meHi02:17

Guest40410how can I run an executable in sandbox ?02:17
holsteinGuest40410: what executable? what sandbox?04:13
Guest40410I need to run a program that I'm not sure about it's safety. I need a software to a technique that ensure that the program doesn't change the state of my operating system and my data.04:22
Guest40410software 'or' a technique04:22
holsteinGuest40410: if im not sure, i dont run it.. what program? what sandbox?04:23
holsteinGuest40410: i would argue, a live CD is a type of sandbox04:24
Guest40410sandbox technology exist in softwares on operating system04:24
holsteinGuest40410: sure04:24
holsteinGuest40410: what are you trying to do? the live CD wont work for you?04:24
Guest40410sandboxie for example, it is a software for windows04:24
holstein!chroot04:25
ubot93A chroot is used to make programs believe that the directory they are running in is really the root directory. It can be used to stop programs accessing files outside of that directory, or for compiling 32bit applications in a 64bit environment - see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BasicChroot04:25
holsteinGuest40410: will a live CD not work?04:25
Guest40410yeah, I knew about chroot, I can even create a new user, and run the program with that user04:26
Guest40410but this ensure file system security04:27
holsteinGuest40410: what would i do?04:27
Guest40410how about other aspects of it ?04:27
holsteinGuest40410: remove the hard driver if i was that concerned, and run it from a live CD04:27
holsteinGuest40410: will a live CD not work?04:27
holsteinGuest40410: virtualbox install with a snapshot?04:27
holsteinGuest40410: a chroot?04:27
Guest40410LiveCD works, I can even use virtual machines, but I want a way which is convenient, non resource intensive and quick.04:28
holsteinGuest40410: do you want safe? of convenient?04:28
holsteinor*04:28
Guest40410both :-)04:28
holsteinGuest40410: the ways above are isolated04:28
Guest40410those are hardcore04:29
holsteinmight want to try http://www.docker.io/04:29
holsteinGuest40410: i dont think a live CD is hard core04:29
holsteinhttp://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/37396/docker-containers-made-easy-las-s27e01/04:29
Guest40410yeah that's cool.04:29
Guest40410it a virtual environment management tool, isn't?04:30
holsteinGuest40410: its a sandbox.. a jail..04:31
Guest40410I think chroot or running under another user works for me.04:31
holsteinGuest40410: think?04:32
holsteinthe other user will only isolate certain things.. and might be exploitable04:32
holsteinGuest40410: what would i do? live CD... what do i think would work? docker or chroot04:32
Guest40410but there is a linux software 'arkose', which is exactly what I want. but it has bugs under ubuntu 13.0404:32
holsteinGuest40410: ?04:33
holsteinGuest40410: so, install 12.04.. or deal with or fix the bugs.. or use one of the other options04:33
holsteinwont hurt to try docker04:34
Guest40410thanks for the tips :-)04:34
Guest40410yeah I should try it04:34
Guest40410If it use lxc underneath, it should be pretty fast04:34

Phryqhey, I'm trying to fresh install ubuntu from a USB disk, but I get a bootloader error when I try to do so. I'm using Unetbootin and downloaded from the torrent. I tried deleting everything on the flash drive and re-installing twice. Same error each time13:26
