VicariousToastHi, could someone please tell me how to uninstall Xubuntu? I want to do a complete reinstallation of Xubuntu and Windows XP.01:44
cfhowlettVicariousToast, dual booting or wubi?01:45
VicariousToastDual Booting01:45
cfhowlettVicariousToast, best way is not reinstall XP (!) then do ubuntu.  Format the whole disk in windows and get that done then do the buntu01:46
VicariousToastI'm not sure I understand. I guess reinstalling Windows XP was the wrong phrase, I will be using the recovery disc that came with the laptop. So do I boot from that and let it wipe the hard drive? In other words, I simply have to let the recovery disc wipe the hard drive, correct?01:49
cfhowlettVicariousToast, yes.  you are aware that XP will finally reach end of life quite soon?01:50
VicariousToastYeah, I will be getting a newer computer sometime within the next year or so. I just have to save up the money first.01:51
VicariousToastAlso, thank you for the help :D01:51
cfhowlettVicariousToast, I'm guessing that you're running and older system?  you might find that lubuntu or xubuntu give you more pep in your step than ubuntu does.01:51
VicariousToastYeah, it's a Toshiba Satellite M45-S331. It's gotta be at least 9 years old now. I got it for $50 though, so for the price I think it was a pretty decent deal.01:52
cfhowlettVicariousToast, agreed.  and take a good look at xubuntu and lubuntu.  They're optimized for older/lower specification machines such as yours.  Ubuntu is not.01:53
VicariousToastOh, and I meant to say Xubuntu earlier, not Ubuntu. Xubuntu is what I am currently using.01:53
cfhowlettVicariousToast, nice.  I suggest you go with the LTS release ... 12.0401:53
VicariousToastYeah, I think that's the version I have on a CD-R Disc01:54
cfhowlettVicariousToast, verrrry nice.  have fun.01:54
VicariousToastThanks again :)01:55
cfhowlettVicariousToast, have fun and be safe.01:55

braulioHello guys, I use Xubuntu 13.04 and I'm trying to configure on my international keyboard the ABNT keyboard. I read a tutorial that said that I should edit the file "~/.bashrc" and add to the last line "setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout us_intl". Which worked great. The only thing that I notice is that everytime I reboot the system it goes back to the ABNT for a Portuguese keyboard (not international), and I have to open the terminal and close it in order to14:34
brauliomake it work again (I don't even have to do anything, just open and close). Is there any way to "fix" this?14:34
knomebraulio, did you try using the languages tool in settings manager to change the layout?14:41
braulioknome: Hey man, I tried a different model of keyboard here. Rebooted and now it seems to work just fine. thanks.14:52
knomeokay14:53
knomehave fun14:53
braulioalso, why everytime I start the computer Xubuntu asks me for a password to unlock some "default" thing?14:55
SunStarthat could be the screen saver. try disabling it in launcher -> settings -> settings manager -> session and start up15:38

livingdaylightMy system has been crashing unexplainably of late19:04
=== azeam_afk is now known as azeam
livingdaylightis there a way of identifying how/why?19:04
Pres-Gaslivingdaylight, I would start in /var/log/syslog first19:05
livingdaylightI suddenly find myself at the login page having to re-enter password and all applications are closed except it will launch virtualbox regardless of whether it was previously open or not19:05
=== azeam is now known as azeam_afk
livingdaylightPres-Gas, what do I look for there?19:12
knomelivingdaylight, might be something in your session... just in case, remove ~/.cache19:13
Pres-GasI'd follow knome's advice first19:14
livingdaylightknome, thx19:16
livingdaylightso, go into ~/.cache and remove everything?19:16
livingdaylightlets see19:17
knomelivingdaylight, you can just remove the whole directory19:18
livingdaylightknome, are you suggesting removing all of this? http://clip2net.com/s/5sahQH19:18
knomelivingdaylight, if that doesn't help, the next thing i'd look is sessions and startup under the settings manager19:18
knomeyes, it's cache - so just temporary files19:18
livingdaylighti see, ok.19:19
