AmEvAnyone here able to help me?04:10
Mirvmorning04:11
AmEvMy tablet's stuck on a blank screen, but I'm wondering if there's a way to monitor progress.04:12
Mirvsergiusens: thanks, copying to daily-build-next now04:12
AmEvUbuntu_chroot just kills the tablet.04:12
MirvAmEv: but adb shell works otherwise? well I'm not an expert, but if it doesn't seem to fix itself by waiting + reboot, maybe try flashing again04:13
SpacedOutAmEv: Did it ever run ubuntu?  What state was it in, have you power cycled it?04:13
AmEvYes.04:13
AmEvFirst flash.04:13
AmEvWas working with Android before.04:14
SpacedOutWhich tablet?04:14
AmEvCodename antares. Toshiba Thrive.04:14
SpacedOutAfter unlocking I had the Android boot logo animation that never completed, but you said blank?04:14
AmEvYep.04:15
AmEvHas a funky Toshiba logo due to bug, then the blank screen.04:15
AmEvBacklight is on04:15
SpacedOutIs the image made for that model?  I've only ever tried the Nexus 10.04:16
AmEvYes. Flashed the Thrive-specific then the rootfs like the dev instructed.04:16
AmEvIt's a tegra 2 device if it helps out ar all.04:17
AmEvSorry for any typos; the S3 keyboard is slick and tiny.04:19
AmEvHmmm... last dmesg event was 13 seconds in.04:19
SpacedOutadb root; adb shell; ubuntu_chroot shell; then do a ps, from your last comment it sounds like you are already in.04:20
AmEvI'm in the ubuntu shell! No display though....04:21
sergiusensMirv: just in time for tomorrows build :-)04:21
Mirvsergiusens: good :)04:22
SpacedOutAmEv: see if qml-phone-shell is running, I have 47 processes with 'ps aux'04:22
AmEvHmmm. I wonder if I can install X from here...? haha04:22
SpacedOutmaliit-server would be another big one.  Yes if you want to write a driver, I'm assuming it doesn't exist.04:24
AmEvHmmmm....04:24
MirvAmEv: you can install anything, the another thing is whether you have a X.org driver that would display something ;) qml-phone-shell should have everything needed for the Ubuntu Touch's non-X support I think04:24
AmEvI think Nvidia released a Tegra 2 Linux driver somewhere.... Anyway, doesn't seem like either is running.04:25
SpacedOutA driver wouldn't show up in the process list.04:26
AmEvUhm....04:26
SpacedOutinitctl stop ubuntu-session; initctl start ubuntu-session04:27
SpacedOutstop will leave my screen black/blank with the backlight on, start will display the graphics again.04:27
AmEvuhm... unknown instance04:28
AmEvStart created process 277...04:29
AmEvNo display04:29
SpacedOutIs that still running?04:30
AmEvIt was immediately killed.04:30
SpacedOutrun `/bin/sh /usr/bin/ubuntu-session` that's what it is doing.04:31
AmEvI tried running running qml-phone-shell manually. Segfaulted.04:31
AmEvNo output, back to shell.04:32
AmEvWhere's the logs?04:32
SpacedOutHow good are your Linux, programming, Debian development skills?04:33
AmEvEhhh... I'm fairly new, but am a bit of a fast learner.04:33
SpacedOut/home/phablet/.ubuntu-session/logs/ubuntu-session.log04:33
AmEvIs the log supposed to be tiny?04:35
SpacedOutI don't have your hardware, so I can't do anything about your problem.  You could flash android and try again later when it has been updated, if it is a daily build you might even just try again in a couple days, if you want to dig in, edit /etc/apt/sources.list (and sources.list.d/*) to enable the source repositories, apt-get update, apt-get source (whatever is crashing), recompile with debugging and see if you can fix it.04:36
SpacedOutmine is 10 lines04:37
AmEv20 here.04:37
SpacedOutDoes the power button turn the backlight off?04:39
AmEvYes.04:39
AmEvDoesn't come back on though.04:40
AmEvOK.04:40
AmEvWas daily.04:41
SpacedOutGood because just having the backlight on draws more power than a usb port supplies the  Nexus 10 .04:41
AmEvThanks for helping me out, though.04:43
SpacedOutThe least work is to wait a few days and try again, I've had a black screen and reflashed before to fix it.04:45

didrocksMirv: at least, we get "reliably" the failure on intel, as it seems it happened everyday07:39

