[00:16] hello, anyone up here installed Ubuntu Studio on Mac?? I would like to ask a few questions, and talk about some topics [00:17] DaNoiseMann: you can look up information about ubuntu on mac's in general [00:17] DaNoiseMann: ubuntustudio *is* ubuntu.. [00:17] !mac [00:17] For help on installing and using Ubuntu on a mac, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MactelSupportTeam/CommunityHelpPages [00:17] DaNoiseMann: Try the live DVD to see how it goes. You can try out your hardware that way [00:17] DaNoiseMann: i have installed ubuntu on a mac years ago, and it was "problematic"... [00:18] there are mac specific iso's now, which i think i would use, and add our ubuntustudio packages to [00:18] thanks, I know that ubuntu studio is ubuntu already, but since it uses xfce, there must be some differences [00:18] I remember using the puredyne live DVD with a Intel MacBook. Was no problem [00:18] based on 9.10 [00:19] DaNoiseMann: There are no differences when it comes to hardware support [00:19] DaNoiseMann: the differences are in look/feel and configuration [00:19] I already made this steps a few times in the past, got great results running xwax with serato, getting a latency of 1.33 ms and working perfect with a maya 44 without preamps [00:19] thanks a lot for your answers [00:20] I will check the wiki, and probably will install xubuntu, and then upgrade to ubuntu studio [00:20] DaNoiseMann: Then you might as well install Ubuntu Studio right away [00:20] As it is based on Xubuntu [00:21] DaNoiseMann: i would use the mac specific iso's, or at least entertain using them... [00:21] You'll need to do two things if you install anything else but Ubuntu Studio. 1. Add yourself to audio group. 2 install linux-lowlatency [00:21] 1) is needed for realtime privilege [00:22] perfect, know how to do that [00:22] running lowlatency kernels since a few years =) [00:23] thanks for the help [00:27] one more question: at UbuntuHashes I found an ISO which says: "ubuntu-12.04-alternate-amd64+mac.iso", the question is, is for 64 bit Macs? Don't know if Mac uses 64 bits, in that case I should get a 32 bits version or doesn' t matter? I'm on a core 2 duo MacBook [00:27] DaNoiseMann: I'd go with the 32 bit version [00:28] DaNoiseMann: Mostly because of getting the benefit of two cores [00:28] zequence, is the only version which says Mac [00:28] DaNoiseMann: The 64bit will work, but in my exprerience, with newer release at least, having only one core often makes the system freeze periodically under heavy load. I just find two cores more efficient [00:29] there are no i386 which says Mac [00:30] DaNoiseMann: i would just try whatever you are more comfortable with live, and go from there if you have issues [00:30] would try a few versions with liveCD then [00:31] DaNoiseMann: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MactelSupportTeam/AppleIntelInstallation [00:35] great!!! now I can see a widest picture of the whole business [05:23] hola.. [20:43] hi [20:54] kksafak: hey [22:29] hi, i am having issues with getting jack transport working in hydrogen on us13.04 [22:31] according to the debug info, hydrogen is using jack for audio, but i don't see the jack transport gui controls, any suggestions
