[14:10] yes [14:10] i try to login and i get the message unable to launch startxfce4 [14:13] i cant do nothing with the laptop [14:14] caodepalha: Have you tried the xfce session? [14:14] caodepalha: did you try another user? [14:15] how do i do iti-m the only user [14:15] xfce session dissapeared [14:20] Hello. I have been playing with Audacity in linux mint for months and decided to install Ubuntu Studio. I am very confused as how to simply get my mic working... from what I read I need to set up Jack but when I open qJackctl it just says "inactive" and gives me no options displayed in any guide I can find. Is there an idiots guide anywhere? [14:20] i turn on the laptop and when i get to the login screen i can log in with my account, as guest or as other. everyway i try i get the> unable to launch startxfce4 x session> startxfce4 not found falling back to default session [14:30] mossyfunk, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/HowTos [14:31] But for Audacity it should work in any way. How do you connect your mic? [14:31] cub, thanks for responding. That is where I have been looking, but Jack will not start [14:32] It is connected via M-Audio fast track box connected to pc via usb [14:32] in sound settings I can see the input is getting signal from mic... just seem unable to get any applications to pick up signal [14:35] sry, I'm on work laptop now so I can't check properly. Hopefully someone can jump in? [14:35] mossyfunk, ^ [14:35] cub, oh ok thanks though =) [14:38] can anyone help me_ [14:40] caodepalha: I missed your answer before probably [14:40] i turn on the laptop and when i get to the login screen i can log in with my account, as guest or as other. everyway i try i get the> unable to launch startxfce4 x session> startxfce4 not found falling back to default session [14:41] caodepalha: Ah, the xfce user settings are probably corrupt [14:41] caodepalha: delete some files in your user dir [14:41] caodepalha: like ~/.cache ~/.config [14:41] ok i problaby deleted some files yesterday [14:41] could be others [14:41] where can i do that_ [14:42] caodepalha: reboot in recovery mode [14:42] rm -r /home//.config [14:42] and so on [14:42] this will delete user settings for other stuff too [14:43] ok ive done that. im at the recovery menu [14:43] so, if you want to only delete XFCE configs/cache, you need to look for them [14:43] how can i look for them in the recovery menu_ [14:45] theres resume, clean, dpkg, fsck, grub, network, root, system summary [14:45] caodepalha: root [14:45] might be its write protected [14:45] you could start with network, then root [14:46] i write my username as i have it on the log in screen with capitals and space_ [14:47] caodepalha: root is a user [14:47] caodepalha: root has the power to write to any file [14:47] if you choose root, you login as root [14:47] not as the user [14:47] okok [14:48] as root you can run any command [14:48] so now im logged as root [14:48] could you tell me what command i should write [14:49] caodepalha: whats your username? [14:49] ls /home [14:49] will show the usernames [14:49] ok just found my username [14:50] biggest dummie [14:50] im sorry [14:50] replace with your username in the next command [14:51] rm -r /home//.config /home//.cache [14:51] i got a cannot remove read only [14:51] make sure its not read only next time. Enable network next time [14:52] to exit, write: exit [14:58] im in network mode [15:00] after enabeling network i must restart_ [15:13] how do i start with network [15:22] caodepalha: Just network in the menu [15:22] I'll be back [15:33] now i cant even get to the recovery menu [15:36] when i start the desktop and press f11 it sends me to the login panel [15:38] caodepalha: shift is what gets you to the GRUB menu [15:39] keep pressing shift while booting [15:39] then choose the kernel with recovery mode [15:39] ok done it [15:39] back at the recovery menu [15:40] choose network. that should make things writable [15:40] then root [15:40] then.. [15:40] rm -r /home//.config /home//.cache [15:40] choose network. plugins loadind [15:40] loanig [15:41] loading [15:41] should i get any message when its finnished [15:42] You should get back to the menu [15:42] by restarting [15:43] this keyboard is not good so i cant use the question mark [15:43] how do i get back to the menu [15:44] after selecting network, you should get back to the menu or the command line [15:44] it has changed a bit between releases [15:45] before selecting network it just stays there [15:46] after [15:56] still there [16:12] please any helphere [16:12] im sorry [16:13] hi [16:18] hi everyone i really need some elp ere. when i turnned my laptop this morning and tried to log in my user account o got the message> unable to lauch startxfce4> startxfce4 not found> falling back to default session.