Mirvyes. too bad it hasn't been possible to repeat the failure on an own machine.07:39

Wellarkhi guys!10:22
Wellarkanyone remembers how to take a screenshot on a device?10:22
victorpWellark, you can do that from QTC10:23
oSoMoNdpm: I’m looking into dh_translations, and when it invokes xgettext to create the pot file it doesn’t find any strings because it doesn’t know it has to look for "i18n.tr", and there doesn’t seem to be a way to pass xgettext extra options10:23
victorpon the Ubuntu Touch menu option10:23
dpmoSoMoN, xgettext can take options to look for tr, let me check which option it is. In any case, we might need to add support for the Ubuntu sdk for dh_translations, so the best thing might be to file a bug against dh_translations and go ahead with the way you were packaging already10:25
oSoMoNdpm: I know it can take extra options (I think it is --keyword), but dh_translations doesn’t expose a way to pass them, I’ll file a bug10:26
dpmoSoMoN, ah, ok, I understand now, yes.10:26

dpmexcellent, thanks oSoMoN!10:44
oSoMoNdpm: the MR should land soon in webbrowser-app trunk, is there anything to do on the LP side to enable automatic export of translations to trunk?10:50
dpmoSoMoN, yes, we can do that now, but I'll need your help for one step in setting up the exports branch. Let me see...10:50
dpmoSoMoN, actually, I don't have permissions at all, but I can guide you on how to do it. Shouldn't take more than 5 mins10:52
dpmoSoMoN, 1) Go to https://translations.launchpad.net/~webbrowser-app and set:10:53
dpm- Translatioins done in Launchpad10:53
dpm- Translations group: Ubuntu Translators10:53
dpm- Permissions: Restricted10:53
dpm- Focus: trunk, or whichever series you're working in10:53
dpmoSoMoN, the direct link for that is https://translations.launchpad.net/webbrowser-app/+configure-translations10:55
oSoMoNdpm: it seems it’s already all set to those values, must have been bfiller who set it up yesterday10:56
dpmoSoMoN, ok, yeah, it seems I do have some permissions too, I was just looking at the wrong URL. So the final step is to set the translations export branch10:57
dpmoSoMoN, can you set the trunk branch in https://translations.launchpad.net/webbrowser-app/trunk/+link-translations-branch10:57
oSoMoNdpm: no, I’m not allowed, I’ll ask bfiller to give me permissions when he gets online11:01
dpmoSoMoN, ah, you're hitting the same permission issue as myself. Only members of the branch's team can set that.11:03
dpmoSoMoN, yeah, you only need to be added to the https://launchpad.net/~phablet-team team11:09
dpmhi gatox, I saw the video of your Tabu app the other day, nice work! It'd be nice to add to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Collection - do you have the code somewhere?11:09
dpmoSoMoN, did you manage to get the clock app to load the French translations?11:17
oSoMoNdpm: yes, after fixing a bug in the app (see revision 77 in the trunk)11:18
gatoxdpm, hi, thanks.... i'll add it on sunday probably, i need to finish some parts of the code.... and i'll add other applications i'm doing too11:19
dpmoSoMoN, great, thanks for fixing that. Yes, when I first set the domain in the code, the SDK didn't have the feature to set it automatically11:19
dpmgatox, cool :)11:20
dpmoSoMoN, do you have a device with Touch handy and a few minutes time? I don't have one at the moment, and I'd need someone's help to test the localization of the clock app on a device11:22
=== jppiiroinen is now known as jppiiroinen|afk
oSoMoNdpm: sure11:24
oSoMoNdpm: where do I get a deb to test it?11:25
dpmoSoMoN, great, thanks. From the coreapps PPA -> https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-touch-coreapps-drivers/+archive/daily11:25
dpmoSoMoN, I'd simply like to test: 1) e.g. the French translation (fr_FR.UTF-8) and 2) the Simplified Chinese translation (zh_CN.UTF-8)11:28
dpmoSoMoN, off the top of my head, I think this is what will be needed to test them:11:28
dpm1) Generate the locales with locale-gen11:28
dpm2) Installed any required fonts for zh_CN (I'll have to find that out)11:29
dpm3) Set /etc/default/locale to fr_FR.UTF-8 first and then zh_CN.UTF-811:29
nik90dpm: I haven't pushed my branch regarding the locale variables (numbers) to trunk yet. They still require testing before doing that.11:30
dpmThe font part might be the trickiest, so I'd recommend testing with the French translation first, to see if localization works at all11:30
dpmnik90, ah, sorry, I got disconnected in the middle of our conversation the other day11:31

