[07:32] hello [09:50] ...any ppc people here? [09:51] Guest61362, ppc? We never made Ubuntu Studio for powerpc. Go to #ubuntu-powerpc :) [09:51] thanks [10:53] <---running studio with the no latency option...nice and smooth [10:55] on ppc? [10:59] nope...on a Dell Inspirion XPS 435 [10:59] i7 with 12 GB RAM [11:00] ,--I want to have both "Studios" networked [11:00] I have an old imac, it would be awesome to get ubuntu studio on it. :P [11:01] well there is ubuntu 12.04 ppc...you just use synaptic to upgrade....so they say [11:01] I'm not sure the imac will manage that. :P [11:02] but I did run some old fedora on years ago [11:02] but I can't get the geoforce 6600 to present a GUI...Ijust ge the black screen are I boot [11:02] <---has a mac g5 [11:03] there are videos on youtube showing how to install ubuntu and fedora on macbooks and related platforms [11:03] yeah I was looking into installing Debian wheezy, but have had time for it so far [11:05] I don't like doing the "upgrade over the internet" stuff anyway...your system is unstable unless you are very careful [11:06] I have had problems getting classic mac os's to work as well...i have tiger 10.48 upgraded to 10.4.11 [11:07] and a harddrive I got on eBay messed up [12:43] Hello. I have 2 audio cards (CA0106 and ALC1200) and 5.1 speakers. CA0106 sometimes starts randomly speed up audio and ALC1200 doesn't support 5.1 audio. How do I fix something of it? [15:44] columb: what are you using to support the 2 cards? [15:44] columb: i would probably try the main ubuntu channel, or maybe the myth channel [15:45] we are really more about creating content.. though, if i can help i will [15:45] using multiple cards is not ideal [15:45] Already tried #ubuntu. [15:45] columb: so, you "tried" #ubuntu? [15:45] and then came here? [15:45] Yep. [15:45] how about the main ubuntu mailing list? [15:46] how about the myth channel? [15:46] how about elaborating right here in this channel? [15:46] !detais [15:46] !details [15:46] Please give us full details. For example: "I have a problem with ..., I'm running Ubuntu version .... When I try to do ..., I get the following output: ..., but I expected it to do ..." [15:46] Ubuntu is 12.04 LTS. Seems like I provided other info. [15:46] sure [15:47] i'll just ask my specific question agin [15:47] again* [15:47] no problem [15:47] columb: how are you supporting the 2 cards? with pulseaudio? [15:48] Installed ubuntu like 2 days ago. I guess they are supported by alsa. [15:48] columb: confirm that you are using pulse or not [15:48] How do I know it? [15:48] columb: share with me how you are using and configuring the 2 seperate sound cards [15:48] !pulse [15:48] PulseAudio is a sound server intended as a drop-in replacement for !ESD - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio for information and installation instructions [15:48] pulse audio is another community that could be providing you with suport [15:49] what do i suggest? [15:49] i would remove one card, and just do stereo [15:49] keep it simple for now [15:49] Right now I'm on stereo. It works... But I would like to use 5.1... [15:50] columb: sure, and im sure you will learn to suppor it, or purchase hardware that provides better linux support [15:51] otherwise, confirm you are using pulse and check https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio and have in mind *exactly* what you would like to do [15:51] for example, are you wanting to split the 5.1 signal from some software and route it to the 2 cards? [15:53] There is no need to use both cards. I purchased second a while ago for better sound quality. All I want is working 5.1 speakers on any of my cards. [15:54] columb: if one of the cards has 5.1 output, plug it in.. i would remove the other cards you are not going to use [15:54] It's built-in. [15:54] it? [15:54] which? [15:54] you mentioned 2 devices? correct? [15:54] Yes. [15:54] 2 sound cards? [15:54] One of them is built-in. [15:55] ALC1200. [15:55] columb: so, remove the other one.. and use the built in [15:55] But it does not support 5.1 :( [15:55] so, disable the onboard in the bios, and use the 5.1 one [15:55] though, you dont know that 