loolpsivaa: would you help me relaunch the failed touch_ro tests?07:16
loolpsivaa: that is, retrying failed tests from http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/smokeng/saucy/image/3982/?sort=name which passed in http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/smokeng/saucy/image/3980/?sort=name07:16

dholbachdoes launching the g+ app work for anyone?07:49
asacdholbach: we have a g+ app?07:51
asac:)07:51
Mirvasac: morning!07:51
dholbachasac, a webapp07:51
dholbachhum, looks like none of the apps can be launched07:51
asacdholbach: ouch... which image?07:52
* ogra_ always uses G+ from the browser07:53
dholbachasac, 4.307:53
dholbachbut let me do an upgrade and see if that works07:53
ogra_i wasnt aware we had a webapp07:53
ogra_unity-webapps-qml:armhf from 0.1+13.10.20130829.2-0ubuntu1 to 0.1+13.10.20130904.2-0ubuntu107:54

asacdholbach: 4.3 is the latest available i think07:54
ogra_.3 indeed07:54
ogra_05 is due in ~30min07:55
asacdholbach: try downgrading above07:55
dholbachno, it's not related to this07:55
asacogra_: yeah... and then we have a call :)07:55

asacdholbach: mako/maguro?07:57
* asac installs latest07:57
wellsbdholbach: g+ app didn't load for me yesterday, but it does work today.  Other click apps are working here, as well08:04
asacstgraber: so can we change the : to something that is < .08:09
asac?08:09
asacstgraber: this would help us having a saner sorting08:09
asacwithout investing in a smart version semantic tool :)08:10
asacstgraber: alternatively we could change our . to something that is > : in the respin build id08:10
loolasac: it's for QA team to change this08:10
asaclool: where is the iamge version encoded in though?08:10
asaclool: whatever you deliver as a version would be nice to just sort08:11
loolasac: the version we deliver is "4"  :-)08:11
asaclool: so 4:20130904:20130903.208:11
asacis invented by QA?08:11
asacout of stuff they find in the image somewhere?08:11
loolyes, it might be based on a script stgraber provided08:11
loolI hope it's from the image itself08:11
loolthe other option would be that it's from system-image, in which case it's read twice and there's a possible race08:12
asaclool: the channel has no knowledge about version and doesnt give yo a version?08:12
OrokuSakiSo all we do to disable apparmor for all click apps... is...  remove this line ? "apparmor switch ${APP_ID}"08:12
loolasac: it does provide you with other versions08:12
asaclool: so we have the encoded 4:...:... on the image?08:12
loolasac: this is what our tools give:08:12
asacor just the 4 and the ... individually?08:13
loolasac: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6065595/08:13
loolasac: stgraber requested that we change this to "4 (ubuntu=20130904.3, grouper=20130904.3)" for clarity08:13
wellsbScratch that, g+ app seems to be intermittent.  Not working now08:13
* asac looks into the json08:13

looland sums up what we care about for testing08:14
loolasac: "utils/check-latest --channel daily-proposed mako" in lp:~ubuntu-system-image/ubuntu-system-image/server08:14

loolasac: I didn't understand your question08:14

loolasac: it's the highest "version:"08:15
OrokuSakiasac or lool.. do you know how to disable apparmor for all click apps? I have 2.6.35..08:15

asacthat confused me a bit08:16
OrokuSakiI am okay with it08:16

loolasac: in fact we have more, but we need at least two08:16
asaclool: right. i was sayuing: we have two blocks for each version08:16
asacone delta and one full08:16
loolasac: so that QA can deploy version-1 to upgrade to latest version08:16
asacright08:17
asacwe should just keep all08:17
asac:)08:17
loolasac: if you look at the output of the tool, you'll see it's also much clearer on what is what08:17
OrokuSakimaybe I should remove the override08:17
loolversion is 4, ubuntu version is so and so, and android version is so and so08:17
loolOrokuSaki: if it's just to try things out then hand-editing generated .desktop files seem best; you can confirm things work without aa-exec08:18
loolOrokuSaki: but after that you should make sure you get apparmor working08:18
loolor don't use .click packages08:18
loolpsivaa: around?08:19
OrokuSakithanks.. bu still.. eventually someone will ask... I bet its the override08:19

seb128cmake is apparently you "standard build system" and it would make easier to have free support for stuff like code coverage, cross compilation08:23

looltest_progressbar.TestProgressBarAtStartup.test_chrome_initially_shown_then_hides_when_loaded failed08:25
loolbut doubt this is realted to touch_ro08:25
jjohansenwellsb: what do the errors look like?08:26
seb128Laney, yes, tvoss and asac care enough about us changing that they are trying to get some of Satoris' time allocated to help us converting it08:26
Laneywow, OK08:26
loolpsivaa: also notes-app-autopilot08:26
Laneywell if it supports all of the normal things like PREFIX and DESTDIR and so08:27
asacseb128: well. i am not sure08:27
Laneythen +108:27
asacat best folks would just give it a try08:27
asacand convert08:27
asacif you lack a good example lets focus on getting that out08:27
Laneyalso I could do that symlink properly ...08:27
psivaalool: kicked off webbrowser and notes08:27
wellsbjjohansen: dholbach: The app does load if I wait long enough.  The apparmor reports are dbus related08:28

Mirvsil2100: here we are08:31
ogra_sil2100, everyone but asac is there :P08:31
psivaalool: we may not see the results of the ones that we kicked off.. i see there is a new build image now  and the tests are picking it up now08:32
loolpsivaa: I don't see this new image; which one is it?08:36
psivaalool: ignore me :), maguro is the one that's picking up new image. mako is still running the old image08:36
loolright08:36
loolhaven't looked at maguro yet08:36
loollooking now08:36
loolasac: standup URL?08:37
asaclool: too late08:49
asaclool: so we finiah the currening of daily-release, which will give us friends-app test08:49
asacthen move to manual publishing, then let unity8 in, ensure we go back to green08:49
asaclool: if touch_ro is at the end of the day in same state08:50

asaclets go the last few steps08:54
asaclool: do you already know about things that are understood to be different?08:55
asacmaybe start explaining :)08:55
loolasac: for maguro, two tests of difference08:56
loolasac: one I think just needs a retry08:56
loolasac: the other is the SDK tests that stgraber uploaded a fix for missing /lib/modules08:56
loolasac: sorry s/SDK/security/08:56
loolbrainbug08:56
ogra_should be in the current image08:56
ogra_should be in the current pending image08:56
ogra_:P08:56
loolasac: for mako, some tests weren't run, a couple of retries needed, and one extra test passing on _ro08:57
loologra_: right08:57
loolasac: so the only true regression is this security test which is being worked on08:57
asaclool: so we want to kick off a golden image08:57
loolasac: there's also this thread on network failures in the lab, it seems orthogonal but I can't exclude that a race condition happens more frequently with ro than with touch, but it didn't seem touch related08:58
asacthat will be the /current for the unity8 isolated landing08:58
asaccan we get the secyurity fix in byu then?08:58
loolasac: it should be in08:58
loolasac: we will see once the tests run08:58
asaclool: yeah, but the network seems to go away when retrying08:58
asacso i am sure we are willing to retry a few omre times08:58
asaclool: right. i asked psivaa to escalate in case the security thing is still failing08:58
asacin te image coming out now08:58
asacif its still failing we still have a couple hours08:59
loolasac: BTW, I think touch tests get scheduled before touch_ro tests08:59
loolanyway this is temporary08:59
psivaaasac: lool: security tests still failing in this morning's run: http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/smokeng/saucy/image/3982/security/09:00
loolpsivaa: Yup; should be fixed with android=20130903-0ubuntu209:01
loolpsivaa: or Android 20130904.3 rather09:02
loolerr no, sorry, with 0509:02
loolpsivaa: basically, should be fixed when system-image finished to import the image  :-)09:02
psivaalool: ack :)09:02
loolasac: could you bump this pxz ticket again?09:02
asaclool: they should be in parallel ... we use separate devices at last09:02
asaclool: whats the id?09:02
loolasac: I think this is the origina of the delay09:03
loolasac: #6302509:03
asaclool: you say that ticket is the cause of the security failure?09:03
loolasac: no, it's the cause of the delay to test images09:04
loolasac: because it takes 30 minutes instead of 5 to generate the xz tarballs09:04
asaclool: oh you say the images come a bit later09:04
asackk09:04
asacthats okaish given how fast our images are built, but yeah09:04
asacwe should09:04
asacif we default now09:04
lool25mn image build time win for a one off 5mn backporting work is a nobrainer for me  :-)09:05
loolasac: exactly09:05
ogra_lool, hmm, doesnt the compressing run on a fast x86 machine ?09:05
* ogra_ is surprised it takes so long 09:05
cjwatsonit does but pxz still helps.  nusakan has plenty of cores09:06
asaclool: ok asking in IS09:06
ogra_cjwatson, well, i think that part runs on the syste-image server09:06
ogra_*system09:06
cjwatson$ grep ^processor /proc/cpuinfo | tail -n109:06
cjwatsonprocessor       : 1109:06
asactelling them it blocks a diligent transition to our final image format, so hope that is good enough for getting someone doing it nowish09:06
* asac hopes that story is roughly rightly phrased :)09:06

