It contains all the best Audio/Visual components from the Ubuntu repositories. For more info and install instructions, join #ubuntustudio or see http://ubuntustudio.org [03:11] SonikkuAmerica: is that something in the topic? [03:11] Oh no, not at all. I just remember following Ubuntu Studio's progress during the Raring dev cycle and saw the roadmap was complete. [03:12] Long before all the other !flavors. [03:12] i bet smartboy or zequence or len-1304 knocked it out [03:13] I'd place my bet on zequence. Doesn't he kind of head the !studio project? [03:13] SonikkuAmerica: zequence is the ubuntustudio team lead [03:13] Thought so. [03:14] Congratulations for winning the "Fastest Ubuntu Development Team in Existence" award. [03:14] For Raring. [03:14] :) [03:15] I use the studio pointer packages on Unity... fun stuff really. [03:17] studio pointer? [03:18] you mean, you use the studio meta packages on main ubuntu? [03:28] Yeah. I call them pointers. (They "point" to the other packages.) [03:28] I think it's an old Solaris term. (OpenSolaris 2009.06 was my first taste of UNIX.( [03:28] ) [03:54] SonikkuAmerica: cool... should work welll with any of the variants [03:55] Unity is (almost) seamless. And especially with the Qt programs, as Unity Next will be written in Qt. [03:56] its probably where we are headed [03:57] Unity Next? [03:57] Or just Qt in general? [03:57] just QT in general [03:57] not sure what ubuntustudio will do [03:58] They've still got their bottoms planted in the "archaic, detoriorating chairs" of GTK+ [03:58] *deteriorating [03:59] well, it wasnt "deteriorating" when we went with XFCE [03:59] Well... to me it seems like GTK+ design is like playing a pipe organ... [03:59] Becoming somewhat of a lost art. [04:01] Not to mention the X.org X server... [04:01] sure, but back when we switched, it was the thing to do.. for short term longevity.. if there is such a thing [04:02] More like a sanity measure... although I liked Natty's Unity. [04:02] unity was new.. gnome3 was new... gnome2 was gone.. LXDE was just too different and sparse... KDE too heavy [04:02] e17? [04:02] Or e16 back then? [04:02] e17 wasnt "out" yet [04:03] though, i think it was too "different" [04:03] we went XFCE because it really seemed most like the old gnome2 [04:03] I think it plops on top of X nicely myself, and it's getting ported to Wayland, but... yeah, I have to agree, although you might consider MATE. [04:04] mate was new too [04:05] It's the GNOME 2 fork though... [04:05] sure [04:05] but, it was new, and buggy.. and bad back then [04:05] it wasnt available to us either [04:05] it has to be in the main ubuntu repos for us to use it.. and mate wasnt there, and still isnt AFAIK [04:06] Nope... [04:06] Shame it snot [04:06] *shame it snot [04:07] **SHAME IT'S NOT (ugh) [04:07] eh... XFCE fits the bill, mostly [04:07] its very gnome2 like [04:13] Heh, that's what people say, but I hated Gnome2 but Xfce is awesome. [04:13] Unit193: there were some little things about gnome2 that were annoying for sure [04:13] i dont think i really "liked" it either.. but i used it, and got used to it [04:14] gnome was never that great [13:51] congrats on 13.04! [13:51] will install (fresh) this week-end [13:51] wip: :) [13:51] enjoy. [13:57] until then i am streaming binaural beats (gnaural / pd gem) with u-s 12.04: http://www.justin.tv/11h11 [13:57] (and gstreamer) [13:57] wip, dammit. made me go look [13:58] cleaner interface is here: http://www.workinprogress.ca/epd/ [13:58] will eventually node.js it to control audio / video [13:59] watch out, i will control your brain and you will send me all your money at the end of the session [14:43] it was a joke eh, i don't want your money [14:45] wip: You can always send the money to me :P [14:45] lol [14:46] will do, just need to fine tuned the frequencies [14:46] muhahahaa :D [15:44] i am sure people are working on it, but the homepage of u-s is still pointing to beta: Try our latest Beta: Ubuntu Studio 13.04 Beta 2 [15:45] zequence, ^ [15:45] wip: What do you mean? [15:45] Ah, right. The front tab [15:45] yes [15:45] I'll change it right away [15:46] http://ubuntustudio.org/download/ looks correct though [15:46] yes [15:46] I changed the download page right after release, but I forgot about the front tab [15:50] Ok. That should work [15:51] looks good [16:03] someone experienced on focusrite? .... this case pro 10 I/O...?.... [16:13] iu5wtrt6y: I have sapphire pro 40. What kind of problem are you having? === benmoose is now known as SonikkuAmerica [16:19] I can make it work. I have ffado, jack, and ardour (from official with plugins and so...). [16:20] I can rec with the normal instalation of ardour... without plugins, but not with the "big one" [16:20] iu5wtrt6y: "big one"? [16:21] i mean the instalation from the official ardour site, with the pre-instalation of plugins, actualization... [16:22] iu5wtrt6y: I don't think Ardour from the ardour site contains any plugins. Those should be the same [16:23] iu5wtrt6y: But, if you're having problems recording with the official version of Ardour (the one from their site), then I recommend asking about it on #ardour [16:23] iu5wtrt6y: Just to be totally clear. Jack is working all the time, right? [16:30] yes, but don't show correc tly the names of devices. I tried choosing hw1 (shown in terminal as the focusrite) and ardour don't start up [16:31] iu5wtrt6y: i wouldnt trust those labels [16:31] just test, and discover what is what... [16:31] sorry...fw1, with driver firewire [16:32] -/dev/fw1 [16:32] iu5wtrt6y: you have to keep in mind what is happening there.. a driver that is *not* made by the manufacturer (or supported in any way) is doing what it can to provide you with support [16:32] iu5wtrt6y: when i use my firepod, i have only that device plugged in via firewire [16:32] iu5wtrt6y: Don't you use any jack control application, such as qjackctl? [16:33] i just select the firewire driver in qjackctl [16:33] iu5wtrt6y: It is best to start jack with a jack control application, like qjackct first. Then, start Ardour [16:34] iu5wtrt6y: If you are not able to start jack with ardour directly, that may be something worth mentioning on #ardour [16:35] iu5wtrt6y: But, if the issue is with a jack control application, and you are using only Ubuntu Studio (not additional PPAs), then we will gladly help [16:36] i understand, and i'm trying to solve all of this for many time, leave pro-tools, and work only with freesoft. Yes I use Qjackctl (even knowing is jackd who works there), but maybe the issue is on the instalation of ardour... Anyway, i have to leave. Being here just for try. Thanks a lot from Galicia. ;--) [16:37] iu5wtrt6y: Do come back again :) [16:39] ok ;-)
