cubAnyone that have used recordmydesktop frequently?11:46
zequencecub: Don't think so. I haven't seen anyone discussing it on here. It happens users talk about it13:10
zequencemight be people at #opensourcemusicians know something about it13:10
zequencecub: What are you finding problematic with it, btw?13:10
zequencecub: I'm a musician/composer by education, but right now studying to become a network technician - so currently a student, to answer your question from before13:11
zequencecub: How about yourself?13:11
cubI've had some trouble with recordmydesktop where it drops parts of the picture and so on, I then read some confusing stuff about how you shouldn't move windows while recording13:24
cuband I just wondered if someone had used it before and knew it that was the case. I have found several alternatives and will investigate them. Kdenlive seems to record directly so that would be perfect13:24
cubMyself I studied sound engineering in Haparanda, then worked some as audio tech before starting in different IT jobs13:25
cubthen moved over from server tech to project management, from there to service management where I am today13:31
cubI should be doing music and videos on my spare time, but it's hard to find that spare time. :D13:32
zequenceit can be, yes13:33
cubI've always played around with linux installations, then I settled down with Ubuntu and later Ubuntu Studio when I discovered it13:34
zequenceMy first try using Linux was with Red Hat around 2002 or something. But, didn't start really using Linux until around 200813:36
cubI used to run a small web design one-man-firm and might start it up again on the side. Also hoping to learn how to code, starting out with Python13:36
zequencegood old python13:36
zequencecub: But, you don't do a lot of php?13:36
cubI went to linux in 2004 to deal with some online gaming issues..I had to get away from Counter Strike and hence, no windows allowed.13:37
zequencehehe13:37
cubI have done some php, but only to fix certain things I wanted to change in wordpress or phpbb sites13:37
cubnever sat down to properly learn php13:37
zequencehow about other languages?13:37
cub10 print "Jimmy", 20 goto 1013:38
cubI never had the patience to learn any language expect BASIC in the 80s13:38
zequenceI'm self taught in a bunch of languages, but have only used python for anything real so far13:38
zequenceI do a bit of python/GTK13:38
cubaha13:38
zequenceI know enough about programming languages that I could do C, or C++ too13:39
cuba friend working at youtube recommended python to start out with to me13:39
zequenceI think any language will do, if you just find a use for it13:40
zequencewhat really teaches you is just doing it13:40
zequenceI learnt a lot by doing a lot of pure data13:40
zequenceit's not like a written language, but you learn how to thing in terms of programming13:40
cubyes, I have some ideas of apps I want to build but have no clue on how to do it.13:40
zequencestart out with something that is similar, and start changing it13:41
cubexactly13:42
zequencewell, if it's not too advanced13:42
cubI would like to port Freemind to python13:42
cuband then make an offline Kanban tool13:42
cubbuuut that's for later.13:42
cubso, why ubuntu studio? I think I saw somewhere that your main pc was running something else?13:42
zequenceI use Debian as my main OS13:43
zequenceI'm recently also a member of the Debian Multimedia Team, who packages just about everything we use in UBuntu Studio13:43
zequenceUbuntu Studio is probably the most widely used, multimedia based OS. It's the perfect first OS for someone wanting to use Linux for multimedia content creation13:44
zequenceIt's also a great place from where to have influence on the Linux multimedia community, or perhaps mostly, the Linux audio community13:45
cubDo you have any statistics on how many users or downloads there are?13:45
zequenceI don't13:45
zequenceBeen meaning to get some data from Ubuntu people13:46
zequenceon how much people download our ISOs13:46
zequencewe're definatly the least used among the other established flavors13:46
zequencedefinitely*13:46
cubIt's hard though. Myself have downloaded several ISOs many times and then one might do one download and several installations13:46
zequencethe other Ubuntu flavors, that is13:47
zequenceyou can compare our downloads with other flavors though13:47
zequenceThere is some people wanting to put together something similar to Ubuntu Studio meta packages in Debian now13:48
zequenceBut, apart from that, what's great about Ubuntu Studio is that it's focused13:48
zequencelike a product13:48
zequenceDebian is more of a library of applications13:49
cubI think KXStudio is moving over to Debian as well13:49
zequencefalkx has been talking about it13:49
zequencemostly because of recent animosity against Canonical13:49
cubyup13:49
zequencebut, that IMO is not something that has any effect on how KXstudio is distributed13:50
cubWho do you mena?13:50
cubmean13:50
zequenceI mean, what Canonical does has no effect on KXStudio13:51
cubah13:51
zequenceas long as we, the community have the freedom to do our work, the Ubuntu flavor, which is of course designed by Canonical, can be regarded just like any flavor13:52
zequenceKXStudio is not a big community project. It's mostly falktx, and he13:52
zequencehe's never been interested in making changed in Ubuntu repos13:52
zequenceor Debian repos13:52
cubYes, that's what kept me off using some other projects. There was only one guy doing everything13:53
cubso what happens when they don't have the time or doesn't feel like moving things forward anymore13:53
zequenceThere are some advantages to KXStudio, and one of them is the inclusion of applications with hazy licenses13:54
zequencesomething that doesn't happen easily on Ubuntu13:54
zequenceor Debian13:54
zequencethat would be a certain amount of packages, that one person could just maintain on a PPA13:55
zequencethen there's updates to older releases13:55
