HelenaKittyHello, has Ubuntu Touch become stable for the nexus 7 yet?! Last time I tried it the graphics driver was buggy, it'd be nice to use Ubuntu on the Nexus 7.18:26
nhainesYour best bet is probably to backup your Nexus 7 and see if Ubuntu meets your standards.18:27
HelenaKittynhaines: When I used Ubuntu Touch on my Nexus 7 it was just a preview release. I want to know if it's official now.18:32
nhainesNo, the release is in October.18:33
HelenaKitty:D18:34
HelenaKittyThat's brill!18:34
HelenaKittynhaines: THat's £$%^&* AMAZING!!!18:34
nhainesIt's getting pretty nice!  Although indicators seem to be undergoing some development at the moment.18:34
nhainesI'm hoping they get HUD working soon.  That's the one thing that really concerns me.  That and the People lens.18:35
HelenaKittynhaines: Yeah I plan on using the Nexus 7 as a stealthy penetration testing device.18:44
HelenaKittyLast time I tried the graphics driver was buggy but I managed to get a tiling WM working with onscreen keyboard.18:45
nhainesOnce they flip the images to Mir, I'd imagine that'd be easier.18:45
HelenaKittynhaines: Mir?18:50
nhainesHelenaKitty: the nex-generation display server that will replace X on the desktop and surfaceflinger on Android-based phones.18:52
HelenaKittyWTF?!18:54
HelenaKittyMy Nexus 7 has no recovery mode?!18:54
=== Nitrodex is now known as Guest36251
wilee-nileeHelenaKitty, the nexus has a stock recovery, and generally if it has been rooted the cyanogenmod recovery (the rom manager in android) is installed and used or the twrp part of that app19:06
wilee-nileeand please no swearing acronyms19:06
wilee-nileeyou have to have the boot unlocked to get to the recovery, I assume you know the key presses to get to the boot.19:09
markusN00bHi, I just broke my Nexus 4. What can I do?19:21
markusN00bI was trying to install ubuntu touch but the flash gave me:19:22
markusN00b> INFO:phablet-flash:Clearing /data and /cache19:22
markusN00b> error: device not found19:22
markusN00b> ERROR:phablet-flash:Command 'adb shell mount /data' returned non-zero exit status 25519:22
markusN00bTherefore I tried to get back android (build jwr66y)19:22
markusN00bFailed as well:19:22
markusN00b> critical error: extent_create_backing: calloc: Cannot allocate memory19:22
markusN00b> mmap: Invalid argument19:22
markusN00b> Cannot generate image.19:22
markusN00b> FAILED ()19:22
markusN00bTo overcome my goofiness I re-plugged the USB cable. This made adb to no longer find my device.19:23
markusN00bI guess I ultimately destroyed the device?19:23
markusN00b(I no longer can boot Android - Only the "X" is flashing)19:23
markusN00b(Also recovery mode gives me the "dead robot" )19:24
markusN00bsorry for the long post19:24
nhainesmarkusN00b: this is a good time to learn about pastebin.ubunt.com  :)19:32
nhainesErr, pastebin.ubuntu.com.  Which is the best way to paste logs like that here.19:32
nhainesI think the dead robot is "normal" for recovery mode.  Get a good /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules file, that should help with both flashing Ubuntu and flashing Android.19:34
nhainesmarkusN00b: try this one: http://ubuntuone.com/4IlVG6WzbMwqoBaD05UWMZ19:35
markusN00bnhaines: Thanks for the suggestion. However, it is still not working.19:42
nhainesmarkusN00b: unplug your phone, plug it back in, and then run 'dmesg | tail' and paste that here (using a pastebin).19:42
markusN00bhttp://pastebin.ubuntu.com/6022580/19:44
nhainesSUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="18d1", ATTR{idProduct}=="4ee1", MODE="0600", OWNER="nhaines"19:46
nhainesAdd that line to your 51-android.rules file, naturally change my username for yours.19:46
markusN00balready done. I also restarted the adb server19:46
markusN00b'adb devices' still gives no device, though19:47
nhainesYou don't have to restart the adb server.  You do have to replug the phone.19:47
nhaines(udev reads the rules file each time you add a device.)19:47
markusN00bI think the problem is that I somehow need to activate the "Debug USB" option?! (Unfortunately I can not do this because I'd need to start android in the fist place)19:49
nhainesNo, you don't need to do this because it's only applicable to the OS (which isn't running).19:49
nhainesThe problem is that adb isn't detecting your device.  This is usually because udev isn't configured properly.19:50
