smartboyhwzequence, I want to post http://paste.ubuntu.com/5770487/ in my blog, so please review it:P10:23
zequenceis mate available for Ubuntu?10:26
zequenceI've never checked10:26
smartboyhwzequence, dunno:P But OvenWerks said that the menu just can't fit in there...10:27
zequenceHe might have been testing Mint10:27
smartboyhwYeah though10:27
zequenceWe aren't designing an application to choose between DEs10:28
zequenceit would just be an addition to the ubiquity installer (haven't yet checked how that works, but should be rather straight forward)10:29
smartboyhwzequence, OK10:29
smartboyhwOur plan is to make an extension in ubiquity where users can choose whatever DE they want to use. Our live ISO will still include Xfce as the default desktop (and probably we will install it along with the user's DE of choice alongside so there's a backup solution), but we will give the users a convenient choice for using KDE or Unity.10:30
smartboyhwIs that OK?10:30
zequencesure10:30
smartboyhwzequence, can I post it now?10:30
zequenceI'd be bloggin about this myself, or announcing our plans on Ubuntu Studio news, but haven't since very little is decided yet10:31
zequenceI can't spot any other errors right now10:31
smartboyhwzequence, OK. Posting it now...10:32
zequenceIn general terms, one could say, we're exploring the way we could support multiple DEs10:32
OvenWerkszequence: (and anyone else) I would suggest that we only suport a DE if there is at least one person who is willing to support/keep up to date/test that DE.14:01
OvenWerksXFCE should remain the supported by the whole team.14:02
OvenWerksbut other DEs should have one person each to keep them up (at least)14:02
* smartboyhw keeps KDE since he is a Kubuntu member 14:03
smartboyhwAnd a packager too (now bumbling about some stupid Krita code)14:03
OvenWerksBy DEs, I mean DE metas we ship as opposed DEs we expect people to install our metas into.14:03
OvenWerkssmartboyhw: our menu package just works with KDE. KDE is the only DE that has gotten it right14:05
smartboyhwOvenWerks, \o/14:05
OvenWerksAll of the other DEs do the menu merging at the wrong time.14:05
* OvenWerks is just playing with lubuntu right now.14:06
smartboyhwOvenWerks, zequence do you think it will take a much longer time to test DE testcases before milestone releases?14:06
OvenWerksAnother boot...14:06
smartboyhwMaybe let me try to do some ISo testing now...14:07
OvenWerkssmartboyhw: I am thinking that for other DEs it would be nice to come up with an icon/logo that is half of the DE logo and half ours14:08
smartboyhwOvenWerks, !?14:08
smartboyhwWe are making another distribution then if so14:09
OvenWerksLike the KDE logo is round and ours is round... so take half of each.14:09
smartboyhwOvenWerks, sure but GNOME?14:09
smartboyhwHalf-foot!?14:09
smartboyhwUnity even?14:09
OvenWerkscool14:09
* smartboyhw doesn't even think that Unity has a logo, IIRC.14:09
OvenWerksIt just uses the ubuntu cof14:10
OvenWerksYa and which end of the mouse do we use?14:11
smartboyhw?!14:11
OvenWerksmaybe that is not such a great idea14:11
OvenWerksThe mouse is xubuntu14:11
smartboyhwYeah...14:11
smartboyhwHmm, the -minimal thing doesn't exist for Kubuntu...14:11
OvenWerksShouldn't be to hard to make one though14:12
OvenWerksThe big thing would be to remove libre office14:12
smartboyhwMaybe we actually have..14:12
OvenWerksStudio already ships a lot of the KDE DE from pulling in kdenlive14:13
* smartboyhw is asking in #kubuntu-devel14:13
smartboyhwOvenWerks, that's true.14:13
* OvenWerks will probably end up running KDE on his personal machine.14:14
smartboyhwOvenWerks, we have kde-base for minimal.14:14
smartboyhw;)14:14
OvenWerksCool. Is that one of the seeds?14:15
smartboyhwOr kde-standards14:16
smartboyhwOvenWerks, not exactly14:16
OvenWerksmeta then.14:16
OvenWerksAll you need is the debian/control file14:16
OvenWerksThe list of depends will be in there14:17
smartboyhwOvenWerks, the source package is meta-kde.14:18
smartboyhwI think kde-standard should be good enough14:19
