vbgunzI'm beating myself in the head. My mic works in Windows when I dual boot and it sounds flawless. On Kubuntu, it cracks no matter what the volume is for input unless I lower it so low, I can barely hear myself. How do I get rid of the crackling? the popping when I record? Any ideas?06:27

TahaanHmmmm, How does one use Quassel to connect to a Freenode channel, specifically Freenode #akregator?10:07
TahaanI figured it out.10:09
BluesKajHI all10:22
TahaanHello BluesKaj.10:47
TahaanEverybody is asleep10:47
TahaanIRC is where people go to ignore everybody10:47
Tahaan:-/10:47
BluesKajTahaan, have a little patience and don't take it personally10:48
BluesKajif you have a question , just ask10:48
TahaanI don't.  But IRC isn't what it used to be10:49
BluesKajkubuntu support question that is10:49
BluesKajif you want to just chat then you can join klbuntu-offtopic10:50
TahaanNo this is just the default place Quassel dropped me I was looking for Freenode #akregator to get support on an akregator issue10:51
TahaanBut alas over yonder it is only the mold that is growing.10:52
BluesKajthe click on the #akregator10:52
BluesKajthen10:52
TahaanCan someone explain to me how Kubuntu IRC is related to Freenode.10:52
TahaanWhen I did a register request the mail message arrived from Freenode.10:53
BluesKajkubuntu is a support channel on freenode server which is an IRC server10:53
TahaanQuassel appears to offer them as separate network options.10:54
TahaanBut... they seem to be the same thing10:54
BluesKajkubuntu irc is the default server but it's actually linked to freenode server10:55
BluesKajI just change it to freenode10:55
TahaanMy understanding is that Freenode and Kubuntu IRC are two IRC networks each having many servers... from the looks of it they are the same network10:57
tumor130holloou10:57
TahaanSeems to have exactly the same people logged in, same channel list, etc.10:57
BluesKajTahaan, afaik they are one and the same10:57
yofelTahaan: kubuntu irc is an alias for freenode10:57
TahaanYofel that explains it.10:58
BluesKajthanks yofel , you came up with right word , otherwise this conversation was going offtopic very quickly10:59
yofelheh10:59
TahaanWhat's the right place for talking about talking on IRC?11:00
lordievaderTahaan: #kubuntu-offtopic, for example.11:02
BluesKajdunno , never gave that much thought11:03
BluesKajTahaan, if you have a peticular question about kubuntu apps like quassel then that qualifies as ontopic here11:04
TahaanThankx Blue11:04
BluesKajparticular question11:04
TahaanI'll ask my akregator question here there:11:05
TahaanMy akregator is misbehaving.  Specifically it doesn't mark articles as read in some subscriptions11:05
TahaanThis is right now the problem with two subscriptions.11:05
TahaanAll the other subscriptions work.11:06
TahaanThey used to work but recently stopped working.11:06
TahaanSo I still get new articles in these two, but the number of unread articles can not be brought down to zero11:06
TahaanI have too many feeds/subscriptions.  Organized into folders and subfolders that makes sense to me11:06
TahaanBut in any case I go through the new articles a few times a day.  In the past I could just press + to progress through all the new/unread articles.11:06
TahaanThe + behaviour is such that it will not progress out of a subscription when there is still some unread articles in that subscription.11:06
TahaanWhich means when I hit either of the two subscritions which currently stays unread, I need to reach for the mouse, click on another feed and then I can progress from there again.11:07
BluesKajhmm  hope I didn't mislead you , but that is a very specialized question about akregator and it would probly be best to ask there , just click here , #akregator11:09
TahaanOK, A Kubuntu specific question.11:13
TahaanI am about ready to upgrade to 13.0411:14
TahaanHow does the upgrade process handle non-default software sources.  I have a handfull of PPAs I've added for, eg Gimp, Virtualbox, KDE backports, etc.11:15
jussiTahaan: it disables the ppa's by default, you need to re add them next release if they are still needed11:18
TahaanWhat happens to installed packages/software from those PPAs?11:19
TahaanSecond separate question:  I always delay upgrading to a new major version of *buntu by about a month.  I need to get my work done.  So by now I expect there will be quite a few updates and my experience should be good with 13.0411:21
TahaanIs there anywhere that I can get a list of updates released for a specific [K]Ubuntu distribution?11:22
TahaanI use Linux as desktop operating system but Unix sys admin is my dayjob.  What I'm trying to say is I read the release notes, the "known issues" lists etc.  I study the installation guides before I install something.  Linux have a long way yet to come in terms of maturity of documentation, but it is getting better every day.11:23

BluesKajTahaan, well I was about to suggest the release notes , but it looks to me like you the available documentation covered already11:26
BluesKajhi m_tadeu11:26
m_tadeuI need some help with my bluetooth headset11:41
m_tadeuI don't get any sound from it11:41
BluesKajhmm, not much experience with bluetooth audio , but does the device show up in lsusb , assuming the transceiver is a USB device11:43
leandrosansilvaHello. Can I find any kubuntu-ppa people here?11:44
leandrosansilvaor I have to use another channel11:44
leandrosansilva?11:44
BluesKajleandrosansilva, try #kubuntu-devel11:44
m_tadeuBluesKaj: eveerything seems to be working ok...the headset is paired with my laptop...kmix shows the sound levels for the headset....but no sound11:45
leandrosansilvaBluesKaj, thx11:46
BluesKajm_tadeu, check your audio levels in alsamixer11:46
m_tadeudon't show up11:47
TahaanDoesn't look like there are release notes for _K_ubuntu... and the release notes for _U_buntu talks about Gnome and Unity related software for the most part.11:48
m_tadeuBluesKaj: they show up11:49
BluesKajthey?11:51
TahaanOK, here is another question about the upgrade process.  Can I interrupt the process and resume it later?11:53
TahaanIn particular can I pause and resume the download of the new packages.11:53
TahaanThis stems from me being on the slow side of the internet divide11:53
TahaanI also don't want to not be able to use my computer for hours.11:54
TahaanSo if I could first just download everything, then as a separate step start the upgrade procedure that would be great.11:55
m_tadeuBluesKaj: the volume controls11:56
BluesKajTahaan, in a word no , upgrading can't be interrupted it will break the install11:57
BluesKajm_tadeu, make sure there no M in the vol ctrl boxes , use the M key to unmute them11:59
TahaanOK, it might be worth setting up a VM running an APT proxy, then cloning my desktop to another VM, upgrading that using the proxy to cache the packages, testing to make sure all is OK, and then when I'm ready I can use that same APT cache to upgrade my desktop without having to download msot packages again.11:59

madconquerorHi everybody. I upgraded from 12.04 to 13.04 (accidentally, it was late...). I have a dual monitor setup (one via HDMI, the other via DVI). I am able to boot up fine, but after I enter my pw, the screen goes black and I'm left with a (live) mouse cursor. When I disconnect the DVI monitor, I am able to log in.19:15
madconquerorI have absolutely no luck with google on this. Can someone please tell me how to boot and log in to Kubuntu in verbose mode, so I can see where it gets stuck?19:16
madconqueroron a sidenote, it is possible to connect and configure the monitor after login.19:17
infgood morning. is there any way to setup multi-pv LVM (did it with KDE Partition Manager and standard vgcreate .. method already, but "official" method would be appreciated) and install kubuntu 13.04 on a (encrypted if possible) logical volume? if that's not supported, is there any way to force installer to use specific block device to install OS on? (/dev/mapper/vg-logicalvolume)19:57
infreally, no LVM users there? :)20:12
infokay, solved, basically - created LVs show up in installer partition selection dialog. :)20:17