zequencefinally, there are cases where KXStudio applications are rebuilt to overcome some problem, a bug. 13:55
zequencepackaging bugs are not reported upstream to Debian or Ubuntu13:56
zequenceapplication bugs are of course reported to the application developer, and those fixes also end up in Debian and Ubuntu over time13:56
cubso they might not get fixed unless someone else reports it13:56
zequencejust not in the flash of a moment13:56
zequencefalktx is not concerned with co-operating with Debian and Ubuntud devs. Only application devs. 13:57
zequenceI'd like for fixes to end up in Debian, Ubuntu and all of their derivatives13:57
zequenceI'd like for the user being able to do the same thing on any Debian derived distro without too much work, especially Debian13:58
zequencebut, also Ubuntu, and therefore Ubuntu Studio13:58
zequenceIf we make Ubuntu Studio work really well for multimedia content creation, that will of course make people want to use it13:59
zequenceBut, why stop there?13:59
cubWorld domination?14:02
zequencelol14:02
zequenceIt makes sense to fix things upstream, so that you don't need to do it locally yourself14:02
cubyes, since it kind of depends on upstream anyway14:03
DarkEragood afternoon guys14:48
zequenceDarkEra: hi14:50
DarkEraheya zequence :)14:50
DarkErai love 13.04. It's a real pleasure to work with it. Having two track in the work at the moment14:51

DarkEracool :)15:36
NickGhttps://soundcloud.com/nick-germaine/sickness-feat-dien2live15:36
NickGone of my new ones.  A lot of people has a huge misconception about hip hop music.  A lot think it's all about guns, drugs and that kinda stuff.  I just use it as an art form to convey my thoughts15:37
DarkEralistening to it now15:37
NickGgood stuff15:37
NickGthat one was actually made in LMMS15:37
NickGand Ardour15:37
DarkErawow, very cool! I like it15:38
NickGthank you15:38
DarkErasorry for the delay, had a phonecall15:43

zequenceWish I could rap15:53
zequencemy mouth is too slow15:53
DarkErasame here15:53
zequenceMaybe slow doomy rap would work?15:53
DarkEragotta say, he's got talent for sure15:53
zequenceIt sounds right15:54
DarkErazequence, lol at slow doomy rap :D15:54
zequenceFrankenstein rap15:55
DarkErahahaha15:55
zequenceNickG: Not bad at all. The voice is great, but maybe the music could be fattened up a bit?15:56
zequenceI don't have much up, but this is something I did with puredata. the music is generated through pure data programming http://soundcloud.com/zequence/autopoiesis-000000115:58
zequenceI did post processing to the file, so not all done in programming, but you could do it all with the program too15:58
DarkEracool stuff!16:01
DarkErahmmm... looks like NickG is lost in a musical universe16:03
DarkErai will be for sure tonight when i continue to work on my track16:03
NickGhah I am busy with school, we homeschool our children16:26
NickGI have them listening to classical music, one writing a book report and the other practicing writing.16:27
zequenceNickG: Why do you homeschool them?16:29
NickGbrb16:29
zequenceCan't do that around here. We have laws that enforces kids to go to school16:30
NickGWe have laws too.  But none specifically stating children to attend public school.16:31
NickGWe homeschool a few reasons.  First, you are in complete control of what they learn.  Second, you are in complete control of how they learn.  By homeschooling, we are two teachers with two students, as opposed to 1 teacher with 30 students.  It provides more 1-on-1 time and individualized learning.  In public school, they teach something one way and if you don't get it, too bad.  We have the ability to teach in different ways16:33
NickGI was homeschooled as well.  I was allowed to choose what I learn, so I began HTML and CSS programming at 15.  I began making music at 14, and built my first computer at 14 as well.  16:33
zequenceI wouldn't say school was my major source of education on some fields16:34
zequencebut, it's a lot more than just education16:34
zequenceit has a social aspect as well16:34
NickGYeah, but I still had my friends from before I was homeschooled, and there are other social events.16:35
zequenceas long as the kids get what they need, I guess16:35
NickGA lot of people associate school with learning, and in turn associate the ending of high school with the ending of the need to learn.  And that's part of the problem with society.16:35
NickGI got the meta fields under each post changed darker as well.  I think it's too dark, but let me know what you think http://us.nickgermaine.ca16:52
zequenceNickG: a bit too dark yes. I see you made the text in the front tabs larger. Looks ok. I'd still like the other text to be a little larger too17:10
zequenceI also don't really like how the different header sizes are17:13
zequenceh1, h2, h3, etc17:13
zequenceNickG: The size on this page, directly under "Community" looks right to me17:21
zequencesmaller sized are better suited for news articles, etc17:21
zequencewell, not for our "news", but if you know what I mean17:21
zequencesizes*17:21
DarkEraheya madeinkobaia :)17:25
DarkErahow are you buddy?17:26
madeinkobaiaHey DarkEra ! I am great !17:26
madeinkobaiaAnd you ?17:26
DarkEragood to 'hear'17:26
DarkErai'm doing fine, thanks17:26
madeinkobaiaGreat, what's new ?17:28
madeinkobaiaDarkEra : ^ ;)17:33
DarkEramadeinkobaia, working on another track in the nighttime. Daytime is for my family :)17:34
madeinkobaiaCool, thats a good planning.17:34
NickGI haven't played around with the header sizes, but I'll look at them and make appropriate changes.17:46
NickGNot sure if it might be a browser thing, I'm on Firefox, but the fonts on the community page look exactly like the font sizes for content everywhere else on the site.17:48
cubzequence, when you have used Virtualbox, have you set the guests to be a specific size?19:39
cubscreen resolution wise I mean. I would like my vbox to be exactly 1280x720, but it disagrees with me19:40
