=== smartboyhw__ is now known as smartboyhw
smartboyhwWhoa that's abrupt, Fuduntu decided to close down INMEDIATELY starting from two days earlier08:06
smartboyhwR.I.P GNOME 208:06
DarkEramorning08:42
smartboyhwHello DarkEra08:43
smartboyhwDarkEra: So Fuduntu Project completely ended two days ago:O08:43
DarkErai know08:43
DarkEra:)08:43
smartboyhwR.I.P. GNOME 2 and Fuduntu08:43
smartboyhwDarkEra: That's quite abrupt08:44
DarkErayep, because the majority of the users went on to other distro's08:44
DarkErafewt retired so he isn't in charge anymore from now on08:46
DarkEraFuSe will mostlikely use Consort DE from SolusOS, which isn't even out yet and under heavy development. Plus the fact it's just another Gnome 3 fork.... like Cinnamon08:47
smartboyhwDarkEra: Yeah08:48
DarkErasmartboyhw, but hey, i have found my way back home and i'm happy here ;)08:48
smartboyhwDarkEra: I don't understand why so many people liked GNOME 2 though08:48
smartboyhwDarkEra: \o/08:49
DarkEraWell, Gnome 2 has been one of the major DE's for many years, so people got used to it. When Gnome 3 and Unity came out some of the 'old guys' refused to work with that because they don't like the whole concept of Gnome 3 and Unity.08:51
DarkErato them these DE's are just touch/tablet interfaces08:52
DarkErathey want to use the mouse to point and click, not willing to learn to work with keyboard shortcuts etc08:54
DarkEradon't tell me i've been 'talking' for nothing now and you missed all of it smartboyhw_  lol08:55
DarkEradoh08:56
DarkEra:D08:56
smartboyhw_DarkEra: doh what?08:56
DarkEra<DarkEra> don't tell me i've been 'talking' for nothing now and you missed all of it smartboyhw_  lol08:56
smartboyhw_DarkEra: If people don't like Xfce or KDE or GNOME 3 or Cinnamon or MATE or Unity they should really change their art perspective08:57
smartboyhw_DarkEra: I'm sorry, but GNOME 2 is simply Windows XP…08:58
falktxsmartboyhw_: I think the issue is that, compared to gnome2, gnome3 kinda sucks08:59
falktxmaybe things are a bit better now, but older versions were not good...09:00
DarkErasmartboyhw_, i agree. What i don't understand is that Xfce almost looks and acts like Gnome 2, still the nay sayers refuse to use it. Even the Fuduntu team when i proposed it. If they had switched over to Xfce they could have used GTK3 and continue with the project09:00
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Yep09:01
smartboyhw_I mean, at least the others are more moderb09:01
smartboyhw_*modern09:01
smartboyhw_GNOME 2 is crap since it is too traditional09:01
smartboyhw_Tech evolves09:01
DarkErafalktx, just like with KDE 4 when it first came out Gnome 3 also has to evolve to a mature level09:02
smartboyhw_And people just can't accept new things09:02
DarkEratrue09:02
falktxit's hard to accept things when they are forced upon you09:03
falktxwhen you don't have a choice09:03
smartboyhw_falktx: One has the choice not to use GNOME09:03
falktxthey wanted gnome2, but it wasn't there anymore09:03
smartboyhw_So many GNOME 3 forks out there are good enough09:03
smartboyhw_KDE LXDE Xfce09:04
smartboyhw_Cinnamon MATE Unity09:04
DarkErathere seems to be a distro that ditches Gnome 3 and goes back to Gnome 2, i forgot which one it was09:05
DarkEraah, Calculate Linux09:05
DarkErahttp://news.softpedia.com/news/Calculate-Linux-13-4-Ditches-GNOME-3-in-favor-of-GNOME-2-347230.shtml09:06
DarkEraMATE is a Gnome 2 fork but they will get into trouble soon i guess09:07
smartboyhw_DarkEra: agreed09:08
DarkErabrb ----> kids09:10
DarkEraalso Cinnamon is running into trouble because they can't or couldn't keep it up making it compatible with gnome 3.6 and 3.8. Cinnarch switched to Gnome 3 because of that09:17
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Yep09:17
smartboyhw_GNOME is a complete mess09:17
DarkEraGnome just needs time09:18
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Fortunately when GNOME 2 died we switched to Xfce (thanks ScottL)09:19
DarkErai like it so far, especially the 3.8 release09:19
smartboyhw_DarkEra: :)09:19
DarkErasmartboyhw_, yep i know :)09:19