Mirvogra_: well preferably, unless a) someone tests the qt5-beta-proper PPA before I copy the saucy contents to qt5-proper PPA, or b) breaking saucy images is acceptable11:57
Mirvogra_: the thing is that the desktop users could use the 5.0.2 already, and it's working for them. of course, 5.0.2 also works on raring, but at least a quick smoke test would be needed on saucy device to see that mostly stuff works.11:57
Mirvogra_: but removing qt5-proper from the builds would solve the device part11:58
Mirvogra_: ie. relying only on daily-build-next and what is in archives. archives will probably receive 5.0.2 next week11:58
dpmoSoMoN, discussing how to set the locale on #ubuntu-desktop atm. The TL;DR seems to be that we write the new locale to /etc/default/locale and then we need to restart the session for it to pick it up11:59
Mirvogra_: if it's doable to remove qt5-proper from saucy builds at least temporarily, I'd do that so that it's opt-in11:59
ogra_Mirv, breaking saucy is acceptable until end of next week12:01
dpmoSoMoN, so could you try to set /etc/default/locale to zh_CN.UTF-8 and reboot to see if that works?12:02
Mirvogra_: could it be disabled anyway, ie. is it one commit away for commenting out it from saucy image builds at least until beginning of next week?12:02
Mirvogra_: since currently there's nothing installed from there, and I'd like it to stay that way at least a couple of days until it's tested a bit12:02

boikosergiusens: abandoned? no, just big changes going on the way: splitting up it into 3 apps13:24
boikosergiusens: but the new apps will all live under lp:phone-app at first13:24
didrocksboiko: ok, seems that it was miscommunicated to sil2100 then13:24
didrocksboiko: hum, if it's 3 sources, we need 3 launchpad projects13:24
didrocksthat avoid confusion in bug reports, enable us to not have mixed repos and so on13:25
boikodidrocks: they share lots of code, so at first it is easier to keep them all under the same tree13:25
didrocksboiko: ah, so same source?13:25
didrocks(one bzr repo)13:25
boikodidrocks: yep, one bzr repo for now, just 3 separate binaries and deb packages13:25
didrocksok, works well :)13:26
boikosergiusens: so, should we move the phone-app to the phablet-team's ppa to get the correct indicator-messages?13:28
sergiusensdidrocks: boiko well that brings up the question: 'when is indicator-messages going to be fixed/merged/updated?', 'do we want to build in ppa:phablet-team in the meantime?13:28
didrockssergiusens: I think it's more a question for the indicator team, isn't it?13:29
sergiusensdidrocks: yeah, but I'm laying out the options for now :-)13:29

didrocks1 source, 3 binaries, I meant13:29
* didrocks takes some coffee13:29
sergiusensboiko: ok, and the same for the new tele.* projects, phablet-team, right?13:30
bfilleroSoMoN: pong13:30

