dunpealIs XFCE still based on GTK+ 1?01:14
dunpealerr, GTK+ 201:15
SonikkuAmericaYep01:18
SonikkuAmericadunpeal: 4.12 has GTK+ 3 support, and eventually it's all going to 301:18
dunpealWhat are the migration plans?  GTK+ 2 is being deprecated01:18
SonikkuAmericadunpeal: See above01:18
dunpealSonikkuAmerica: thanks. any idea why XFCE chose to go with GTK+ 3 instead of porting to Qt like LXDE did?01:20
SonikkuAmericadunpeal: LXDE is rather new and prone to toolkit change. XFCE has been GTK+-based since 1999, and has the experience and know-how to continue with it. Their transition will be a slow but sure one. As always, stability and performance are XFCE's main thing.01:22
SonikkuAmerica(As well as being lightweight)01:22
dunpealSonikkuAmerica: *nod*, thanks.01:22

loganvwhiteI've been playing around in syclient and various configuration files for about four hours now and it's starting to drive me mad.03:13
loganvwhitecan anyone help me get palm detection working semi-well?03:13
loganvwhiteThe problem is that using the z variable to determine area on touchpad fails, because my fingers and palm appear to often be in the same range (around 30 - 80)03:15
loganvwhiteso i'm looking for more esoteric solutions online, but as far as I can tell this is mostly an unsolved problem.03:16
loganvwhitebasically what I'd like to do ideally is make it so the whole touchpad can be used for moving the cursor, but all input which STARTS around the left or right edge is ignored. so if I can somehow do some conditional scripting somewhere to modify that behaviour...03:18
cgtdkloganvwhite: If you can't get any help here, try #ubuntu. There are far more people there.03:20
loganvwhiteyeah, this seems pretty off topic in all the irc channels I've seen as well.03:21
loganvwhitebut I might try there03:22

well_laid_lawndpschat:  until wayland becomes default yep10:41

dpschatdo we fear wayland ? :-)10:43
bekkswayne :P10:43
well_laid_lawnwayland should be great compared to X10:44
dpschatwhat will it bring xubuntu - ive heard performance on ubuntu is currently below x. No problem with new stuff..just like xubuntu the way it is10:46
well_laid_lawnwell wayland is still pretty new so you have to be patient and let it grow10:47
well_laid_lawnX has only been around for about thirty years or so10:47
well_laid_lawnto get where it is now10:47
* cfhowlett thinks all this can be avoided by sticking with LTS versions10:47
dpschatLTS seems smart next time around  - atleast on my "production" setup10:49
Guest5449Is Xubuntu 12.04 use gtk2 or gtk3?10:57

holsteinSnt: please ask the question19:33
Sntholstein, the question is at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2160348&p=1272034519:34
Snti just did not want to copypast too many text19:34
holsteinSnt: i dont know what functionalily you want.. i would try and explain it here, without any comparison.. not "set it up like windows".. assume a volunteer here doesnt use windows, and try and be specific19:40
Snt"If you press, for example, shift+6 or shift+4 combination in notepad, you can mark text."19:40
Snti'd like to get that workign19:40
Snti'd like to get that working19:40
bazhangyou want an ide?19:41
holsteinSnt: mark text? highlight it? mark it how? in what way?19:41
Snti mean try to open any gui text redactor, enter some text, and then press shift- left arrow19:43
Sntin old XT times you could do the same by pressing shift - numpad 419:44
* w30 yearns for Edlin19:45
w30Snt: you don't mean put it in a clipboard?19:50
Sntno19:50
Snti meant just select text19:50
w30Snt and do what with it?19:51
Sntthat's all19:51
holsteincontrol alt escape in screen might work for you.. in nano or whatever19:51
Snti want to select some text by pressing shift-numpad4 / shift-numpad6, just like i can select text (in mousepad, for example) by pressing shift-left arrow or shift- right arrow19:52
w30Snt evidently you want something to happen? What? Change color of text?19:52
Sntdo you have any gui text editor right now?19:53
Sntlike gnomepad/mousepad?19:53
holsteinSnt: im in gedit, and holding shift with the arrow keys selects text19:53
Sntperfect.19:53
holsteinSnt: gedit is a GUI text editor19:53
Snti want to select text exactly in the same way by pressing shift-keypad4 / shift-keypad619:54
Sntthat's all :)19:54
holsteinSnt: i hold shift and use the arrow keys..19:54
Snti know. it works.19:55
Snti want to do the same with keypad arrows19:56
holsteinSnt: the keypad is selectable on a hardare level, typically.. like caps lock19:56

MagnussssHi, I  have a continuing problem with one of my computers. A kernel error gives me a "system failure, panic occured, shutting down the system". This happens on just a particular kernel. Could someone tell me if there is any safe kernels to use? Often when I upgrade the system it disappears, no problem at all, but when it is recently installed I always have this issue.22:04
