=== wgrant_ is now known as wgrant [09:39] hi guys how are we doing? [09:40] hi hot_wheelz [09:45] hey hot_wheelz [09:45] noskcaj: were you here for the meeting that didn't happen last night? [09:46] jea, no. I'm normally off the computer by meeting time. [09:46] ok, that is fine [09:47] I'll try and attend the next meeting. when is it? [09:47] meetings are on the 2nd sunday of each month, at 8pm [09:47] doesn't matter if you are not around, just wanted to check if you were waiting for it or not [09:48] ok [09:48] i'll also try and be here for that [09:49] * noskcaj resumes trying to find proof he is the (current) youngest ubuntu member [09:49] While you are both here, I may as well updated you guys [09:49] #startmeeting [09:49] Meeting started Mon Jul 22 09:49:28 2013 UTC. Would you like me to host one at UNE some time? [09:54] Any events we can run would be good [09:54] Are you normally at UNE, noskcaj? [09:54] jea, no, i'm too young for that (14). University of New England [09:54] that is what I thought [09:55] still having problem with the keyboard layout on Asus A46CM. Anyone has a solution? I'm new to ubuntu btw :) [09:55] Certainly when you get to uni, it would be something you could look at doing [09:55] wy017, Try #ubuntu [09:55] jea wy017 is a mate of of mine and i am assisting him in becoming a member of ubuntu-au [09:55] wy017: We can try to help, but for that particular issue, you might find more help in #ubuntu as noskcaj suggested [09:56] Welcome wy017 to Ubuntu Australia [09:56] Welcome wy017 [09:57] Thanks all. I will post a request over there. Thank you, glad to be here [09:57] he has an issue with hotkeys on a ASUS A46CM-WX094D we trying to sort out [09:57] not sure if it's a mapping issue or not [09:57] any ideas? [09:58] jea, one small thing on the loco.ubuntu page you have up. Should it be "installation DVDs" rather than CDs? [09:58] Yes, it should. Shows how long it is since I got an installation disc [10:01] noskcaj: fixed now [10:01] :) [10:03] Well that is all I have to report on that for now. Keep an eye out for more details in the next couple of weeks [10:04] I don't think jellyware is around for his local cd update, so we will hold that for next time [10:04] #topic Local CD shipping [10:05] I guess a reminder that you can get DVDs through http://www.ubuntu.net.au [10:05] They are made by jellyware, and sent out for a small fee to cover shipping [10:05] Thanks for coming to the impromptu make-up meeting [10:06] Next meeting will be on August 11, 2013 at 8pm AEST [10:06] #endmeeting [10:06] Meeting ended Mon Jul 22 10:06:58 2013 UTC. [10:06] Minutes (wiki): http://ubottu.com/meetingology/logs/ubuntu-au/2013/ubuntu-au.2013-07-22-09.49.moin.txt [10:06] Minutes (html): http://ubottu.com/meetingology/logs/ubuntu-au/2013/ubuntu-au.2013-07-22-09.49.html [10:07] You might want to delete references to the .org.au website sine the .net looks far better [10:07] the .net.au website is not a centrally controlled site [10:07] it is purely for shipping dvds, and is a third party service [10:08] oh. Then is there a way to make the .org.au site active again (e.g. meeting logs) [10:08] you mean add content to it? [10:10] I can certainly get on to that [10:10] wy017: what is the issue you are having? [10:12] I see there is not too much help forthcoming on #ubuntu [10:12] jea, yeah, content and maybe a better theme. [10:12] the theme is mimicing the Ubuntu.com theme [10:13] It should be updated a bit [10:16] Hi jea, the hotkey isn't working. For example the mute button doesn't work as it should be. I believe I still in the generic keyboard setting (US keyboard). I try to change it to different setting but it doesn't work as well. [10:16] hmm, ok [10:17] laptop hotkeys can be hard to get working, because each keyboard has a different setup [10:19] Is there anyway that I can access the setting and designated each keys to suit my keyboard layout? or Do I need a specific Linux driver to be installed in order to make the keyboards work as I would like to? [10:19] there most likely won't be a driver specifically for it [10:20] jea it's more mapping right? [10:20] I think so [10:22] wy017 tell jea what you told me about the other asus model [10:22] normally I would suggest looking at the forums, but they are offline at the moment [10:24] they are usually a good source of info [10:24] askubuntu is a good replacement to the forums [10:24] I found out a list of certified Asus model for Ubuntu. [10:24] http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/make/Asus/ [10:25] However the model I have isn't in the list [10:25] not all models will be on the list [10:27] I believe that if somehow I can try to use one of the driver, it might work since all the keyboard layout of all Asus product is similar to one of another [10:28] yes, that is true [10:29] Usually it is loaded automatically if the device is detected [10:29] which version of ubuntu are you using? [10:31] Hi Jea, 13.04 [10:31] and it is all up to date? [10:31] because generally as you get newer kernels, you get more supported [10:33] I believe it's all up to date [10:33] jea, the system is running 3.8.0-26 [10:34] that sounds pretty new. I can't remember what is up to date though [10:35] it's the latest pushed by ubuntu [10:35] ok [10:35] it was built and fully updated on Sunday [10:36] that should be fine [10:38] jea, any ideas you can let me know i will pass them on [10:38] hot_wheelz: where in Aus are you located? [10:39] why? just curious [10:40] this might help: http://askubuntu.com/questions/63734/how-to-use-enable-fn-keys-to-adjust-volume-at-my-asus-laptop [10:40] just wondering where people are, to sort of keep track of where our members come from [10:41] We are both Vic based [10:42] thanks mate i'll pass it on [10:42] cool [10:43] thanks again talk soon [10:43] ok [10:46] noskcaj: I have adjusted the look a bit [10:46] content can be done by anyone with permissions, which I can give to you if you would like [10:47] I'm running 13.10, mostly because i'm stupid though [10:48] that was in relation to the website [11:07] jea, [11:08] yep [11:08] how old was that article you sent me I could n't tell [11:09] um, not sure [11:09] ah, from 2011 [11:09] a bit old [11:11] because it stated that the fix had be to be applied after each kernel update until a real fix was included so it had me wondering that's all [11:12] we'll give it a shot anyway [11:12] give it a shot, but it should be in the kernel by now [11:12] how old is the laptop? [11:14] not entirely sure it would also be worth raising a report to have patch included right? [11:15] not for that one [11:15] i too would have also thought it be included by now but clearly not [11:16] it is possible that for a new laptop, there might be subtle differences that have not come through yet [11:16] *not been fixed in kernel yet [11:19] i'll keep you posted [11:19] ok [12:08] jea: so the conf pack arrived? [12:08] yes, it arrived today [12:08] much quicker than expected [12:08] Yeah I was going to say that was quick [12:10] It is only Day 1 of this semester, so it can be used as soon as I get the event set up [12:11] I can tell when real uni comes back, the hallways are busier. [12:11] yeah, there would be a big change overnight [20:18] ubuntu edge [20:18] wish I had $600 so bad [20:19] ditto [20:20] my take on it is that if they get at least 5 million one day, they should be able to get it [20:20] on first day* [20:20] because the first day sets the course for the rest of the month [20:20] and apologies for cutting this convo short I gotta head to sleep [20:23] ok, good night [20:26] nights :) [20:26] ps. good to speak to someone in here for a change :D