OvenWerksShould be easy to drop the stuff into a seed... or just make that package the whole seed :)14:20
OvenWerksWhat happens if you install that meta on top of Studio?14:21
smartboyhwOvenWerks, it gets you a very basic desktop with the kde *utilities* only.14:21
smartboyhwIt doesn't include apps like krita or calligra or kdenlive14:21
smartboyhwBasically, a very bare KDE14:22
OvenWerksThat shouldn't matter, because we ship all that stuff anyway14:22
OvenWerksRemember that the whole xfce stuff is already installed...14:23
smartboyhwYeah14:23
OvenWerksTime to do bug reports :)14:24
smartboyhw:)14:24
OvenWerkslubuntu bug done... now for lxlauncher and lxmenu-data14:48
smartboyhwOvenWerks, where's the bug?14:48
* smartboyhw would be willing to tell the Lubuntu people14:48
OvenWerksBug #119152714:49
ubottubug 1191527 in lubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) "Menu config files merge menus from standard locations too soon so defaults override merges." [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/119152714:49
zequenceOvenWerks: artwork would fall into madeinkobaias department, so any ideas should be passed along to him14:56
zequenceUntil said otherwise, our XFCE based desktop is default14:56
zequenceright now, we have nothing else. We're just looking at the possibilities, so nothing to really make decisions on, I think14:57
OvenWerksnext time he is on I will ask. We have to look at manpower first of course and as you say xfce comes first14:57
zequenceDepends very much on how we enable the other DEs14:57
zequencemight be as simple as running a script to update all of them for each new release14:58
OvenWerksls14:58
OvenWerksoops wrong window14:58
OvenWerkscould be.15:02
OvenWerksThe extra artwork would take more time though15:02
OvenWerksmicahg: I have been redoing ubuntustudio-menu from the ground up. I have been uploading snapshots to my own ppa for testing. With BZR I have been doing lots of commits.16:47
OvenWerksI can upload all of the commits or I can rebranch and just move all of the changes in in one lump as a starting point.16:48
OvenWerkswhich is better?16:48
OvenWerksWhat the branch looks like is https://code.launchpad.net/~len-ovenwerks/+junk/ubuntustudio-menu16:54
micahgOvenWerks: you can merge the whole branch in if you like, it'll show up as one commit in the main listing, but you can drill down into the merged commits as well17:32
zequencemicahg: we really need to get ubuntustudio-controls out of the repo17:40
zequenceI always forget about it17:40
zequenceit hasn't been doing anything useful I think for 3 years or so :P17:41
zequencewell, maybe for firewire a little less than that17:41
micahgzequence: file a removal request and subscribe sponsors or ping me17:42
zequencemicahg: Is that like a bug?17:42
micahgyes17:42
zequenceok, thanks17:42
madeinkobaiaHi all, for those who are concerned, I actually testing a new banner for our social sites. You can have a live preview of the actual project banner on my g+ page : https://plus.google.com/u/0/112937756282972852089/posts any feedbacks are welcome.19:32
OvenWerksmicahg: Thank you. It is not quite ready yet... I keep finding things I don't like. 22:24
OvenWerkszequence: Just found out how much you can put into a video machine: http://www.supermicro.com/products/nfo/Maximus.cfm Thats 5 GPUs in one machine. Oh and I think the two cpus are 8 cores a piece. These guys seem to have some of the lowest latency MB around (according to the RT test site). I may buy one of the lower priced ones when I have the resources to upgrade.22:28
NoskcajOvenWerks, use it for folding22:30
OvenWerksFolding?22:32
OvenWerksFrom what I read one of the GPUs is the actual video output and the other four are extra rendering processors22:33
OvenWerksIt is more than I want/need.22:34
OvenWerksI will be looking for something with Intel graphics so I can use free drivers.22:35
OvenWerksI know they are not "the best", but better than anything I have and more than I need for my uses.22:35
