[00:57] hi guys [00:57] anyone here? [01:01] does lubuntu not come with pulseaudio? [01:02] Nope. [01:02] hmm, odd [01:03] apt-get install lubuntu-desktop pulls in pulseaudio anyway [01:03] Try it with --no-install-recommends [01:04] ah, recommends, that's probably it [01:04] oh well [01:04] i was hoping it came with pulseaudio by default [01:04] dealing with bug #1178272 [01:04] bug 1178272 in gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) "Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running or cannot be started" and do not play" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1178272 [01:07] Of course you can install pulseaudio, but that doesn't help defaults. You'd think the package would then depend on it, or at least should. [01:08] the package does depend on it [01:08] well, rather it depends on gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio | gstreamer1.0-audiosink [01:08] and recommends -pulseaudio [01:08] but that's useless since lubuntu chooses not to ship pulseaudio [01:08] why doesn't it anyway? is pulseaudio that bloated a dependency? [01:09] 11MB [01:10] that's including consolekit and dbus [01:10] It's been known to cause issues with something, can't remember what. [01:10] sheesh [01:11] http://paste.openstack.org/show/9gpZSi8DJsa7GKhlbbUT hah, that's all the packages I have, don't even have pulseaudio. :P [01:12] * hyperair sighs [01:12] this is dumb. maybe i'll just pretend the issue doesn't exist, since people who insist on not having pulseaudio are stubborn pricks anyway [01:13] Well, I remember it was causing some issue on the Lubuntu computer so removed because :lazy:, this computer has pulse working fine. :D [01:14] pffft. [01:15] what's the music player in lubuntu? [01:16] Said in there, audacious or somesuch. Well, media manager, player is some mplayer UI. [01:16] right [01:16] audacious eh [01:16] doesn't use gstreamer [01:16] gnome-mplayer [01:16] neither does gnome-mplayer [01:16] bleh [01:17] so we can't exactly toss gstreamer1.0-alsa onto lubuntu-desktop [01:17] sheesh [01:18] Actually, Lubuntu is switching to firefox, and that only has gstreamer0.10 support. Not sure if that version will make it into saucy or not though. [01:18] (v25) [01:20] pidgin also depends on libgstreamer0.10-0, but only recommends gstreamer0.10-plugins-base. (In raring, that is.) [01:21] oho [01:21] does anything use gst1.0? [01:25] wget -qO- http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/current/saucy-desktop-i386.manifest | grep gst says yes, but I don't know what. [01:40] hyperair: Got it? [01:40] lemme check [01:41] hmm [01:41] no -alsa [01:41] and no gst1.0 stuff [01:41] Nope. [01:41] Well, plugins base. [01:43] libgstreamer1.0-0 and libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-0 to be exact, but that's it, so something isn't pulling in much. [02:06] oh yeah it is there [02:06] just not the plugins themselves [02:07] only the lib that loads the plugins [02:07] So something expecting gstreamer is going to have fun. :D [02:07] Anywho, do I detect a lubuntu-gstreamer? :---------D [02:19] uh metapackage? [02:19] seems counterintuitive to have a metapackage for that [02:19] the media players typically already express a dependency on the plugins they need [02:21] (Kidding. :P ) [04:24] got a problem. computer booted and now I have a screen with tabs on them, one "learn" and another "preferences". it's an odd tabbed application window. is this something new? [04:28] what in the h* happened. I have no menu now [04:28] is ubuntu playing around with a desktop look alike ubuntu? [04:28] lubuntu [04:29] anybody home [04:30] I don't know what happened [04:30] did you put something in autostart? [04:30] Did you select the "Lubuntu Netbook" login option? [04:32] nope [04:32] never [04:32] i often do a "sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" [04:33] hrm, if it's a login option i should be able to logout and log back in again [04:33] jam [04:34] lxgames option [04:34] awkward [04:34] is this a new option or did i select by hitting the wrong key? [04:35] btw, i don't recall logging in this evening after bootup [04:35] or something an installed game would have done? [04:35] I think it is there just you might not be using it === io is now known as IdleOne [09:12] hi guys im trying to bridge an connection from my wifi card to ethernet [09:14] so i can connect my xbox without having to run an ethernet cord around the house [09:15] i know this is not the best thing to do but it will do me for the time being [09:16] !ics | antisober552 [09:16] antisober552: If you want to share the internet connection of your Ubuntu machine with other machines in the network see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing [09:17] im using 13.04 is the guide the same [09:19] it should be, at least the command line way [09:20] thx :) [10:03] Hi, I installed emacs24 on my lubuntu installation and I find that the syntax highlighting doesn't work at all. It used to work fine out of the box on ubuntu and debian. What could be the issue here? [10:04] I tried activating the global font lock mode, but it says "symbol's value is void: global-font-lock-mode" [10:47] I recently upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04 via do-release upgrade. I have an NVIDIA GeForce4 Go 420 video card. The display worked perfectly fine, but after upgrade it just brings me to a flickering blue screen when booting with 3.8 kernel. When I use the old 3.5 kernel though it boots fine. Checking the Xorg logs show Kernel 3.8 uses "nouveau interface version 1.1.0" while 3.5 shows "nouveau interface version 1.0.0". [10:48] (continued) Also, Kernel 3.8 shows "(II) NOUVEAU(0): Opened GPU channel 0" while Kernel 3.5 shows "(II) NOUVEAU(0): Opened GPU channel 1". No other differences were noticed on the Xorg logs between kernels [11:00] hi [13:06] hi leszek [17:27] how can i switch between workspaces (shortcut) [17:27] also how can i see all my programs I have open so i can choose which to exit out [17:27] thanks [17:29] Ctrl+Alt+Left (or right), and there should be an application list in lxpanel... [17:30] thanks, oh i meant like have them all be seen but seperated you know?? maybe its not possible [17:30] im trying to make a usb of lubuntu will multisystem do this? [17:35] If in windows, linuxliveUSB, if in Linux, dd. [17:36] thansk [17:43] how may i move a program to another worksp [17:44] Drag, or right click title bar. [18:52] hello guys [18:52] is the way to install kerneles to ubuntu the same for lubuntu? [18:56] n-iCe: no reason for it to not be [18:57] Yeah, it's as unsupported on Lubuntu as it is Ubuntu. :-----D [18:57] n-iCe: i never used ubuntu, but i guess... ohh what the others say... :) [19:00] hi, i've lost "Desktop Session Settings" from my lubuntu menu. How do I get it back please? [19:04] sudo apt-get install lxsession-edit has helped!!!!! [19:37] heh damn i love this os on my laptop [20:32] is it ok to have JAVA insalled [20:48] Impossible: it's ok. but it's certainly not a requirement.