asacMirv: great. anything else that is pumping still? otherwise i guess we can go to manual publishing09:08
ogra_ah, no09:08
ogra_and it seems the ppc build is in dep-wait09:08
aquariusev, ping09:09
Mirvasac: galler-app, not sure if its update is wanted. and mediaplayer-app + upstart-app-launch would be upcoming09:09
cjwatsonogra_: which matters not at all since the previous version in saucy wasn't built on powerpc either09:09
ogra_cjwatson, right09:09
evaquarius: pong09:10
Mirvsil2100: can you schedule yourself to run the manual-mode semiautoscript in 30mins?09:11
asacMirv: what commit message do you see for gallery?09:11
* asac checks if the tests are failing there09:11
asacMirv: gallery-app is green, so i guess we dont want it09:12
asacMirv: same argument would work for mediaplayer09:12
asacMirv: not sure what usptart-app-launch is about09:13
asacMirv: maybe that fixes dholbach's problem?09:13
asacdholbach: can you start apps now?09:13
aquariusev, just reading your thread about runaway processes on the touch mailing list (I'm not subscribed to the list, so there's no good way of replying), and I had a thought: it seems to be primarily about *accidental* runaways (I put an infinite loop in my code by mistake), and all the discussion is "how do we know if this process is actually accidental, or if it's deliberately using 100% CPU because it's properly09:13
aquariusbusy doing a lot? The thought is: provide an API call yesIAmReallyBusy which you can call every few seconds while you're busy and then the runaway-killer will know you're not a runaway and will ignore you. This is how screensaver stuff works -- your movie-playing app calls "ignoreTheScreenSaverForAMinute" every minute, and then you don't have to worry about holding locks or anything, and if your app crashes the09:13
aquariusscreensaver doesn't stay disabled.09:13
Mirvasac: content-hub, using url instead of filename09:13
Mirvasac: and then we don't have unity8 building at the moment, now that it still didn't build I reported it onwards09:14
asacMirv: what does it mean that its not building?09:14
asacdoesnt have changes?09:14
Mirvasac: FTBFS09:14
evaquarius: did you see cking's reply? It seems to be going down this route of "can we tell between accidental runaway and purposeful"09:14
Mirvasac: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/122110209:14
ubot5Launchpad bug 1221102 in Unity 8 "FTBFS Sep 5th" [Critical,New]09:14
asacok good09:14
asacwell thats ok09:14
Mirvasac: fix should land soon according to #ubuntu-unity09:14
asacwe dont want a new unity anyway before we do the landing later today09:14
asacafter we turn off automatic publishing09:15
asacthey can start getting everything in place as they want09:15
asacMirv: maybe tell unity folks in channel that they might want to hold back landing stuff in trunk09:15
asacthat isnt related to getting unity8/mir landing ...09:15
evaquarius: getting stuck on poll() being an example near and dear to my heart09:15
asacat least until we have talked to kgunn09:15
aquariusev, I did. The discussion is about being clever around trying to identify from outside the runaway process whether it is runaway or not, which is a useful thing to have if you can do it certainly. What I'm suggesting is making it explicit -- a system service should throw a yesIReallyAmBusy() into its high-CPU processing loop, and then we don't *have* to dwim it; we'll know.09:15
evah right09:16
Mirvasac: well to land unity8/mir I guess we need unity8 building anyhow?09:16
aquariusev, definitely if it can be reliably dwimmed then we don't need explicitness09:16
evany idea if Android already does something like this?09:16
ogra_Mirv, details :P09:16
asacMirv: ack09:16
asacMirv: that they can surealy work on :)09:16
asaclol09:16
aquariusev, I don't know, for background services. I've seen background services throw an error report on Android, but I don't know if that's because they ran away or because they crashed :)09:16
Mirvasac: anyhow, since the manual mode is not yet switched on the gallery-app already landed and unless I abort them so will mediaplayer-app + upstart-app-launch09:16
asacunless its a part of unity that will be disabled soon of course09:16
evaquarius: I realise you're not subscribed, but if you post anyway I'll con someone into letting it through09:17
Mirv(but no others since other stacks aren't running / have run before)09:17
asacMirv: ok... in case we see mediaplayer failures, we should just backout09:17
evor if you'd prefer I can copy and paste all this into the thread :)09:17
asacwithout waiting for them to fix09:17
aquariusev, I would if I knew a way of generating an email from scratch which looks like a reply to an existing email :)09:17
asacMirv: same for the upstrart launch landing ... if something very odd happens we should be preppred to remove it09:17
evah, I'll handle this09:17
cjwatsonaquarius: find Message-ID:, copy into In-Reply-To:09:18
aquariuscjwatson, ha! Doable with a *proper* email client. AFAICT gmail.com can't do that sort of thing.09:18
cjwatsonSadly lists.launchpad.net doesn't show Message-IDs09:18
cjwatsonaquarius: doctor, doctor, it hurts when I do this09:19
aquariuscjwatson, shut up. :)09:19
aquariusI suspected that response was coming :)09:19
cjwatsonMy predictability knows no bounds09:19
evaquarius: what's your email address?09:19
asacMirv: sil2100: any idea how it could land being not buildable?09:19
cjwatson(Also, bored waiting for a test livefs build ...)09:19
asacMirv: sil2100: i assume its an armhf only failure?09:20
asac(and we dont buildtest during MPs)?09:20
aquariusev, I brought it up in case clever people like you and cking might say "we can't do that because $REASONS"; if you think it's worth bringing it up for discussion then I think that's a good idea. Two reasons I can see against it: the first is that if I drop yesIReallyAmBusy() into my main processing loop and that loop has a bug which makes it run infinitely by accident then I'm now immume from being killed, which09:20
aquariusis bad. Secondly, it suggests that if this comes to the desktop that things like Firefox would need to drop a yesIReallyAmBusy() all over the place, which they ought to do (because they want to be a good citizen on Ubuntu) but probably won't (because being a good citizen on Ubuntu isn't a big enough deal to them).09:20
aquariusev, LP address is sil-launchpad@kryogenix.og09:20
Mirvasac: no it's on all archs and no idea how it landed from upstream merger, the unity team seems know what's causing it so they probably have an idea where it came from (like some dependency got updated somewhere in between)09:20
asacok09:21
asacMirv: sil2100: i guess we dont have the ability to put auto-landing of MP into manual mode as well?09:22
Mirvaquarius: I hope your HTML5 HOTP is eternal :)09:22
asac(just asking for future, not for this time)09:22
mardyseb128: if this person also volunteers to maintain the build system, no09:22
Mirvasac: no as we in me/sil2100, but maybe fginther would know09:22
dholbachasac, what changed in the meantime?09:22
mardyseb128: I personally find cmake horrible, but as long as I don't have to touch it, it's fine09:22
seb128mardy, ok, seems they do09:22
aquariusMirv, well, it should be -- I'm not planning on killing the URL at kryogenix.org. However, it is a pure client-side app -- there's no server component -- so if you're worried about me deciding to screw up Canonical non-Android non-iPhone users just because it might be funny then you are welcome to copy the code and host it somewhere else ;)09:23
seb128mardy, apparently qmake cross-compilation support is not really there, where it's better for cmake09:23
asacdholbach: we are seeing a landing of a package called upstart-app-launch :)09:23
dholbachaha09:23
asacdholbach: feels like a parcel that might carry your fix09:23
evaquarius: there, quick and dirty09:23
asachaven't looked what is in there09:23
seb128mardy, but yeah, same for me, the less I need the care about the build system the better ;-)09:23
aquariusev, aha, sneaky! that's quite a clever way around :)09:23
dholbachasac, ok, having a look at it09:23
ogra_  [ Guenter Schwann ]09:23
ogra_  * Make libupstart-app-launch usable by C++ programs.09:23
ogra_asac, ^^^09:23
ogra_dholbach,09:23
ogra_thats the only change09:23
ogra_i doubt it fioxes webapps09:24
ogra_*fixes09:24
dholbachhum, the click apps we use don't have c++ bits09:24
ogra_right09:24
dholbachogra_, and there's just one web app - the rest of the click packages are not09:24
Mirvaquarius: good idea, to make a copy of it just in case09:24
ogra_dholbach, oh, so none of the click apps start ?09:24
Mirvaquarius: not that I'd be worried about that happening :)09:24
aquariusMirv, agreed09:24
ogra_i thought only G+09:24
seb128ogra_, dholbach: that change is just adding an 'extern "C"' to make the compiler happy09:24
dholbachogra_, correct09:24
ogra_ah09:24
ogra_seb128, yeah, i doubt it has anything to do with dholbach's issue09:25
seb128not likely no09:25
aquariusMirv, someone ought to turn it into an app showdown app; are people who need 2fa and using Ubuntu Phone using my thing, or something else, to log in? :)09:25
* ogra_ sees click-apparmor and python3-apparmor in the changes 09:26
ogra_i think thats more likely to help09:26
* ogra_ looks at the changelogs09:26
asacogra_: do you also see dholbach's problem?09:26
dholbachogra_, before and after a dist-upgrade I had the same problem09:26
asacdholbach: which apps are click? calendar starts here for instance09:26
popeyMirv: aquarius it's already an app09:27
ogra_asac, still syncing the image09:27
asacdholbach: you dist-upgraded? maybe install a fresh image :)09:27
ogra_asac, alo i dont run the system image atm09:27
dholbacheven before that09:27
dholbachureadit, ushopper, hello world, google+, akari09:27
asacogra_: he dist-upgraded, so i feel its not the system-image09:27
ogra_ah right09:27
popeyMirv: aquarius https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-touch-coreapps-drivers/+archive/collection/+packages?field.name_filter=canonical&field.status_filter=published&field.series_filter=09:27
aquariuspopey, what, my thing? It's certainly designed to be runnable offline and bookmarkable so that it seems like an app, and that'll work fine on, say, an iPhone, but I don't know if the Ubuntu browser supports offline HTML or bookmarking a thing to the app screen as an app.09:28
dholbachasac, even before the dist-upgrade it didn't work09:28
popeyyes09:28
popeymhall119: app-ified it09:28
asacdholbach: so i am installing those apps09:28
aquariusoh really? cool!09:28
asacbut they dont get installed (e.g. i onbly can install)09:28
aquariusso I already have two Ubuntu Touch apps ;)09:28
dholbachI'm happy to re-flash with 0905 and try again09:29
dholbachasac, any error message?09:29
asacdholbach: no... i just dont see it in "installed" apps09:29
asacand if i click on the suggestions link again09:29
asacit only offers to install09:29
aquariuscjwatson, hm, I wonder if Mailman should have a "send this email, shown in the on-the-web archives, to my email address as if I'd received it originally so that I can reply, and incidentally subscribe me to the list while you're doing that" button, although how you stop it being the world's best spam vector is a problem :)09:29
Mirvpopey: \o/09:30
popey\o/ indeed09:30
cjwatsonaquarius: I like "bts --show mbox BUGNUMBER", which is a tool for the Debian BTS that opens an entire bug thread in your mailer09:30
cjwatsonaquarius: that style of thing works well for me09:30
aquariusMirv, there you go then, someone's already taken a copy of it :)09:30
Mirvit's good that we support non-android non-iphone phones ;)09:30
cjwatsonaquarius: I think it does require some MUA integration to do well though09:31
asacdholbach: give a reflash a try i guess and explain to me where to find my installed click apps :)09:31
asacthanks09:31
aquariuscjwatson, actually, if mailto: URLs could contain a reply-to header as well as body and subject, that'd cover it. But they cannot :)09:31
dholbachasac, yeah, right now I don't see them either (on a N7)09:31
asacdholbach: ok, then i dont know how you know you cant start them :)09:33
dholbachwell, before the last reboot I could see them09:34
asacyeah. feels that it might be related09:34
asaclool: stgraber: you think you and stgraber could see if you can see anything that might cause this network issue?09:38
cjwatsondholbach: anything in "click list"?09:38
cjwatson(as the phablet user)09:38
asaclool: stgraber maybe trying to reconnect wifi a few times and seeing if apparmor is a bit unhappy?09:38
asaccjwatson: i have the apps i installed in click list, yes.09:39
asaccom.ubuntu.developer.mhall119.ureadit0.9.309:39
asaccom.ubuntu.dropping-letters0.1.2.209:39
asaccom.ubuntu.stock-ticker-mobile0.3.7ubuntu109:39
asaccom.ubuntu.sudoku0.4.309:39
asaclet me reboot09:39
asacif its just a unity restart to show them09:39
cjwatsonI was told yesterday that unity doesn't pick up changes to ~/.local/share/applications/ on the fly, so that's possible09:39
asacright09:40
cjwatsonalthough I don't know whether that was a categorical statement or whether it's only sometimes broken or what09:40
asachmm. they are still not in the expanded "installed" list09:40
asacodd09:40
cjwatsonasac: even so I'm not sure that that would be connected to the click scope not being able to launch them09:40
ogra_hmm, i'm running 04.1 here and just noticed that my click scope is completely gone09:41
asaccjwatson: there is a separate click scope?09:41
asaci only have home and application09:41
cjwatsonit's one of the data sources for the application page/lens/whateveritscalled09:41
asacok ogra_ that might explain what i am seeing :)09:41
ogra_in applications you should see installable packages09:41
asacright. i sree suggestions there, i used that to install09:41
asacbut now i cant find those apps09:41
ogra_not if you expand "installed" ?09:42
cjwatsonI'll reflash in a bit, I'm just trying to get this livecd-rootfs change tested first09:42
cjwatsonthough I don't know the click scope all that well09:42
asacogra_: no its not in there09:42
asacogra_: so i believe there is a click scope?09:42
cjwatsonogra_: yeah, having to expand that really is a dreadful UI gotcha09:42
asacthat i dont have?09:42
* ogra_ sees all apps he installed in the installed scope09:42
cjwatsonespecially because the app you just installed continues to show in suggestions ...09:42
ogra_but i dont have the "suggestions" that allow me to install09:42
ogra_which i belive is the click scope09:42
asacso to be clear, the click scope is part or all of what i see on the "Applications" homescreen?09:43
ogra_my applications page only has "installed" and "dash plugins" atm09:43
asacralsina: hey ... see above09:43
asacralsina: me and dholbach cant find the installed clicks09:43
asacogra_: i have installed, more suggestions, dashb plugins :)09:44
asacogra_: maybe settings in $HOME are screwy?09:44
cjwatsonI guess I have to flash cdimage-touch to reproduce this?09:44
ogra_asac, right, i'm missing the suggestions part since this morning09:44
asacthats what i used, yes09:44
asaccjwatson: with --pending09:44
asachmm09:45
ogra_i'm still on 04.1 though09:45
cjwatsonwill take longer then, that's a bigger image and slow internet.  hopefully somebody else will get there first09:45
ogra_(rsync is still 15min )09:45
asaccjwatson: if i just wipe my home, will whatewver click puts in .local/ be recreated?09:45
asaci think i might get tricked by bogus settings09:45
ogra_if it doesnt, file a bug :)09:45
cjwatsonasac: should do, yes09:45
cjwatsonas of yesterday evening we run "click hook install-user" on session init09:46
ogra_and that works really well :)09:46
ogra_my last upgrade kept all my click packages installed09:46
cjwatsonthough unity doesn't wait for that before starting, so there is a bit of a race until such time as it starts monitoring ~/.local/share/applications/ properly09:46
asacwonder what .presage is09:46
cjwatsonogra_: it was really for proper handling of preinstalled apps though, which you won't be seeing yet09:47
cjwatsonuntil I get this livecd-rootfs change landed09:47
asaccjwatson: kk. so maybe two reboots with some time in between09:47
ogra_ah09:47
cjwatsonI wouldn't worry about some time, click hook install-user shouldn't take more than a second or so09:47
cjwatson(which is mostly slow python startup, will go away when I rewrite in C, but not for 13.10 ...)09:48
asacyeah i see the .deskltop files are now there... rebooting09:48
asacnot sure... still nothing09:49
asacmoved .config .local and .presage away09:49
asacdidnt help09:49
asacnot sure if it redumbed a bogus config state right away09:49
cjwatsonI don't know the scope/upstart side of things well enough to be able to debug this remotely I'm afraid09:49
asacyeah no problem09:49
cjwatsonmight be able to grovel about locally and find it09:49
asaclets wait09:49
* ogra_ reboots his phone to see if the scope comes back09:51
ogra_aha, reboot got it back09:51
ogra_and there is G+ now !09:52
rahI'm trying to port ubuntu touch to a system that doesn't have a cyanogenmod port09:52
asacpsivaa: http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/smokeng/saucy/image/3991/ first time?09:53
asacwe see gallery-app failure like this?09:53
rahI'm trying to follow the web page here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting09:53
rahunfortunately, some of what it says isn't true09:53
dholbachasac, ogra: I reflashed --wipe with 0905 and get no click app suggestions, but when I searched for "ureadit" I could start the attempt at installing it, but get "Error using keyfile com.ubuntu.developer.mhall119.ureadit_ureadit_0.9.3.desktop: No such file or directory"09:53
dholbach... when trying to launch it09:53
ogra_dholbach, just installed G+, after a reboot i see the icon in "Installed" and tapping it starts the app fine09:53
rahspecifically, it says "The path to fstab is:09:53
rahdevice/[manufacturer]/[codename]/fstab.[codename]"09:53
asacoha... so thats a regression in 5 over 4.3 thne09:54
asaclet me see09:54
asaci had 4.309:54
dholbachasac, no I had the same issue on 4.309:54
rahhowever, the android tree that I have for the device has no such "fstab.[codename]" file09:54
cjwatsondholbach: ls -l ~/.local/share/applications/  and see whether that's a dead link09:54
asacdholbach: thats odd then.09:54
cjwatson(com.ubuntu.developer.mhall119.ureadit_ureadit_0.9.3.desktop I mean)09:54
psivaaasac: yes, first time. restarting to confirm it's recurrent09:54
asacpsivaa: thx09:54
rahwhat is the best approach for porting to a device that has no cyanogenmod port?09:55

