[06:07] Hello. [06:08] Русские есть? [08:17] hi everyone [08:17] i need some help here with jack configuration. can anyone help? [08:23] caodepalha, maybe, what's your question? [08:24] hi thanks. i just need to know what values should i put in jack to get sound out of my guitar [08:24] How is the guitar connected? [08:24] in the setup [08:24] guitar is connected to the laptop line in [08:25] microphone [08:26] I had all this going smoothly before but i fooled around too much and had to reinstall ubuntustudio [08:26] ok so it was working and now it's not? Because I was thinking if the guitar actually put out enough to work in the laptop microphone input [08:27] it was working fine till yesterday. i erased some critical files and had to reainstall it all over again [08:28] i mean ubuntu studio [08:28] now i have it all working but cant get my guitar to sound [08:28] ok. And in Jack, can you chose your sound card there? [08:28] driver? [08:29] if its the driver i have some choices yes. currently in alsa [08:30] No I was thinking of the Input/Output dropdown: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToJACKConfiguration?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=Audigy2ZSJACKSettings.png [08:30] Input device [08:30] yes [08:31] hda intel [08:31] conexant analog [08:31] ok [08:31] and default [08:31] what should i choose? [08:32] Since you connect directly to the computer input I would say HDA Intel [08:32] done! [08:33] and what about the output? [08:33] The same, as I suppose you have put speakers or headphones to the pc output? [08:33] yes headphones [08:33] ok done [08:34] anything on the parameters? [08:34] Was Default the choice before it might not make any difference as the Intel probably was default anyway. [08:34] most likely default would work just to get sound. After that you can chose to play with different settings [08:35] i had good setting before. i found it in some tutorial a cant seem to find again [08:35] I don't have a Ubuntu Studio in front of me right now so I'm not able to test the same settings myself [08:35] my latency is 4msec [08:36] anything on the buffer? its set to 3 [08:36] sample rate 48000 [08:36] frames 64 [08:36] realtime unchecked [08:36] let me boot up a US myself [08:36] ok [08:37] after Jack, what application do you use? [08:37] Guitarix? Ardour? Audacity? Other? [08:38] rack [08:38] rakarrack [08:38] guitarix [08:38] ardour [08:38] no sound in any of them? [08:39] rakarrack whan i play the guitar shows volume meters [08:39] it gets some action [08:40] but not on my headphones [08:40] ok, but you can't hear anything [08:40] yes [08:40] right [08:41] HAve you checked alsamixer so the output is not muted? [08:42] yes [08:45] ok some sound is coming out i guess [08:45] full of glitches [08:45] Hmm I can't check more from here, I'm on a Mac running US in virtualbox and my Jack is acting up. So I can't run Rakarack to see what it looks like. Sorry. Hoepfully someone else can step in? [08:45] man you been helpfull [08:46] i get a lot of glitches now [08:46] maybe is about the paramenters on jack? [08:46] hehe always something ;) [08:47] could be. Try with different settings with sample rates and so on. [08:47] anything on the buffer? it was set to 3 [08:48] "The default settings for jack are to run at 48000hz with a buffersize of 1024 frames per second and a period size of 2. " [08:49] ok but i get a latency of 42.7 msec [08:50] it just wont work with period size 2 [08:50] it freezes [08:51] i have to reboot now cause jack wont even start [08:51] back in a sec [09:16] hi everyone got an issue here help needed [09:16] my ubuntu studio menu got all mixed [09:17] don't know how it happened [09:19] my ubundu studio menu got all mixed. aplications are not segmented [09:20] caodepalha, do you mean the menu on the left with the Ubuntu Studio icon= [09:20] ? [09:21] If you go to that menu, then Settings -> Main Menu. In the window that opens there is a button in the lower right corner "Restore System Configuration". [09:21] Try that one and see if it's goes back to normal. [09:22] yes sorry was not here [09:26] on the upper top icon now it says no aplications found [09:27] i dont even have a menu now [09:27] :S [09:29] now i have nothing on the menu [09:31] wow :D [09:32] Actually, from the issues you've had the last few days. Wouldn't it be easier to just reinstall Ubuntu Studio? Make backups of your /home and restore. [09:33] I know it's not the Linux way to reinstall..but you have some really weird stuff going on with your computer and putting a lot of time to fix things. [09:34] Though, there might be a terminal way to get the menu back, but I'm not familiar with how to do it. [09:48] caodepalha, can you open a terminal and run "alacarte"? It's the program I referred to from Settings - Main Menu [12:05] Hi all, can anyone advise or have a link on how to get rid of video tearing issues in XFCE 4.10? [12:06] Oh:( [12:07] Want to install US 13.04 but can't do with the tearing... [12:11] Well thanks guys, proper helpful... [12:35] Already left, but I suppose the tearing question would have got a better response in #xubuntu or #xfce [16:14] Is there any reason I should leave ubuntu studio semi stock install and dual boot normal buntu as everyday screwing about install? Like is studio set up differently nuts and bolts wise or is it just the wm and included software? [16:15] mossyfunk: you use it for audio? [16:15] linux-lowlatencz, realtime privileges. that's about it [16:15] linux-lowlatency* [16:16] xequence, mainly audio... i'm