[13:50] ello! i'm using lubuntu in a Mac G5 and trying to install googleearth-package, i generated the deb file but when try to install i get the follow up error: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: ia32-libs-gtk [13:51] http://pastebin.com/H4B6tYv8 === jeanaustinr is now known as jeanaustinr|x [15:42] hello everytime i transfer files to usb it seems like i get a false reading [15:43] seems? [15:43] djono: try using grsync [15:43] !info grsync [15:43] grsync (source: grsync): GTK+ frontend for rsync. In component universe, is optional. Version 1.2.3-1ubuntu1 (raring), package size 147 kB, installed size 635 kB [15:43] *all* drives fail, so also consider trying other media [15:44] for example transfering a 300mb file to usb the prgress bar goes to 100 in seconds or sometimes instantly goes to 50 the slowly gets to 100 [15:46] also i cannot dual boot lubuntu with windows 7 on this new laptop. ive installed windows first but gparted doesnt recognize it [15:50] !dualboot [15:50] Dual boot instructions: x86/AMD64: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DualBoot/Windows - Macs: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro https://help.ubuntu.com/community/YabootConfigurationForMacintoshPowerPCsDualBoot [15:51] djono: i would just manually partition carefully, after making backups [15:51] djono: how did grsync work for you? [15:52] holstein. Im trying it after i install lubuntu. running live usb now. love ubuntu just hate this new system [15:52] djono: i would just manually partition.. as the windows channel for help about installing it [15:53] windows should be able to see and use an ntfs partition.. if not, you might have to backup the linux install, and install windows first [15:54] imma just use lubuntu and get rid of windows. havent used windows for 3 years. just wanna put it on for the wife. but who cares went this long without windows [15:54] holstein. would it be easier to dual but ubuntu? i think she ubuntu would be more fitting for her with the unity thing [15:56] ? [15:56] lubuntu *is* ubuntu [15:57] you can just install ubuntu and lxde, and have unity for the wife and lxde for you [15:57] you would select those at login.. [15:58] how about lxde and ubuntu? [16:00] djono: whats the question? [16:00] lubuntu is lxde and ubuntu [16:00] u said install ubutnu lxde. can install lubuntu the unity? [16:01] djono: you can do what you like.. its all the same repos [16:01] cool thanks holstein. this system came with windows 8 64 bit. i think of it as a ubuntu rip off [16:01] http://askubuntu.com/questions/110516/is-there-a-way-to-install-unity-or-gnome-shell-along-with-lubuntu [16:57] How do I restart whatever has broken and doesn't accept mouse clicks of any kind without closing the programs I have open? === TheLordO- is now known as TheLordOfTime|EC === TheLordOfTime|EC is now known as LordOfTime|EC2 === Guest17413 is now known as ArchBeOS [19:32] hey are there any touchpad tweaks? im index finger on the left button and scroll with the middle. but two fingers on this touchpad stops the pointer [21:24] hello! When I start my lubuntu, lxtask shows only ~500mb ram usage. However after 5-6 hours of internet browsing, it shows much more memory consumption (of course with everything closed) [21:25] You should be able to use lxtask, top, or htop to figure out what has taken up more ram. [21:25] what is more, if I add the ram (RSS in lxtask) that each process uses the result is not the same as the total ram used ! [21:25] Yeah, lxtask has some calculation errors, IIRC. [21:26] ok but the same happens with ubuntu's default system monitor :P [21:26] now I will try htop [21:31] nope no luck [21:31] i have closed everything except konversation and ram is 1300mb.. [21:32] if I browsed the internet for 4-5 days 1300mb would now be 4gb :P [21:33] Are you sorting by memory usage? It'll show you what's up. [21:33] I will check with another browser whether chrome has memroy problems [21:33] yes I am sorting with memory usage [21:33] Firefox does well in my case, and xombrero is nice as well. You could try to ps aux | grep chrom [21:35] no luck again [21:48] How do you make files executable in lubuntu? [21:49] Right click > Properties, or chmod +x file in a terminal. [21:49] Under properties, there is no optin to make files executable like their is in ubuntu [21:50] Could be in advanced [21:50] All I see if general and permissions [21:50] Yep, in Permissions. [21:50] don't see it [21:50] Closet thing I see is execute [21:50] that doesn't work [21:51] any ideas? [21:51] Worked for me... So, open a terminal and chmod +x file.ext [21:52] chmod +x and the files name? [21:53] That's what I said, yep. [21:53] !chmod [21:53] An explanation of what file permissions are and how they can be manipulated can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilePermissions [21:53] Cannot access file :/ === ArchBeOS is now known as enroxorz === enroxorz is now known as ArchBeOS === ArchBeOS is now known as enroxorz === enroxorz is now known as ArchBeOS