ogra_rah, does it have any fstab file ?09:55
dholbachcjwatson, ^09:55
asacoSoMoN: gallery-app might be effected by libcontenthub?09:55
popeydholbach: i got that yesterday when installing a click package09:55
cjwatsondholbach: could perhaps be bug 121485509:55
ubot5bug 1214855 in Upstart Application Launcher "Package creating files in ~/.local/share/applications which may not exist" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/121485509:55
popeybut it actually did put a file there, despite the warning09:56
cjwatsonor indeed bug 121547809:56
ubot5bug 1215478 in upstart-app-launch (Ubuntu) "upstart-app-launch-desktop hook fails when ~/.local/share/applications doesn't exist" [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/121547809:56
oSoMoNasac: indeed09:56
cjwatsonpopey: yesterday things were different09:56
dholbachcjwatson, thanks a lot for the link09:56
cjwatsonpopey: click desktophook was duplicating the work of upstart-app-launch-desktop - I made it stop doing so09:56
popeyah09:56
asacoSoMoN: can you try to reproduce and see if backing out libcontenthub (which gots updated) fixes the test?09:56
cjwatsonwhich means that we're probably now seeing the bugs of upstart-app-launch-desktop more obviously09:56
rahogra_: there are two files, "vold.fstab" and "recovery.fstab"09:56
rahogra_: neither look like fstab files09:56
rah## Format: dev_mount <label> <mount_point> <part> <sysfs_path1...>09:56

ogra_yeah, we dont use vold09:56
asachttp://people.canonical.com/~ogra/touch-image-stats/20130905.changes09:56
popeydholbach: not tried since, been on other things09:57
rahI don't know what vold is09:57
popeyneed to relfash my device09:57
dholbachok09:57
ogra_volume daemon ... an adroid service that manages disk volumes09:57
cjwatsondholbach: so should be better if you mkdir -p ~/.local/share/applications first09:57
popeywhich I'm doing now and will test dholbach09:57
ogra_+n09:57
rahI see09:57
dholbachcjwatson, popey: thanks09:57
cjwatsondholbach: (I just marked that above bug as a duplicate and have set the appstore tag on the dup target instead)09:57
rahso what is the best approach for porting to a device that has no cyanogenmod port?09:58
asacoSoMoN: i think i remember that there was also a gallery-app update in flight... maybe that addresses this issue (if it is an issue)09:59
dholbachcjwatson, fantastic - thanks!09:59
rahthe porting guide, as it stands, assumes an existing cyangenmod port10:00
asacgusch: do you know if the gallery-app is suppoed to fix the test failure?10:00
asachttps://code.launchpad.net/~phablet-team/gallery-app/trunk10:00
asac -> Return urls not filenames to content hub.10:00
asacguess that might have the fix10:00
asacoSoMoN: ^^10:00
guschasac: which failure?10:01
ogra_ah, and a fix for bug 1215478 just landed this minute10:01
ubot5bug 1215478 in upstart-app-launch (Ubuntu) "upstart-app-launch-desktop hook fails when ~/.local/share/applications doesn't exist" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/121547810:02
rahwhere should I ask questions about porting ubuntu touch?10:02
ogra_rah, here is fine, but i dont think many of us have experience with porting non CWM based devices10:02
oSoMoNasac: I’ll let gusch deal with the tests failures for gallery-app, it’s his field10:03
dholbachasac, ogra_, so it is indeed bug 1215478 (creating ~/.local/share/applications makes it work)10:03
ubot5bug 1215478 in upstart-app-launch (Ubuntu) "upstart-app-launch-desktop hook fails when ~/.local/share/applications doesn't exist" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/121547810:03
ogra_dholbach, right, upstart-app-launch 0.1+13.10.20130905-0ubuntu1 seems to fix that10:03
asacgusch: check dashboard10:04

rahogra_: so you're saying there's not really any help for people wanting to port ubuntu touch to devices which have no cyanogenmod port?10:05
ogra_rah, well, we can surely answer questions to a certain extend ...10:05
rahok10:06
rahwhat is fstab.[codename]?10:06
asacMirv: sil2100: so seems we want upstart-app-launch fix in10:06
rahis it required?10:06
ogra_well, whats the name of your device ?10:06
asacMirv: sil2100: on gallery-app we wait for gusch feedback10:06
ogra_usually android uses that to mount the disk partitions10:06
asacand a retry10:06
iKillCypherHello :)10:06
rahI'd rather not reveal the name of the device10:07
rahI don't understand why it would be necessary either10:07
ogra_heh, ok10:07
guschasac: you mean http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/smokeng/saucy/image/3991/gallery-app-autopilot/346984/ ?10:07
cjwatsonasac: upstart-app-launch was already uploaded to the archive, so is presumably already past what Mirv/sil2100 need to look at10:07
asaccjwatson: k10:07
asacgusch: right10:08
asacgusch: a) is that caused by libcontenthub update10:08
asacor b) an issue that might go away on retrying10:08
asacor c) is it fixed in latest gallery-app commit10:08
ogra_rah, well, the fstab file you would use in CWM for i.e. a grouper (nexus7) device would be called fstab.grouper and would tell android specifically how the partition layout on the device is and where which partition needs to be mounted10:08
asac:)10:08
ogra_rah, i would assume your adnroid device must have such a file too somewhere10:08
=== vrruiz_ is now known as rvr

guschasac: I have never seen that error before10:10
asacgusch: thats under way. however, we dont have much time, can you try reproduce please?10:10
asaci would rather like to know if libcontenthub caused regression sooner10:10
asacso we can throw that out10:10
asacgusch: if you are 100% sure from looking at libcontenthub changes that its not causing this, then we can wait :)10:11
asacgusch: here is the libcontenthub update: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/content-hub10:11

ogra_rah, right, since it needs to be able to execute suid apps there10:16

ogra_rah, no, so just fix the /data mounting then10:17
cjwatson(because if you do that it won't run hooks as the right user)10:17
cjwatsonpopey: the reason I say this BTW is that most people forget to do the user registration bit properly when they're using click install; also I get a fair number of support requests from people who don't know about --force-missing-framework10:19

ogra_asac, there is a new touch image building now, feel free to ignore it, i need to test the cdimage changes (to use the android package)12:32

cjwatson(and dumps everything to your terminal)12:33
ogra_yep, i could also have omitted --live12:33

ogra_since i only want to test the cdimage side12:33
asaccan you go back right after?12:33
ogra_well, but now its running, so i'lll let it12:34
asacogra_:  i am not sure i want it to even go out12:34

asacso we have to kill everything manually there so we can test what we want12:34
ogra_asac, why ? if it builds all is fine, there isnt any difference in the resulting images12:34
mhall119popey: what version of libqt5webkit5-qmlwebkitplugin do you have on your phone12:34
cjwatsonyou could ctrl-c although it may leave some cruft around and it won't kill the livefs build12:35

cjwatsoncwayne_: No, you don't and shouldn't13:31

cjwatsoncwayne_: (At user session init time)13:34
rahogra_: there are no "mako" or "maguro" directories under device/13:34
cwayne_cjwatson, it seems that installing click packages doesn't create that dir if it doesn't exist13:34

ogra_just copy the tree locally and then follow the porting guide, it has build instructions13:37
cjwatsoncwayne_: Removal isn't implemented in general yet, and we need to come up with a distinction between removable and non-removable preinstalled apps (though in general a determined user will always be able to remove an app from their view so it's a matter of what's presented in the UI)13:37

rahthe first bit of significant information in this guide to the Android Build System is not right13:53
ogra_might be goutdated indeed13:54
rahit sats "The definition file is called: buildspec.mk, and it is located in the top-level source directory"13:54
Mirvricmm: 50mins ago here :) so generally 2am - 1pm UTC13:54
ogra_its a wiki :)13:54
rahubuntu-touch$ ls -l buildspec.mk13:54

