our support guru holstein:) [15:53] i want to see which drivers i have installed... and to configure my sound card [15:53] ayc: you shouldnt need to configure your sound card, or much of aything [15:53] anything* [15:54] i havent sound [15:54] ayc: typically, if things can be supported, they are supported "out of the box" [15:54] !audio [15:54] If you're having problems with sound, click the Volume applet, then Sound Preferences, and check your Volume, Hardware, Input, and Output settings. If that fails, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sound - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting - http://alsa.opensrc.org/DmixPlugin - For playing audio files, see !players and !mp3. [15:54] i have m.audio fast track usb [15:54] ayc: what would i do? disable the onboard audio device (if any) then the only audio device will be the fast track [15:55] i would use pavucontrol to control the device with pulse [15:55] !proaudio [15:55] For information on professional audio tools in Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/ProAudioIntro [15:55] i have to disable it from bios? [15:55] ^^ i would refer to that if i wanted to set the fast track up to be used with JACK [15:55] ayc: i suggest that.. you dont have to [15:56] ayc: i suggest that because it will make things easier for you.. having only one audio device to work with [15:56] ok [15:56] i will try [15:56] but, in ubuntu studio, i can't have the "hardware configuration tool" linke in ubuntu? [15:57] ayc: What tool specifically!? [15:57] ayc: sure.. what tool are you looking for? also, keep in mind, ubuntustudio is for creating content, so our tools are geared to that [15:58] holstein: Will you be sure on 25/4 around 14:30- 17:00 UTC [15:58] ? [15:58] In this channel [15:59] ok, but is a place to view any drivers that i have installed? (for example, i use RAID, high current USB 3.0, drawing pad) [15:59] i dont know if im using my usb with all their capabilities... [15:59] ayc: there are many tools and places.. what are you looking for? [15:59] ayc: as i said, if things can be supported, they usually are [16:00] ayc: ubuntustudio *is* ubuntu.. so that means, any tool you want is available... also, the hardware support is the same [16:01] ayc: when i open a terminal and run "lspci -vv" i get all the information i need.. is that what you are looking for? [16:01] ok, but in a lot of webs, talks about "hardware configuration tool", in System / preferences menu [16:01] wait, i will try [16:01] ayc: what tool.. share a link and i'll help you find it [16:01] ayc: as i said, there are many tools for configuring [16:04] it was good... is there an app that shows me the same info, by graphically? [16:05] ayc: there are many.. what are you looking for? [16:06] an application to see and configure all "lspci" shows, and more [16:06] all "hardware" relative information [16:06] ayc: you can always open the package manager of your choice and search for system info tools.. as i said, there are many [16:08] soyy, im using a spanish version.... where are the package manager? [16:08] ayc: there are a few of those as well.. i like synaptic but i usually use the command line [16:09] ah, ok... now i know what are u talking about [16:09] thanks a lot!! [16:09] ayc: anytime.. also check #opensourcemusicians ...several of those audio devices there === smartboyhw_ is now known as smartboyhw [16:12] thanks again holstein!!! [16:12] last [16:13] i have downloaded some apps [16:13] downloaded? [16:13] that arent in package [16:13] ayc: from where? and why? [16:13] for example, OppenOffice [16:13] ayc: you want libreoffice.. its in the repos [16:13] sudo apt-get install libreoffice [16:14] !info libreoffice [16:14] libreoffice (source: libreoffice): office productivity suite (metapackage). In component universe, is optional. Version 1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu4 (quantal), package size 29 kB, installed size 166 kB [16:14] libreoffice <> openoffice [16:14] ayc: libreoffice is the modern fork of openoffice.. you dont need to download it.. you just use a package manager and install libreoffice [16:16] ayc: for the most part, you want to install from the repos.. you shouldnt need to download anything from anywhere else [16:16] i come from W, and some terms arent familiar for me... when i put "sudo apt-get install libreoffice"... from where "comes" the "libreoffice"??? [16:16] where is the repository? [16:16] ayc: the official ubuntu repositories [16:17] ayc: the place where your upgrades come from.. where all the packages are stored, and maintained for you [16:17] ok, synaptic or gdebi? [16:17] these are the rep? [16:17] ayc: doesnt matter.. those are package managers [16:18] ayc: synaptic allows you to install from your sources [16:18] ayc: Why do you prefer OpenOffice over LibreOffice? [16:18] i don't only want to know how to do the things, i want to know how the linux works too [16:18] for example, to over simplify the process.. when a new firefox comes out for example, the ubuntu team would package it and put it in the official repos.. you upgrade and it comes in automaticallly.. and its been tested to work [16:19] ayc: the "linux" is just the kernel [16:19] there are a lot of things to learn!!! [16:19] heheh.... [16:19] i have to go, thanks a lot to all of you, [16:19] smartboyhw_: i dont think ayc prefers it.. i think ayc was unaware that libreoffice was the lates version [16:19] ayc: Sure it takes a new user years to learn Linux:) [16:19] holstein: :( [16:20] latest* [16:20] its not clear that libreoffice is the latest version, really [16:20] :O [16:20] bye! [16:20] bye ayc;) === DarkEra2 is now known as DarkEra [17:01] Good evening [18:25] hi everyone [18:33] Hey, thebishop o.o [18:46] i'm getting back into linux audio after a few months off. are there any hot new projects i should try? i'm especially interested in options for recording with loops (already have sooperlooper) [18:49] thebishop: sooperlooper is arguably the best, and probably most actively developed [18:49] holstein, yeah, it's a great piece of software, but i've had mixed results running it with a synchronized tempo [18:50] in the past, it's worked well unless the tempo changed [18:50] sync it to an external source [18:50] yeah that's what i've done [18:50] if its not syncing, then, its not syncing [18:50] also, and this may just be a limitation of midi, but there doesn't seem to be a way to stop a loop by holding in a midi control [18:50] there wont be anything better at that [18:51] thebishop: you can map whatever you want to whatever you want in sooperlooper [18:51] i have to have a separate record/overdub, and pause assignment [18:51] midi, keyboard shortcuts.. you can stop, start.. whatever you like [18:51] holstein, i know, but there doesn't seem to be a concept of 'hold' [18:51] thebishop: what are you wanting to hold? [18:51] at least there wasn't 9 months ago [18:51] you can stop [18:51] holstein, i have a behringer FCB1010 footswitch [18:51] so, you map something to stop [18:52] i'd like to have tap to record/overdub, hold to stop [18:52] you can just hit a button, and stop [18:52] right [18:52] right... [18:52] using twice as many inputs [18:52] you can ask pipemanmusic in #opensourcemusicians [18:52] he just got that pedal [18:52] anyways.. im out for a bit [18:52] alright thanks man
