James_EppI'm installing kubuntu in a VM for setting up, installing programs and such. If I all of a sudden switch it from that VM (which is installed on a desktop) to a netbook, will everything transfer over okay?01:39
James_EppLike, will battery indicators and such be an issue or not?01:40
unheedingso i have an issue - i can see lightdm, but when i log in to kde it tuns my monitor off01:53
unheedingi can log in to icewm just fine01:56
geniiunheeding: Perhaps it's using a second video output which you can't see as the default01:56
unheedingno there's only one output01:57
unheedingi can log in to icewm and get into systemsettings, but i can't change anything about the monitor01:58
unheedingi'm going to try upgrading to 4.10.5 and see if that does anything01:58
unheedingnope02:01
unheedingwell, screw this02:01
geniiunheeding: When the monitor shuts off are you still able to gain a console with ctrl-alt-f1 ?02:04

TrelI have Kubuntu on a laptop with an Intel 4 integrated Graphics GPU (core 2 duo). Compositing works fine, but the splash screen in KDE flickers really bad. KDM is fine, and the desktop is fine, but the splash screen flickers. Anyone have any ideas what I can do there?04:07

Tm_Tshrinivasan: kbuildsycoca builds metadatabase(s) that KDE uses internally, you need it to do its work06:19
Tm_Tthen, it should run through in a minute06:19

SonikkuAmericaWhen you try to login? You can't log in?16:09
reservado_i can login, but when kubuntu tries to start plasma, freezes16:10
SonikkuAmericareservado_: What are your machine specs?16:10
geniiSonikkuAmerica: I'm having a similar sound issue atm :-/16:12
OerHeksMe had it too, 2 days ago, could not find a solution16:13
SonikkuAmericagenii: :\ indeed. Can't even bring out my HD Audio with pavucontrol either (like I used to be able to)16:13
SonikkuAmericaOerHeks: ^^16:13

SonikkuAmericareservado_: Are you using the proprietary drivers?16:14
reservado_nope16:14
SonikkuAmericagenii, OerHeks: I wonder...16:14
geniiWhats weird is my internal audio doesn't work but if I plug external speakers it works. The HDMI sound doesn't work though.16:14
* SonikkuAmerica heads for the sound room16:14
reservado_In fact prior version of kubuntu works fine16:14
reservado_but i choose to make a fresh install16:14
OerHeksi was refering to reservado_, not the sound issue16:14

SonikkuAmericaOerHeks: Oh lol16:15
reservado_and i can enter kade16:15
reservado_and i can enter kde16:15
reservado_but when reinstall plasma desktop computer freezes when trying to load the desktop16:15
SonikkuAmericagenii: Nope.16:16
SonikkuAmericaTried a USB headset.16:16
geniireservado_: Was it working previously?16:17
SonikkuAmericagenii: Figured it, it was speech-dispatcher.16:20
geniireservado_: I would suggest from login screen: ctrl-alt-f1   ...login to text console there. Then: mv .kde .oldkde         then: sudo apt-get install --reinstall kubuntu-desktop      ... then: sudo service lightdm restart    ( or if you still use kdm use instead: sudo service kdm restart ) ..if you don't see login may need to alt-f7 back to it16:26
reservado_will try16:34
Trel_mobileBlueskaj I'll try that tonight when I get home.16:34
=== spawn57 is now known as spawn[dead]
Trel_mobileAre thete usually Intel drivers there?16:35
Trel_mobileI thought Intel had open sourced theirs.16:35
BluesKajTrel_mobile, , not sure , depends on your hardware16:35
Trel_mobileIntel series 4 integrated graphics. (core 2 duo processor)16:36
Trel_mobileEither way I'll try that tonight when I get home.16:37
BluesKaj!proprietary16:40
BluesKaj!info proprietary16:40
ubottuPackage proprietary does not exist in raring16:40
BluesKajhmm16:41
SonikkuAmerica!nonfree16:41
ubottuWhen we use the term 'non-free', we mean that it is not Open Source. Software that is not open source cannot be fixed or improved by anyone except the software authors -- which is not us :(16:41
SonikkuAmericaBluesKaj: Oh I know what you're looking for16:42
SonikkuAmerica!nv16:42
ubottuFor Ati/NVidia/Matrox video cards, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VideoDriverHowto16:42
Trel_mobileWas that macro for me?16:43
genii!binary16:44
geniiHm.16:45
BluesKajTrel_mobile, yes check SonikkuAmerica's posted  url16:45
Trel_mobileMine is Intel, not ati/nvidia/matrox though I'll check that link16:52
Trel_mobileYeah, that doesn't address intel. I'm also not sure my issue is from that anyway. Compositing works fine, it's ONLY on the kde splash screen (any of them, including default) where it flickers.16:55
geniiTrel_mobile: What is the result for lspci -nn      ( just the line for the video )16:58
BluesKajTrel_mobile,are you using lightdm or kdm ?16:58
SonikkuAmericaOh, another thing, I think it's a known bug, but... Jovie is saying that 12 == 017:01
SonikkuAmericawhen it says the time17:01
Trel_mobileBlueskaj I'm using kdm, but it's the splash screen in kde, not the login manager. (aka it happens with lightdm too)17:02
BluesKajok17:03
Trel_mobileSo it's definitely something unrelated (ostensibly) to the login manager.17:06
BluesKajTrel_mobile, perhaps an Xorg config file would help , if you haven't already created one , get the driver loaded ar login17:08
Trel_mobileIs there a tutorial for how to do that? Xorg config files is where my knowledge drops to 0 if I don't have instructions.17:09
Trel_mobileBecause come to think of it, it does remind me of the flickering I would get on some of my nvidia boxes when the driver loaded prior to the login manager.17:10
Trel_mobileSo that could be something.17:10
genii!xorgconf17:12
ubottuThe /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is deprecated, but sometimes may still be needed to pass values to specific drivers. Generic xorg.conf generation: http://ubottu.com/y/xorgconf - ATI/AMD ( fglrx driver ) specific: http://ubottu.com/y/atiamd - NVidia ( nvidia driver )specific: http://ubottu.com/y/nvidia man xorg.conf for file structure and syntax.17:12
Trel_mobileWhat about what he was saying about loading the driver at login? (and again, intel, not ati or nvidia)17:13
BluesKajmy knowledge about startup is very limited ... I need to do more reading17:14
Trel_mobileLimited puts you ahead of my zero :p17:15

BluesKajuberblah, yes , session type option will be available in the drop down menu at the login page . Recommend you install kubuntu-desktop if it's not included in kde-full19:06