5.1 is supported on the device [15:55] columb: does the vendor support linux? [15:56] CA0106. There are a dozen of topics on ubuntu forums with issues with this card. [15:56] But it do support 5.1 audio. [15:57] No idea about vendor support. [15:57] columb: do they provide linux support? [15:57] columb: then, it may not work with linux.. in 5.1 [15:57] columb: you can ask them to provide you support.. or you can "hack" around at it with alsa [15:57] what would i do? just use what is working, and let the system fake 5.1 after the stereo output [15:57] CA0106 do work with linux. But sometimes it starts speeding up all audio on my pc. [15:58] columb: sounds like its not working well [15:58] columb: have you contacted the vendor of the hardware? [15:58] columb: what is the output of "aplay -l" ? [15:58] It's should software related issue. Because it's worked fine under Windows. [15:59] columb: ? [15:59] columb: the vendor provided you that windows driver [15:59] columb: if they provided you a linux driver, it would work as well [15:59] No, it's worked out of box. [15:59] the windows support is irrelevant [16:00] columb: linux supports what it can.. the kernel is modular.. that doesnt mean its going to be able to work "properly" [16:00] columb: what is the output of "aplay -l" ? [16:00] http://pastebin.com/HKnWdzyh [16:01] columb: looks like its supporting all the outputs [16:01] columb: the *only* issue you have is that is "speeds up" ? [16:01] With ca0106 - yes. [16:02] columb: why do you say "with ca106" ? [16:02] are you using the other device? [16:02] columb: im about to leave, so i will give you a list of things to try [16:03] columb: i would try the pulse audio channel [16:03] when asking for help, i would *not* mention what you are mentioning [16:03] you make it seem like you are using multiple devices to emulate 5.1 [16:03] columb: i would say "im using this device and when i play this material it speeds up" [16:03] i would test something with good codec support in something well supported [16:04] Right now I'm using built-in ALC1200. [16:04] VLC with an ogg file [16:04] see if you can replicate the exact conditions for the speedup [16:04] start the application that is speeding up the audio from the terminal, and see if you see helpful output [16:05] columb: stop using the built in audio.. if you can, disable it in the bios for your testing [16:06] Guys from #ubuntu helped me to enable it. The issue was before it was disabled. [16:06] *it was enabled. [16:06] columb: if you dont want to use it, then turn it off, and troubleshoot the issue [16:07] columb: as i suggested, in the bios would be best [16:07] Stereo is better then speeded up sound. :( [16:07] columb: ? [16:07] columb: this is for troubleshooting the issue [16:07] columb: i am here on and off, and i will try and point you in the proper direction...OR you can wait for another volunteer [16:08] though, you wont get specific help for that issue here, likely.. [16:08] Thanks for your help. [16:08] and, i will help you, but you will need to be willing to troubleshoot [16:08] so, good luck and i will be happy to help later if i can, and you are willing. cheers! === contrapunctus is now known as EroSannin === EroSannin is now known as contrapunctus === contrapunctus is now known as EroSannin === EroSannin is now known as HisaoNakai === HisaoNakai is now known as HisaoNakai_ === HisaoNakai_ is now known as HisaoNakai__ === HisaoNakai__ is now known as EroSannin === EroSannin is now known as EroSannin_ === EroSannin_ is now known as EroSannin__ === EroSannin__ is now known as contrapunctus === contrapunctus is now known as contrapunctus_ === contrapunctus_ is now known as contrapunctus__ === contrapunctus__ is now known as contrapunctus_ === contrapunctus_ is now known as HisaoNakai [23:22] Hello, can anyone recommend a way to remotely connect to the GUI, via VNC or RDP so that I can share the same desktop on the physical machine and remotely? [23:30] Ambrose: x11vnc [23:31] vlt: Hah thanks, I was just about to apt-get that :p [23:38] vlt: Got it all dialed in here, thanks. [23:39] Also installed xrdp so I don't have to download a seperate client :D
