lwizardlhello02:11
lwizardlI just finished installing the mythbuntu 12.04 64bit and when rebooting and going into backend setup it seems not to find my hd pvr. is there a trick to it ?02:12
tgm4883lwizardl, nope, should be seen right out of the box02:14
lwizardlit works fine on windows 7 been recording with it for the last month fine.02:15
tgm4883lwizardl, which version is it?02:15
lwizardl121202:15
tgm4883lwizardl, is that this one  http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr2.html02:16
lwizardlno02:16
lwizardlcomponent02:16
tgm4883lwizardl, then yea, it should work fine02:16
tgm4883lwizardl, does it work outside of mythtv?02:16
lwizardlthis one02:16
lwizardlhttp://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html02:16
lwizardlyes works fine on win702:16
tgm4883lwizardl, do you see it if you do 'dmesg | grep hdpvr'02:17
lwizardlyes02:18
lwizardlbut seems that it just now has been added as video002:18
tgm4883ok, so does the backend see it now?02:18
lwizardlyup seen in backend02:18
lwizardlso ubuntu just didn't detect it i guess02:19
tgm4883just took a bit it seems02:19
lwizardlyeah02:20
lwizardlokay now it detected the 3 inputs from the device02:20
lwizardlcomponent, S-Video, Composite02:21
lwizardlfor the time being I do not have a SD subscription, will be doing that hopefully friday. what do I do for the input connections settings02:22
tgm4883you'll need to make a dummy listing02:25
tgm4883I believe there is a setting in there for that02:25
tgm4883lwizardl, SD also has a 7 day free trial02:26
lwizardlyeah used that in the past so I would have to make another email acct somewhere to get another 7day free02:26
lwizardlI can just do the 2 month for $6 for now02:30
lwizardlk just paid for the subscription and had to adjust the settings it had me as satellite and that was years ago02:36
lwizardlokay so now that I have paid for the sd sub, it seems to have a problem with fetching channels from my listing03:35
lwizardlokay seems that I found part of my problem, even after reseting my password sd just won't download the channel listing in myth03:54
lwizardlokay where does mythbuntu 12.04 store logs ?04:25
tgm4883 /var/log/mythtv/04:26
lwizardlwhich would have the tuner errors listed in it?04:32
lwizardlbackend.log?04:32
tgm4883yes04:36
lwizardlit keeps making my tuner busy at system startup04:39
Shadow__Xi am running mythbunt 12.04 and have the man pages for update-motd but not the program itself05:54
Shadow__X/etc/update-mot.d/ is there and the motd gets updated with mythtv-status but the script i put there does not seem to run05:54
Shadow__Xi am able to run dpkg-reconfigure on update-motd but that doees not seem to do anything05:55
=== hpeter_ is now known as hpeter
lwizardlhello17:15
lwizardlI spent most of yesterday doing multiple attempts of having a working myth setup but seems everytime I bootup my dvr box with my hdpvr 1212 (component video model) connected to the system it keeps saying either the tuner is busy(in use) or errors. While my avr gets no audio from the hdpvr17:17
lwizardlgonna try another distro and see if i have better luck, bbl17:50
lwizardlanyone around that can help with hdpvr setup?21:16
jpabqlwizardl: use pastebin to post some backend logs with "-v channel, record" and I will take a look when I have some time.21:46
jpabqIt may have to wait until I am off work, tonight.21:46
lwizardlokay I just took the time to blank and reinstall the 12.04 system. Doing updates right now21:48
lwizardlwill the logs you will need to see the mythbackend.log file?21:48
jpabqlwizardl: I assume so.  I am a fedora user myself, and hand install, so I don't know what ubuntu does.21:50
jpabqI do know a lot about the HD-PVR, though.21:50
jpabqHonestly, I had not clicked until just now that we were in the ubuntu channel :-)21:51
lwizardlah21:51
lwizardlwell for one when ubuntu loads my hdpvr cutes audio to my surround sound receiver21:52
lwizardlwhich is connected via the toslink optical cable21:52
lwizardl*cuts21:52
jpabqRCA or S/PDIF audio input on the HD-PVR?21:52
lwizardlspdif21:52
jpabqSounds like your myth config is switching it over to RCA, then.  The HD-PVR will refuse to do anything if it does not see valid audio input, so that may be a lot of your problem.21:53
lwizardli have to reboot a windows machine to get audio working again21:53
lwizardlk21:54
jpabqIn mythtv-setup, in the capture card section for the HD-PVR there should be an option to select the audio input.21:57
