NickGHey, so I got a problem that I'm not too sure how to fix13:10
NickGUbuntu Studio was working great last night when I turned it off, and now when I turn it on, I get my wallpaper.  No panels, no right click menu to launch terminal13:11
NickGHalf the time when I boot into it I get my bottom panel (it has my window list, show desktop, workspace switcher), but even though the height of it is set to 24px, it spans the entire height of my screen, blocking out any ability to launch any programs13:12
NickGLuckily when I booted this time it launched chrome automatically13:12
zequenceNickG: Maybe user settings for XFCE are corrupted13:13
NickGHow would I resolve?13:14
NickGI can Alt-F2 to launch programs13:14
zequencethe files you might want to remove are either in ~/.cache, ~/.config or some place like that13:15
zequenceonce you've removed them, logging in will create default onesw13:15
NickGoh, I should be able to launch nautilus13:15
NickGits not letting me launch nautilus13:17
OvenWerksthunar maybe?13:17
NickGSo, if I launch from my USB device and remove everything from ~/.cache and ~/.config it should work?13:17
NickGoh right13:17
NickGYup, I forgot I didnt install nautilus13:17
NickGSo in my cache there are a bunch of folders for like compiz, mozilla, fontconfig, nothing is going to be damaged by me removing them, right?13:18
OvenWerkslook for the xfce folder.13:19
cfhowlettNickG, they'll reset when you log in again.  Damage?  no.  Lose all preferences/settings?  oh, yeah.13:19
NickGthe only thing in there is a folder called xfce4-appfinder, its the thing I used to launch thunar.13:19
NickGOk, so I've got that done, now how would I log out from here?13:20
cfhowlettNickG, sudo reboot13:21
NickGAlso cleared out the .config folder13:21
NickGok13:21
zequencethere's also ~/.local13:23
NickG_SUCCESS!13:25
NickG_Thank you, now I just need to reconfigure my panels.13:25
NickG_Why am I still in here?13:25
NickG_hah theres two of me13:25
cubit probably has not timed out yet13:25
cubthere.13:26
zequenceI read somewhere that shutdown is preferrable to reboot, as shutdown does it more correctlyu13:28
zequencesudo shutdown -r13:28
zequencesudo shutdown -r now13:28
zequence..will reboot the computer13:28
cubNickG_, I read the log from yesterday about local installation of Wordpress and apache issue. Maybe now is not a good time though?13:29
NickG_?13:29
NickG_Regarding when I had apache setup on my computer?13:30
cubzequenceNickG: I think to begin with, if you just want to play around yourself, maybe you only need a local WP instalation to mess around with the theme15:4913:30
cubNickGI haven't managed to get apache working correctly.  I mean I can set it up and isntall webmin (the control panel) but PHP doesn't work even after I install it.  I can't figure that one out.13:30
NickG_Yah13:30
NickG_I've got hosting elsewhere13:31
cubI also had problems with LAMP set up and change apache to nginx. Now I run several wp locally for development13:31
NickG_Just in my experience setting up my laptop as a local server, for some reason I could not get PHP running on it13:31
NickG_Ahh13:31
NickG_Problem with Apache?13:32
NickG_or Apache > PHP13:32
cubyou could try with nginx instead then. Seemed easier to get it working. Now I also have set the site-directory on UbuntuOne so I can continue to work on any of my laptops13:32
NickG_That's an idea.13:33
cubI'm not sure exactly where the problem was, but it never worked alright for me.13:33
cubso I switched.13:33
NickG_See I develop HTML and PHP, and my HTML page I put in my WWW folder came up when typing my IP in the address bar, but any PHP script just showed up as the code13:34
NickG_and I had linked it to the apache/php5 modules as well as usr/bin/php513:34
NickG_neither worked13:34
NickG_Maybe it was a webmin problem for me13:34
cubdid it work when you put the exact address in as localhost/file.php ?13:34
NickG_no13:34
cubok13:35
NickG_it was a PHP config problem I guess, maybe I missed an install package13:35
cubI started a tutorial for setting up LEMP with Wordpress but as usual have not finished it due to time13:35
NickG_time is a funny thing eh13:35
NickG_I've got hosting with Doteasy and actually host my nickgermaine.ca there, I can do a like... ubuntustudio.nickgermaine.ca installation to play around with13:36
cubyeah13:36
NickG_I've got the FTP info here somewhere I'll just download the theme and isntall it in that installation13:36
cubI need to do most of my "own" work while commuting so I needed local installations13:36
NickG_yah, I thought it would be easier to place things in a local directory rather than FTP in.13:37
NickG_It's not so bad with HTML because you can run HTML locally from any directory, but PHP is server side, hence the problem with testing13:37
NickG_and my intent to setup a local server lol13:37
cubI'll see if I can get my tutorial done tomorrow. There's a royal wedding in Sweden tomorrow so I suppose my girlfriend will be occupied elsewhere..:P13:38
NickG_right on, link me up with it.  Do you have a blog?13:38
cubwww.sjolund.se13:38
NickG_Good stuff.  I actually wrote a tutorial on installation specs, because I was getting a No Operating System found when booting from USB.  Turns out its because my USB was formatted as NTFS instead of FAT3213:40
NickG_Your site looks a lot like mine, got blog, music, videos, etc.13:43
NickG_Is that your music?13:43
cubyes, the plan was to use the site only for music….but I don't do that much music so13:43
zequencecub: Ah, you're Jimmy13:43
NickG_Nice, I'm listening to one now.13:44
cubAha, perhaps I never made that clear?13:44
NickG_Check out www.nickgermaine.ca I've got some stuff up there13:44
zequenceI'm not very good with names anyhow13:44
cubI used to have cub.se for my music but then I company made me an offer I couldn't refuse for the domain13:45
cubNickG_, you've made three albums?!13:46
NickG_I've made 6 actually13:46
NickG_look at www.nockoutrecordings.com13:46
NickG_the nickgermaine.ca is still a work in progress13:46
NickG_adding more today13:46
cubwow13:46
NickG_nothings streaming on there yet, but www.soundcloud.com/nick-germaine has a lot of them13:47
cubcool13:48
cubOoh Hurt…I have an idea about a cover version of that too, but again, no time.13:50
NickG_That's a great song.13:50
NickG_I had an idea for an album that I'm working on solely in Ubuntu Studio, it's going to be the first open source musical project.13:51
NickG_Basically, not only provide all 12-16 tracks for the album, but for each track there will be a compressed archive with each track of that song (drums, strings, guitar, piano, vocals).  Mainly to inspire remix artists and give them resources for free13:52
cubgood idea!13:55
cubI couldn't make my sound card work with US until last year, and then I got a baby so it's mostly collecting dust13:55
NickG_Yah.  I find I make less music now that I have a family, but its worth it.  I'll get to it eventually, but I'm also trying to build a company with my wife.13:56
NickG_Time is stretched these days13:56
OvenWerksNickG_: to test local stuff you have to look at http://localhost/some/dir/file.ext13:57
NickG_I know13:57
NickG_That's what I had been doing, and it worked, but PHP did not work13:57
OvenWerksYa that would be server steup13:57
cubtime to get going, but I give you a ping if I manage to finish the tutorial this weekend13:58
NickG_I used localhost, my machine name as well as my NAT ip, and they all brought up items from the WWW directory and displayed in my browser, but PHP code was rendering just as PHP code, and not what it was supposed to be doing.13:58
NickG_I'll make another attempt at some point13:59
OvenWerksWorks here, but then I did a ubuntuserver install on an older machine.13:59
NickG_I gotta run too, heading out with the family.  Have a good one you guys13:59