boikosergiusens: the other ones can stay wherever they are currently13:31
sergiusensboiko: so the other two are fine for daily release?13:31
sergiusensboiko: I need to add them still, but I get the point13:31
sergiusens:-)13:31
boikosergiusens: yep, phone-app is also fine, except for the phablet's indicator-message :/13:31
sergiusenstedg: any ETA on indicator-messages updates?13:32
tedgsergiusens, ?13:32
* tedg looks at backlog13:32
tedgAh, so you guys want the phablet branch of indicator-messages merged into mainline.13:33
sergiusenstedg: if it's still in the plans, yes13:34
tedgIt's kinda blocked on design unfortunately, but I think we can "hack" it to get something soonish.13:34
tedgThe official line is that it shouldn't be the same on both, but that's clearly ridiculous.13:35
tedgSo they're supposed to "review" it.13:35
tedgI think we should just "make them one" for now even if it's non-idea on both so that we have something working.13:35
tedgThat's currently the plan.13:35
sergiusensack, does that mean we need to rebrand ?13:35
tedgSo larsu is working on that.  He's on vacation this week.  And a couple things before that... so a couple weeks out.13:36

ogra_(i have to do a manual build now anyway)15:18
Mirvand the saucy preparation copies were done in the daily-build-next15:18
Mirvogra_: I mean there shouldn't have been anything for saucy in qt5-proper before I now did the first copies15:19
ogra_Mirv, well, then the copies break it15:19
ogra_it definitely worked fine until this change15:19
Mirvqtbase and qtpim are in daily-build-next15:19
Mirvogra_: nothing new was copied to daily-build-next15:19
Mirvogra_: when the saucy first preparation was done, people copied the needed packages to daily-build-next and qt5-proper was afaik left empty15:20
ogra_well, all i can say is that yesterdays build worked, and todays does have a lot of uninstallables after the change15:21
Mirvogra_: I can see qtfeedback though as the only one in qt5-proper, I can copy that over to daily-build-next15:21

ogra_well, i can trigger a new build15:27

* sil2100 stays silent16:05
cyphermoxbregma: tedg: if you could please look into these tests, or assuming that they are deemed unnecessary and other tests cover the code sufficiently well, remove them16:06
cyphermox(I don't know about didrocks, but I feel fine with removing tests if they're just totally broken and the stuff is covered)16:06
tedgI think that, in this case, the issue is that HUD2 updates the entries, so that the button being used disappears.  So I think it is a timing issue.16:07
cyphermoxor we can possibly change the threshold for failing tests16:07
didrockscyphermox: well, if you are confident there are enough tests covering that…16:07
bregmaconsensus in my team was that the tests were too fast and a timing tweak should have caused them to succeed16:07
tedgWe need to wait for the HUD dialog to stabilize before looking at it's results.16:07
cyphermoxdidrocks: I'm not, but the developers writing the projects might be :)16:07
cyphermoxtedg: but we can't drop hud tests without not releasing hud16:08
cyphermoxif it's a timing issue, please let me know how to fix it16:08
cyphermoxthere are three tests here that are failing reliably on all three autopilot vms http://10.97.0.1:8080/job/ps-generic-autopilot-release-testing/417/testReport/16:08
tedgI think that we need to submit value to HUD, wait, check results.  That wait in the middle either doesn't exist, or isn't long enough.16:08
tedgI don't know how to edit that value, but I was thinking that was what sil2100 was doing.16:09

pmcgowanFrederickLinux, can you do apt-cache policy qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu in a terminal and get the version16:32

sil2100_cyphermox, bregma: ^16:37
bregmasil2100_, cyphermox, I want bschaefer to review that because he was originally looking into the problem on our side, he's out for an hour or so16:40
FrederickLinux<pmcgowan> thans for you help, this instructions solved my problem,16:40
pmcgowansuper!16:40
FrederickLinux<pmcgowan> is perfect in this moment i have a templeates for ubuntu touch, mmm you speak spanish?16:41
pmcgowanFrederickLinux, afraid not16:42
dpmnik90, sorry, I had to go into calls and I didn't finish testing your branch. At a first glance, it seems Arabic is loading the right localized numbers, though16:43
sil2100_bregma, cyphermox, bschaefer: I asked tedg about that yesterday and he said 'ok' to a workaround for now16:43
FrederickLinux<pmcgowan> ok no problem, mmm then i see later, thanks and good luck16:43
bschaefersil2100_, have I missed something?16:44
bschaeferworkaround for?16:45
sil2100_bschaefer: workaround for the HUD lagging in entry activation while search is still updating16:47

