phunyguyHello, Coming from Ubuntu to Xubuntu, I have noticed a difference with my volume control. The default behavior in Ubuntu is to ensure volume is unmuted if vol-up or vol-down is pressed. In XFCE, it stays muted. This causes issues with my hardware mute button. If I press the volume keys, the hardware button unmutes, but XFCE stays muted. If I press the mute button again to unmute, it mutes the hardware button which even though XFCE shows unmuted,06:29
phunyguysound is still muted at that point.06:29
phunyguyHow can I change the buttons to trigger a mute toggle every time a volume key is pressed?06:30

xubuntu483i need some help regarding my xubuntu installation11:01
xubuntu483it seems that I managed to brick a lot of the top panels functionality by stupidly following a tutorial and removing the sni-qt plugin11:02
xubuntu483i already tried reinstalling it, but some of the panel plugins don't work any more11:03
xubuntu483namely most of the components of the indicator plugin (like the Network Manager indicator) and most of the Action Buttons11:04
xubuntu483I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 and Xfce 4.811:05
xubuntu483I already tried reinstalling most of the xfce packages, to no avail11:06
xubuntu483do any of you have any idea how I can get back that lost functionality?11:07
ochosixubuntu483: have you recreated the panel from scratch again?11:13
ochosiand please define "not working"11:13
xubuntu483some of the indicators don't show up. the only ones that do are the sound indicator, the mail indicator and the skype indicator. not showing up are the Network Manager indicator and the Pidgin indicator. When clicking the Action Button plugin, all options like Suspend and Hibernate are greyed out, except for the 2 versions of logout buttons. The version that would normally open another menu where you can chose between logging out11:18
xubuntu483...gives an error message, that reads: The name org.xfce.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files11:18
xubuntu483I tried adding and removing the plugins from the existing panel11:19
xubuntu483I also just tried adding these plugins to the bottom panel, and there they don't work properly either11:21
ochosisry, gotta run11:21
xubuntu483k, thanks anyway11:22

nantouhow do I add an icon to my regular user?17:51
SonikkuAmericaRegular user what?17:52
nantouin the log in screen there is a generic icon, I want to change that to something more personal17:55
nantoualso, if you go to users settings, you can see the same generic icon that id like to personalize17:56
nantouhow change/add personalized user login icons18:00
knomenantou, cp ~/myavatar.jpg ~/.face18:01
nantouknome, but I havent chosen any fav icon yet, so I dont know where to paste the soon to be "myavatar.jpg" file18:01
knomenantou, i'm not sure i follow?18:02
flux242is there also an ~/.ass ?18:02
knomeflux242, that kind of jokes/attitude isn't needed. please stop.18:03
nantouknome, ok, how or where do I see myavatar? cause I dont know if I have one18:03
knomenantou, just copy any file you want to be your avatar to ~/.face18:03
nantouok, noob questions: I dont see any .face directory in my home dir18:04
nantouor in filesystem18:04
nantou~ = home dir?18:06
knomenantou, yes.18:06
knomenantou, and you don't necessarily have a .face file. if you don't, create it.18:06
nantouknome, ok, so I have to choose any pic I like, rename it .face in my home dir18:07
knomenantou, exactly.18:07
nantouor, also, rename it to myavatar.jpg and copy it with the command you provided, but I fail to see why this would be an advantage18:07
nantousweet!! thanks knome18:09
knomeyou don't have to rename it to myavatar.jpg first18:09
knomenp.18:09

rdp1976sorry, I've been away from linux for a few years, bit of a newbie at the moment18:24

rdp1972https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VideoDriverHowto18:43
rdp1972Doesn't help much18:43
rdp1972I installed Xubuntu 13.04 ... there is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file18:44
rdp1972I generated one, but have no idea what I'm supposed to do with that file to get 1920x1080 on my external monitor18:44
knome!xorg18:44
ubottuThe X Window system is the part of your system that's responsible for graphical output. To restart X, type 'sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm' on an ubuntu system. replace with kdm on Kubuntu. To fix screen resolution or other X problems: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution . Also see !xorgconf18:44
knomehave you looked at that page?18:44
rdp1972Yes, most definitely18:52
rdp1972I've looked at that page18:52
rdp1972I have a thread that has been on going for days now that shows what I've TRIED with xrandr so far18:53
rdp1972sorry, I should have posted that first18:53
rdp1972http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=216101018:53
rdp1972see what I've tried in there18:53
rdp1972I feel like this should be a simple fix, just getting information on what to do is proving to be very difficult18:53
rdp1972FYI, I am on Xubuntu 13.0418:54
