x5ivesI'm following this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto to burn a lubuntu desktop image to a CD-R. I've tried it once but when I went to check the disc for defects it it just hung on the lubuntu loading splash screen. I'm attempting to try again with a new disc at the slowest speed possible. There are 9 burning speed options, the first one is 'Maximum speed', the other 8 are all '423.4x (CD)', from what I've been 01:03
x5ivesOoops, accidentally closed by chat.01:06

holsteinx5ives: where did you get the lubuntu iso? the 13.04 iso?01:56
holsteinx5ives: did you confirm the md5?01:56
holstein!md501:56
ubot93To verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows01:56
holsteinx5ives: i typically verify discs by trying them. and test them if there is an issue01:57
holsteinx5ives: i would try just booting the lubuntu dixk01:57
holsteindisk*01:57
holsteinx5ives: that "verify" step takes a while01:58
x5ivesI have checked the md5 of the iso, it is 13.04 and I got it from Best Buy.02:01
x5ivesJust kidding, I got it here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/GetLubuntu02:01
x5ivesThe md5 matched.02:01
holsteinx5ives: if the sum is good, then just try booting the live desktop02:01
x5ivesI did, it booted.02:01
holsteinx5ives: then, you can decide if you want to alert the lubuntu team about the issue and/or file a bug, after you get someone to confirm that02:02
x5ivesConfirm what?02:02
holsteinx5ives: that the "verify" step in the installer doesnt work.. or didnt work for you02:03
x5ivesWell, how do I get someone else to confirm it?02:03
holsteinx5ives: ?02:04
x5ivesYes?02:05
x5ivesYou said after I get someone to confirm, how do I go about doing that?02:05
holsteinx5ives: you would say to someone "hey, do you have the latest lubntu iso? if not, would you mind downloading it from *insertlink* and test the verify step and see if it works for you?"02:05
holsteinx5ives: otherwise, you can look for a bug about it.. or just use the CD.. its obviously fine02:06
x5ivesI'm pretty sure if it didn't work for anyone they would know about it and have fixed it by now.02:07
holsteinx5ives: why?02:07
x5ivesIt would have been reported by now.02:07
x5ivesAges ago.02:07
holsteinx5ives: i have installed lubuntu plenty.. at least a few times each release since 10.04 or before. and i have *never* tried that step02:07
holsteinx5ives: thats why i suggested searching for a bug relating to it02:08
x5ivesI did a Google search.02:08
holsteinotherwise.. i would get someone to confirm, so you know its not just somehting about your machine02:08
x5ivesPeople at #lubuntu told my if the integrity check won't work the disk is corrupted and I shouldn't try to install with it.02:09
holsteinx5ives: as stated.. this is what i do.. since i know my internet02:10
holsteini download. i burn, i use.. *if* i have an issue, i check the md5 sum.. then i might run that integrity check02:10
holsteinotherwise, if the cd is booting, i would try using it02:10
holsteinyou obviously have a working disk.. and you arent getting an error message about the disk.. the test is either not working, or soething about your system is throwing it off02:11
holsteinwhat would i do? try the disk..02:11
x5ivesAlright then.02:14
x5ivesWorked, thanks.05:14
rostamHI I have installed a Ubuntu 12.04 system on one of my PCs. Over last a few months I have installed many different packages on that system. Now I would like to install a second system with exact image and packages that I installed on the first one. Is there a utility or a way I can automate this process? thx12:55

ubot93UEFI is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware, it is meant as a replacement for the BIOS.