ubot5Launchpad bug 1180903 in Unity "HUD command activation takes a long time when results are updating" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/118090316:47
bschaefersil2100_, o cool, yeah im pretty sure thats the real cause of those hud failures16:47
bschaeferhud failures in the AP tests16:48
nik90dpm: ah that's nice to know16:48
bregmabschaefer, https://code.launchpad.net/~sil2100/unity/autopilot_misc_changes/+merge/16445216:48
nik90dpm: in that case, I will continue doing this to other parts of the clock app where appropriate and then look to merging it into the clock app.16:49
bschaeferbregma, cool16:49
bschaefersil2100_, thanks for pushing a branch :)16:49
* bschaefer reviews16:49
sil2100_bschaefer: and with cyphermox timeout changes, it makes even more sense16:49
udev1_2How to add notification in qml app for ubuntu touch? (http://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/1ehwz9/how_to_add_notification_in_qml_app_for_ubuntu/)16:49
nik90dpm: I will get it reviewed by you before the merge to trunk.16:49
sil2100_https://code.launchpad.net/~mathieu-tl/unity/hud-tests-timeouts/+merge/164447 <- as well ;)16:49
bschaefersil2100_, yup :)16:49
bschaefersil2100_, and cool, yeah I had the AP tests re run and they haven't shown up again, which sounds like a timing issue to me16:50
* bschaefer also wonders why we are in #ubuntu-touch16:50
udev1_2If there is a ubuntu touch dev team, who could help me on this?16:50
bregmaI'm concerned these problems may actually reveal a regression in the HUD responsiveness, though16:50
nik90dpm: you got any screenshots for blogging purposes :) ?16:51
bschaeferbregma, yeah, hmm shall we poke tedg to take a look at that?16:51
udev1_2How do you add notify-osd style notification on ubuntu touch?16:52
dpmnik90, let me check it out properly and send you a screenshot16:53
nik90dpm: thnx16:58
sil2100_bregma, bschaefer: tedg said yesterday that they know about this issue and were discussing it16:58
udev1_2Is notification api (not signal/slot) built onto the sdk already or is it not. If it is where should I look, I need a guidance guys. If it is not built, I would like some dev to tell so, please16:59
boikoudev1_2: if your app uses C/C++, you can use libnotify to place notifications16:59
boikoudev1_2: not sure there is notifications already in the toolkit, but at some point I think there will be17:00
udev1_2boiko, thanks. However I was hit by a concern in last virtual uds about having an api or something over c++17:00
udev1_2If there is already, a custom one would be waste and a security issue too17:01
boikoudev1_2: what do you mean? if we create a C++ API or QML bindings, they will have to be compatible with libnotify's API, and probably even use libnotify behind the scenes17:02
udev1_2Ok no problem then, I will create one. Thanks for the help17:02

pmcgowanaxt, go ahead and post your questions19:18
axtpmcgowan, i think i figured out the problem! I thought i have a galax nexus, but its a galaxy nexus s, and I guess that version  is not supported19:19
pmcgowanah19:19
pmcgowanaxt, you check the devices page19:19
axtpmcgowan, you mean on this site? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install19:21
pmcgowanyep19:21
axtyes, it only mentions "galaxy nexus"19:21
axtnot "galaxy nexus s"19:21
axtso i guess that two are two different versions, and the later is not yet supported19:22
pmcgowanaxt, no there is another porting page19:22

