[04:55] hi...will Lubuntu work on Pentium III with 256 ram and what version is latest LTS [06:20] hi...so Lubuntu does not have a LTS release...? [06:21] me-1: http://askubuntu.com/questions/202844/when-will-the-next-lts-version-of-lubuntu-be-released [08:09] hi all, can any one show me how can i find the discription about details of bootup lubuntu, including first boot file(shell script) changing environment. thanks a lot [08:10] !upstart [08:10] Upstart is meant to replace the old Sys V Init system with an event-driven init model. For more information please see: http://upstart.ubuntu.com/ [08:12] does event-driver init model means event.d? [08:12] my / filesystem doesn't have than folder. [08:13] im using lxde filesystem. how can i found the first shell script [08:18] qingluo1, maybe you should explain what you want to do [08:22] im compare two root filesystem which one is based lxde, while another is based busybox. lxde's can initial serial port and VGA as shell . but the busybox one just can initial one of them to a shell input. i wanna to get understand how it acomplish such function. besides, they use same kernel lubuntu image [08:23] !lxde [08:23] LXDE ( http://lxde.org/ ) is the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment used by !Lubuntu. To install from Ubuntu: « sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop ». See http://lubuntu.net/ for more information, and join #lubuntu for support. [08:23] !filesystem [08:23] An explanation of how files and directories are organized on Ubuntu, and how they can be manipulated, can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LinuxFilesystemTreeOverview see also: man hier [08:24] as you can see, LXDE isn't a filesystem, it's a desktop environment [08:26] o sorry about my bad discription. i'm using linaro alip's workout [08:27] which top layer based on lxde. [08:32] is there anyway to find the bootup order in a nonstandard root filesystem? except follow source code(it seems a little big work) [09:33] has anyone tried Trisquel? it is basically Lubuntu without the Ubuntu bloat, advertising and proprietary stuff [09:33] and its based on Ubuntu LTS [09:33] what's then this ubuntu bloat? [09:35] Ubuntu needs at least 1GB RAM and 1GHz CPU, and has bloat like Zeitgeist to better cater the advertising bloat to make you buy stuff found on Ubuntu One, Ubuntu Software Center, Amazon, Rythmbox...etc [09:36] so, how is this then no-bloat when it's based on ubuntu lts [09:36] * bioterror does not understand [09:37] ask them on #trisquel [09:37] bbl i just downloaded lubuntu :P [09:51] bioterror: we have an LTS?... when did that sneak out? :P [09:52] it's always better to use LTS ubuntu than live on the moment ;) [09:58] bioterror: Well, as lubuntu do not have an LTS, I'd not touch it with a barge pole :D 13.10 is looking quite good as our alpha for 14.04 :P [12:16] oh my, it's bioterror [13:33] Installed lubuntu alongside windos. Now i dont need windows anymore. How do i recover the disk space allocated to windows? Is there a way to do it without reinstalling lubuntu (using entire disk this time)? === lordsame is now known as SergioMeneses [17:19] hi, Ubuntu run fine in this configuration: 2GB RAM, HDD 5400 RPM, AMD Fusion C-60 (Dual Core)? <- this is a netbook [17:27] when I try booting off a lubuntu intallation disk and select either "try lubuntu without installing" or "install lubuntu" I get the following messages "error: failure reading sector 0x4f500 from 'cd0' Press any key to continue" and then the message "0.323258] Kernal panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkown-block(0,0)" [17:29] is there something wrong with my grub? or do I need to change the way my hardrive is partitioned? [17:53] hi¨ [17:55] can you guys help me with a problem regarding installing lubuntu on an imac g5 [17:56] it crashes when I try and install [17:57] Hello [18:03] I have a laptop which I want to have connected to an external monitor 99% of the time. The other 1% I would use its screen. I want the laptop to be closed usually to save space, and to use external KB/mouse. The external monitor supports a higher resolution than the laptop screen, so I won't use screen duplication, and extended desktop is annoying when one of the monitors can't be viewed, so also out of the question. Is there a simple [18:03] way to enable the external only configuration, but that would switch to the internal monitor when the external monitor is disconnected, like regular ubuntu/windows/etc provide? What software does regular ubuntu use for this? Thanks in advance [18:13] hi [18:13] hi [18:13] lubuntu hangs when i try and install [18:14] am running from disc [18:14] on an imac g5 [18:15] are you there [18:15] (im here like you) does it hang when booting after the install, during the install, or when starting the installer? [18:15] when i launch the installer from desktop [18:16] imacg5: keep in mind that I'm not your support staff, and in fact nobody here is. [18:16] i know [18:16] sorry [18:16] imacg5: before