Mirv4am-1pm, that is13:55
stgraberogra_: so one thing I noticed we're still missing on touch_ro is a SWAP device, which I understand may be pretty important for maguro at this point. My plan is to have the initrd create it and set it up (/userdata/system-data/SWAP.img). How big should it be? And I guess we want to tweak the swapiness to avoid writing to it as much as possible? (swapping out to flash is usually a pretty bad idea)13:55
ogra_stgraber, iirc we use a 512M file on non readonly images atm13:56
ogra_stgraber, creating it on first boot will take ages though13:56
stgraberogra_: shouldn't, it's a sparse file, the dd should take < 1s and mkswap is pretty quick too13:56
ogra_no13:57
ogra_swap cant use files with holes13:57
ogra_it cant be a sparse file13:57
stgraberah, then yeah, it'll take ages13:57
ogra_you actually need to dd zeros13:57
rsalvetiyeah13:57
rsalveti512m should be more than enough13:57
ogra_thats why we ship it in the zip13:57
mdeslaurtmoenicke: any idea when longpresses will work in the touch keyboard so I can enter accented characters?13:58
ogra_stgraber, cant you re-use that file somehow ?13:58
stgraberogra_: nope, it's on read-only storage, so I'd have to copy it which would be just as slow as creating a new one13:59
tmoenickemdeslaur: very soon, ironing a merge request related to that13:59
mdeslaurtmoenicke: oh cool, thanks!13:59
ogra_i could imagine copying being faster13:59
stgraberogra_: I don't see how reading and writing to the same device would be faster than dumping 512MB of stuff from /dev/zero13:59
ogra_stgraber, creating it on the panda took about 15min14:00
stgraberit shouldn't actually be 50% slower14:00
ogra_we did that in the beginnong of preinstalled images14:00
stgraberlet me do a quick test on mako, see how long the dd would take14:00
ogra_well, better do it on maguro, since thats a lot slower and our default device14:00
stgraberogra_: I'd if I had one14:01
* ogra_ runs a dd on his maguro14:01
rsalvetimight take even longer with nexus 714:01
stgraberogra_: can you try "dd if=/dev/zero of=test.img bs=4096 count=131072 conv=fdatasync" on userdata14:01
ogra_oh, yeah14:02
ogra_stgraber, time dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/testfile bs=1M count=512 is currently running since a minute or two already14:02
ogra_i'll try your command after14:02
ogra_ah, i exaggerated14:02

rickspencer3does anyone know where the qml puts the sqlite database files when you use local storage on the desktop?14:04
nylogra_,  http://init2winitapps.com/stories/bootmanager.html :D14:04
ogra_stgraber, your command was 51sec14:04
stgraberogra_: that seems vaguely reasonable then14:04
nylwill it work with ubuntu touch since it uses android kernel14:05
stgraberogra_: surprisingly enough, grouper is very fast at this, 23s14:05
ogra_wow14:05
stgraberyeah, I'm very surprised because I/O tends to really suck on it, though apparently long continuous writes of zero is fast on that flash14:06
ogra_well, thats still a minute more  on a device that already takes over 3min to boot (in maguros case)14:06
ogra_(and nearly half of that with a black screen)14:06
stgraberso in theory we've got two options, create it at first boot or create it as part of the flashing in recovery14:07
stgraberthe former is easier to implement since it's just one change to the initrd, the latter will need a change to the upgrader on top of that (so change to android, new android release, export, new source package, ...)14:07
stgraberthe advantage of doing it in recovery is that the screen won't be black14:08
ogra_the advantage of doing it in recovery is that there users expect it to take a bit of time14:09
ogra_while a boot is a boot, and we already have people asking if it crashed ... (and it usually comes up after they logged in to IRC to ask us)14:10
stgraberok, I'll do it as part of the "format data" target in recovery then and have the initrd just check if it's there and use it14:11
stgraberthat'll take a while to land (I doubt we'll have that before tomorrow)14:11
ogra_yeah, sounds good14:11

cwayne_cjwatson, so i installed a click app to /custom/click, and it shows up in click list but theres 2 problems: A) none of the other click apps that are normally preinstalled are there, and B) the click app i installed does not show up int he apps lens14:39
cjwatsoncwayne_: I only landed the changes to the other preinstallations this morning; they'll show up in /usr/share/click/preinstalled/ not in /custom/click/14:39
cjwatsonso that's expected14:39
cjwatsonas for the app lens, not sure, did you restart unity after the preinstallation?14:39
cjwatsonand does the app show up in "click list"?14:40
cwayne_cjwatson, right, but theyre not showing up in /usr/share/click/preinstalled either..14:40
cwayne_the app shows in click list yes14:40

cwayne_ah, understood, yeah ill get you a url, 1 sec14:41
cwayne_cjwatson, im using this click package: http://people.canonical.com/~cwayne/com.ubuntu.developer.alecu.qr-code-0.2.click14:42
cwayne_installing like this: click install  --force-missing-framework --root /custom/click --all-users /custom/usr/share/clickapps/com.ubuntu.developer.alecu.qr-code-0.2.click14:42
cwayne_cjwatson, ^ that is running as root though, not sure if that could be causing problems as well14:43
cjwatsonno that's fine14:43
cwayne_i figured the --all-users would cover that14:43
cjwatson(though if I were you I wouldn't download the app to /custom/usr/share/clickapps/ - just a waste of space as you aren't going to want to leave the .click there on deployment)14:43
cjwatsonyou have to run it as root, it isn't going to work otherwise :)14:44
cwayne_cjwatson, well i dont download it, its included in the customized tarball, and i can always remove that dir after installation :)14:45
cjwatsoncwayne_: it shows up for me and launches fine14:45
alecucjwatson: I thought "click install" was deprecated... I've been telling people to use "pkcon install-local" instead14:46
cjwatsoncwayne_: is it in ~/.local/share/applications/, and (if you installed it in a running system) did you restart unity afterwards?14:46
balloonsplars, btw, what's up with the crazy build numbers?14:46
plarsballoons: ask stgraber :)14:47
cjwatsonalecu: it's not deprecated in general, it just isn't the right thing to use for ordinary user-level installation of click packages14:47
cjwatsonalecu: but this isn't ordinary user-level installation, it's a special case14:47
alecuah, ok.14:47
cjwatsonalecu: it's fine for this14:47
cwayne_cjwatson, it's not in .local/share/applications, hmm14:47
cjwatsoncwayne_: did you create that directory?14:47
plarsballoons: I'm hopeful that this can get fixed at some point, but for the time being, build numbers for touch_ro are a integer that just got reset to "1" and has been incrementing from there14:47
cwayne_cjwatson, yes, i wonder if it has the wrong permissions, any idea what it should be?14:47
plarsballoons: the problem is, "1" may get reused for new builds in -proposed14:48
cwayne_and it should be owned by phablet, right?14:48
cjwatsoncwayne_: try restarting your session before looking into this14:48
cjwatsonphablet:phablet mode 075514:48
cwayne_cjwatson, well the thing is i'm trying to do all of this before the user's first session14:48
balloonsplars, ahh, so we can blame touch_ro :-)14:48
plarsballoons: so we have to know what that build number equates to. So the other two numbers you see there are the rootfs version and android build version14:48
cjwatsonbut I think a permissions problem on that directory is unlikely14:48
cwayne_i can click install an app manually just fine14:48
cjwatsoncwayne_: you're also trying to work around bugs that are in the process of being fixed, please don't :P14:48
cjwatsoncwayne_: there was a bug fixed this morning that didn't properly autocreate that directory14:48
cjwatsoncwayne_: you probably ran into that14:49
cwayne_cjwatson, i did when i tried it manually, but our tarball already creates that dir :)14:49
cjwatsoncwayne_: you should not be creating .local/share/applications before the user's first session, and once today's bug fixes land you shouldn't need to14:49
cjwatsonyour tarball is wrong :)14:49
asacplars: ok14:49
asacplars: touch_ro's can fill up later after we pushed to current14:50
cwayne_cjwatson, then fix the browser to support changing the homepage without a hacked .desktop file :P14:50
cjwatsonas of earlier today the upstart-app-launch click hook should deal with creating that directory and populating it with all the preinstalled apps14:50
cjwatsoncwayne_: oh, bah, I assumed this was just for click14:50
cjwatsoncwayne_: well, yes, make sure it's phablet:phablet 0755 then14:50
cjwatsoncwayne_: we try to sync everything up on every session start, so if the permissions are wrong, correct them and restart unity (e.g. reboot)14:51
cjwatsonthen it should appear14:51
cwayne_cjwatson, hm, the permissions are already correct14:52
cjwatsontry "click hook install-user" and see if it says anything14:52
cwayne_cjwatson, hm, so after a reboot it shows up correctly14:53
cwayne_i was trying to avoid having to do a reboot though14:53
cjwatsoncwayne_: you won't have to, this is probably just a bug in flight14:57
cwayne_cjwatson, that's what i'm hoping :)14:57
cjwatsonthere are absolutely known bugs involving .local/share/applications not being properly rescanned on the fly14:57
cwayne_cjwatson, so is the fact that the other click packages aren't installing another bug in flight?14:57
cwayne_the ones in /usr/share/click/preinstalled i mean14:58
cjwatsoncwayne_: does your image contain /usr/share/click/preinstalled at all?14:58
cjwatsonbecause the latest image I flashed earlier didn't yet14:58
cwayne_cjwatson, yes it does, but its empty14:58
cjwatsoncwayne_: which image is this?14:59

cwayne_stgraber, hiya, we got another custom.tar.xz that needs some signing love if you've got a second :)15:00

cwayne_stgraber, https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/sevilerow-watch/14/artifact/custom.tar.xz15:01
balloonsplars, it did land, but I see the test run is the same as before, so I know the new code wasn't used. I would have to track down the package build time vs the test time to confirm, but it's easy to see it's old code15:01

