[17:47] we gotta work out how to add that identify thing in ibid.ini [17:48] when it's not wet, it's windy [17:48] and there's snow on the mountains [17:49] superfly: eish! [17:50] superfly: sounds like normal for this time of the year, not? [17:52] superfly: good to see you here again [17:52] yes, normal winter weathe [17:52] *weather [17:59] wb Kilos 'o' [17:59] ty Cantide [18:00] aw that was a flop [18:00] im here twice === QA- is now known as QA [18:04] http://xmodulo.com/2013/04/how-to-run-command-on-multiple-servers-at-once.html from Linux FAQ on G+ [18:04] hey superfly inetpro [18:05] goeie more magespawn [18:05] hi Cantide [18:06] hey magespawn :) [18:06] I am really stumped by what to make for the app showdown T-T nothing is simple.. [18:06] coffee is ready for magespawn [18:07] ty QA [18:07] np magespawn [18:07] :) [18:08] i have an idea for an app, but will take a lot of work [18:08] lol @ Kilos [18:08] lol [18:09] i cant get the thing to identify [18:10] yeah... i have some ideas, but really tricky ones -.-v [18:11] and it would be more of mobile than desk top but would need both [18:11] maybe we could set up a group or something to work on it [18:11] a colaboration [18:11] spelling? [18:14] collaboration * [18:14] hmm [18:14] i'm not a skilled programmer by a long shot [18:14] brb going to submit wife's assignment [18:14] and i'm very new to Qt [18:16] as an indication of my skills, i made this last night -> https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/36318710/Screenshot%20from%202013-08-11%2020%3A15%3A48.png [18:17] all it does is rotate the image randomly when i click the button :p haha, quite useless >.< [18:17] I wouldn't mind making it into a compass, but i don't know how to do that and I don't have a phone to test on -.- [18:26] i am also very new to programming, but there is a lot of people here who may join in or help [18:27] i thought you could load an emulator or such for testing [18:27] i have cool ideas, but then i don't have the knowledge to make them work - like making a compass app - how do i get that info from the phone? -_- [18:27] oh, maybe... i'm not sure [18:27] the Ubuntu SDK runs it on the desktop, but i don't think it emulates the phone hardware or screen size [18:40] android has the sdk to emulate i think [18:42] i go sleep now. night all you good peeps [18:42] sleep tight [18:43] night Kilos :) [18:43] magespawn, ah, yeah, i think so [18:45] well lets keep it as idea and maybe something will come of it. [18:49] yeah :) [18:50] well, i am keen to enter, i just need a good idea for a simple app [18:50] hmm [18:50] an FTP client would be cool [18:50] but i'd need to know a bit more about FTP first :p [18:54] i will see what i can find out [18:55] Cantide: FTP must die! [18:55] Maaz: ftp [18:55] Dump FTP! http://www.43folders.com/2008/07/14/dump-ftp see also: FTP must Die!! http://mywiki.wooledge.org/FtpMustDie [18:55] haha [18:56] sshhh [18:56] please don't go there [18:56] i use it a lot uploading files to a server sometimes >_> [18:56] well, i didn't mean to start a debate on FTP [18:56] * inetpro has seen way to many broken implementations [18:56] i was simply saying that there are many possibilities for an app for the app showdown [18:57] and sadly these implementations tend to stick around for ever [18:58] :p [18:58] I use filezilla... never had any problems [18:58] but hey, that's not my poooooooint >.< [18:59] the point is... what apps would we be able to make for the app showdown? [19:00] don't build another broken FTP solution, that is all I'm asking [19:00] :p [19:00] yessir [19:01] i was looking around for cool APIs to make something [19:01] read the above for the many reasons [19:01] but i see the Google Translate API is a paid service T-T [19:06] You know what's really funny? Ubuntu started out as a Gnome distro, and it's slowly moving over to Qt, the technology powering KDE [19:06] :p [19:06] looks like a move in the right direction though [19:07] i didn't know KDE uses Qt though 'o' [19:07] Yup. [19:07] i see :) [19:07] I like KDE a little more now :p [19:08] It was extremely controversial at the time, because Qt was an almost completely proprietary toolkit [19:08] on Linux Qt was dual licensed, GPL and the Qt license. On anything else Qt only used the Qt license. [19:08] Did you know that Gnome was started because of KDE and Qt? [19:09] KDE was around before Gnome [19:09] I didn't know that either :) [19:09] Some freedom loving hippies declared that even though Qt used the GPL on Linux, it wasn't free enough [19:09] that makes it even more ironic that Ubuntu is moving to Qt then [19:09] yeah [19:09] so they used GTK, the GIMP Toolkit, to create a new desktop environment [19:09] i get the whole freedom thing though [19:10] it is quite a big deal [19:11] But KDE and Trolltech (the company behind Qt) had an agreement that if ever Trolltech went under, or something somehow happened to Qt, KDE would be able to fork the last known good version of Qt and carry on with it without fear of litigation or other harm [19:11] seriously? Trolltech? [19:11] But if you ask Richard Stallman, which is more free, the GPL or the LGPL, his answer is always, "the GPL" [19:11] wasn't Nokia involved somewhere.. [19:12] I think I dislike Richard Stallman a little :) [19:12] He pushes idealistic things which are not so practical, and complains a lot about Ubuntu [19:12] he has good intentions, but they don't seem to work in the real world much [19:12] Yes, Trolltech was bought out by Nokia when they started heading in the Linux Phone direction. Then they got Mr Microsoft on board, and essentially tried to ditch Qt [19:13] Cantide: yeah, my thoughts exactly [19:13] lol [19:13] in an ideal world i'd like him a bit more [19:13] which is also why I don't have an issue with the KDE/Qt thing either. The KDE guys saw this awesome GUI toolkit and it was GPL on Linux, so they went for it [19:14] also, it's nice and light [19:14] and very flexible and portable [19:14] Anyone who uses GTK and Qt will tell you that Qt rocks their socks and GTK sucks. [19:14] so hey, if it works well for what it should do, why make a fuss about it [19:15] lol [19:15] well, just playing around with the Ubuntu SDK and making some small, albeit pointless apps, i can see how nicely it scales [19:15] and how light and fast it is [19:16] yeah, QML is a fantastic idea [19:16] also, the Ubuntu buttons and such are really beautiful imho - they did a really good job [19:16] I still haven't gotten stuck into it properly yet, but I love the ideas [19:16] toggles, sliders... everything... i like them all [19:16] i even like orange now! [19:20] Cantide: QSS - Qt Style Sheets. Just like CSS, only works in Qt apps [19:20] :3 [19:24] still lacking credible ideas for the app showdown [19:24] perhaps the easiest is a little game of sorts T-T [19:25] i am out of here for now, later all [19:29] cheers magespawn '< [19:48] hi [19:51] hello '-'/ [20:05] seems the only stable connection I have is a local connection === space_ is now known as Space
