wachinYes13:28
wachinThanks OvenWerks for your answer13:29
OvenWerksI have heard that there have been audio problems with the 3.8 kernel and some sound cards. Is there a reason you need 13.04 over 12.04?13:30
wachinI wanted to help developers, wanted to be a beta tester13:32
OvenWerksFantastic!13:32
wachinYea13:33
OvenWerksWe are actually working on 13.10 right now, which will have a newer kernel.13:33
wachinI want help13:33
wachinCorrect13:33
wachinBut I can download13:33
OvenWerksThe generic is already 3.9 but may well be 3.10 by the time we release.13:34
OvenWerksWe have not released any new kernel for 13.10 yet though.13:35

OvenWerksFor testing it is best to have an extra partition besides the one you use for every day computing.13:39

MaynardWatersis it possible that fdisk has a limitation under 3TB in the current ubuntu?17:46
holsteinlimitation of what?17:47
MaynardWatersit cant format a full 3TB drive17:48
MaynardWatersI used it, and then when I check it with the disk utility gui, it shows that only 2.2TB have been formatted, and about 800GB are free17:49
holsteinmaybe thats just he typical overhead17:50
holsteinsince its so giant17:50
holsteini remember bypassing that one time on a drive i added17:50
holsteinnot 3tb's though17:50
MaynardWatersbypassing?17:51
holsteinwhat would i do? probably load up a gparted live CD17:51
holsteinMaynardWaters: yes. *not* using the typical setup.. the typical overhead17:51
MaynardWaters800GB as a typical overhead? no way.17:51
holsteinMaynardWaters: ok17:51
holsteinMaynardWaters: i dont think so either, but *something* is going on17:51
holsteinall i can do is offer suggestions for you to troubleshoot17:51
holsteini dont have a 3tb drive here17:51
MaynardWaterssure, suggestions are welcome17:51
MaynardWatersive dealt with 2TB disks before, but not 3TB, I didnt expect much difference17:52
MaynardWatersI'll play around with it a little more and report back, and humbly welcome any suggestions17:52
holsteinunless it has "full linux support" written on the box, you should be cautious of having expectations17:53
MaynardWatersa disk is a disk is a disk, in my mind17:53
MaynardWatersI was under the impression that the worst thing that would happen is I might need to load up some more advanced driver or something of that type17:54
holsteinsure.. but the vendor *should* supply that driver.. and if they dont, you could be less than happy with the support17:55
holsteinis that the issue? i doubt it.. i doubt its the over head17:55
holsteini would hit it with a gparted live CD a current one, and see what the new partition you make looks like17:55
MaynardWatersholstein: why do you suggest the live CD?18:15
MaynardWaterso isee18:15
MaynardWatersone thing you should know is that I have my OS on a solid state drive, and then my plan is to RAID together 3 - 3TB's for a media storage monstar18:16
MaynardWatersso no need for the live cd18:16
holsteinsure.. but, what im suggesting is a gparted live CD.. a new one.. a small one, with the most current version18:17
holsteinwhy? because, in the past, using the one from repos, i have had different results with the one from the live CD they make18:18
holsteinif i had a windows install, i would fire that up and make a big ntfs partition and look at it18:18
holsteini think at this point, i would want to be sure the drive was OK, while i could still return it18:19
holsteinalso, you can ask in #ubuntu or #xubuntu.. nothing about ubuntustudio's tools are specific to formatting drives18:20