plarsballoons: well, autolanding is shut off at the moment15:28
ogra_xnox, we dont have any android QA tests15:28
plarsballoons: so you'd need to talk to sil2100? I think?15:28
balloonsplars, you mean to land it today; else wait till tomorrow's build15:29
plarsballoons: well, it may be too late for this one anyway, asac? are you still considering 5.1 likely for current, or would you be interested in a filemanager app fix?15:29
plarsballoons: you've tried it and confirmed it fixes things?15:30
xnoxrsalveti: ogra_: sure we do. It builds, lands on pending image, then the whole autopilot stack is run before that image is promoted to current. If android package is screwed up there are little chances that image will pass all the autopilot tests and get released into the current channel.15:30
ogra_xnox, biot we dont test any android parts specifically15:30
balloonsplars, heh, working on the device, in the vm and the lab doesn't mean it works in the lab.. I'm CURIOUS to know if it does15:30
asacplars: no we dont wait for something that never worked15:30
asacplars: i was kind of ignoring the core apps until balloons cmes along15:31
asacif he believes he has the fix we can land it after .1 is out15:31
plarssounds good15:31
asacballoons: does your stuff go through dail-release?15:31
rsalvetixnox: ogra_: yeah, we test the entire image, not the package itself15:31
asacballoons: all that is currently not automatically publishing so you can alreawdy commit15:31
balloonsI wouldn't land anything based on belief.. many failures in the lab work everywhere else15:31
asacand we will pick it up once we are happey15:31
asacballoons: everybody has gone through that15:32
xnoxogra_: yeah we dont' have android package unit tests, but we do have extensive integration tests which should cover all functionality we do rely on from the android package. Which is as best as it can get for android src package.15:32
balloonsasac, yes things go through daily release15:32
asacballoons: usually folks do something to their device before runnig tests15:32
asacballoons: the phones in the lab are super stupid. they just boot15:32
asacand start the tests15:32
asacdont touch it basically :)15:32
balloonsasac, yes fair enough15:32
asacballoons: so then its safe15:32
ogra_xnox, we dont run these tests prior to upload today ... i dont see a reason to block on this15:32
asacballoons: ultimtely everybody said so far its not reproduible, but in the end it was reproducible and _fixable_ :)15:32
xnoxogra_: =)15:32
xnoxogra_: ok, in the mean time, let me prepare an upload for stgraber.15:33
ogra_would be good to have tests in the future indeed15:33
balloonsasac, I wouldn't make that claim.. if it happens in the lab, I should be able to make it happen locally.. the trouble is iterating on a once a day run15:33
cwayne_awe, ping15:33
awecwayne_, let me ping you in a few...15:33
cwayne_awe, sure thing15:34
rahogra_: is there any documentation for the cm build system?15:39
ogra_rah, i honestly dont know :)15:41
ogra_but i would guess so15:41
doanacsergiusens: looks like click apps aren't in today's image. you know where I can download dropping-letters from?15:42
ogra_doanac, fixed in the next image, cjwatson just uploaded a fix15:47
doanacah - thanks15:47
ogra_doanac, http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/click_packages/15:47
popeyogra_: next one that has built or will build?15:48
ogra_popey, well, i'm waiting for an OK from asac so i can fire off a build to test the cdimage fixes too15:48
ogra_popey, will ...15:49
popeyah ok15:49
asacogra_: how does the dashboard look?15:51
asacogra_: anything that regressed compared to our best build?15:51
ogra_asac, very good i'd say ... mako leads with 16 ... directly followed by maguro with 15 (failures)15:51
ogra_asac, loks good to me15:54
asacogra_: let me look and enjoy for a moment15:55
stgraberxnox: how's that Android upload going? :)15:55
asacogra_: nice15:55
asacpush15:55
asaclool: so is yoru security fix in sight?15:55
asacotherwise we could try ogra_ android migration15:55
asacwhile we wait for unity landing15:55
ogra_asac, did we have manual tests yet ?15:55
asacricmm: you think we have 3 hours before you are ready for todays merges?15:56
asacogra_: thought you know15:56
asacabout manual15:56
asacpopey: ?15:56
popey?15:56
asacpopey: mako 5.1 build perfect?15:56
ogra_asac, nope, i was in a meeting and only started the download afterwards ... still rsyncing15:56
popeyasac: you want an image manually tested? Tell me which one?15:56
ogra_popey, rw 05.115:56
asacpopey: latest 05.115:57
popeyon 5 now. will flash 5.1 now15:57
ogra_aka /pending15:57
ricmmasac: I think 3 hours is plausible15:57
ricmmgreyback: what do you think?15:57
greybackricmm: 3-4 hours hopefully.15:58
ricmmasac: why, would you like to land something now?15:59
ricmmit will definitely be up today, but at the time the testing is done it might require ken instead of sil/mirv15:59
ogra_ricmm, i changed cdimage and would like to do a test build and there are some people waiting for a new android package that xnox just prepares atm16:02
ogra_for fixing some tests on the readonly image16:02
loolasac: Sorry, I can't reproduce the issue16:02
loolstgraber: you couldn't either?16:03
ogra_davmor2, did you test 05.1 yet ?16:03
asaclool: check with doanac how exactly its run etc.16:03
loolasac: and I chased other rabbits this pm; I don't have the same hardware16:03
asaclool: who knows if they have added a hack to keep this going16:03
loolasac: I only have grouper right now16:03
asacoh16:03
asacdont bother16:03
loolasac: we never got a run on mako I think16:03
davmor2ogra_: no did someone let me know there was one :D  I'll grab it now :)16:03
asaclool: were you able to reproduce before and now not anymore?16:03
loolasac: and mako passed for stgraber locally and grouper for me locally16:04
ogra_davmor2, ta16:04
jdstrandasac: hey-- can you make sure click-apparmor 0.1.9 and apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu 1.0.29 are pulled in?16:04
loolasac: well I could verify that the modules appeared here16:04
asacjdstrand: whats in there?16:04
asac:)16:04
loolasac: also, security test is one of the last ones, so haven't gotten many of them in today's runs16:04
asacjdstrand: is that contributing to our system fixes?16:04
asacsyustem iamge tests failing?16:04
jdstrandasac: well, where do I see what is already in there besides reflashing, which will take a while16:05
cwayne_stgraber, ping16:05
stgrabercwayne_: pong16:05
loolasac: the only run from today was maguro on 05, not 05.116:05
ogra_jdstrand, the manifest files on cdimage16:05
looland it failed for unknown reasons16:05
loolplars: did you reproduce the maguro failure?16:05
jdstrandasac: click-apparmor is needed for autopilot work for the read-only images16:05
plarslool: which, the security?16:05
ogra_jdstrand, the last image didnt have it http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/20130905.1/saucy-preinstalled-touch-armhf.manifest16:05
asacjdstrand: those are part of the platform stack?16:06
ogra_jdstrand, i guess the next build will though16:06
jdstrandwould that be in http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/?16:06
asacjdstrand: do they use dailyu-release?16:06
jdstrandok16:06
asacogra_: ok plz test maguro and lets get it out16:06
asacogra_: after popey confirms16:06
asacthen we do another image with just your android changes or just jdstrand changes16:06
asacwhile we wait for unity and/or lool16:06
cwayne_stgraber, hey, i hear you may be the man to talk to about the initrd copying stuff from /custom to ~16:06
ogra_asac, davmor2 is faster than me i think, he already pulls16:06
ogra_(for maguro that is)16:07
asacok also fine16:07
jdstrandweird that the manifest isn't listed in http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/20130905.1/16:07
stgrabercwayne_: probably16:07
ogra_jdstrand, it is16:07
ogra_jdstrand, i clicked on it to open it actually :)16:07
* jdstrand squints to see16:07
cwayne_stgraber, well, i think we have a bug there.  once it's copied over stuff, all of it is owned by 'system' when i think it should be owned by 'phablet'16:08
jdstrandah, it is16:08
jdstrandI am blind16:08
cwayne_and this breaks installing click apps unless we explicitly chown phablet:phablet ~/.local/share/applications/16:08
asacjdstrand: is this maybe fixing the problem that i dont even see the installed clicke apps?16:08
asacon my application screen?16:08
ogra_jdstrand, there is also http://people.canonical.com/~ogra/touch-image-stats/ that only lists changes between two images16:08
jdstrandasac: so, you have 0.1.8 which is enough for autopilot16:08
loolplars: yeah16:08
ogra_(we'll soon ship such a log alongside on cdimage once the code for it lands)16:08
loolplars: the security one16:08
loolplars: cause the only device that ran a test was maguro16:09
plarslool: running iptables -L worked for me on maguro ro image if that's what you mean... it hasn't made it to that test just yet in automation16:09
plarsI am looking at the 5.1 image on mako locally right now and just got a nice reboot in the middle of a call16:10
loolplars: I did ufw enable locally and that worked16:10
loolplars: reboot > bleh16:10
jdstrandasac: the fix in 0.1.9 was pre-emptive-- dpm mentioned that he couldn't find aa-exec-click in his PATH, but there isn't a bug report yet. click was updated to use aa-exec-click recently. upstart-app-launch shouldn't be using aa-exec-click yet. it shouldn't be an issue16:10
loolplars: but doubt it's related to new images either  ;-)16:10
stgrabercwayne_: nope, the problem is your tarball16:10
plarsogra_: have you ever seen that? reboot in the middle of a phone call?16:10
loolplars: oh with the phone16:11
* ogra_ pretends he doesnt see plars until he has something nicer to talk about 16:11
stgrabercwayne_: mfisch's initrd code does a cp -aR16:11
plars:)16:11
loolplars: what were you saying?  #bomb #nsa #prism?16:11
davmor2ogra_: flashing is nearly complete16:11
ogra_plars, no, i havent16:11
jdstrandasac: so, your call. it is a teeny fix. apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu is largely cosmetic-- you have 1.0.28 which is good enough16:11
stgrabercwayne_: and the files in your tarball belong to jenkins:jenkins which doesn't exist on the phone16:11
ogra_plars, try booting into recovery and capture /proc/last_kmsg before you do anything else16:11
popeyogra_: camera app locks up in video mode.. known problem?16:11
ricmmogra_: well as gerry said we wont be ready for another 3-4 hours16:12
ricmmI say go for it, again, this isnt all that intrusive at all16:12
stgrabercwayne_: so we should either stop using -a and do a chown after the copy or you'd have to change your tarball to have phablet:phablet (1000:1000) own all the files16:12
plarsogra_: it already fully rebooted, so too late?16:12
ogra_popey, i think we'rre waiting for gstreamer bits for that16:12
popeyk16:12
ogra_plars, yeah16:12
popey5.1 seems good to me16:12
cwayne_stgraber, would that work even if there's no phablet user on jenkins?16:12
plarsogra_: let me see if I can reproduce16:12
ogra_plars, yeah16:12
davmor2lool: yeah the nsa turned on the gps to track plars movement and it was that, that rebooted the phone....blame the nsa :)16:13
plarscrazy16:13
stgrabercwayne_: depends how you generate the tarball, if you assemble it by hand, you can do whatever you want16:13
plarsI'm connected now (on phone) but there is no audio16:13
stgrabercwayne_: anyway, I think the right fix is to chown in the initrd as we probably want /custom to be owned by root and noone else16:13
AskUbuntuCompatible android devices with Ubuntu | http://askubuntu.com/q/34177816:13
ogra_lovely16:13
stgrabercwayne_: so you should be changing your tarball generate code to have root:root own everything under /custom16:14
stgrabercwayne_: and I'll change the initrd to chown to phablet16:14
* lool brb16:16
davmor2ogra_: damn you and your 5.1 to hell ;)  3g isn't working again so I guess the race is still in place16:16
ogra_davmor2, does restarting NM fix it ?16:17
ogra_cyphermox, ^^^ i thought that was fixed16:17
=== dandrader is now known as dandrader|lunch
cyphermoxogra_: it's supposed to be16:17
davmor2cyphermox: when I tried 20130905 this morning it worked fine, on 20130905.1 I see the 3g I leave it a couple of minutes I open the browser no connection, reboot n-m and now I do,  I'm supposing a race of some sort16:19
cwayne_ssweeny, so we need to have root own everything in our tarball16:19
xnoxrsalveti: can we have pxz on hesperidium installed or does that need an RT?16:19
davmor2ogra_: yeap working fine after reboot16:19
popeyogra_: 5.1 feels really good16:19
ogra_ok16:19
cyphermoxdavmor2: file a bug, attach /var/log/syslog please16:20
ogra_davmor2, apart from the NM issue (which isnt a regression) do you agree with popey ?16:20
rsalvetixnox: would need someone with super cow powers to install it16:20
davmor2ogra_: give me a minute I was busy with the n-m issue :)16:20
ogra_heh, yeah, dont feel pushed ...16:21
rsalvetidavmor2: if you can, mind adding debug output for both ofono and nm?16:21
rsalvetiand then trying to reproduce the 3g issue16:21
rsalvetiin theory latest nm should behave way better than before16:21
rsalvetiat least it now works fine for both maguro and mako when testing locally16:22
popeyogra_: hmm hang on16:22
popeyunity just died on me16:22
ogra_oh man16:22
popeyphablet    727 23.3  0.0      0     0 ?        Zs   16:05   4:00 [unity8] <defunct>16:22
davmor2rsalveti: I blame ogra_  and his 5.1 request 5 was perfect ;)  I'll get as much info as I can and try and reproduce it16:22
ogra_not restarting ?16:22
popeynope16:23
popeywhat logs do I grab?>16:23
cwayne_stgraber, ack, thanks16:23
ogra_/home/phablet/.cache/upstart/unity8.log in any case16:23
plarscan't seem to reproduce it16:24
popeybah, why don't we ship pastebinit by default16:24
plarsmaybe lool is right, but if they have our gps working so well, I think they should start sending us patches :)16:24
popeyogra_: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6067099/16:24
ogra_popey, heh, well, file a bug with that, i cant read anything out of it16:25
ogra_that needs a unity8 person16:25
popeyya16:26
ogra_is the container still running ?16:26
popeyhow can I tell?16:26
ogra_lxc-info -n android16:26
popeylxc-info: failed to open log file "/var/log/lxc/android.log" : Permission denied16:26

