=== jje is now known as jimerickson === Oli`` is now known as oli [10:03] hi all. I'm trying to install libopenal1 on saucy-daily, and get "E: Package 'libopenal1' has no installation candidate". How can I fix this? [10:04] l0ll0lll1: the package doesn't exist. [10:12] ikonia: hmm... but wine from ppa refers to it... [10:12] l0ll0lll1: that's winePPA's problem [10:12] ikonia: but how can it not exist if this page says it does exist: http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/libopenal1 ? [10:13] l0ll0lll1: because you the error you are saying shows it doesn't exist [10:14] great, so who should I believe? apt or packages.ubuntu.com? [10:14] l0ll0lll1: I assume you've run apt-get update to make sure your apt-cache is current [10:14] l0ll0lll1: what version is it looking for / [10:14] updated several times [10:14] l0ll0lll1: I can see libopenal1 1.14 in the repo [10:15] l0ll0lll1: what's the actual version it wants [10:15] Depends: libopenal1 (>= 1:1.13) but it is not installable [10:15] l0ll0lll1: yes, as it's 1.14 [10:15] the wine repo is out of date with it's dependencies, [10:16] l0ll0lll1: are you sure you're pointing at the saucy release in the wine repo [10:16] i did "add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa" [10:16] hoping it'll select correct release automatically [10:17] l0ll0lll1: did you not check ? [10:18] there is a 13.10 repo on the wine PPA, so it should be fine, but it looks like it's out of date [10:19] l0ll0lll1: if you do "apt-get install libopenal1" what do you get ? [10:19] ikonia: as i said initially, "E: Package 'libopenal1' has no installation candidate" [10:19] l0ll0lll1: that's with you just running sudo apt-get install libopenal1" [10:20] Hey all [10:20] ikonia: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=3F7Q5JKv [10:21] may this be because i run from liveUSB? [10:21] !info libopenal1 [10:21] libopenal1 (source: openal-soft): Software implementation of the OpenAL API (shared library). In component universe, is extra. Version 1:1.14-4ubuntu1 (raring), package size 175 kB, installed size 389 kB [10:22] l0ll0lll1: it's there, I'm not sure why you are are doing this on a liveusb but that shouldn't matter [10:22] l0ll0lll1: although look at th etag on it, "raring" [10:22] ikonia: i have to test a i915 bug which appears with a software run in wine [10:23] l0ll0lll1: apt-cache policy libopenal1 [10:24] l0ll0lll1: Check that you have universe enabled in /etc/apt/sources.list [10:25] ikonia: i think i've found a fix: had to enable universe in software sources [10:25] i wish apt gave some hints for this [10:25] Ampelbein just said that [10:25] about 2 seconds after you /parted [10:25] it was connection error [10:26] ok, after your connection droppe [10:28] now the only problem remains with libgphoto2-port0... with same error, but now all repos are enabled [10:28] d!info libgphoto2-port0 [10:28] !info libgphoto2-port0 [10:28] libgphoto2-port0 (source: libgphoto2): gphoto2 digital camera port library. In component main, is optional. Version 2.4.14-2 (raring), package size 42 kB, installed size 224 kB [10:28] well, it's in main [10:28] l0ll0lll1: what version does it want ? [10:29] (>= 2.4.10.1) [10:29] so 2.4.14..... [10:30] l0ll0lll1: The saucy version is named libgphoto2-port10 [10:30] !info libgphoto2-port10 [10:30] Package libgphoto2-port10 does not exist in raring [10:30] ikonia: In saucy. [10:30] ahhh ubotu is still picking up raring [10:30] hang on [10:30] sorry about that === Jikan is now known as Jikai [10:32] ok, good to know why the fail occurs. Now is there a way to convince apt to install package without all deps satisfied? === Jikai is now known as Jikan [10:33] l0ll0lll1: apt, no, dpkg, yes. But your software will likely not work when its linked against an older soname. [10:33] l0ll0lll1, if you -f install , it wants to remove a whole lot of 32 git depends and thwir apps like lsb-core and ia32-libs, I went ahead and let remove all that , then dist upgraded ..haven't had a problem sincxe [10:33] 32 bit [10:33] l0ll0lll1: why would you install packages without the deps being resolved ? [10:35] ikonia: i'd install the package with apt thinking deps are not resolved, but having them installed under another name, like with libgphoto2-port0 vs libgphoto2-port10 [10:36] l0ll0lll1: Package names usually aren't changed for no reason. In the case of libraries, a newer soname will mean that packages linked against the old version will likely not work. [10:41] ok, that shouldn't be a problem since wine doesn't really need libgphoto to startup and execute the app i need [10:46] it should do a library check at startup [10:46] and complain about a missing library if it's not there [10:47] ikonia: such libraries in wine are usually not linked in a way ldd would see, they are instead opened when needed with dlopen(), so this shouldn't be a problem [10:48] that part I don't know - I'm not a "wine guy" so I'll take your word on that [10:59] !info libgphoto2-port10 [10:59] libgphoto2-port10 (source: libgphoto2): gphoto2 digital camera port library. In component main, is optional. Version 2.5.2-0ubuntu2 (saucy), package size 46 kB, installed size 236 kB [11:00] Oh, and package.ubuntu.com seems to got fixed too. It now shows binary packages for saucy! yay. [20:24] just black screen [20:24] hht: And what processor do you use? [20:24] !nomodeset [20:24] A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter [20:25] atom n270 [20:25] i try to boot also in xboot and without success wtf [20:25] i didnt havce problem with ubuntu 12.04 [20:27] hht: So, you don't even see a grub menu, yes? Then I'd follow bazhang's advice of checking the checksum and reimage the usb stick. [20:28] yes just black screen [20:28] i have tried several times without success [20:28] hht, This booting the usb? [20:28] its pendrive 16gb, i just formatted it in fat32 [20:28] maybe it is bad formatted? [20:29] hht, maybe check the nomodeset option you can do it as well on the live usb, although unetbootin bypasses that gui. [20:36] ok all works, the problem was bad formatted pendrive, something wrong with its structure, i deleted partition and made new and installed ubuntu 13.10 and all works good [20:38] groovy man === bazhang_ is now known as bazhang === wilee-nilee is now known as curlee