you did anything in the installer? just the launch itself of the installer? [18:17] i boot from cd, and after a while i see the desktop [18:17] it has one icon, "install lubuntu 12.10" [18:17] i doubleclick, and it hangs [18:19] hmm [18:20] can you check disc for errors?' [18:20] while in lubuntu, or on another computer [18:20] when first booting [18:20] imacg5: just the installation or the whole computer? Are you able to press A+C+F1 to get to a tty (press A+F7 to get back to xorg afterwards)? Do you see the capslock light blink when you press capslock? [18:21] ah, that's a good idea also. [18:21] the capslock light blinks, and upon pressing a+c+f1 the fans started whirring but nothing happened [18:22] hmm [18:22] that's odd [18:23] I would do what ianorlin suggested [18:24] do i check for errors before pressing enter [18:25] when booting from disc, i press c to boot from cd and then press enter to launch lubuntu [18:27] imacg5: I don't remember how the menu looks, but I think that if you pay attention, then there is an option to check CD for defects at some point while booting. alternatively I would run md5hash on /dev/sr0 or whatever the device with the CD is (from another OS, I'm not sure whether it would work from the same OS), and compare with the posted hash [18:27] okay ill try that thanks [18:29] i don't see any way to check for errors [18:29] when you first boot up isn't there a menu? [18:30] also did you check the md5 sum of your iso? [18:30] there is a menu white text on black [18:31] but i don't see a way to check for errors [18:31] what should i write [18:32] imacg5: it is possible that you need to hold down the shift button while booting to get a menu [18:32] ah, you said there's a menu [18:32] not sure that brings up check for errors message [18:33] i do get a menu, it says welcome to lubuntu 12.10 [18:34] brb [18:34] imacg5: "md5sum " and compare to the md5 posted online where you downloaded it [18:35] in the menu? [18:35] from tty I think [18:36] imacg5: from a working machine, the one you downloaded the iso to [18:36] ianorlin: you wouldn't happen to have a clue about my question, would you? [18:37] what was your question? [18:39] ianorlin: (it was long) in short, how to have the screen layout update upon monitor in/out in a way similar to what other distros OS/s provide, and/or what other distros use to enable such functionality [18:40] um not sure about multiple monitors [18:40] I might try to find something [18:40] :() [18:41] do you have arandr [18:43] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/MultiDisplay [18:47] when I try booting off a lubuntu intallation disk and select either "try lubuntu without installing" or "install lubuntu" I get the following messages "error: failure reading sector 0x4f500 from 'cd0' Press any key to continue" and then the message "0.323258] Kernal panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkown-block(0,0)" [18:47] how can i fix this and get lubuntu to install? [18:47] have you checked for errors or is thta not on the menu [18:48] ianorlin: I do, but as far as I see it does not support automatic configuration change - only running a given configuration as a script. [18:48] no to see if the disk is good [18:49] justin__: sounds like a bad CD to me [18:50] shwouchk: I have used multiple CD's though [18:50] did you check the iso? [18:50] also burn as slow as you can [18:51] i got the iso from lubuntu.net [18:51] no the md5 sum of the iso [18:51] i didn't get to choose that, mine just went straight to the desktop, and it hangs whenever i open a new window [18:52] shwouchk: when i try to boot from kubuntu, lubuntu or ubuntu disks I have the same problems, but arch and chakra disks work fine [18:54] justin__: as ianorlin said, check md5 of the iso first please [18:54] also imacg5. [18:54] i have the md5 value of my iso file, but what do i compare that to [18:55] wiat are you using alt installer? [18:56] i was linked to this site http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/quantal/release/ [18:56] i dont see no md5 value [18:57] ianorlin: usually the page where you downloaded the iso from [18:58] has the md5 of it [18:58] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/quantal/release/ [18:58] for 12.10 [18:59] yes that is where i downloaded it from [18:59] but where do i find md5 value [19:03] imacg5: I would try to search for the word "md5" on that page [19:06] it's identical [19:09] okay thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it [19:10] gtg [19:13] so I'm redownloading a lubuntu iso directly this time and not a torrent [19:13] and then ill burn it as slow as possible [19:13] and see if i still have the same errors [22:24] so I checked the md5sum on my .iso file and it's correct and when i burned to a disk i burned as slow as possible [22:31] but i still got the same errors as before "error: failure reading sectore 0x4f500 from 'cd0'." and " 0.323258] Kernal panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) " [22:47] anyone? [23:04] hi
