[10:08] chirag_d_gr8: Use sudo [10:09] !sudo [10:09] sudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo [10:09] !kdesudo [10:09] In KDE use « kdesudo » to run graphical applications with root privileges when you have to. [16:29] I'd say it is now [16:30] synaptic was becoming slow to load and run so i finally gave it up [16:34] yeah i think i'll gor for it [18:03] Trying to ping and cannot, and its not working. Ping works everywhere else except IN to this box. === ubuntu is now known as Guest10339 [18:06] Also trying to vnc into box isn't working. ssh does work. I disabled ufw, but is there something else I may be missing? [18:10] using network manager , Jeruvy? [18:11] BluesKaj not intentionally. :) [18:12] for your netwoking settings [18:14] like vnc [18:15] VNC doesn't work anymore [18:16] my understanding is it uses knetworkmanager, but I can't see it. === carlos is now known as Guest92916 [18:19] !Krfb | Jeruvy [18:19] So using krfb how does one automate remote login? [18:20] (ie: I don't want to send permission requests) [18:20] removing it seemed out of the question. Wanted to do a kde-full removal. [18:22] Jeruvy, don't know much about it , just that it's described as http://pastebin.com/GryrwVHv [18:23] And for some reason the machine is blocking my vnc requests to 5900. I do not know why. [18:25] Krfb isn't installed by default here [18:28] I'm curious how you did that. [18:29] Ilooked up the description of Kfrb in muon and copied pasted the text to www.pastebin.com then copied the resulting URL after submitting the text [18:31] and pasted the url here, which automtically creates a link to that page [18:31] !pastebin [18:31] For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imagebin.org/?page=add | !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. Usecase: I'm debugging an app so I'm using the app and have breakpoints in my ide, now I want to press a button to go to the next breakpoint while I'm in my app === kubuntu is now known as Guest75770 [20:04] I'm having problems installing Kubuntu 12.04 [20:04] Is there an expert here who can help me? [20:09] lars: I'm not an expert but what's your proble? [20:10] Hi Lars, whats the issue? === jan is now known as Janneman [21:05] network issues... someone can help? [21:19] juniormendonca, ok what's happening with your network ? [21:21] hi, in `ps -o ??` what is the identifier of current, NOT cumulative cpu utilization? thanks [21:24] i'm getting network instable, [21:24] using it now... and simply stops working [21:25] and conection comes back by itself with no intervention [21:26] that happened right now [21:26] kubuntu 12.04 x64 [21:27] BluesKaj: i can use network with no complications on Linux Mint [21:27] just your irc server or thepc/ modem / router connection to the internet [21:27] connections to the internet [21:27] my pc conection to internet [21:28] i think MAYBE my driver can be updated [21:28] but i don't know how on linux [21:28] first check the physical connections [21:28] i'm windows user [21:28] physicals ok [21:28] checked already [21:29] juniormendonca, had no issue on Linux Mint? [21:29] ethernet or wifi ? [21:29] exatly palasso [21:29] What version of Linux Mint was it? [21:29] eth === lars is now known as kubuntu === kubuntu is now known as Genyar [21:29] the last one don't remember exatly [21:30] Linux Mint 14 Nadia? [21:30] Nadia [21:30] thats it [21:30] Ok [21:30] 64-bit? [21:30] with nadia x86 network OK [21:30] with kubuntu x86 and x64 network fails [21:31] kubuntu 12.04? [21:31] yes [21:31] I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out which versions of kernel you had in each case [21:31] can u see any light? [21:31] You said you're using eth right? So no proprietary driver right? [21:32] so i tell u that network ok using windows too [21:32] man. I can't confirm that [21:32] Is it ethernet? [21:33] ethernet [21:33] can't confirm about proprietary driver [21:33] could you find from menu the "additional drivers" program? [21:34] If you use any proprietary driver it should list it there [21:35] trying to launch app [21:35] Kubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.2 64-bit seems to have the problem and Linux Mint 14 with kernel 3.5 32-bit seems to work ok. I would try out a more recent version of Kubuntu in case it'd change sth. [21:35] Does this disconnection happen often? [21:36] frequently [21:36] curiously right now we got no problem [21:36] upgrading OS [21:36] maybe fixed it ... [21:37] I'd try to test it with a liveCD on Kubuntu 12.10 or even 13.04 in case it'd happen [21:37] i got liveCD and same situation [21:37] 12.04 [21:37] with 12.04? [21:37] Yeah [21:37] So it's reproducible and it's on unchanged liveCD [21:38] Maybe it's a problem on the specific release [21:38] How abt trying out a liveCD with 13.04 or 12.10 [21:39] So if my speculation is correct 12.10 32-bit should behave like Linux Mint [21:39] so... no problem about that... but it really seems to be fixed right now [21:39] with OS updating [21:39] upgrading [21:39] I hope it's fixed :) [21:40] so palasso where r u from? [21:40] Though you're still using the old kernel... You need to restart after the distro upgrade for the new kernel to load [21:40] hum. [21:40] But it might not be an issue on the kernel... and it might be fixed anyways [21:40] so I'm not using the updated version yet? [21:41] ok i got it [21:41] You're not using the kernel yet. The other parts are getting loaded from disk as they're needed so they're the updated ones mostly [21:41] So now you're on 13.04 64-bit? [21:42] how can i see? [21:43] how can i see some "My Computer properties"? [21:43] open a terminal and type: lsb_release -a [21:44] I think there is a module somewhere on KDE system settings as well just don't remember right now where... [21:44] 12.04.2 LTS [21:44] precise [21:45] Ok so that was a regular update... [21:45] upgrading 12.04 to 13.04 with no formatting is no recommended? [21:45] or possible [21:45] ? [21:46] It is possible. You can do it if you want. I just wouldn't recommend it yet. I'd firstly try out the liveCD solution [21:46] just for upgrading and no for fixing that issue [21:47] 12.04 is an LTS release. 13.04 is standard release (support for 9 months only) you might want to stay on LTS. If it persists on LTS then maybe you'd have a better experience on a more recent release if no other solution is found [21:47] if you open up muon package manager there is a button that does that ;) [21:49] i did it [21:49] You may also go from muon's menu to "Software Sources" and change the setting which will notify you every time (every 6 months) a new kubuntu release is available [21:50] You can select there if you want to be notified for newer LTS-only releases (which happen every 2 years next being 14.04), all releases or not getting a notification about newer releases [21:51] juniormendonca, after the update finishes do a restart and then type in terminal lsb_release -a to see the release [21:51] ok I'm out see you tomorrow [21:51] palasso: tks a lot! === ToBeFree is now known as matjohnson === matjohnson is now known as ToBeFree [22:04] Why is the package containing kwin dependent on nvidia hardware?