jhpy1024Does anyone know if I can run python programs on Ubuntu touch?19:45
jhpy1024I'm thinking of trying it out on my Nexus 1019:45
f69mSure, python works. Though it is not the best idea to use python on a mobile device, considering energy consumption and RAM usage.19:51
rob_wwell they use java .. so what19:51
f69mhehe, true :-)19:52
f69mBut UT doesn't!19:52
dobeyf69m: but it's not impossible to install j2me on an ubuntu image, and run some java apps, if you really want to20:00
f69mdobey: Of course. All the power hidden in the Ubuntu repos is st your fingertips. That's the beauty of UT.20:02
mhall119anybody around for the YouTube app meeting?20:04
nielis this the right place to ask advice for a phone I will be getting and installing ubuntu?20:40
nielwell ill go for it ive always has an IOS device and want to switch to an ubuntu device now do I just go get an android and install it I have to clue20:41
user82niel, right now ubuntu touch is not completely ready. but first class phones would be the nexus devices (the google ones) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices20:42
niellike what cant it do compared to  normal smartphone?20:44
dobeymake calls, install apps, in general be a usable phone. it's not a finished and ready system yet.20:45
user82niel, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install#What_to_expect_after_flashing20:45
user82and yes i meant no _yet_ _completely_. but they say very soon it is usable (end of may they said actually)20:46
dobeywell a few people have been able to make calls with it now. but it's an in-development system. there will be a lot of changes over the next 6-12 months20:46
nielwell thats a little dissapointing20:46
nielit says it can make calls20:46
nielPhone calls and SMS (on Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4)20:47
nielso the promo videos are quite deceiving20:48
dobeyno20:48
dobeythey are promo videos20:48
dobeyor well, demo videos20:48
=== francisco is now known as Guest85075
nielif it cant make calls why would anyone use it?20:49
dobeyit's an open development model20:49
dobeyit will eventually make calls on all the devices it can run on20:49
dobeylike we said, it's not finished20:50
dobeyif you want a finished product, than your best bet is to wait until it's finished, and a phone is announced that ships with ubuntu on it from the factory20:50
nielbut from there website with the whole phone section they make it sound finished20:50
user82calls should work on the nexus devies...3g data is the thing missing for me20:50
nielouch20:51
nielyea I kind of need my phone20:51
user82well wait a few more months..then it will be a complete system20:51
user82and 3g data shoudl work very soon20:51
nielok cool did you say there will be an ubuntu phone?20:51
dobeythe whole point of building a mobile OS is so that OEMs will ship it on their mobile devices, yes.20:52
nielawesome20:52
nielwell I guess ill deal with my iphone and check to see if its out every few weeks20:54

rickspencer3nice :)22:02
rickspencer3sergiusens, I really think we'll be able to use our phones full time after May, at the rate we are going22:02
rickspencer3sergiusens, having phablet-flash preserve my data today was a nice touch, was that you as well?22:03
sergiusensrickspencer3: I'm using it already :-) I only miss social network integration (as in IM)22:03
rickspencer3sergiusens, hmm, what IM client?22:03
sergiusensrickspencer3: yeah, some mods to the way we update the system22:03