rsalvetixnox: stgraber: changed the cron script to run it at every hour, creating a tarball with the timestamp as `date -u +%Y%m%d-%H%M`16:47

ssweenylool, no i must hav emissed it17:14
loolssweeny: 16:34 < lool> ssweeny: Could you get me commit access to ubuntu-touch-customization-hooks?17:15
loolasac, plars, stgraber: I don't explain it but http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/smokeng/saucy/image/4005/security/ passed17:16
loolso check-ufw is good again on maguro17:16
loollet's see mako17:16
ogra_that failed iirc17:16
plarslool: this is what I saw earlier also on my maguro17:16
loologra_: I think it didn't run17:16
ogra_oh, it was re-started then, i saw it failed before17:17
loologra_: do you have a link to a failed run?17:17
ssweenylool, i'm afraid mfisch is the only one who can commit to it and he's on holiday17:17
ogra_lool, no17:17
plarsthe previous run where it failed was on 2013090517:17
ssweenylool, i guess we have to commit to the ubuntu branch17:17
plarshttps://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/saucy-touch_ro-maguro-smoke-security/44/17:17
loologra_: the last failure on mako is from 04.3 which didn't have the fix17:17
plarsthis was on 20130905.1 and it passed17:17
ogra_lool, oh, i got confused by the disordered frontpage of the dashboard17:18
plarswas 5.1 not expected to pass for some reason?17:18
=== dandrader|lunch is now known as dandrader

