csgeekhey guys.01:03
csgeekI'm having some wifi issue with the latest Ubuntu release and I was wondering if anyone had some insight.  Well, to be accurate it's issues with the realtec drivers  rtl8192cu.  under 12.10 I had to compile the drivers from source... which is fine.  But with 13.04 It won't compile... seems to be some changes in the kernel headers maybe?01:22
bjsnidercsgeek, exact build error please01:33
csgeeksure... give me a sec to flip between usb thumb drive + internet enabled machine01:33

csgeekbjsnider: http://pastie.org/767780501:37
csgeeki was about to try their latest from trunk/HEAD off github... unless you have some other suggestions01:38
bjsnideris there newer driver code?01:40
bjsnideris that driver already in the kernel?01:40
csgeekno.. even in 12.10 I had to build it manually01:41
csgeekthe latest one I *believe* is:  https://github.com/dvdhrm/rt8192cu01:41
csgeekwhich still errors out..01:41
bjsniderwell, you might have to use an older kernel then01:42
bjsnideri would really recommend getting a nice usb wifi dongle that's well-supported01:42
csgeekI think I have a newer kernel01:43
bjsnideryes but you can install an older one and remove the newer one01:43
csgeekwell... this is a usb dongle.. but since my internal built one is giving me issues..and the usb one is doing the same... what would you recommend that IS recommended01:43
bjsniderlike a 3.5 kernel01:44
csgeekoh.. can I?01:44
bjsnideryeah just go to launchpad and look for the linux-image package01:44
bjsnideryou can grab one from quantal or earlier01:45
csgeekokay.  what a supported card that you know would work? any suggestions?01:46
csgeeksweet.. booted into the older kernel and that seems to work for now01:53
bjsnideri knew of a good one at one point but i forgot02:05

MonkeyDustwhat's Unity's equivalent of alacarte? I'm not able to use alacarte to set --disk-cache-dir=/tmp for chromium-browser11:08
Stanley00MonkeyDust: you can copy a "*desktop" in /usr/share/applications to your home and edit the exec line11:10
Stanley00MonkeyDust: copy the edited file to ~/.local/share/applications, and maybe you need log out.11:11
MonkeyDusti'll try11:11
Stanley00MonkeyDust: the desktop file for chromium is "chromium-browser.desktop" :D11:13
MonkeyDustno .desktop file there11:15
Stanley00dpkg-query: no packages found matching chromiun-browser11:16
Stanley00shadeslayer: 1: dpkg -L chromium-browser | grep -i desktop: not found11:16
Stanley00MonkeyDust: run "dpkg -L chromium-browser | grep -i desktop" and you will see that *desktop file11:17
MonkeyDustStanley00  ok, seems to have to done the trick, thanks11:21
Stanley00MonkeyDust: you are welcome ;)11:21
ua1Hello12:16

ua1Any Xubuntu users in here?12:18
ua1Not too surprised, although I love it myself. Bye for now :)12:18

admin_davfinally I solved it. Thanks to BluesKaj for support12:20
admin_davFor everybody if you have similar problem i solved with the reinstallation of lightdm. Bye12:22
BluesKajHey folks15:03
penguin42Hey BK15:03
[diablo]Good afternoon #ubuntu+!15:13
[diablo]guys, am I missing something or has the RC missed it's target date?15:13
penguin42as I read it the way it works has changed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReleaseCandidate15:19
penguin42'During the week leading up to the final release, the images produced are all considered release candidates'15:19
[diablo]ah ok thanks penguin4215:20
penguin42(wth does that page render with the kubuntu.org theme for me?)15:20
[diablo]the link u pasted me?15:20
penguin42nod15:20
[diablo]got the ubuntu theme here15:21
penguin42hmm15:22
SuperLagShould ~/Downloads be setgid?15:25
* penguin42 has never seen a ~/Downloads setgid15:27
maxbI can't think of a reason for that to make sense, unless the user was trying to do something unusual involving sharing the Downloads with other users on the system15:40
michagogoIs it safe to assume that on Thursday http://releases.ubuntu.com/13.04/ubuntu-13.04-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent and http://releases.ubuntu.com/13.04/ubuntu-13.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent will both go live at those URLs? Also, what time of day is the release planned for?15:42
SuperLagpenguin42: I saw it on my 13.04 VM. ~/Downloads was setgid, and the user:group was odd, as well.16:15
SuperLagon my native 13.04 installs, nothing like that16:17
penguin42I've not tried a fresh install for a while, so it's possible that it's on purpose - but odd; what are the user:group - I doubt it's the VMness16:17
SuperLag1012:src16:18
SuperLagprior to my changing it back to me:me16:18
SuperLagand I don't think it was hacked, because there's no way to reach that box from outside... it uses a NAT type connection16:19
penguin42that looks like an installer for something has gone nuts; have you deleted a user?16:19
SuperLagyes16:19
penguin42so that looks like the dir was once owned by that user for some reason16:20
SuperLagI had created a couple extra users, and deleted them16:20
penguin42(You don't need an inward connection to get hacked - e.g. installing a bad package or looking at a dodgy website that finds a way through will do it)16:20
SuperLagI don't mess with the dodgy websites. But a bad package... that seems more plausible. However, I work to avoid that, as well.16:21
SuperLagI guess if places like Skype and Teamviewer go rogue... then I'm screwed :)16:22
penguin42...or the connection that delivers them to you16:25
SuperLagit seems like if that's the case.... distrust should be your stance, in every case16:26
penguin42correct16:26
SuperLageven for stuff that you'd normally think reliable16:26
SuperLaglike stuff from your own work repo16:26
penguin42(OK, it's actually hard to live like that - but it is safest!)16:27
SuperLagi.e. *nothing* can be trusted16:27

amminiRe-posting from #ubuntu as its a 13.04 issue. Yesterday the upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04B got interrupted in between due to power failure. What are possible remedial measures for me to complete that upgrade? When I boot my machine now, its coming to grub prompt.17:00
