[03:28] Ohh ok.. That was the only reason i downloaded 13.10 was to check out Mir... Been running kubuntu 13.04... Downloaded 13.10 with gnome... Gnome gave about 50 crash's in about an hour... Installed kubuntu-desktop.. 2 hours smooth as can be.. not 1 crash [03:31] bug 1203207 just popped up so it is probably on its way (mir for mir, hehe) [03:31] bug 1203207 in Unity System Compositor "[MIR] mir, unity-system-compositor" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1203207 [03:36] so sence there giving a ppa for it does that mean its ready ? === tomaw is now known as 5EXAA212M === 5EXAA212M is now known as tomaw === bazhang_ is now known as bazhang [09:14] hi, the newest kernel package seems not to contain usb audio devices as it is impossible to load snd_usb_audio [09:14] where shall i report it? [09:14] if at all.. === Jikan is now known as Jikai [09:16] and for those wondering why they have no alsamixer on usbaudio devices (like me) its prohibited to load as primary audio device in alsa-base.conf (index -2 at eof) === ubott2 is now known as ubottu === Jikai is now known as Jikan === Jordan_U_ is now known as Jordan_U === ampelbein_ is now known as Ampelbein === rigved is now known as Guest78456 [11:54] Howdy folks === tsimpson_ is now known as tsimpson [16:38] hey guys i have 13.10 and i need some up with samba and folder sharing [16:40] i set up samba correctly but when i try to enable "share this folder" i get the error "net usershare" returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "Everyone" to a SID. Unexpected information recieved [16:52] JustM0Bin: what does "testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf" say? [16:54] it says loaded services file ok server ROLE_STANDALONE [16:54] press enter to see a dump of your service definitions [16:54] yeah, that seems fine. [16:54] Can you put the smb.conf on a pastebin somewhere? Check for passwords in the file first. [16:55] yes i can give me a sec [16:59] http://pastebin.com/czBkzgQE <-- here it is [17:02] JustM0Bin: Few things to try/check: Are you a member of the sambashare group? (Just type "groups" in terminal, look for that) [17:04] i typed in groups and this came up "justm0bin adm cdrom sudo dip plugdev lpadmin sambashare [17:04] ok [17:04] is that the groups i am in? [17:04] yes, that are the groups. [17:04] oh ok im not crazy new at this stuff but theres still a lot i dont know haha === hggdh_ is now known as hggdh [17:05] JustM0Bin: You could try: Remove from /etc/samba/smb.conf: "username map = /etc/samba/smbusers" and "usershare allow guests = yes" [17:05] JustM0Bin: Then sudo service samba restart [17:05] And try again. [17:06] do you just want me to take it out of the file? [17:08] JustM0Bin: Just put "#" in front, that deactivates the options. [17:12] ok wait its saying i dont have permission to save the file [17:16] JustM0Bin: yeah, you have to do "sudo editor /etc/samba/smb.conf" [17:23] ok sorry so i did sudo service samba restart and it says Samba: unrecognized service [17:29] JustM0Bin: Oh, I think the service is now called samba4 under 13.10, sorry. [17:30] no worries! but it said the same thing [17:34] Hmm. [17:35] JustM0Bin: Could you just restart your computer and see if the issue is fixed? [17:35] yup! im doing it now and thanks a lot man i really appreciate it [17:41] Hm. Searching packages.ubuntu.com saucy packages for samba4 package or smb.conf file produces nothing. [17:44] genii: then your packages.ubuntu.com is broken ;-) http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/saucy/samba4 [17:45] Maybe it's my Firefox Nightly acting up [17:46] hey, the mir channel is a bit empty, does anyone know if there's a simple window manager for mir anywhere that I could try out? [17:46] ( errors out on smb.conf search, for samba4 package search I get "Sorry, your search gave no results" [17:46] Wait, something IS broken at packages.ubuntu.com. It doesn't show binary packages for samba4 [17:47] I am able to run mir (though booting into it doesn't seem to work very well), but I can only run the demo apps [17:47] And in fact, it doesn't seem to show any binary packages in saucy. [17:48] So, yeah, packages.ubuntu.com is defunct for binary packages for now. [17:52] yeh it doesn't show saucy stuff [17:52] I was told it'll get fixed on saucy release [18:24] is it safe to upgrade yet? [18:25] well it's still every early so if it works now it might eat your cat next week [18:25] But I love my cat :/ [18:25] then be careful with alpha software [18:26] I'm not willing to have down time right now. I'll wait a little longer [18:26] thanks penguin42 [18:26] having said that, on KDE it's working fine for me at the moment (Note: I don't have a cat) [18:54] My cat is fast enough to eat any salamander that might wander her way. [18:56] Also I do feel it's a bit more stable on KDE than Unity [19:01] I think Unity pushes GL drivers a bit harder [19:02] (which is kind of scary, since that always used to be KDE that used to break) [20:55] $1gazhead [21:03] Hm.