ogra_plars, well, no, the opposite :)17:18
loolssweeny: ok, will submit as a mp and just upload17:18
seb128charles, mpt: hey, I was wondering if you know what's the recommended approch for keypad-like-uis, should that be a shared widget, a toolkit component, just the osk?17:18
ssweenylool, ok, thanks17:18
seb128charles, mpt: e.g https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bluetooth?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=phone-bluetooth-pair.png or https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityAndPrivacySettings?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=phone-security-privacy-lock-security-switch-swipe.png17:18
seb128Laney, ^ fyi (I know we discussed that before, I'm not sure we ever got a reply)17:19
LaneyI think that you're supposed to use input method hints to tell the osk what form to take17:19
mterryLaney, I'm adding support for the "StatsWelcomeScreen" setting, and the system settings don't seem to be changing the value in AccountsService17:19
ogra_davmor2, btw, how is the image looking17:20
charlesseb128, looks like the osk would be a good match, can we tell it to reject nonnumeric entry?17:20
seb128charles, Laney: some people suggested to use the "osk in numeric mode" before I think17:20
Laneymterry: does it work when you set it in the session manually?17:20
seb128tmoenicke, bfiller: ^ do you know?17:20
Laneydid for me when I developed it17:21
davmor2ogra_: a few glitches but nothing more than usual I have made unity crash yet but I did cause and out of memory restart by the look of it :)17:21
davmor2s/have made unity/haven't made unity17:21
ogra_ok17:21
bfillercharles, Laney : you can set an input method hint on your entry field and it will cause the OSK to display a number keyboard17:21
ogra_asac, so popey had a unity crash, davmor2 saw the supposedly fixed NM issue still17:22
ogra_asac, does that sound releasable to you ?17:22
charlesbfiller, sounds good17:22
mterryLaney, I didn't try in session manually, but when I set manually (using dbus-send) as root, it works17:22
Laneymterry: It might be a polkit/device thing17:22
asacpopey: tell me more about the unity crash? reproducible?17:22
Laneydoes it work on your desktop?17:22
bfillercharles, Laney : the current keyboard impl is slightly broken for number layout but working on a fix that should land any day now17:22
mterryLaney, didn't try17:22
ogra_bug 122132317:22
ubot5bug 1221323 in unity8 (Ubuntu) "Unity crashed on device image 20130905.1" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/122132317:22
asacogra_: when did the NM issue that we try to fix break at first?17:23
* mterry tries17:23
ogra_asac, ^^^17:23
popeyasac: not tried to reproduce17:23
ogra_asac, oh, i dont remember, but quite a while ago17:23
ogra_(NM that is)17:23
asacpopey: but your phone is usable?17:23
Laneymterry: So we may have to temporarily ship a polkit override that opens it up17:23
popeyhaving to reboot it now asac17:23
asacpopey: i think i need your feeling if rick will suffer too much :)17:23
mterryLaney, temporariy?17:23
Laneyyes17:24
popeyasac: trying to reproduce now17:24
Laneyit's a problem with polkit authorisations and active sessions17:24
asacogra_: can you summarize the NM bug one more time?17:24
ogra_we do the same for NM btw17:24
asacits symptoms?17:24
mptseb128, charles: Laney is right, the keypad and the OSK (and the date and time pickers) should be siblings that behave in the same ways17:24
mterryLaney, oh, because we aren't using real session management yet?17:25
ogra_asac, 3g doesnt come up until you restart nm17:25
Laneymterry: something like that17:25
popey3g is up here17:25
Laneyone of those things that should be solved with lightdm17:25
popeywithout restarting nm17:25
ogra_mterry, yeah, we override polkit in a few places already until lightdm lands17:25
asacpopey: NM is on maguro afaik17:25
mptseb128, that particular text field accepts only numerals, therefore it gets the numeric keypad rather than the OSK.17:25
ogra_popey, yeah, seems to be maguro only17:25
Laneyif setting works on your desktop I'd say that was ok for now17:25
popeykk17:25
Laneybut if lightdm looks risky we can override it17:25
Laneyin a couple of weeks or so17:25
asacogra_: so given we carry this for a while, i wouldnt block on NM17:25
asacfor a while == across a few /currents going back17:26
ogra_asac, right, but i wanted a judgement about the unity crash17:26
ogra_NM is no regression17:26
ogra_and unity might be a one time crasher17:26
asacyeah lets wait for popey's assessment. if its hard to reproduce i wouldn't say its a regression over last /current17:26
asacso wouldnt block17:26
ogra_right17:27
asacbut we want these to be investigated somewhat17:27
asacpopey: can you upload your .crash next time as well?17:27
seb128:17:27
asacor maybe you still have a unity8.crash for the bug17:27
seb128mpt, ok, but the osk has a "numerical mode" no?17:27
ogra_xnox, nice ... 40min was accurate this time it seems17:27
mptseb128, I don't know. If it does, great. :-)17:27
popeyasac: no crash file17:28
popeyasac: I ran "ubuntu-bug unity8" hoping it would do the Right Thingâ„¢17:28
asac:)17:29
ogra_one would hope so17:29
popeyI did it as root though which may be the problem?17:29
popeyunity was zombied17:29
asacogra_: can you check with ricmm how far his merge is away?17:29
asacogra_: if thats longe rthan it would take to try your androiid changes including getting a dashboard back17:30
asacwe could try doing that thing17:30
ogra_asac, he said a few hours17:30
seb128bfiller, thanks, I need to try that number keyboard mode, though some of those designs have extra keys to add extra chars (like the dialpad needs to be able to do +*#)17:30
asacogra_: but if you feel its too late lets do it tomrrow17:30
ogra_about 1h ago17:30
xnoxogra_: i hope stgraber can appreciate the swiss timing on that build =)17:30
asacwe like precision17:30
asacyes :)17:30
stgraber:)17:30
ogra_asac, i have to wait in any case for the android package to be published, there were a few changes17:30
popeyhaving difficulty reproducing it asac , but then last time it happened when the phone was just sat on my desk17:31
ogra_so lets push that one then i'd say17:31
bfillerseb128: there are different hints for number field and phone number field, where the later will show the  extras keys you are referring to17:31
asacpopey: so you say you sometimes see these crashes? even with the previous current?17:31
asacogra_: right.17:31
asacogra_: go ahead.. and then check17:31
popeyno17:31
popeythis was a one off, i can't recall my last unity 8 crash before todays image17:31
asackk17:31
asacwell, if its not easy to reproduce lets risk it17:32
asacwe get more unity8 stuff anyway, so we can blame them after :)17:32
asaclol17:32
popey\o/ blame17:32
seb128bfiller, do you know if that's documented somewhere?17:32
asac18:04 < jdstrand> asac: hey-- can you make sure click-apparmor 0.1.9 and apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu 1.0.29 are pulled in?17:32
asacMirv: sil2100: ^ any idea which stacks those would come from?17:32
asackenvandine: ^ ?17:32
bfillerseb128: yeah, looking..17:32
ogra_asac, done17:32
seb128bfiller, thanks17:32
asaclool: any new ideas on touch_ro that we want to land?17:33
asacogra_: \o/17:33
asac:)17:33
ogra_asac, ro is waiting for new android17:33
ogra_i,e, for the next build17:33
asacogra_: new android waits on you?17:33
asacok.17:33
asacso i guess we dont want to do your switch as well17:33
asacthat might make things blurry17:33
ogra_asac, new android is in publishing state, i wait for it17:33
asac-> so lets do lool for now17:33
asacget his touch_ro done17:33
bfillerseb128: http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5.0/qtquick/qml-qtquick2-textinput.html#inputMethodHints-prop17:34
ogra_asac, we cant always leave android out of sync with what we release17:34
ogra_this was supposed to be fixed weeks ago17:34
seb128bfiller, great, thanks17:34
asacogra_: i know17:34
asacogra_: we discussed it today already17:34
asacit can wait a day17:34
ogra_asac, it takes me another our to roll it back17:34
asacthough we could do it now, but since we have lool waiting for his stuff17:35
ogra_*hour17:35
asacogra_: roll what back?17:35
ogra_the 300 lines of code changes to cdimage17:35
asacogra_: did your work already?17:35
loolasac: new ideas?  it worked!17:35
asacogra_: we dont want it now17:35
asacogra_: we didnt want ... i thought we backed it out already17:35
ogra_asac, long before you told me to stop the line17:35
loologra_: whatwhat17:35
asaclool: cool so we can switch17:35
asac?17:35
ogra_lool, mmy changes that make cdimage use the android package instead of half package half jenkins build (which is all the time out of sync) landed this morning17:36
=== schwuk_away is now known as schwuk
bfillerseb128: we don't support all of them yet, but do support the following Qt.ImhHiddenText, Qt.ImhNoPredictiveText, Qt.ImhFormattedNumbersOnly, Qt.ImhDialableCharactersOnly, Qt.ImhEmailCharactersOnly, Qt.ImhUrlCharactersOnly17:36
loolasac: I think; I mean, we've had good runs and we've had a passing check-ufw run on maguro, so I would think it's as good with sufficient retries as touch images17:36
loolasac: ^17:36
asacplars: can you give the .1 images some love?17:36
loologra_: right, but that's not related to system-image17:36
asacso we have the same results? then we can switch to just focus on those and lool can send his mail17:37
ogra_lool, tell that to asac17:37
loolsystem-image will use the cdimage image17:37
ogra_lool, right17:37
asaclool: i didnt want such a change to happen while we try to get images out and land things isolated17:37
ogra_asac, we hopefully have better results ... not the same17:37
loolasac: we had the same results on mako and maguro, but tests haven't completed in the last day because of the number of uploads17:37
=== schwuk is now known as schwuk_away
asacogra_: so you say the next image will pick your stuff up?17:37
ogra_asac, yes17:37
plarsasac: err... the touch or touch_ro ones?17:37
asacogra_: ok, so kick another build off right away17:38
asacogra_: if there is a regressionm, we back your stuff out for unity17:38
plarsasac: the touch ones are about as good as we can get, and I've tagged all the bugs on it17:38
plarsasac: the touch_ro ones are still running I think17:38
loolasac: maguro runs for 05.1 are identical17:38
ogra_asac, and it means that the system.zip, recovery.img and system.img wil actually match the boot.img .... which it did before only by random luck17:38
ogra_asac, and i'm waiting for the android package to land17:38
asacogra_: then back it out17:38
loolasac: mako didn't complete yet, but security passed17:39
asacwe want to know that its good before landing unity17:39
ogra_asac, which should happen within the next ten minutes or so17:39
asacogra_: why do we wait?17:39
asacogra_: thought it was good before17:39
loolasac: can we promote the current image before we land unity?17:39
loolor kick a rebuild17:39
ogra_asac, so stgraber gets his ro fixes in17:39
asacthought they are in?17:39
asacthe tests are succeeding17:40
loolasac, ogra_: Rather than pushing this one more change, could we please promote the images and then land it?17:40
ogra_no, they are in the new android package17:40
asaclool: its promoted17:40
seb128bfiller, great!17:40
asaclool: well the rw got promoted17:40
ogra_lool, 05.1 is /current since a few minutes17:40
looloh cool17:40
asacso if the RO are good you can announce that folks should switch17:40
loolasac: so the ro too17:40
loolasac: let's switch17:40
loolstgraber: !  ^^^17:40
asacogra_: so seems stgrabers change is not essential17:40
ogra_asac, it is for maguro ...17:40
ogra_(enables swap)17:41
asacwe dont want swap17:41
ogra_its not essential to pass the tests ... but essential for using the device :)17:41
asacogra_: i want to have a rebuild without further changes17:41
asacat best17:41
asacso we see that your change did not change a thing17:41
ogra_we want swap until we dont need it anymore17:41
asaci dont want swap17:41
asacwhy would we hide that?17:42
ogra_unless you prefer having to reboot all the time if you run out of ram over the day17:42
asacyeah. i somewhat feel that would be more appropriate17:42
asacogra_: we have now the app life cycle17:42
asacthat should deal with it17:42
asaclets not do it17:42
asacstgraber: ^^17:42
asacwhat do you think?17:42
asackill swap because we have app life cycle now17:42
ogra_we have the app lifecycle once Mir is in17:42
loolasac, ogra_: Confirmed to stgraber + community team that we could announce new images as our new baseline17:42
loolthanks all!17:42
ogra_at least thats what i understood17:42
asacogra_: right. i dont care about this fix though. so lets not loose time17:42
ogra_thanks lool :)17:43
asacand kick off17:43
* ogra_ kicks off17:43
asacgood17:43
asacogra_: so who is the gatekeeper for android landings?17:43
ogra_if it fails i blame the tests :P17:43
kenvandineasac, those don't appear to be in any stacks17:44
loolssweeny, mhr3: uploaded upstart job, with adjustments to pathname discussed with seb128: /custom/xdg/data is the new data_dir17:44
ogra_asac, well, xnox ... even though he doesnt want to be17:44
asacjdstrand: how do the packages you want get into the image?17:44
lool subject: [ubuntu/saucy-proposed] ubuntu-touch-customization-hooks 0.217:44
ogra_asac, the build will pick them up17:44
ogra_they are in the archive17:44
asacok17:44
* asac takes a note17:45
* ogra_ sees asac writing "pick them up"17:45
asacno... "stop that from happening in future" :)17:45
ssweenylool, great. much appreciated17:45
loolssweeny: I didn't take note of other things I had to chase for this, but I think that was it; just ping me if another hook needs to be added or if it doesn't work for you17:46
jdstrandasac: can you rephrase? I don't understand17:47
ssweenylool, i think that was it, but i'll definitely pester you if something comes up :)17:47
stgraberlool: I'll prepare the announcement and sned it out in a couple of hours17:48
asacjdstrand: i guess you can ignore17:48
next_hello everyone17:52
loolstgraber: \o/17:52
next_i was wondering, does ubuntu touch onces install on nexus 7, can you use a terminal17:53
asaclool: gave a quick update to ue-leads17:53
dpmlool, did you take any notes when cross-compiling the qzxing plugin? Can I reproduce your steps to try the cross-compilation myself?17:53
asacmentioned you will send more details to the world17:53
next_i want to use the terminal to install arm apps and other things for testing17:54
next_:)17:54
ogra_next_, waht holdds you back ? just do it then17:55
next_well ok, i try it out today with my nexus 7. i was wondering after installed will i have accessto a terminal. bc i heard that many application on the device are still for show17:57
ogra_thats outdated info, many apps work fine17:57
ogra_they have rough edges  thought17:57
ogra_a terminal app is preinstalled17:57
next_really cool, bc i believe ubuntu will show the way the a device can be a all in one. unlike many people that juggle with 3+ devices a day :P17:58
next_also to update the device can u use apt-get update and upgrade on the device17:59
next_well got to go thanks ogra18:02
ogra_:)18:02
plarsogra_: so is another build after 5.1 coming today?18:04
ogra_plars, currently running, yes18:04
ogra_i hoped to have the day today to sort out all possible issue that might show up now18:05
plarsogra_: ok, that will pull in all the stuff that has been waiting, including the ubuntu-mir stuff?18:05
ogra_but that kind of wasnt the case ... so i'll have to back out the changes again in case something gails18:05
ogra_*fails18:05
ogra_no, it wont pull it mir18:05
ogra_it will just use the android package instead of the jenkins pieces18:06
xnoxasac: ogra_: not really no. Anyone with push access to hesperidium should be able to land changes, and from there they should be autolanding. Thus manual uploads should be automated out of android package uploads. I'd like to avoid bus factor there.18:06
plarsogra_: we have a somewhat large structural change to land for the automation, trying to find a good time to do that18:06
ogra_xnox, ++18:06
xnoxps. I am EOD.18:06
ogra_plars, well, asac just nodded off an image ...18:07
ogra_plars, sounds like the best time :)18:07
ogra_before we go into blocking mode again for a new /current18:07
plarsogra_: yeah, I've got a few things still running on the touch_ro image before it finishes up, then I'm going to try to do it, but I'm wondering if the new image will show up by then :)18:07
ogra_plars, it might18:08
popeyhmm, canonical.com looks a bit odd on the phone http://popey.com/~alan/device-2013-09-05-190838.png18:08
popeyahh, its showing the rss feed for some reason18:09
popeyhow odd18:09
ogra_thats the new page encryption ...  ask the NSA for keys18:09
popey☻18:10
asacplars: hey18:10
asac:)18:10
asacplars: whats that?18:10
plarsasac: ?18:10
asacplars: we have more in the pipeline for today18:10
asaclike the real reason for the green effort was to land the main part of unity8 later18:11
asacso i would prefer to avoid automation refactor18:11
plarsasac: yes, I know, we talked about that this morning18:11
plarsasac: well, the refactor is something we'd like to land soon, so that it doesn't block further progress or needlessly complicate it18:11
asacplars: so whats what needs maintenance?18:11
asacjust general cleanup?18:12
asacdo we have a landing plan for that?18:12
plarsasac: it's combining some branches, and making them more friendly to running from host in preparation for testing on click installed apps18:12
plarsasac: it's been tested, and reviewed about as much as we can without actually pushing it live... our plan was to wait until things quieted down a bit (hopefully today) and land it18:13
asacplars: ok that feels we could queue that up for after mir landing (which is monday/tuesday) ... or maybe this weekend :)18:13
asacplars: so you wanted to land it tomorrow?18:13
plarsasac: well, since people are traveling this weekend, might not be the best time18:13
asacright18:13
plarsasac: we can try for tomorrow if you think that will be better18:13
asacso i certainly dont want to do that before the unity8 is in18:13
asacwhich happens after ogras cowboy landing of android packaging is in :)18:13
asacso i dont see us geting to it before tomorrow18:13
ogra_cowboy landing ?!?18:13
asacsorry :)18:13
ogra_:)18:14
asacuncoordinated sideways injection stunt :)18:14
ogra_the code passed all tests !18:14
ogra_(and i even ran all of them !)18:14
asacstunts can go well ... you just need to be good at dodging injuries :)18:14
asachehe18:14
asacogra_: cool. next time lets coordinate it and i am sure its fine anyway :)18:14
ogra_well, i trust cjwatson's testsuite in cdimage blindly ... the debug build went well as well18:15
asaci think it all  mihgt even be perfect18:15
asacjust would have been painful if we realy wanted to respin the .1 image18:15
ogra_the only bit that could have issues is the publishing, since that isnt run during debig18:15
asacand we had your stuff already injected18:15
asaci have no insight in details. i only see a switch of integration technology :)18:15
ogra_well, i would have reverted the merge18:15
asacthat should be done isoldated and with awareness across the globe to ensure always a perfect resul;t18:15
ogra_its huge, but it is also in one single bzr commit18:16
asacogra_: righyt, but you said revert would take you  1h :) ... so :/18:16
asachehe18:16
ogra_so easy to back out18:16
asacanyway ... as i said, i think we might do a perfect dance now18:16
ogra_well, making sure everything is fine again, etc18:16
asacwith this squeezed in while we wait for ricmm etc.18:16
ogra_the bzr uncommit doesnt take 1h :P18:16
asacright. that would have taken another 3 hours of reinsuring18:16
asacthat your backout brings us back to green18:16
asac(which is still a risk even now, but at least we managed to get the image out and it would only defer unity8)18:17
ogra_if we would build using the old way right now, we would have a broken android layer i think18:17
asacanyway.. sometimes you need to take risks :)18:17
ogra_nobody rebuilt the jenkins bits18:17
asaclool: will you do the public announce of touch_ro? should we first anounce it internally to catch big dogfooding issues? or go all public right away?18:18
spazzymotoHey guys, loading 5.1. Hope i can contribute to your guys effort18:18
ogra_go all public but dont praise it as perfect :)18:18
asacogra_: yeah. let me actually boot touch_ro once :)18:19
* asac needs confidence18:19
asacsudo phablet-flash ubuntu-system18:20
asac-> installs 5.118:20
OrokuSaki_Anyone know if udev for Ubuntu Touch  has been compiled to support LVM2 partitions.. udevadm settle is hanging for me over something to do with lvm218:20
asacat least that works :)18:20
fgintherrsalveti, hey regarding testing of image with qt 5.1.118:20
asacspazzymoto: welcome! :)18:20
plarsrsalveti: hey, fginther was just telling me that we have some image with qt5.1.1 that needs testing?18:20
plarsbah18:20
plarsfginther: beat me :)18:20
asaci would really like to know how we produced that image :)18:20
rsalvetiyup :-)18:20
asacif its a real image (and not a ppa dist upgrade)18:21
fgintherrsalveti, are there changes in the image beyond qt 5.1.1? Could we just take the lastest image and add the right packages?18:21
rsalvetifginther: better get the image itself18:21
asacokay ic18:21
rsalvetifginther: and keep that in jenkins18:21
asacrsalveti: how can we get a real image?18:21
rsalvetiasac: created as the mir one18:21
rsalvetireusing the livebuild scripts18:21
asacrsalveti: hmm. is that a scalable solutionm?18:21
asacrsalveti: can we have that automatically for all our current stacks against /current?18:21
rsalvetiplars: phablet-flash cdimage-touch --pending --ubuntu-path http://people.canonical.com/~rsalveti/qt/ubuntu-touch-saucy-armhf-qt51.zip18:22
asacrsalveti: for all of http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/daily/ i would want an image all the time18:22
rsalvetiplars: sorry, missed you in cc18:22
asaccan you guys pull that off on your side?18:22
OrokuSaki_So nobody knows about udev\systemd and lvm2 for ubuntu touch? =)18:22
asacotherwise i have to wait for two month i feel :)18:22
ogra_asac, if you build another datacenter it might start to scale :P18:22
rsalvetiasac: sorry, what exactly do you need?18:22
asacrsalveti: so each of those stacks is one integration/staging ppa18:23
asacfor parts of our stack18:23
asaci want those to produce an image out of /current + the changes in the ppa18:23
ogra_rsalveti, he wants image builds for all autobuild stacks and test the stacks against the images18:23
asacand then have that at disposal18:23
plarsrsalveti: so... wouldn't that need an android part to go with it? I'm not clear on how phablet-flash copes with things properly when you just give it pieces18:23
asac(for testing etc.)18:23
ogra_asac, lets discuss that at the sprint18:23
asacogra_: yeah :)18:23
asaci will get you and rsalveti and sergiusens in the images for the world topic18:23
ogra_heh18:24
rsalvetiplars: it'll flash the latest android image, which is compatible18:24
ogra_not that we have nothing else to do :P18:24
fgintherrsalveti, ah18:24
asacmaybe images for the testing/ci slaves woudl be a better title18:24
ogra_but yeah, we should get started with it18:24
rsalvetiasac: right, not so hard to implement I'd guess18:24
asacogra_: is your cowboy image done building?18:24
rsalvetiwould just need more work to integrate it with CI as we want/expect18:24
* ogra_ still dreams of rootstoch-ng ... so you can do that at home too :)18:24
asacrsalveti: i want to have this super scalable... like people see changes piling up, click a button, new image comes along, goes into testing, if green, push18:25
asacat best all that on emulator image :)18:25
ogra_asac, still riding into the sunset18:25
OrokuSaki_Sure would be cool to know if udev supports lvm in ubuntu touch.. I notice some rules in the desktop version of ubuntu 13.10 that do not exist in Ubuntu Touch18:25
rsalvetiright18:25
OrokuSaki_rules regarding dm and lvm218:25
rsalvetiasac: then the best I guess would be a script that downloads current, add the ppa and apply the changes18:25
rsalvetias you want something fast18:25
OrokuSaki_could you guys ask that Ubuntu Touch include support for these partitions at some point?18:25

