c2tarunHi friends, I use two cloud services for syncing data across my various devices. One is dropbox and Other is Ubuntu One. But these applications always running in background drain my laptop's battery. I want to schedule tasks that sometime on weekends (when I am safely at home's wi-fi) dropbox and ubuntu one automatically starts and do the necessary syncing. Can anyone please point me in the right direction from where to start?00:50

darkblue_bhi all - if I look at `uname -a` and see the kernal version.. and I do `dpkg-query --show` and I see a few other linux-image packages installed with other version numbers. is it safe to remove those other packages?03:35
darkblue_bis it what I think it might be.. just other kernals sitting there?  I am not facile with this, as you can tell03:36
darkblue_bI assume dpkg-query --show   is listing things that are installed...03:36

qwertz__hi! anyone familiar with samsung SSDs and disk encyrption?12:10
baizonqwertz_: well i encrypt using encfs12:10
baizononly some folders12:10
qwertz__will disk encryption in some way bind the SSD to the specific BIOS/laptop it's configured on?12:10
qwertz__baizon,  samsung pro SSDs have some hardware level encryption12:11
qwertz__i hope it's fully transparent to any software (including the OS)12:11
baizonqwertz_: not really, because /boot wont be encrypted12:11
qwertz__baizon,  are you sure?12:11
baizonqwertz_: you mean the hardware specific encryption?12:12
qwertz__as far as i understand (so far), anything on the disk is encrypted12:12
qwertz__baizon,  yes12:12
SysiI think most new ssd:s have low level encryption, but encrypted filesystem is different12:12
qwertz__i just want the guy who'll steal my laptop in the future not to be able to extract any data from my SSD12:13
Sysihttp://vxlabs.com/2012/12/22/ssds-with-usable-built-in-hardware-based-full-disk-encryption/12:13
qwertz__Sysi,  yep, already read that12:14
qwertz__the SSD in question is Samsung's 840 pro12:14
qwertz__Sysi,  even with that link, i do not understand on which level the encryption takes place12:15
qwertz__i want to hardware to take care of everything. i want to be able to plug the disk into another machine, use the same password and get access to my data.12:16
qwertz__i don't want speed penalties due to encryption12:16
qwertz__and i don't want to take care of anything besides setting a password i'm asked whenever i boot12:16
bgardnerqwertz_: Encryption takes processing power, you sacrifice at least some speed no matter what.12:17
baizonqwertz_: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/samsung-ssd-encryption-work-39204.html12:17
Sysithat article says only intel has properly working low-level encryption, in any case crypto will mean performance decrease12:17
qwertz__baizon,  thanks for that link! that seems to be the resource i needed12:19

[JJ]AlbertI have question about the proprietary catalyst drivers.21:15
[JJ]AlbertAt the moment, the latest drivers for FGLRX in the (X)ubuntu repository is at Catalyst 13.1.21:16
[JJ]AlbertBut the latest Catalyst drivers for Linux is 13.421:16
[JJ]AlbertI've not installed it for fear of messing up my xorg settings, but trying to build the installer for my system (Xubuntu 13.04, AMD x86_64)21:17
[JJ]Albert-- It hasn't worked.21:18
[JJ]AlbertThe only installer for 13.4 I've found is only being made for the next Ubuntu/Xubuntu version.21:18
[JJ]AlbertAnd that won't work, probably.21:18
[JJ]AlbertSo I want to know if there's an alternate for Raring that I could use to get the latest stable Catalyst drivers.21:19

bekks[JJ]Albert: Why cantyou use the drivers shipped by your release?21:40

[JJ]AlbertBut mainly performance.21:41

[JJ]AlbertI'm guessing by now that I should just wait for 13.10 instead of trying to install 13.4?21:52