user82rickspencer3, has 3g data come along?22:13
rickspencer3user82, according to ChickenCutlass it should be working as early as next week22:14
rickspencer3It sounds like awe_ hit some snags, but has overcome them22:14
user82very good to know!22:15
rickspencer3and is in the debugging phases22:15
user82what about facebook and music player?22:15
rickspencer3looking at the clock, I assume at this moment both of them are in the Friday night beer phase22:15
rickspencer3user82, I think that for facebook, that will just be a web app22:15
rickspencer3the music player/media player is coming along22:16
user82very good. looking forward to switching over to ubuntu!22:16
rickspencer3not sure of the status, but you should be able to install it and try it out, even on your desktop22:16
rickspencer3user82, cool!22:16
rickspencer3I can't wait to get my phone next week :)22:16
user82nexus 4 i assume?22:16
rickspencer3user82, yeah22:17
rickspencer3I was looking for a nexus, but just couldn't find one22:18
rickspencer3I like to keep my hardware low end ;)22:18
user82can i make a app that just points to a website like in the desktop ubuntu web-apps?22:18
rickspencer3user82, yes22:18
rickspencer3user82, you can use QtCreator to wrap up QtWebkit, for example22:19
user82for the local transport. i guess that site would fit in there? http://efa.mvv-muenchen.de/mvv/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=de22:19
rickspencer3but I think the webapps team has some fancier tools in mind22:19
user82ok good to know22:19
rickspencer3user82, well, you could wrap that in a web kit window22:19
rickspencer3but I'm betting is uses form posts22:20
rickspencer3in which case you could probably make a nicer customer qt front end for it22:20
user82the local transport app is the thing i will miss the most..i eventually try to recreate it since there is an open source app to access the data22:20
nik90user82, rickspencer3: there is a facebook core apps being developed at the moment.22:20
rickspencer3nik90, oh? good to know ... and very cool22:21
nik90I heard it is coming along good as well with the friends api22:21
user82okay good to know nik9022:21
rickspencer3I think jono is a good resource for keeping up with the status of different apps as well22:22
rickspencer3though sounds like nik90 is pretty clued in to what is going on ;)22:22
user82well this site is even better i guess http://efa.mvv-muenchen.de/mobile/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=de22:22
user82whatever..good to know it works22:23
user82has anyone compared the battery life to stock android?22:23
nik90rickspencer3: :)22:29
rickspencer3user82, yeah, there is a pretty big effort around power management22:29
rickspencer3the plan is that we will set current android performance specs as limits22:29
nik90user82: the site should do the job, however the site should defintely have an api. It would look and perform much better if it is written in qml.22:30
rickspencer3and any day that we exceed those limits, we will fail the image, and fix it until it beats android again22:30
=== salem_ is now known as _salem
user82nik90, there is no api i am afraid22:36
user82rickspencer3, can i install a custom android kernel? and configure it with root rights22:36
rickspencer3user82, uh, you can do whatever you want, I guess ...22:39
rickspencer3but I wouldn't know how to do what you are asking22:39
user82well there would need to be an app that writes stuff to the corresponding "files"...maybe someone develops it22:40
leniosrickspencer3, are you confident you can beat the android performance everytime?22:43
rickspencer3lenios, I think it's a worthy goal22:44
rickspencer3and we have some seriously smart and motivated people working on it22:44
rickspencer3so, yeah, I'm confident :)22:44
leniosgreat :)22:44
user82with performance you mean battery time?22:47
user82can you run custom boot scripts in ubuntu touch. i guess so?22:48
user82nik90, i sent out an email to the local transport asking for api possibility22:49
nik90user82: nice. If you are planning to write an app, I can always help :)22:50
nik90user82: or atleast provide incase you are stuck somewhere22:50
user82nik90, i have very less programmign experience. but i guess i can manage to dig myself through the tutorials and give it a shot22:51
user82biggest channlenge i see when a api is given is autoguess the right station from what the user is alredy typing22:51
user82is the qml compiled to native code?22:54
nik90user82: no compilation required22:56
user82nik90, then how performant is it? is it any better than dalvikvm?22:57
nik90there are plans to revamp developer.ubuntu.com to provide code snippets to help new users22:57
nik90definitely better than dalvikvm22:57
user82ok22:57
nik90android uses java and hence requires dalvikvm.22:57
nik90while qml/qt code are all native and do not require dalvikvm. hence they run directly on the system thereby cutting any middleman out22:58
nik90hence the performance is much better22:58
user82well i just noticed the current android app provided has a nice list of all stuff included...a offline app should work already without api22:59
awe_rickspencer3, unless I get really lucky, 3g is week after next with manual configuration required as we won't have all the settings UI in place23:00
rickspencer3hey awe_ manual settings is fine for dogfooding23:01
rickspencer3:)23:01
awe_rickspencer3, but that said, I did get past the reverse engineering crap for now...23:01
rickspencer3awe_, that's awesome23:10
rickspencer3see what I did htere23:10
mhall119anybody know when we'll gain the ability to change the icons in the Launcher?23:22
user82while you are on that mhall119: and when we can change the lockscreen color23:24
mhall119I assume that will change based on wallpaper, like desktop does23:28
user82that would be cool23:30
