=== SonikkuAmerica is now known as ColRobertHogan === ColRobertHogan is now known as SonikkuAmerica [07:16] I have no Sound Preferences. How to install it? [07:49] I don't understand how volume control works. I see gray speaker icon in the tray, and when I right-click on it a menu pop-ups, and to top menu item reads: [07:50] Volume Control Settings [07:50] but when I click on it, instead of opening any control settings, a new black speaker icon appears in the trat [07:50] so now I have 2 icons there: smaller and gray, and bigger and black [07:51] wth? [07:51] Open terminal, type alsamixer [07:52] wut? :) [07:52] I try to understand LXDE [07:53] Menu > Accessories > LXterminal [07:55] Unit193: of course, thank you for trying to help, but this is inappropriate [07:55] its like switching channels in sattelite instead of a receiver [07:55] What about pulseaudio and pavucontrol at least? [07:56] Lubuntu has alsa by default, but if you have more than a basic setup you may be better off with it, yeah. [07:57] Unit193: I have LXDE desktop. And my question is about how can I configure sound settings here [07:58] Yes. [07:59] I see a gray speaker icon in the tray, where "Volume control" menu item breeds one more black speaker icon [07:59] if I open that menu again and click Volume control item one more time... [08:00] nothing happens [08:00] Now if I right click that new black speaker icon, I see another menu with two items: [08:01] Mute, Sound prefrences [08:01] Clicking the sound preferences opens up a new window, similar to Gnome/Unity System Settings [08:02] But instead of tens of icons in there, I see only few: Lanugage Support, Printers, Software & Updates [08:02] and no Sound Settings [10:18] How can I disable showing ScreeSaver lock scree when switching to another user which session is already running? [10:37] Does Lubuntu support configuring xrandr to use Dual Monitors? [10:37] Currently I have same image on both monitors [11:14] Hellooooo [12:51] OnkelTem: I *think* you need grandr or arandr for that [13:56] phillw: thanks, arandr did the job! Does it save changes between sessions? [13:58] OnkelTem: i believe it does. [13:59] I've only ever used lxrandr as I've only had to link to a projector. I do know that arandr is more 'powerful', but it also uses more resources :) [14:01] * OnkelTem is thinking about purchasing Sublime Text [14:04] phillw: but for it work I need to place arandr into autostart? [14:17] do you want arandr to autostart? [14:17] if so, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1984904 has a discussion on that. [14:17] I want the effect of applying arandr to be persistant _ [14:17] :) [16:05] hello. how can I enable hdmi audio on a cedar trail mobo with (l)ubuntu 12.04 ? [16:12] hello. how can I enable hdmi audio on a cedar trail mobo with (l)ubuntu 12.04 ? I can see the HDMI device with aplay -l but I don't see it with alsamixer [16:18] faLUCE: I think you need the pulseaudio / pavucontrol duo for hdmi sound [16:18] i launched pavucontrol, but I don't see hdmi in the combo [16:19] have you installed pulseaudio? [16:19] phillw: yes [16:19] and it's running [16:20] faLUCE: it seems you can use alsa for hdmi sound.. http://askubuntu.com/questions/285624/ubuntu-13-04-not-detect-the-hdmi-sound-output [16:22] faLUCE: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2147651 has a decent discussion on the subject. I don't use hdmi sound, so can only point you to where to get information. [16:22] phillw: thanks, all solved [16:23] using alsa or pulseaudio ? === brendy is now known as ianorlin [18:13] hmm [18:14] what? [18:17] Trying to configure extended dual displays [18:17] with a resolution difference [18:17] but my primary no longer has lxpanel [18:19] so im guessing I can't have one display resolution larger than the other, they both have to be the same for lxpanel to work :( [18:22] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/MultiDisplay this is really all I can find searcihng online for the subject [18:24] it's just disorientating is all [18:24] ive got it working but you know how typically if you setup dual displays on winblows, your second extended monitor has no taskbar...its just another workspace really? [18:24] this is the first time i've bothered trying it in linux-based, so i wasn't expecting the whole taskbar to be stretched across [18:26] ianorlin, i've already pretty much used a similar document [18:27] maybe try putting pannel alignment to center in panel settings [18:31] nope [18:31] what is the width set to? [18:32] i already changed that before you said something but it still has the gap below the window for the panel [18:32] curse you linux [18:32] hit f11 can make it fullscreen [18:33] hide panel when not in use is a better solution >_> [18:33] or actually..hmm [18:33] csc`: >> I grabbed the liveCD and booted it up. I installed arandr and got dual head via a gui. I set lxpanel to 50% and selected the really wide desperado wallpaper. Not bad... not bad at all.  [18:33] -Hinto << [18:33] phillw, that's not the problem [18:33] found that on a forum area [18:34] the original issue was how I could have two separate resolutions [18:34] without lxpanel messing up [18:34] arandr should allow that? [18:34] ...arandr isn't the problem. [18:34] lxpanel is. [18:35] Hi [18:35] you initially said the task bar was stretched across both screens? [18:35] when i set the resolution to the other monitor above 1024x768, it decides to not show lxpanel at all on the main screen [18:35] phillw, that was just a nitpick complaint, the real issue is the one above [18:37] what's happening is lxpanel is still displaying and is taking priority on the higher resolution [18:37] since this is a laptop, using the secondary monitor for the taskbar is very disorientating [18:38] there we go [18:40] only way to remedy it is to have the panel on the top of the screen instead of the bottom [18:41] I've only used xrandr for mirroring to a projector, so I've no experience with what you're attempting... sorry. [18:43] you don't even need that to mirror [18:43] mirroring is plug and play [18:44] I turned it on using lxrandr, the slimmed down version of arandr that ships with lubuntu. [18:45] There was no tool to extend displays out of the box in lubuntu that i could see [18:46] csc`: correct, lxrandr just does mirroring, you need arandr for using a second monitor as extended display area. [18:48] heh the way i've got it setup at the moment, if I decide to unplug this monitor i have no lxpanel =3 [22:44] Unit193, what pages can midori not render properly [22:44] The second one from the left, fourth one down.