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Or rather: GNOME forks are a mess:P09:19
DarkErait's the best thing that he could have done. Xfce fits in well09:20
DarkErasmartboyhw_, yeah09:20
smartboyhw_DarkEra: heh there is some strange thing that some people didn't use Ubuntu Studio cause there is NO Unity09:21
DarkEraCinnamon is great for LMDE and the ubuntu based mint, but for a more true rolling release distro it's not09:21
DarkErasmartboyhw_, wah?09:21
DarkErareally?09:22
smartboyhw_DarkEra: https://plus.google.com/110039687189146809887/posts/AwHmECdkRsk (you left a comment also)09:23
DarkEralet me guess, that why Dream Studio has been created and is based on Ubuntu with the Unity desktop :)09:23
smartboyhw_That was the longest G+ comment I ever made09:23
smartboyhw_DarkEra: probably09:24
DarkEraah yes, that one09:24
smartboyhw_DarkEra: You know Dick Macinnis was once our Artwork Lead?09:24
DarkErai thought he only made one wallpaper, the one that is used on 12.04 and 12.1009:25
smartboyhw_DarkEra: dunno09:26
* smartboyhw_ doesn't know much before 12.0809:26
smartboyhw_lol09:26
smartboyhw_DarkEra: ttoine knows much more (he's the co-founder of Ubuntu Studio:P)09:27
DarkErawell, the wallpaper that is used in both versions is his work. For the rest i don't know what Dick did. :)09:27
DarkErasmartboyhw_, co-founder? So we have a ancient ubu stu guru around here :D09:28
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Damn it I got too used to zequence's wallpaper I completely forgotten the old one…09:28
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Yep09:28
DarkEralol09:28
smartboyhw_DarkEra: There is a channel log of here one early April (or late March) where I and zequence had a "Ubuntu Studio history" lesson from ttoine09:29
DarkErasmartboyhw_,  http://goo.gl/FjRNt09:31
smartboyhw_Probably earlier, I am sure madeinkobaia haven't joined that time09:31
DarkEraah ok, i'll look into that soon then, should be fun09:31
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Oh that one:P09:32
DarkErawe all together should rent a office and get together while working on things :P09:33
DarkErathat's on "together" too much09:35
smartboyhw_DarkEra: LOL:)09:35
smartboyhw_zequence: When I was trying to find ttoine's log I found http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2013/02/20/%23ubuntustudio-devel.html and seriously I'm not the youngest member. benonsoftware here applied when he was 12:P09:49
smartboyhw_And got it09:51
smartboyhwDarkEra: Damn the history lesson was after madeinkobaia joined http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2013/04/03/%23ubuntustudio-devel.html10:01
DarkEralol... i went on a search myself. :D10:02

smartboyhwYou DID join the team right?10:32
zequencesmartboyhw: I didn't. Since I'm not involved in Xubuntu development, I'm not going to take part in voting either10:33
zequencegoing outdoors for a while10:33
smartboyhwzequence: OK. I am taking dinner soon also10:34
smartboyhwDarkEra: Did I miss anything after I said I am going for dinner? I'm back from it12:21
DarkErawb smartboyhw 12:23
DarkErano you didn't miss anything, it's been quiet12:24
smartboyhwDarkEra: :)12:24
smartboyhwHello madeinkobaia13:40
madeinkobaiaHi smartboyhw :)13:41
DarkEraheya madeinkobaia 13:42

DarkErayou were gone by then.. LOL13:43
madeinkobaiadarkera : No problems ;) that's what I guess.13:43
DarkEra:D13:43
madeinkobaiaFor those who're interesting, I put on line some graphical branding studies for our OS, a square format : http://sta.sh/01ksyv29jaly and a poster project : http://sta.sh/0l23undp08x, both are mockups, just mixing some ideas.13:48
smartboyhwmadeinkobaia: Good ones!!!!!13:49
madeinkobaiasmartboyhw : Thanks :)13:50
DarkErai deffo like the second one13:51

DarkErayw :)14:02
DarkErai'm going for my daily walk... helps to calm my mind :)14:34
DarkErabbl14:34
smartboyhw_DarkEra: :)14:35
DarkErai'll stay online but away. If anything then let me know so i can read it back later on14:35
smartboyhw_DarkEra: Cheers;)14:36