lwizardlk im stuck on the ubuntu updates right now its at about 80% done21:59
Shadow__Xlwizardl: what does rebooting a windows machine have to do with getting audio again?22:07
lwizardlShadow__X: when the hdpvr is connected to a linux box during bootup it seems to cut off my audio. it takes booting a windows machine  with it connected to get my audio back22:09
lwizardlhttp://www.wizardsarcade.com/hdpvr/index.html I took some screenshots from the windows machine. Could the driver information from the windows machine help figure out why it fixes the audio ?22:19
lwizardlokay i connected the rca audio and audio comes back on. so it does seem to be that it switched it to rca22:23
lwizardlwhen using the hdpvr as my "tuner" source channel frequency table is default correct?22:29
jpabqlwizardl: yeah, it doesn't really matter since myth itself is not tuning anything.  That is why you have to have an external channel changing script.22:45
lwizardlthought so just had to make sure22:50
lwizardlokay I just finished my backend setup and letting it do the mythfilldatabase. I typed my setting so hopefully it will help incase I did something wrong22:52
lwizardlhttp://wizardsarcade.com/hdpvr/index.html22:52
jpabqIs your channel change script really blank?  If so, that won't work.  You must at least set it to /bin/true.22:53
Shadow__Xlwizardl: are you trying to use the comcast set top box fir your tv and use it mythtv to record?22:55
lwizardlyeah left it blank. i'll change it22:55
lwizardlShadow__X: basically22:56
Shadow__Xyou are setting yourself up for recording issues22:56
Shadow__Xyou should really be using a dedicated set top box for that22:56
Shadow__Xwith that said you could try using either firewire or lirc to change the channel for you22:57
Shadow__Xas that would be a much better and reliable solution compared to you changing the channel22:57
lwizardlyeah i was planning to let mythtv change the channels but i have to find the sensor location on the box.22:58
lwizardlits a pace rng 110 box22:58
Shadow__Xlwizardl: like this http://cdn.avsforum.com/0/0e/525x525px-LL-0ed7189b_vbattach163854.jpeg23:00
Shadow__X?23:00
Shadow__Xone of those boxes?23:00
lwizardlno these http://eaglecountytimes.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/comcast-rng110.jpg23:00
Shadow__Xi would see if you can use firewire to change the channels23:01
Shadow__Xi have had good luck with 2 different motorola boxes23:01
Shadow__Xhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/FireWire23:02
Shadow__Xhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/FireWire#Changing_Channels_via_Firewire23:02
lwizardlk i'll have to use an addon card for firewire23:02
Shadow__Xwell maybe your best bet is to use the ir blaster as you won't have to buy something23:03
lwizardli think i have some firewire addon cards in storage23:04
lwizardlokay found 2 firewire cards and a new cable23:14
lwizardlgenerally would pinnacle systems or lucent cards be more supported ?23:15
Shadow__Xi have no idea23:18
Shadow__Xi am looking to see if any scripts support that box23:18
Shadow__Xhttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/6200ch23:19
Shadow__Xif it is pace then it might work23:19
Shadow__X#define PACE_VENDOR_ID1    0x00005094 /* 550 & 779 */23:19
Shadow__X#define PACE_VENDOR_ID2    0x00005094 /* unknown */23:19
Shadow__X#define PACE550_MODEL_ID1  0x0001055123:19
Shadow__X#define PACE779_MODEL_ID1  0x0001075523:19
lwizardlokay the pinnacle system one as soon as the cable is connected my pc shuts off so im guessing the card has a short23:20
lwizardlokay I have the lucent marked addon card in the system and the firewire cable connected to the pc and the cablebox23:25
Shadow__Xseems to work ST Lab F-152 PCI 3+1Port1394a NEC uPD72874 Pace RNG110 Fedora 11. Works using P2P, stable @ 400Mbps. Use 6200ch changer.23:27
lwizardlk23:28
lwizardlhow can i test if the firewire card is installed and detected properly ?23:28
Shadow__Xyou can look through dmesg23:29
Shadow__Xand lspci23:29
lwizardlk will it say firewire or like 1394 ?23:32
lwizardllspci output http://pastebin.com/sQjRnZ8923:33
Shadow__Xlwizardl: i don't see it listed there make sure it is fully seated23:35
Shadow__Xalso look at dmesg next23:35
lwizardldon't see either one 1394 or firewire23:35
lwizardlhttp://pastebin.com/XNrZBp4f23:35
lwizardlwell seems that firewire cable box is detected23:42
lwizardlat the same device id as the hdpvr23:42
