[04:08] lumpy: hello back.. [04:09] heya [04:09] how are you doing? [04:09] * lumpy is still having all kinds of fun with streaming [04:09] idjc won't work with lame anymore it seems [04:10] i have, for the moment, switched over to mixxx [04:10] i also lost my entire desktop monday /while/ streaming live [04:10] thank god for cli [04:11] and sorry if i wasted your time the other night OvenWerks [04:11] i still feel stupid [04:12] not a problem. I was pretty sure it was an alsa setting [04:12] well i dunno what happened [04:12] for a hot minute it would reset to the settings we changed [04:13] and then, after I reinstalled xfce, it keeps em [04:13] no clue why [04:13] PA changes things [04:13] but it works now [04:13] good [04:13] i have been running pasuspender to launch stuff now [04:13] but still no luck on idjc [04:13] Might be easiest, but sholdn't be needed [04:13] it /should/ see the lame codec [04:14] but it is not [04:14] idjc is just won't stream? or I guess lame too [04:14] lame works with mixxx [04:14] but not idjc [04:14] least the latest versions of all [04:14] mixxx and nvidia have been aprpblem for me. [04:14] my tech director remotely installed the stuff for me [04:14] mixxx works with my nvidia [04:15] but i ditched the nvidia drivers for arandr [04:15] arandr seems to work just fine atm [04:16] and, for what it is worth, i never recall having to select record in alsa [04:16] I haven't played with 12.04 for a bit [04:16] i am running 12.04.2 [04:16] and i like it [04:16] It could be PA changed things for you in both cases. [04:17] i still have a few more things to tweak with the desktop [04:17] and have to see if i can get idjc to work [04:17] it is a bit more better gooder for internet dj stuhh [04:17] er stuff [04:18] i unistalled it before i streamed tonight [04:18] maybe just reinstalling it will work but i think that is not going to be the case [04:18] from some forum posts i read [04:19] I am just trying out mixxx on this desktop... KDE/Studio 13.10 [04:19] it is looking like you, at present, need to run .make to have it work with lame [04:19] Were you running it Ogg before by chance? [04:19] i will let you know after i destroy my system and figure it ou [04:19] nope [04:20] before, for years, mp3 128 constant [04:20] and it seems the issue is not the source but the stream output [04:20] the reason it won't let me actually take the stream is because it is not streaming in the right format [04:21] and the newest version says unsupported format [04:21] but the config file has the right info for the lame encoder [04:21] but it just doesn't work [04:22] and , for the life of both myself and my tech director, we can't find an error log for it anywhere [04:22] Not fun. [04:22] hmm, just had a thought [04:22] Mixxx works fine here on this DE [04:22] wonder if i launched it via pasuspender [04:22] i like mixxx [04:22] to a degree [04:23] but idjc is more suited for internet dj stuff [04:23] but mixx does have some sweet features [04:23] but i have not gotten it to work with jackd [04:23] and i want my compressor [04:24] i like the sampers in mixxx [04:24] the cross fade is sweeter than idjc [04:24] not sure how the recording works [04:24] it takes forever to put together all the 5 second clips [04:27] When I run mixxx it seems to end up with jack ports, but not as many as idjc [04:28] when i tried to run it via jack [04:28] jack didn't so anything in the connection window [04:29] I didn't try, I just installed mixxx and jackdbus was already running and mixx showwed up. [04:29] i had jack running first as well [04:29] i will look into it again [04:30] maybe i need to launch it with or with out suspender [04:30] but the docs say to launch it via suspender [04:30] so i did [04:30] i could easily adapt to mixxx, if i can run jack rack with it [04:31] but would still prefer idjc [04:31] what sample rate do you use? [04:31] 44 or 48? [04:32] 44.1 on jack [04:32] so the stream would be too? [04:32] i have been running a higher latency with jack rack [04:32] right [04:32] stream is the same [04:33] I would guess all the files are as well [04:33] latency is .96 ms the way i set it up [04:33] not all of the files but the majority of them [04:33] 0.96? or 96 ms? [04:33] some of the artists use higher rates [04:33] er 96 [04:33] my bad [04:34] i don't get over runs with that setting [04:34] at lower latency it do once in a while [04:34] I can get less than 1ms... but not with a SB card [04:34] it was a holstein suggestion [04:34] and seems to have been a good one [04:34] not that that would be a shock [04:34] Ya, mp3 is over 100 ms anyway. [04:35] it does make monitoring a bit harder. [04:35] the other thing i like about idjc it that it will automatically log in at a time and kill the connection at the end [04:35] mixxx does not seem to have such features [04:36] but you run all you monitoring analog before it hits the computer anyway. [04:36] yeah [04:36] but i have to manually kill the wave output before i mic [04:36] otherwise there is an echo [04:37] didn't have to do that with idjc [04:37] :) [04:37] then again i never played with the dual card set up [04:37] yet... [04:37] I remember that with a satilite feed at CBC. [04:37] it looks like i could monitor off one card [04:37] and stream with the other [04:38] just haven't had the chance to play with it yet [04:38] i was literally reading the docs as i was streaming the news on monday [04:38] and mostly in cli [04:38] it was a ton of fun [04:39] I think when I was playing with it I was streaming in ogg [04:39] but, if was not for linux, nothing would have happened at all [04:39] i could convert everything to ogg [04:39] but, the stream still needs mp3 [04:39] i think [04:39] does icecast support ogg? [04:39] yes [04:39] that might be a solution [04:40] just let the server handle it then [04:40] it is kept by the same people as ogg [04:41] so many options [04:41] the problem would be you r listeners. [04:41] so little time [04:41] they would need ogg eh? [04:41] they have to have a player that supports ogg. [04:41] ic [04:41] I think most do [04:41] it is a better format imho [04:42] opus is the futrure. [04:42] and would kill this lame problem with every other version [04:42] *future [04:42] agreed [04:42] even better format [04:43] off topic q [04:43] GA [04:43] does freenode have bnc? [04:43] bnc = ? [04:43] not sure what it stands for but [04:43] basically, you are always connected to irc [04:44] and when you do log in it plays everything back [04:44] so even when your home machine is not connected [04:44] you still are [04:44] I sort of have that here [04:44] how so [04:45] I am running screen on my server with irssi as the irc client [04:45] ic [04:45] bbiaf gotta let the other DJ out [04:46] I ssh in to the server then I can reconnect to screen and all the scroll back is there. [04:50] i was having ssh issues with the new router [04:50] but i managed to hack that out [04:50] the other thing about mixxx [04:50] is it takes forever to finish a recording [04:50] screen is a nice tool, it is like a session manager for CLI [04:51] I can have any number of terminals in it and switch between them, but the program in each feels it has a live terminal. [04:51] you are much better at cli than i [04:51] but i am getting it back [04:51] just slowly [04:52] So I can have this irc going then switch to another terminal and read mail while a thrid on is doing a SW update. [04:53] I can detach and log out but screen keeps those terminals live and I can ssh back and reconnect. [04:53] From the same computer or another. If it is another I can force the new link to steal it from the old one. [05:00] nice [05:00] time for me to get horizontal [05:01] K [05:01] we shall pick this back up later [05:01] nini [05:01] Bye now === lumpy is now known as Lump|AFK === iorec_ is now known as iorec === ubott2 is now known as ubottu === axel is now known as Guest44380 === tsimpson_ is now known as tsimpson [14:14] Hello!
