ionixI need to install LAMP server with mysql version 5.1. And I do not know how to do it. I apologize for my stupidity, but I already had a bad experience in installing the server on ubuntu.04:38

ubottuLAMP is an acronym for Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP. However, the term is often used for setups using alternative but different software, such as Perl or Python instead of PHP, and Postgres instead of MySQL. xdedid anyone use recordmydesktop?13:34
cfhowlettxde, I have13:35
xdemine mysteriously cuts off at generating the file13:35
xdethe video file being made from the capture13:36
recon_lapxde: file permission issue, try start recordmydesktop from cmd line so you can easily see error messages13:37
recon_lapxde: I'm just guessing btw :)13:37
cfhowlettrecon_lap, good plan13:37
xdeNot exactly sure myself, but ls -lh does say -rw-------.  The recording was made as non-root.  Maybe I should run it as root?13:40
cfhowlettxde, no, no and HELL no.13:40
bgardnerxde: Definitely no13:40
cfhowlettxde, root is not required to run13:40
recon_lapxde: try set the file path to /tmp13:41
Riddellknome or anyone, got an opinion on this https://code.launchpad.net/~shrini/ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/fix-for-1171477/+merge/17301913:42
Riddellbug 117147713:42
ubottubug 1171477 in ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu (Ubuntu) "Typo in install slideshow - missing "real" before "estate"" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/117147713:42
Riddellpreserve screen estate. -> preserve screen space.13:42
xdethe command I use is: sleep 5; recordmydesktop -x 0 -y 0 --width 640 --height 480 --fps 15 -o warzone2100.ogv13:43
knomeRiddell, fine with that.13:43
knomewe'll review the slideshow later anyway :)13:43
xdeI'll try running it in /tmp now13:43
recon_lapxde try  recordmydesktop -x 0 -y 0 --width 640 --height 480 --fps 15 -o /tmp/warzone2100.ogv13:43
xdeok it is encoding now13:46
xdeIt seems to work with this short recording now, but before I recorded a 11 minute replay.  I wonder if it is too much?13:47
xdethat is something for me to try out.  thanks recon_lap13:48
recon_lapxde: depends how much disk space you got :)13:48
recon_lapxde: and remember to move the file out of tmp if you want to keep them13:49
xdeYeah I got an idea of running it with -o to my flash drive, 8G, which is hopefully big enough13:50
xdeI'm going to check it out the long way.  have a nice day13:51
xdeI'm now finished with the recording with 100% encoded.  Come to find out, I just needed to encode to my USB.  BTW, it seems that rushing in warzone2100 is not the same - 10 minutes to complete with discovery at around 1 minute and first hit at ~1:3015:15
recon_lapxde: it was a file permission problem, your usb stick is globally writable just like /tmp15:17
recon_lapand no idea what discovery is, I like warzone2100, fire it up every now and then just to watch things blow up :)15:18
xdeyeah15:20
xdeby 'discovery' I meant 'scouting' in old rts terminology15:21

rantshHi everyone18:02
GridCube!hi | rantsh18:02
ubotturantsh: Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. Enjoy your stay!18:02
rantshI'm not sure if this is a bug of some sorts, so I decided to pass by here and ask18:02
rantshI'm running 13.04 64 bit, and the firefox "print to file" functionality does not seem to be working correctly18:03
rantshmainly it doesn't matter what folder you select it will store the resulting pdf in the home directory18:04
[0gb_us]THat's odd indeed. I'd say it's a bug.18:04
rantshI just created a blank VM to test and see if this was just my pc going crazy or not, and got the same thing (clean install and just apt-get update, upgrade and dist-upgrade)18:05
rantshanyone else experiencing the same thing?18:05
[0gb_us]I'm still on 12.04, so I can't check.18:05
[0gb_us]In 12.04 just now, it did let me print into the ~/Videos directory.18:06
rantshyeah, I think this started happening on 12.10, but I'm not sure though.... :S18:09

rantshanyone using 13.04 64 bit?18:35
[0gb_us]Hmm. I think I know some people on another channel. I'll ask them about the print to file thing.18:36
rantshthanks man18:37
GridCuberantsh: try to print to another directory using another program like abiword18:43
[0gb_us]rantsh, I got two bites. It seems the printing to another directory works correctly for one person but the other has the same glitch you do.18:43
[0gb_us]Never mind. The person it works for is not using the default Firefox.18:44
rantshso it is a bug18:46
rantshI guess I'll have to file it on launchad?18:46
GridCuberantsh: that would be a very good idea18:47
GridCubedo you know how to do that?18:47
rantsh@GridCube other apps don't have that option18:47
GridCuberantsh: yes they do18:47
rantshnot really18:47
GridCubeall programs have print > print to file18:47
GridCubeits a default setting in xubuntu18:48
GridCubeyes, yes it does18:48
rantshI should've said it this way, checked on libre office, print print to file is not an option, will try leafpad or something default18:48
[0gb_us]Right ... It's not a Firefox option, but a pseudo-printer added by some other software.18:48
GridCuberantsh: libreoffice uses the same printer to file than the rest of the system18:49
GridCubebut it also has a pdf creator thats basically the same18:49
rantshI don't get the option in writer, I suppose it hides it because it has that "export to pdf" option18:50
rantshgetting the same issue on leafpad...18:50
GridCubehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/100456918:51
ubottuUbuntu bug 1004569 in Mozilla Firefox "print to file defaults to /home and fails silently if target directory is not writable" [Medium,Confirmed]18:51
[0gb_us]It's a bug in the pseudo-printer then, not Firefox.18:52
rantshyup...18:52
rantshthe thing is that the folder is writable18:52
rantshi'm trying to print to my desktop18:52
GridCubehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/109017418:53
ubottuUbuntu bug 1090174 in gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) "firefox print to file path prints to home instead of selected directory" [Low,Triaged]18:53
rantshthanks :)18:53
rantshI've been googling around to see if someone had filed it, obviosly not good enough...18:54
rantshwhat does  Triaged mean? (english is not my first lang)18:54
GridCubethat someone found the issue and knows why it happens18:55
[0gb_us]I don't know what it is either, and English IS my first language. Hold on, I'll look it up.18:55
bazhangstopped the bleeding18:56
[0gb_us]Never mind, I'm too slow.18:56

nukkequestion: I am running a different WM and would like to know how to configure the fonts. where is the local font.conf located?20:09
TheSheepnukke: you mean .fontconfig/ ?20:09
TheSheepnukke: what do you want to configure exactly?20:10
nukkeI guess so, yes. editing /etc/fonts/fonts.conf is bad practice, right?20:10
nukkeTheSheep: I want to specify which fonts get used for the title bar, for example. with Xfce I just used the settings manager, but I am currently using i3.20:11
TheSheepnukke: the title bar is drawn by the window manager, so you need to check its documentation on how to configure that20:14