also playing with blender and trying my hand at web design [16:18] mossyfunk: Only audio needs those settings [16:18] ahh ok [16:19] is low latency kernel and realtime privileges likely to cause issues with other everyday usage? [16:19] mossyfunk: IF you install jack, choose yes for realtime privilege, then add yourself to audio group - that takes care of realtime privilege [16:19] You need realtime privilege to get decent performance from jack [16:20] if you do any kind of live processing, i.e. play a synth or use a virtual amp, you'll need linux-lowlatency [16:22] xequence, ok thanks =) [16:23] I'm finding a few things kinda buggy... like pulse at random refuses to use anything but dummy output until I restart [16:35] Hi to all, good day, I have a question. When Installed UbuntuStudio 13.04 check not ask password at the beginning, but now for my security need this behavior, do you can helpe to activate this [16:43] wachin: try #7 http://xubuntu.org/news/faq-1204-precise/ [16:43] Ok [16:56] There is not info, of how chosse session at the begin UbuntuStudio [16:57] wachin: you can choose "xfce" or "lxde" or "openbox" session from the menu on the login screen [16:58] assuming you have them installed.. and that is what you are asking about [16:58] Hi holstein, thanks [17:01] happens is that when I turn ON the PC do not appears to set the password to gain entry. It happened because when I installed 13.04 UbuntuStudio dial automatically enter without asking password, but now I want that feature for the safety of my PC, so that nobody into on my account [17:02] I do not find this info in Google [17:02] wachin: did you read #7 at the link i provided? [17:02] for XFCE or UbuntuStudio [17:03] wachin: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5981891/ [17:03] I go to search other wise [17:03] wachin: xubuntu and ubuntu both use XFCE.. that link, and the paste that i gave you should work [17:05] Now I go to open lightdm.conf [17:06] you'll need to do more that open it [17:06] this is to disable the autologin that you enabled and are trying to disable [17:07] sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf [17:07] gksudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf [17:07] edit as mentioned in the paste and the link i gave [17:08] Thanks [17:12] My file said http://paste.ubuntu.com/5981917/ [17:14] I think I should delete my username "wachin" but not to do what name put [17:15] wachin: back that up. "as is" .. then you can always revert [17:15] then, make that look like the text i gave in the link and the paste [17:15] I go [17:16] you can try commenting out [17:16] autologin-user= [17:24] ok [17:24] I save the file, now I go to Reboot [17:30] Holstein thanks, Working Fine [17:30] wachin: enjoy! [17:30] I think this information should be available on the Web [17:30] wachin: i gave you the link [17:31] it *is* on the web [17:31] But not with pictures, but not easy to understand. Only for you I to know how to make this (Bery thanks) [17:32] wachin: things change.. the wikis are publically editable.. [17:32] Ohh, [17:32] Now I go to this place [17:34] Right now I'm preparing all the information you gave me to make a tuto with pictures, I w [17:34] Right now I'm preparing all the information you gave me to make a tuto with pictures, I wanted to climb to Wordpress, but if I you said to upload on Wiki is bestanted to climb to Wordpress, but if I can get on Wiki best [17:34] ups [17:35] I wanted to climb to Wordpress, but if I you said to upload on Wiki is best [17:35] Ok [17:36] I go to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio [17:36] right [17:42] :) [18:13] hi! [18:13] o/ [18:14] i'm trying to install ubuntu studio 13.04 from debootstrap but i can't find the correct sources.list anywhere... [18:14] have you got a link? [18:15] brody_: its the same as the main ubuntu ones [18:15] brody_: there are no "ubuntustudio" specific sources [18:15] oh [18:15] great, that explains my difficulties [18:15] http://repogen.simplylinux.ch/ might do the trick [18:15] so just the metapackages right? [18:15] yup... its confusing, but really.. ubuntustudio *is* ubuntu [18:16] ok many thanks [18:16] brody_: sure.. no worries.. good luck with the debootstrap! [18:16] yeah... normal installer doesn't work because of EFI [18:17] !uefi [18:17] UEFI is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware, it is meant as a replacement for the BIOS. For information on how to set up and install Ubuntu and its derivatives on UEFI machines please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI [18:17] ^^ not that ive had any hardware to play with first-hand [18:17] sure you've seen all that though [18:18] yeah i've had a hard time with all this :) [18:18] debootstrap + bootrepair works fine [18:18] im tring to avoid getting the hardware, because of what i have heard [18:19] do avoid it [18:19] it's terrible [18:20] brody_: its cheaper though.. and if someone donates one my way, i'll be dealing with it [18:21] for learning purposes is ok [18:22] but do not mess with it if you have deadlines, you can easily lose a couple of days trying to make it work [18:22] i bet! [18:22] allow me to spam a channel at you, and then i must be on my way [18:23] #opensourcemusicians [18:23] do i need backports/partner/extras? [18:23] brody_: you dont 'need' them for the default install if you want them.. [18:23] looks a channel i should join [18:23] i would just get it up, and then add those as needed [18:24] ok [19:17] hi, does anybody knows how to access Python on Ubuntu?