madeinkobaiadarkera : How was your walk ?18:07
DarkEramadeinkobaia, it was nice :)18:08
madeinkobaiadarkera : No better thing than walkin' (in a nice place) for aerate the spirit. 18:11
madeinkobaiadarkera : I am not sure of the literal translation from French on "aerate the spirit" but I guess you understand :P18:12
DarkErai do it on a daily base when i can and yep i understand what you mean18:12
DarkEra:)18:12
DarkErait's good to set my mind on something else, get a clear head18:13
DarkErabeing busy with two little kids can be stressfull sometimes :D18:14
madeinkobaiadarkera : I have that when playing music too.18:14
DarkEramusic is always good for the soul :)18:14
madeinkobaiadarkera : I don't have children yet, but I can imagine could be stress sometimes.18:15
madeinkobaiadarkera : Music is good for all :D18:15
DarkEraall is great and beautiful when they are babies but when they reach 2 or 3 years they take up all the energy18:16
DarkErabut still, i love them to bits18:16
madeinkobaiadarkera : That's the essential.18:17
DarkEramadeinkobaia, i started working on something and first time using opensource software. It will take some time but i'm convinced i can pull it off to have a full new track at some point18:18
DarkErathere will be a new blogpost coming up soon where i explain a few things18:19
DarkEramadeinkobaia, and yep that's true18:20
madeinkobaiadarkera : Great, otherwise I am sorry I can't find anymore the link you send me about your music : (18:20
DarkEramadeinkobaia, oh. no problem. Hold on i'll paste it in a minute18:23
DarkErahttps://soundcloud.com/mathius-quest18:23
DarkErahere you go :)18:24
DarkErathe tomb raider track was made in 2008 on a iMac that died on me some time later and all the other tracks were made between 2000 and 2003 on a playstation 1 and playstation 218:25
madeinkobaiaOk, I will check that.18:28
DarkEraok :)18:29
zequenceDarkEra: nice work on the music18:31
zequenceI haven't heard much of it yet, and usually I only need to listen a few seconds to get a picture, but your music seems to have arrangements that have such a big impact on the big picture, that one needs to listen to at least a good part of it to get an idea18:33
DarkErazequence, thank you very much :)18:33
DarkEraand those were made on a ps1 and 2.... go figure :D18:34
DarkEraloads of work with only a game controller i tell you but it was fun to do18:36
zequenceSome kind of tracker program?18:36
zequenceI've never seen anyone make music on PS before18:36
zequenceA friend was using his Amiga once18:37
zequenceWe even were able to record short samples with it18:37
zequenceOr, was that on a Atari, I forget18:37
zequenceA tracker program anyway18:37
DarkEraon the PS 1 i had a program called Music 2000. You could create clips by clicking on it so that a window opened just like a midi editor.18:39
DarkErathe other one on the PS 2 was called MTV Music Generator iirc18:39
DarkEraboth also contained ready to use samlpes and you had oneshots etc. to create your own stuff18:40
DarkErabbl, seems like i'm needed here :)18:42
madeinkobaiadarkera : See you18:48
* DarkEra is back19:20
madeinkobaiaMy turn, bbl19:31
madeinkobaia:)19:31
DarkEradoh.... lol19:32
zequenceI've been talking to the ExTiX guy19:38
zequenceHe's been under the impression that the symbol was the Ubuntu COF, and had never heard of Ubuntu Studio19:38
DarkErazequence, oh yeah, i almost forgot to ask about that19:56
zequenceI still haven't got any confirmation if he's going to replace the wallpaper or not20:04
zequenceHe says he's been using it for the past two years20:04
DarkErai only noticed it when i saw the new release on DW. We'll see what he's going to do then.20:05
zequenceI wish someone could tell me the story behind the Ubuntu Studio circle of friends. We really should document it20:31
zequenceastraljava: What do you know about the Ubuntu Studio circle of friends symbol?20:31
zequencewho made it, for starters?20:33
zequenceOnce in a while you'll read about people who think the kernel can affect audio sound quality22:12
DarkErahmmm?22:14