nhainesWhat's the ownership and permissions on your /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules file?19:50
nhainesShould be: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2369 Aug 21 00:21 51-android.rules19:50
markusN00b-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2289 Aug 24 21:51 51-android.rules19:57
VirgilHallo, I have a question... Is it possible to install applications like Gimp in this phase of development?20:02
nhainesVirgil: it can be installed, but it won't run.20:03
VirgilEeh... thank you. :)20:04
nhainesYou're welcome.20:04
nhainesIt won't run because there's no X.  I'm not sure what would happen once Mir is running and XMir, but I doubt it will work then either.20:05
maximilian_hey, who is responsible for the release notes wiki page. The contacts part is outdated and the files that it points at do not exist in the current images... I'm talking about the manage-address-books.py script and the /usr/share/demo-assets/contacts-data/data.csv file which I wanted to have a look at to import contacts...20:12
markusN00bnhaines: Lol. I executed './fastboot-linux flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img' and then wiped data and cache. Now 'adb devices' gives me sth. *shrug*20:24
nhainesyay!20:24
nhainesmarkusN00b: in that case, the previous recovery didn't support extended commands is the most likely answer.  But the best thing is that it works now and you can use the phone again.  :)20:25
markusN00bI will follow the steps @ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install#Restoring_Android again. Maybe they will work and I get Android back, at least.20:26
nhainesmarkusN00b: If 'adb reboot-bootloader' works, you're in the clear.20:27

mattnicolehi all, trying to follow instructions on this page ( https://plus.google.com/100264483712374857174/posts/3o1tjYo9Ghx)  to get data up and running23:02
mattnicolenoticed a comment saying instructions are outdated23:02
Aaron1011Hello. I have a couple questions about flashing Ubuntu Touch to my Nexus 723:20
wilee-nileeAaron1011, post them fir help.23:22
wilee-nileefor23:22
Aaron1011First, I have the new 2013 model of the Nexus 723:23
Aaron1011Can I install Ubuntu Touch on it?23:23
antisockyokay so I'm looking for the dev image for the n4 :3 haha23:23
wilee-nileeAaron1011, I would think so its not much different than the early one, backup what you have and follow the instructions. The touch is in development so be aware of that.23:25
Aaron1011Second, I noticed that on the Ubuntu Wiki page for installing Ubuntu Touch, it lists multiple options for the phablet-flash command23:25
Aaron1011cdimage-touch, cdimage-legacy, ubuntu-system, community23:25
Aaron1011What is the difference between the different options?23:25
Aaron1011wilee-nilee: Ok, thanks!23:26
wilee-nileeAaron1011, Can you link me to that page23:26
Aaron1011Ok, hold on a minute23:27
Aaron1011wilee_nilee: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install#Step_4_-_Downloading_.26_Deploying_Image_to_Device23:27
Aaron1011wilee-nilee:23:27
antisockymmm... okay so I've got the zip and the boot img i just flash these via ADB and install via twrp?23:28
wilee-nileeAaron1011, "cdimage-touch|cdimage-legacy|ubuntu-system|community" Are types of installs, you would use the appropriate one.23:32
wilee-nileeAaron1011, For example there is a 13.10 install besides the touch.23:33
wilee-nilee13.10 is the ubuntu desktop OS23:34
Aaron1011Ah, okay23:34
Aaron1011What is the difference between cdimage-touch and community?23:34
mattnicoleany tips on getting data working on tmobile?23:35
mattnicolei have touch installed23:35
mattnicolefollowed instructions here: https://plus.google.com/100264483712374857174/posts/3o1tjYo9Ghx23:35
mattnicoleend up with "unknown connection" error23:36
wilee-nileeAaron1011, Not sure myself with those two without googling for info.23:36
mattnicole(in US)23:36
Aaron1011wilee-nilee: Okay23:36
Aaron1011It seems to me that I will want to use cdimage-touch23:36
wilee-nileeAaron1011, you are correct that is what the phablet ppa load download will give you.23:38
Aaron1011wilee-nilee: Okay. Thanks for all of your help!23:38
wilee-nileeAaron1011, No problem, it can be confusing at first, I just happen to have a nexus 7 as well, but have found it a bit early to use these as of now for me.23:39
antisockyI flashed all the files and tried installing via twrp and hello it failed? I did something wrong didn't I?23:40
