[12:36] hi all, about Ubuntu One, is it normal that I unselected all the folders to sync during setup, but it still syncing all the hidden directories under /home/me ? [12:38] is it normal that I unselected all the folders to sync during setup, but it still syncing all the hidden directories under /home/me ? === eu is now known as Guest8010 [12:59] can anyone read me? [12:59] no? [12:59] anonee: yeap [13:00] davmor2 thank you [13:01] davmor2 is it normal that I unselected all the folders to sync during setup, but it still syncing all the hidden directories under /home/me ? I can't even browse or in anyway access the synced files, and I've seen the log, they contain every directory I unselected, how can you explain this? [13:02] davmor2 correction: not only the hidden ones, all the /home/me directory actually. [13:02] anonee: you'll be best off asking later on when more of the devs are online [13:03] davmor2 thank you... [13:03] davmor2 what time is it on your side? [13:05] 14:00 the bulk of the devs are in argentina/america so should be on shortly [16:21] it seems I missed 448 msgs [16:22] telepathy got unresponsive [16:25] anyway, my question is: I unchecked directories to exclude them from being synced, however, seems ubuntuone insists on syncing everything /home/myname (including the directories I unchecked). I deleted the device and added it 3 times and got the same results, and I can't even browse my files online. can anyone please tell me what's going on? === gatox is now known as gatox_lunch [16:47] ralsina, is this something you can help with or point someone who can help to please ^ [16:48] davmor2: I pointed it to dobey but he's having lunch [16:48] ralsina: ah thanks :) [16:57] anonee: how did you manage to sync all of your $HOME? [17:04] dobey: I think he means "all the UDFs under $HOME" :-) === gatox_lunch is now known as gatox [17:53] no, I mean /home [17:53] dobey, ralsina [17:54] the whole /home, it's 1.3 GB [17:55] anonee: that's strange. And you can't do that because the logs of uploads are in there... [17:55] davmor2: looks like we'll need someone to check the account server side to see what s there... [17:56] ralsina what do u mean I can't do that because the logs of uploads are in there? [17:57] ralsina I didn't get it [17:58] anonee: when you upload something it's logged and changes a file. That file would then be marked for upload. Which will be logged. And so on. [17:58] anonee: you can't sync all of home. you can only sync select folders under home [17:58] anonee: that's one of the many reasons why you can't sync $HOME [17:58] ralsina: well, if you have UDFs, it's impossible to sync home anyway. and i think it's still impossible even if you don't, because the code errors if you try [17:59] dobey: yes, ~/Ubuntu One would be nested [17:59] yes ralsina dobey yes I thought the same way, but I assure you, it's synced! [18:00] dobey ralsina plz wait a min I'll show you [18:47] dobey, ralsina [18:49] yes? [18:51] dobey http://imageshack.com/i/05hg6sp [18:53] anonee: why does that picture suggest to you that folder is synced? [18:53] Also, that's /home not even your own home [18:54] home contains only me [18:54] anonee: so? Still doesn't mean it's synced :) [18:54] you cannot sync /home [18:55] ubuntuone can only sync actual folders which are underneath your user's home directory [18:55] ralsina I used to think this way, but I saw the pathes when I clicked "show details" while they were "backing up" [18:55] ubuntuone does not do any "backing up" of any sort [18:55] anonee: so you are backing up /home using deja dup, by any chance? [18:55] are you talking about deja-dup? [18:56] yes, but I didn't ask it to do so [18:56] yes you did. you must have. it won't do it unless you configure it to do so [18:57] I just set up the backup as it requested, and I didn't decide which directories I wanna backup [18:57] well it does have defaults. and you configured it to store backups on ubuntuone [18:57] dobey I'll check, please hold on [18:57] you had to enable deja-dup to back things up. it has nothing to do with ubuntuone syncing files though [18:58] anonee: so, changing things in ubuntu one control panel will not do anything, you need to change them in deja dup itself [19:00] yes dobey ralsina in fact, at first I didn't know what is this thing "deja.." but now I remember, I didn't even start using ubuntuOne until this thing popped up and said hey! it's important to backup! [19:01] anonee: It is! :-) [19:02] Okay now everything is under control, but would you please just clarify to me why can't I see the files or the archive or whatever format deja backs up, why can't I see them in the web panel of ubuntuone? [19:02] ralsina? dobey? [19:02] suggestions? [19:06] you're not looking in the right place perhaps? or it hasn't successfully uploaded a backup [19:09] dobey as you saw in the screenshots, Files: 1.3 GB ... View files > [19:09] anonee: dejadup IIRC saves the backup as encrypted files, so you should be able to see them in the ubuntu one website [19:09] anonee: of course it's a bad idea to sync those backups back into your device [19:10] I know they're encrypted, but I just wanna see the file, not access it [19:10] I don't wanna sync them back [19:10] anonee: that screenshot didn't tell me anything about what deja-dup did or didn't do. [19:11] ralsina is it called dejadup IRC? [19:11] it tells me you have 1.3GB of files in /home [19:11] IIRC == If I Recall Correctly [19:12] anonee: then if it has been uploaded it should be available at http://one.ubuntu.com [19:15] ralsina they're there now, for some reason they took sometime to appear, the backup is there, splitted @ 25MB files [19:15] anonee: awesome, no problem then? [19:15] ralsina no problem then :) [19:17] ralsina thanks for the IIRC :) [19:17] anonee: happy to help! [19:18] Okay bye bye room, you're awesome === elopio_ is now known as elopioo === elopioo is now known as elopio [23:48] I'm no longer able to share or publish files. This feature seems to has been disabled (disappeared) completely. Is anyone experiencing the same? [23:52] hmm, found a way to do it via the Ubuntu One Qt application. It's so weird this option no longer shows up in https://one.ubuntu.com/files/ or nautilus
