[13:56] jandrusk: no, English yeoman archer attack === msy is now known as yano [19:27] dzho: The knee isn't a ball joint. [19:27] It's a hinge. [19:28] shoulders are ball joints. hips are ball joints. [19:30] canthus13: but cars have ball joints [19:31] hinge joints too, I suppose, but one usually just says "hinge" [19:31] I guess what I was thinking is "knees and ball joins are both joints" [19:33] ah. [22:30] We got hit the same night in Indiana. [22:30] Yay weather. Thankfully the tornado that formed was on the other end of the county [22:57] so, anyone giving 13.04 a shot? [22:58] * Unit193 is already on it, not sure if he wishes he wasn't. [22:58] i decided to give vanilla 13.04 desktop a shot... [22:58] which version/"flavor"? [22:59] Xubuntu mainly, one Lubuntu. [23:01] Some things are fixed, some are horribly broken. [23:01] But you should be good. [23:05] i grabbed xubuntu too...have one kid using it [23:05] thought i'd give unity another shot [23:07] I'd give it buckshot... [23:11] lol, really? [23:11] have you tried it as of 13.04? [23:12] I haven't tried it as of 12.04. [23:12] it does perform a bit better... [23:12] but only with proprietary nvidia drivers [23:12] when i was using noveau, it was kinda slow to do any of the animations [23:13] It'd crash and burn on this computer, the other computer I don't really use (the others do) should be able to handle it, but I as much of an intention to put Unity on it as I do Windows 8. [23:13] meh, I'll probably end up with xubuntu, but i wanted to see how it's changed [23:13] ha [23:13] Oh sure, you're free to use it. :P [23:14] It'd annoy me only a little less, I like "classic" desktops. I never liked Gnome anyway. [23:14] i *do* hate their software center though...gah...it's crap, half the time doesn't seem to even work for me [23:15] ah, well this machine i just re-installed had kubuntu on it...and i was getting sick of kde [23:15] Software Center? I just found out this morning the icon is purple, I'm very, very fast to purge that thing. [23:15] Upgrade purge list: http://paste.openstack.org/show/QMHMpdXVSB22GQ2B5L06 [23:15] or whatever it's called [23:15] [ Paste #QMHMpdXVSB22GQ2B5L06 | LodgeIt! ] - http://j.mp/11f5Mj0 [23:16] well, I only opened it up cause I wanted to try installing steam [23:16] and I couldn't install it with apt-get apparently [23:17] so on xubuntu, does it do things like mounting media under /media/username/diskname? [23:18] Yes. [23:19] interesting...there's little things like that that stand out to me...not that i care one way or the other [23:19] just things I notice [23:19] i could see how that could be useful for machines with multiple users logging into it at the same time [23:19] * Unit193 uses terminal a lot... But only have 4 open now (all of which are running screen.) [23:20] Kernel wouldn't hold a longer uptime than 2 days for me, and graphics really took a dump down the drain for me, which also screws up flash. [23:21] really? your box is that unstable? [23:22] that sucks [23:22] well, 12.04, for being a "LTS", was never as stable as I expected it should be [23:22] Flash worked, graphics worked better and kernel worked better in Quantal. I compiled my own kernel and it's fine now. [23:22] haha [23:22] man, I haven't done that in years... [23:23] Flash and graphics stinks, but kernel can hold an uptime. Liquorix also works, but not stock Ubuntu kernels. [23:23] probably the last time was when I had a new 3ware card that wasn't supported by the debian installer :/ [23:24] well, gotta go pick up pizza... [23:24] bbl [23:24] Sweet, good choice. [23:25] Just means I get a Linux Sigma 3.9.5-u193 uname. :D [23:25] Hmmmm.... .6 is out, and liquorix -6 is already installed. [23:27] So far Xubuntu 13.04 hasn't exploded on my netbook. The BeagleBoard stays at Xubuntu 12.04 for the moment. The RPi stays on Raspbian CURRENT for the moment. [23:28] (Note, I do have some custom packages, but nothing that would cause issues like what I'm having, and they were added after.) [23:28] Netbook seems to like 13.04 just fine. === ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu-us-oh to: Welcome to the IRC home of Ubuntu Ohio! | Business Meeting on 2013-06-18 at 1930 Eastern/2330 UTC in this channel | Meeting agenda with link to slides: http://tx0.org/62f