davmor2rsalveti: right give me 5 I'll grab the syslog of the none connect first and then I'll throw in the debug stuff18:31
ogra_OrokuSaki_, well, you would have to knit that in somehow indeed18:31
OrokuSaki_I removed settle and just put in sleep for 20 seconds.. so far so good18:31

stgraberbarry: it's my fault, will fix it ASAP21:25
barrystgraber: phew! :)21:26
cyphermoxricmm: I don't know what you are trying to land, but many of the last runs failed due to issues with reaching api.launchpad.net, I reran some of it already and things passed, but it's getting to a point where it's a little late to rerun more stuff, since the next run in in 33 minutes21:27
ricmmcyphermox: no pressure21:27
om26er_stgraber, hey, about the system-images is there a manual way to flash them? like downloading the image from somewhere ?21:41
om26er_*without phablet-flash21:41
stgraberom26er_: yes but it's painful, you need to download 12 different files, manually flash the recovery partition and push themm all by hand and write a command file by hand21:42
om26er_stgraber, ok, I'll pass then.21:44
om26er_stgraber, regarding the size of updates, since they will just be the delta between images, i'd assume we can expect updates as small as 20-30 mbs ?21:44
stgraberom26er_: yep, currently the average image is 50MB because of Android being rather massive, but once we stop changing android with every single build, they should go down to 15-20MB21:45
om26er_stgraber, that's great21:46
om26er_stgraber, last one: do we have plans for something like nightly images (aka daily updates or twice a day lets say) ?21:48
stgraberom26er_: yes, we have an update channel that does that, however it's not ready for human consumption at this point, this will hopefully change in the next few weeks.21:52
om26er_good to know21:52
plarsfginther: rsalveti: I see one problem with this qt51 image (installed it locally also)21:53
rsalvetiplars: problem with the image itself or just unity8 not behaving properly?21:53
plarsI did the first swipe for the intro, and it got through that screen, but now the rest of the intro appears to be behind the unity shell21:53
plarsrsalveti: well, unity8 most likely21:53
plarsrsalveti: now I can't get it to do anything21:54
mhall119plars: what's on top? the dash, the tour or the welcome screen?21:54
plarsmhall119: after clearing the first intro screen, the home screen was on top21:54
mhall119huh21:54
plarsmhall119: and I could see the intro (tour) sort of translucently in the background21:54
rsalveticheck if unity8 didn't crash, see if apport is running or if you have a crash file21:55
plarsafter waiting for it to turn the screen off, then turning it back on, it seems ok now21:55
plarsrsalveti: no .crash file21:55
plarsotherwise, just the 10 second looking it over it seems to be behaving as I would expect21:56
rsalvetihm, then please open a bug against unity8 and add qt5.1 as tag21:56
plarsrsalveti: it's going to go through the automated tests in just a bit, you won't see it on the dashboard but I can give you the link if you have vpn access21:56
rsalvetiyup, please21:57
stgraberbarry: ok, should have been fixed, testing that the client does the right thing now21:58
asaccyphermox: do you see how much stuff is in the stack ppas?22:00
asacwaiting?22:00
asaccyphermox: do you have links to the ppas?22:00
cyphermoxthere's only one PPA22:01
asaccyphermox: which one is that?22:01
cyphermoxhttps://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-unity/+archive/daily-build22:01
asaccyphermox: but you can only publish parts of it to archive?22:02
asacor how does that work?22:02
cyphermoxyeah, we can publish any individual package, that's done via the jenkins jobs22:02
stgraberbarry: is it just me or did the UI become less usable with the redesign? We used to at least know when it was downloading stuff...22:06
barrystgraber: tbh, i haven't tried to use the ui in a couple of days.  let me look22:07
asaccyphermox: so i think we should turn on automated publishing on for tonight again22:07
asaccyphermox: can you also publish just stacks?22:08
stgraberbarry: currently you get a big download button which apparently you can click as many times as you want, then at some point that button turns into install&reboot which triggers the reboot when clicked22:08
asaccyphermox: so i would like to pump the app stack for instance22:08
asaccyphermox: i would prefer not to do the sdk stack22:08
asac:)22:08
asaccyphermox: i assume thats hard?22:08
stgraberbarry: I was vaguely hoping for the download button to become a spinner or something instead of just doing things in the background withtout any feedback whatsoever22:08
stgraber(only noticed today because I needed a screenshot, I usually do command line updates)22:08
asaccyphermox: its really odd to look at tht ppa22:09
asaccyphermox: i thought all the packages that were copied would be nicely marked as superseded22:09
asacsomewhat22:09
barrystgraber: yeah, that's what it seems to do for me too.  agreed that's less than helpful22:09
asacbut thats not the case?22:09
cyphermoxnah it should be fine if apps is done22:10
cyphermoxasac: apps is running right now22:10
asaccyphermox: building new stuff?22:10
asaccyphermox: ok so i assume verything in the ppa that isnt older than 12 hours is not in22:12
asaccyphermox: i believe we can do:22:12
asacautopilot -> seems safe from comment22:12
asacrobru: cordova* changes ... what do those impact?22:13
asaccyphermox: indicator-datetime -> also feels safe to publish form comment22:13
asaccyphermox: same for indicator-network22:14
=== away0 is now known as mh0
asaccyphermox: so i think we could do one shot of everything that i new and hope :)22:15
asacand then continue tomorrow morning22:15
asaccyphermox: you say apps is running? so maybe lets wait for that and then manually publish everthing in one shot22:16
asacor however you do it usually22:16
mamenyakahello! can someone help?22:19
